Jack studied himself in the mirror, straightening his royal blue tie. He smiled in spite of himself, remembering the day previous.

Sue opened the door to find Jack standing in front of her. Immediatly, she felt self conscious but found the words to say

"Jack, please come in."

Sue lead Jack into the living room as Levi bounded up to him.

"Hey Buddy, hows it going?"Jack asked.

Sue went into the kitchen and brought out coffee.

They settled onto the couch and Sue said "So, what ah..brings you to this part of the neighbourhood?"

"Well, actually Sue, I was wondering-"

Just then Lucy walked in " Sue, did I hear the doorbell- oh.. Jack, I umm didn't realize Sue had company."

"Hello Lucy." Jack said

"Umm.. you know, I just remembered I forgot something somewhere. Okay, that made no sense.This is the part where I make up an excuse and leave. Goodbye." Lucy rushed out of the room.

Jack and Sue had bemused expressions on their faces.

Sue turned to stare at Jack "Jack, you have to excuse her.Hr nerves are shot.You see, tommorow, well, she asked Troy to the party... and well to say the least, she's nervous."

"Luc and Troy? How'd I miss that?"

Sue shrugged and sighed. Jack said, puzzled

" Wait, did you say LUCY asked TROY? "

"Yes, Jack I did. why?"

"Well, I thought the guy asked the girl?"

"Girls can ask guys too. So, will I have the pleasure of seeing Allie?"

"Umm, no I don't have a date."

"Oh.. I don't either, David is out of town."

"So, Sue, out of convinience, we could go with each other."

"I'd like that. Lucy was scared when I said I didn't have a date. She wanted me to ask you."

"So, why didn't you?"

Sue looked at him and sweetly replied

"Because I had a feeling you would ask me first." She winked, he laughed, and Levi liked what he, and Lucy, had just witnessed.

Flashback continues...

Sue, Lucy and Tara had spent the better part of the day getting ready. Lucy looked cautiously at herself in the mirror.

Sue came up to her and smiled "Luc, you look gorgeous.And she did.She was wearing a Red and Black knee high dress. Lucy turned towards her best friend.

"You know, you don't look too shabby yourself." Sue twirled around in her floor length, red sparkly sequenced dress.

Tara came running out of the girls living room.

"Girls, you aren't going to believe what I just did."

Sue sighed at her friends clumsiness. She eyed her red leather skirt and black top wth suspision.
Lucy started "Hun you look fine."

Tara stated matter of factly "No, not that.I just got off the phone and agreed to be Myles date!"

Myles hung up the phone with Satisfaction, sighing. He turned toward his MOTHER and said "I have a date for tonight, and mother, I don't care if you hate her. I happen to like her, and it happens to my life."

He huffed, flung his head, and scurried out of the room.

"Mother, I just don't get it. What do you mean Sue and Jack don't have dates?"

"Just that. Now Tanya, snap outta your little fantasy world and help me find a dress to wear."

Tanya went to her mother's closet and proptly threw piles onto the bed. After 10 minutes of digging, she came out, satisfied.

"There mother , the only thing made in the twentieth century that you have in your wardrobe" Tanya said, holding a back cocktail dress with soft red stitching.

Donna gasped and Tanya said defensively " Mom, if dad's eyes don't pop out seeing you in this, I will co- sign the divorce papers. Oh, and by the way, say hi to the love birds for me." She winked to her mother and headed out the room.

Donna held up the dress " Co- sign the divorce papers? What about co signing another birth certificate?"

She laughed in spite of herself and hurried to get ready.

Bobby pounded on the door. Jack opened it, annoyed. He had changed his tie, re reading the invitation and realizing he just HAD to wear red. Bobby looked at him

"You got a date, mate."

Jack glanced at him and said "Of course, who wouldn't?"

He thought about that for a second and smacked his head

"Gee, Bobby I'm sorry..."

"No mate, not your fault. Its not even Darcy's.I felt like Darcy was THE one for me. Do you know what I mean?"

"I'm there, buddy."

"So, you going to sit here all day, or are we going to go to a party?"

Tara, Lucy and Sue arrived at the party. Sue looked around anxiously, having left Levi, her ears at home. Lucy and Tara saw this, and Lucy said "Sue, we won't leave her side-"

"Unless, of course, your prince charming is here."

Sue nodded her head and Myles came across the crowded room to greet his coworkers.

He did a double take at Tara, but Tara shook her head and said "Do not comment, or else your dateless."

Myles quickly shut his mouth and pursed his lips.Then he thought "I could have fun with this."

Jack and Bobby scurried over, having finally escaped the chatter of Mrs.Leland.

"Jack, Bobby, you look nice."Lucy said

"You too, but Tara, whats with your hair..I mean, its great but-"

"Tara" Jack cut in "You look like a tomato."

Bobby tried his best not to laugh. Jack couldn't contain himself, and as D and Donna walked up, D was confused.

Tara looked as if she were about to slap Jack or cry, so Sue said,darting a look of hatred at the men.

"Tara, your hair is fine.I happen to like it, and I think that guy-" Sue points to a cute man "likes it too."

Tara looked up gratefully. Lucy turned to look at the man and Sue said

"Wow Tara, is HE EVER CUTE."

All men turned bluntly and looked at him. Bobby started

"Shielas, look at him. I mean who could love those green eyes, dark hair, and muscular build."

"Tara," Myles started "You're much better with me, at least for tonight." And with that he protectivly placed his arm around her.

Bobby whistled and Jack eyed the couple suspiciously.

"Sue, you don't want a guy like that. I mean, look at him. He's just an average Joe."

Sue, without missing a beat simply stated

"Thats funny Jack, I liked him because he reminded me of you."

Sue smiled sweetly as Jack said, flustered and embarassed "Oh, really?"

Jack nervously shuffled his feet as Bobby said

"Good one Sue, you know it takes two to tango."

Sue smiled as Lucy hugged Troy as he arrived. She turned to Jack and raised her eyebrows.

Jack nudged his head, indicating someone was speaking to her. She turned around abruptly and found the man who had been eyeing Tara staring at her in her slightly form fitting dress.

He stated "My name's Stephan, and I've been watching you. I like what I see."

This made Sue's blood run cold as she turned back to the group who looked on helplessly. Judging by the looks on their faces they had all heard the comment, even Troy(Lucy signed)and not even the girls found it amusing.

Jack hurriedly placed his hands around Sue's waist.

"Hi, Stephan, I'm Jack, I see you've already met Sue..."Jack resisted the urge to kick the man into tommorow.

"My WIFE."

Sue hurriedly placed her left hand behind her dress,so Stephan did not see her ringless hand.

Sue cleared her throat as Stephan said "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't see a ring."

Sue looked akwardly at Jack and said "I'm allergic to jewellery..."

Jack caught on "Ya, but we have the marriage certificate at home to prove it."

"Oh no, that won't be neccessary." A woman walked by Stephan and he turned to watch her.

"I'm sorry for that whole.. umm misunderstanding.. but if you excuse me I have some.. business to take care of."

And with that he took off after the woman."

Sue and Jack turned toward the group as they tried to muffle their laughter.

Tara said "WOW what a creep."

Lucy nodded her head and said "You'd think he'd know not to go after married women."

Lucy winked and Sue smiled.

D said "Allergic to jewellery, well.. at least she's easy to please Jack."

Donna smacked D on the arm and he cringed.

Bobby patted him on the back as Sue turned to Jack

"Thanks for that...now that I know what he's like.. he's not like you at all..."

Myles said "I don't mean to interupt, but that man should not be here, at my party.He has no common sense. SUE, your wearing a necklace.

Sue shrugged it off, and Myles exclaimed "Now Tara, my dear, please come this way to meet my parents."

Tara looked worridly at Sue and Lucy. The gave her encouraging looks, but once out of sight, Lucy said, exasperated

"Meeting the parents, the worst part of every relationship."

Troy signed "My parents will love you!"

Sue cleared her throat, leaving Lucy and Troy to sign, and said

"For Tara's sake, lets hope it turns out much better than it did for Greg."

Mrs.Leland's nostrils were flaring as she said "This is your date, Myles.Her hair reminds me of a really bad wig."

Myles looked appalled as Tara turned to look at him. Just then, Anne came up.

"Tara how nice to see you.I see you're Myles date."

The two girls hugged and Anne turned to face her mother.

"Mother, nice to see you."

"Anne, you haven't, ohh robbed any banks lately?Have you?"

Anne gave her mother a look of hatred "Mother, grow up. I can't beleive this is how you want to treat your only daughter."

A handsome man walked up and hugged Anne

"Mother, Father" She started, seeing her father approach"I'd like you to meet Micheal Recardo my fiance to be."

Myles extended his hand "I'm Myles, Anne's older brother. This is Tara, my girlfriend."

Tara thought This is moving WAY TOO FAST FOR ME...From date to girlfriend?!?!?!She shrugged it off. I don't really mind the feeling...


She snapped back to reality. Anne's cold,sharp voice cut into her thoughts "Mother, Micheal is the son of Jonathon Recardo, the multi millionaire."

Mrs.Leland's mouth gaped open and her eyes went wide. Gracefully, she took her daughter in her arms and hugged her.

She exclaimed "My daughter!"

Myles shook his head in disgust and Tara felt akward.

Sue nodded her head.She had her hand on Jack's arm, and she was very comfortable. Donna and D shared a knowing look of a time when they were doing the same.Now, two kids later, the were still so much in love.

Lucy and Troy were signing and Sue was trying to ignore their conversation, giving them some privacy. Bobby looked depressed,but still having a good time.

Suddenly his cell phone rang and he jumped up to answer it, realizing it was Darcy.

He looked at Jack and excused himself.

Tara started

"My hair really is terrible."

"You know, Tara, I almost would have prefered if you had dyed it purple" Myles said, studying her intently

"What,why?!?!" The three girls asked

"Ya, why Myles?" Jack asked, a little concerned for Myles.MAybe he'd drank just a little too much, a little too much. he thought.

"Just to tick my mother off." Myles said, kissing Tara on the cheek, making Tara's face turn as red as her hair.

Sue looked at Lucy who had seen the exchange and was excitingly signing "How fun it is to be in love."

Troy then signed back "I know." He smiled.

Sue looked over at D and Donna sharing a chocolate.

Why can't I have that?

She looked at Jack

"Alie?" Jack whirled around, stnaind up to face her.

It all flooded back to him.

A couple of weeks ago, he had phoned her...however they got into another argument,and, well....he figured it was over... and that she was finished with him.

Your obviously wrong, Hudson He thought

Jack examined her up and down. He had to admit she looked hot.

Sue also looked at her, an angry hatred boiling in her insides. She stared at Alli, who was wearing a skin tight black cocktail dress with a red rose.

Sue turned to Jack and said "Umm..Jack i didn't know you already had a date."

Bobby came hurridly back to the table

"WHOHOO Darcy coming...- Jack?!?!? oh no... man.. don't tell me you double booked!"

Sue turned accusingly to him, her eyes shooting daggers "You thought, SHE had dumped you, so you USED me.. as... this thing... like a backup,stunt double.... How could you?"

Sue got up, the tears evident on her face. She turned back to Allie
"Oh, and Allie, there is such a thing as wearing too little, especially to such an important party as this, right Myles?" she spat

Myles sat there, nodding his head, shocked at what he had witnessed. Tara looked on, thinking about the look Sue had given Jack, Bobby felt bad for Sue, but was happy for himself, and Lucy gave Jack a look that would surely paralize him.She also signed to Troy what had happened, but Troy had got the jist of it by Sue's expression.
Donna and D looked at each other, remembering slightly different situations from thier pasts.
Allie looked appaled at Sue's comment, and Jack Sat there wondering what in the world he was going to do.
Sue walked out quickly, wiping the tears as the came like the rain during a thunderstorm.

Now...the show must go on!

Jack turned to speak to Allie, but Lucy's tone told him to move on

"Jack, if you know what is good for you... you will take your two little short legs and move that pathetic excuse for a brain to where Sue is crying her eyes out..-"

Tara cut in " About you.. and in your current situation, she's brave.. or stupid...-"

"Or, in love.." Donna thought outloud "Tanya was right."

Everyone turned to her. She shrugged and Tara said "Whatever the reason, I wouldn't be crying over you, Jack."

Bobby cut in, 'Give him some slack"

The women eyed him, and he surrendered.

Myles added "Remind me to bring all of you" motioning around him "to our next interogation.. your looks alone will make the vict- I mean." he cleared his throat and nervously undid his tie, looking at the women "the suspect flake." He looked to D who put up his hands

"When they get like this, there's no way to stop them." He shook his head, laughing and saying " I think Myles had met his match. Imagine, a 6 foot guy, such as Myles, being taken down by little Tara."

Now it was his turn to squirm in his seat, uneasily, being stared down by all of the women.

Jack's nostrils flared as he began talking to Allie.

He began, but then turned to lucy who was about to say something

"Lucy, let me deal with Allie, then I will find Sue. OKay?"
Lucy looked a little taken aback, but nodded.

"Allie, you and I are done, FOREVER. You had no right to show up here, I invited Sue as my date, and I would really appreciate it if you would leave.I do not love you.." He turned in the direction Sue had left.

"Now, if all of you." he turned to his team "will excuse me, I have a damsel in distress to save."

He half smiled and Lucy let out the breath she had been holding. Myles went over to Allie and said "Let me escort you out."

Allie was already halfway out the door following Jack, so Myles went back and sat down.

He simply stated "Jack should really have a restraining order on her." The team nodded in agreement.

Jack spent the better part of an hour looking for a particular blonde. Finally, exasperated, he went up to Lucy. Lucy looked at him and said

"She must have left.Go to a place that she frequents."

Jack said his formal goodbyes to his hosts and nodded to Bobby who was, well, to say the least, preoccupied with Darcy in the corner of the room. He saw Myles and Tara slow dancing on the dance floor, who, every few steps, were passing D and Donna on the floor. He winked to Lucy who couldn't keep her eyes of of Troy.

As he was walking out to his car, he realized that, without love, wtihout Sue, he would never be complete. He would never have what some of his teamates had, or what some of his teamates were discovering.

He realized that he would never be a complete puzzle.. He would never be full. .The glass would be half empty.. the mirror would show no reflection. He would only have one part of the "best friends" necklace. He wouldn't have a dancing partner, he wouldn't have a wife, and he wouldn't have a mother for his children.


It was then, that his mission in life became clear.It was then that he realized why this special,innocent, independent woman had stormed into his office three years later demanding her rites. HE discovered why he had went to that AWFUL cafeteria.

Sue Thomas was the girl for him.THere was no other. He would not go through life lonely. A smile played on his lips.

After all, like Bobby says, it takes two to tango.

At that moment, in the middle of the place, that, two hours ago, he hadn't wanted to set foot on, he realized what he had been missing. He needed his better half. And he knew that his better half, was, right now, somwhere, crying on his behalf.

He exhaled slowly.

I wonder if they make a "romance for dummies" bookHe thought, heding for the dog park.

He walked slowly through the park, eyeing everyone suspisiously.

He sat down on a park bench and looked at the time. It was 9:30

Too late for Sue to be out...

HE jumped up and headed for his car

JEESH Hudson, and you pride yourself fo being an FBI agent.

Then again, Sue IS the one who solves most of the cases.

He put that to the back of his mind as he did the speed limit of 60. He hoped she was there, because if she wasn't he would seriously consider calling the authorities.

Levi jumped on Sue who was laying on the couch. She jumped up, licking the spoon she had used for the quart of ice cream. She hurridly answered the door, thinking it was lucy

"Luc, I don't care if he is on one knee.. I'm not coming-" She paused, realizing Jack was standing there, as apposed to Lucy. She sighed

Darcy and Bobby were dancing so much that Darcy had to sit to catch her breath.

"Darc, are we.. you know.. okay?" Bobby asked hesitantly,when they were alone.

'I'd like to apologise Tara, I never meant to.. use you to get to my mother."

"Yes, Myles you did." Tara smiled ruefully "However, you were unsuccessful. Once she discovered this colour will rinse out in 8 washes, she loved me."

Tara smiled at the look on Myles face as Mrs.Leland came up for a picture of her "favourite date of Myles'"

"Yes, its very..well fitting on you."

"Why?" D asked

Donna answered "Well, we'd make the tabloids if our daughter signed our divorce papers."

D sat there, trying to decipher what she had said, but in the end, he just got up and went to get them drinks.

Jack handed Sue flowers he ahd picked up on the way to her apartment.

Jack said "Sue, we need to talk."

Sue sighed again, but, knowing Jack's stubborness, let him in. He eyed her at full length, seeing that she was wearing a small fitting tanktop and low cut pants.

Jack said 'You look.. um..different than the last time I saw you in pajamas."

He refered to the granny pjs Sue had been wearing while they were undercover.

O, wow, what an ice breaker.That sounds great.

Sue scrunched up her face and said 'Well, I figured I'd get comfortable and eat my comfort food."

Great, Sue, great, now you look desperate.

"I figured you'd be with... ALLIE, you're first choice." Sue tried valiantly to say her name without spitting it, but she failed miserably

Sue turned around and sat down on the couch. Jack joined her.

"Sue, I asked Allie to go with me ages ago..we've broke up, since then, for good.I figured she wouldn't have the nerve to come, but.. with.. such an irresistable, irriplaceable person as me... I guess she couldn't help it."

Sue looked away

"Jack, David and I broke up ages ago. I guess I told you he was out town because I liked the thought of you being jealous. I'm sorry."

They hugged, as Jack played with her hair

"Well, miss Thomas, if thats the worst thing you've ever done to me, I'd say I'm a pretty lucky man, aren't I?"

She nodded and Jack questioned "Was I really that blunt about being jealous?"

Sue laughed "As blunt as a butterknife, especially me in the gown."

He remembered back to that night, the beauty of her in that gown.


She got off the coch and took the ice cream

"Looks like I won't need this- ever again."She came back in

"I've got everything I've wanted."Jack said, leaning in for a kiss.As their lips met, both realized that this was definately worth the long wait.

Sue pulled apart

"Jack, this is going to be...challenging..our relationship...everything."

Jack silenced her by placing his finger on her lips

"Sue, We will make it work, we're fbi agents, I'm sure something as.. simple as.. love will be no problem."

They laughed but Sue persisited.Jack silenced her with a kiss

"I love you, Sue Thomas, we will take it one step at a time,.

"Jack,"She asked hesistantly "Will you be my valentine."

He smiled, with misty eyes "Need you ask?

Sue happily got up to out her roses in a vase, and Jack turned to LEvi

"We'll figure it out, right buddy?"

Levi raised his paw in agreement.

*********************************************************** The night at the party for the remaining teamates ended just as well.Tara and Myles shared their first kiss, D and Donna rekindled thier love, Darcy and Bobby picked off from where they had left off,and Tony and Lucy decided to try something new.
And when lucy returned home to find Sue and Jack leaning on each other, sleeping on the couch, she realized that Jack and Sue had found something they had alway had: Love, and each other.
