Hey, guys!! I'm new! I already posted my story on the other site, so I thought I might as well post on this site too. Here's the first part--hope you like it!!

“Yeah, I guess you’re right, Bobby,” Howie replied as he turned to Sue. “You better not scare me like that again, though, okay?”
“Alright, Howie. I didn’t mean to scare or hurt you. I guess I was so caught up in things that I forgot to tell you. Will you forgive me?” Sue asked.
“Of course, Sue, just never let it happen again!”
“Now that that’s settled,” Lucy interjected, “where are we going to have the party?”
“Wait a minute! What party?” Howie demanded. “You guys are keeping a party from me now?”
“Relax, Howie. We were just suggesting to have a party at Myles’s house, but he immediately rejected the idea,” Lucy answered as she glared at Myles.
“Correction: you people threw the idea in my face and I, being the realist that I am, merely responded by pointing out the reasons why a party simply cannot be held at my house,” Myles objected.
“Hey, you can have your party at my place!” Howie suggested eagerly.
“I guess that isn’t such a bad idea,” Tara agreed, “but is it big enough?”
“Sure it is!” Howie responded.
“Well, what about D.? His son has to read his essay in the afternoon,” Tara pointed out.
“Who said it had to be in the afternoon? We could have the party at night and go to the park afterwards to watch the fireworks,” Howie offered.
“Yes! Fireworks!” Tara exclaimed as everyone looked at her. “What? It brings back childhood memories!”
“Anyways, where were we?” Lucy asked, getting back on topic.
“We were just talking about the party I will be holding at my house,” Howie replied. “It will start at 7:00 p.m. and go ‘till 11:00–then we can move it to the park where the fireworks will be. Just make sure you all have eaten supper before you come over–I don’t want to get cockroaches again, you know the big, hairy ones–”
“I think we all know what you mean, Howie,” Bobby cut him off. “Don’t worry, mate, we’ll keep your house clean!”
“You’re the one I’ll be keeping my eye on the most, Bobby,” Howie threatened. “Anyways, remember to come at 7:00, all of you, and bring a date–that’ll spice things up! Oh, and you can come, too, Otis.”
Otis looked at Howie as if he were crazy, but Howie just ignored it.
“Well, now that we have this worked out, I think it’s time for you to go, Howie,” Jack proceeded, practically pushing him out the door.
“Thank you for offering you house for the party!” Sue added sincerely before Howie left.
“Anything for my friends at the Bureau!” Howie replied. “And remember, 7:00 sharp on Monday!”
“Okay, Howie. See you then!” Lucy assured him.
“Wow! It’s amazing how fast Howie could think on the spot and come up with those details!” Tara pointed out once he and Otis were gone.
“Well, he does have a lot of time on his hands, and he always likes to help us out,” Sue observed.
“That’s true,” Lucy agreed. “So, Myles, will you be joining us for this joyous event?”
“I told you all already that I believe the true spirit of this event is lost in the celebrations of the popular mass,” Myles responded. “Besides, I would not have a female companion to join me.”
“Well, we’d be happy to have you there with us if you happen to find someone to go with,” Tara proclaimed. “As for me, I’ll see all of you on Monday–I’m out of here. Oh, and Bobby, I still want my pen back!
One by one the team left the bullpen for the weekend until only Jack, Sue, and Levi were left. Jack walked up to Sue’s desk just as she was finishing up her work. She saw his shadow and automatically looked up.
“So...um...do you have an idea of who you will go to Howie’s party with yet?” Jack stuttered.
“Uh, yes, actually–I was thinking of bringing Levi,” Sue teased with a playful smile on her face, “but then I realized that a dog wouldn’t exactly qualify as a ‘date’. Who are you going with?”
“I had someone in mind, but it looks like her heart belongs to someone else, a canine to be exact,” Jack played along.
“Oh, really? Well, if that canine lover wasn’t allowed, I’m sure she’d say yes. Now what would you say to that?”
“I’d say that I would pick her up at 6:00 so I could take her out to eat before the party. How would that sound?”
“Perfect,” Sue replied as she gathered her things and got ready to leave. “Goodnight, Jack.”
“Goodnight, Sue,” Jack responded as they both left the building.

*July 2nd*
“Good morning!” Lucy greeted Sue the next morning at their apartment.
“Good morning, Lucy!” Sue responded.
“Do you have any plans for the Fourth of July yet?”
“Not during the day. Why?”
“Oh, I was just thinking we could go to a festival or something like that in the city since it is the country’s birthday after all,” Lucy suggested.
“Okay, sounds good to me. Just make sure we’re back by 5:00.”
“Oh, you have plans then?”
“It’s nothing, really...just supper at 6:00, then Howie’s party.”
“Supper? You never told me anything about that. Who are you going with?”
“You’ll see,” Sue replied with a twinkle in her eye. “Enough about me; who is your date for Howie’s party?”
“Well, since Bobby and Darcy broke up, he asked me to go with him–as friends. I said yes because I have no one else to go with either,” Lucy answered. “There. I told you who I was going with; now tell me who your lucky guy is!”
“I told you, you’ll see. Besides, it’s no big deal.”
“Fine. I guess I have no choice but to wait until Monday,” Lucy sighed, half to herself.
Later that day, as Sue took Levi on their daily evening walk, she thought about all that happened in the last day.
Why is it so hard for me to express my feelings to Jack? Sue thought. I guess part of it is Garrett and his rules...Maybe it’s also because I’m afraid he doesn’t feel the same way...but what if he does?
“Either way,” she muttered to herself as she headed back home, “I have to tell him sooner or later. I’ll face my fears and tell him on Monday.”
Meanwhile...
Jack was out jogging, as usual, thinking along the same lines as Sue.
I wish I could tell Sue how I feel. Whenever I come close to telling her, though, I chicken out. But I really can’t afford to stall like this...especially if she gets another job offer.
“I’ll tell her - somehow - on Monday–rules or no rules,” he decided out loud as he headed back home.

*July 3rd*
The next day, Lucy and Sue were at their apartment, getting ready to go to church.
“Are you all ready to go?” Lucy asked Sue.
“Just let me grab my purse and I’ll be ready!” Sue responded.
Then they headed off to church. They got there within minutes since they lived fairly close.
“Today’s sermon will focus on the first line of the Declaration of Independence: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness’,” the pastor declared when it was time for the sermon. “This recognizes the fact that God created all of us equal and gave us Rights...”
As the pastor trailed on, Sue thought about how her coworkers treated her as one of them despite the fact that she couldn’t hear. She was grateful to be blessed with such people and glad she decided to stay with them instead of taking the job in New York.
Soon the service was over, and Sue and Lucy went home.

Later that day, Myles was out taking a walk in the park–anything to get away from his pesky neighbor. He spotted a woman around his age struggling to fix a flat tire. He walked up to her to see if he could do anything to help, remembering his own car troubles with Bobby, Howie, and Otis on their way to Phoenix.
“I see you are having some trouble, ma’am,” Myles observed as he walked up to her. “Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Sure,” she answered, “do you know how to fix a flat tire?”
He answered yes and proceeded to help her. They introduced themselves to each other, and, after Myles was done fixing the tire, began talking about their lives and what they did for a living. Myles found out that her name was Katie, she was a doctor, and she lived in D.C.
“So do you have any plans for tomorrow?” Katie asked Myles.
“Well, actually, one of our ‘informants’ is hosting a party tomorrow night at 7:00. I wasn’t planning on going because I didn’t like the idea at first, but if you want to go with me...”
“Sure, I’ll go!”
“What time should I pick you up?” Myles questioned.
“Quarter to 7 is fine with me,” Katie answered before giving him her address.
“Okay. See you tomorrow,” Myles replied as he left to go back home, not fully realizing what he was getting himself into.

*July 4th!!!*
“Go get Sue up; we have a lot of stuff to do today!” Lucy commanded Levi the next morning.
Levi obeyed her command, running into Sue’s room and jumping onto her bed to wake her up.
“What’s going on, Levi? What time is it?” Sue mumbled as she looked at the clock that read 10:00.
Sue crawled out of bed and went into the kitchen where Lucy was making coffee. “Did you send Levi to wake me up?” she asked.
“Yes. I wanted to get going as early as possible so we have enough time to go to festivals and get home by 5:00 for you to get ready for your mystery date.” Lucy explained, giving Sue a look as she said the last two words.
Sue just rolled her eyes and went into her room to get her clothes. She chose to wear a tank top and shorts since she knew it would be hot out that day. She took a shower (not forgetting to wash her hair!) and got dressed. Soon they were all ready and left the apartment to start an adventurous day!
After a few hours, Lucy, Sue, and Levi had been to three festivals and had seen a parade. They decided they had seen enough, so they went shopping since they still had time. At quarter to five, they headed back home because Sue had to get ready.
“So when are you going to tell me who this guy is?” Lucy asked Sue once they got back to their apartment.
“Luce, stop bugging me; you can wait an hour!” Sue replied with a smile on her face.
Sue then went to her room to get ready. She chose to wear a black knee-length dress along with strappy sandals and a gold heart necklace–not too dressy, but not casual either. She also decided to wear her hair down.
Before long, there was a knock on the door. Lucy jumped up to get it, eager to see who would be taking her best friend to supper and Howie’s party.
“Hello, stranger!” Lucy greeted after she opened the door, surprised at the sight of the man who stood before her.
“Hello, yourself,” Jack replied. “Is Sue here?”
“Oh, right...I’ll get her. You can come in,” Lucy suggested.
As Jack came in, Lucy went to get Sue, who was finishing her makeup in the bathroom.
“Sue, your date is here,” Lucy informed Sue with her famous smile. “Why didn’t you tell me it was Jack?”
“I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. Also, I wanted you to be surprised,” Sue answered.
“Well, I am–not that I should be. I mean, who else could it be?” Lucy admitted. “Well, don’t leave him waiting!”
“Just tell him I need a couple more minutes–he’s here early anyways.”
Lucy obeyed, and a few minutes later Sue walked in all ready to go.
“You look beautiful,” Jack complimented her the minute he saw her.
“Not looking bad yourself,” Sue replied, glancing at his black suit and tie.
“Are you ready to go?” Jack asked.
“Yes,” Sue responded as she turned to Lucy. “I almost forgot–could you take Levi to Amanda’s house for me on your way?”
“Of course I can,” Lucy replied. “Don’t worry about him, just have a good time. See you later!”
“Bye!” Sue and Jack both responded as they left.

Hey, guys! Here's the rest of my story--please tell me what you think!

They arrived at the restaurant where Jack had made reservations shortly after.
“Wow, this is a pleasant surprise; I wasn’t expecting anything this fancy!” Sue confessed after they were seated.
“Well, I thought that since this is such a big holiday–at least for this city–it was necessary to go to a place like this,” Jack replied innocently.
As the waitress took their order, both Jack and Sue thought about what they were going to say (regarding their feelings) and how they were going to say it. They both wanted it to be perfect, not knowing that the other person felt the way they did. They both eventually mantally decided that they would wait to tell the other person what they felt–a restaurant just wasn’t the right environment. They would wait until later to say anything.
Before long, the food came. While they were eating, Jack and Sue talked about Independence Day and the memories they had from their childhood on that day.
“Independence Day was always a big thing for my family,” Jack recalled. “We would always go to a picnic or parade and then see fireworks over Lake Michigan at night.”
“That sounds awesome. What was your favorite part?” Sue asked.
“Probably the fireworks. It always brought a sense of magic to the night–the perfect way to end my day. I loved seeing fireworks light up Milwaukee, but I think the way they light up D.C. is better,” Jack replied. “What about you? Did you have any traditions for Independence Day?”
“Yes. My whole family would get together and go swimming and play volleyball all day. Then we would have a barbecue for supper and see fireworks at night,” Sue remembered. “The fireworks were my favorite part too; I always thought they were so pretty. I can’t wait to see them tonight.”
“Me too,” Jack agreed as he glanced at his watch. “Wow, it’s 6:45 already! Are you ready to go?”
“Yes. Let’s go!”
So Jack payed the bill, and they headed off to Howie’s house.

Meanwhile...
Myles drove to Katie’s house and got out of his car. He walked up to her front door and rang the doorbell with his other hand behind his back. A few moments later, the door opened. Out came Katie, dressed similarly to Sue–dressy but not too dressy. Myles pulled out his hand to reveal a single rose.
“This is beautiful,” Katie expressed, taking the flower. “No one has done anything like this for me since...oh, never mind, let’s go!”
“Is anything wrong?” Myles asked.
“No, it’s nothing. I’m ready to go; I don’t want to be late!”
“Okay, if you’re sure.”
“I’m sure–let’s go.”
Then they both got into Myles’s car and drove off to the party.

Sue and Jack arrived at Howie’s house later than everyone else because they got caught in traffic. They saw everyone from the bullpen there, along with their dates. Lucy was with Bobby, Tara was with Stanley, D. was with Donna, and Myles was with someone who they both didn’t recognize. Even Otis ended up coming with a few of his basketball buddies.
“Jack, do you know who that is with Myles?” Sue questioned.
“No, I don’t. There’s only one way to find out–let’s ask Myles!” Jack suggested.
“Okay,” Sue replied.
So they walked over to Myles and Katie and asked who the woman was.
“Her name is Katie, and I met her yesterday while she was having trouble fixing a tire. I fixed it for her, of course, and invited her to this party,” Myles bragged.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Sue told Katie, shaking her hand.
“Same here,” Jack agreed. “What do you do for a living?”
“I’m a doctor,” Katie responded. “I work with children.”
“That sounds great. What made you want to become a doctor in the first place?” Sue wondered out loud.
“Well, I first took interest in high school...wait, no, it was 7th grade,” Katie replied, thinking back. “Now I remember–I got transferred to a different biology class, and I just loved learning about the human body.”
A wave of familiarity took over Myles. “Why did you get transferred to another biology class?” he asked with a sense of disbelief.
“Oh, the grandson of the founder of my school, Leland Hall, was in my biology class. He asked me to the Valentine’s Day dance, and I said no. He must have taken it personally because he had me transferred to a different biology class,” Katie explained.
While Myles stood there with his mouth practically hitting the floor, Jack signed to Sue, “I think we better leave them alone to discuss some things.”
Sue nodded in agreement and giggled as she walked away with Jack.
“What’s wrong?” Katie confusedly asked Myles.
“Ka...Katherine Pr...Proctor?” was all Myles could sputter.
“Yes. How did you know that is my full name? No one’s called me Katherine since high school.”
“I am Myles Leland III. I didn’t tell you my full name only because you didn’t tell me yours. Anyways, I am the one who had you transferred out of biology class,” Myles admitted after a moment of processing. “I felt so rejected that I couldn’t bear to see you again.”
Now it was Katie’s turn to be surprised. “I only said no because I was going on vacation that weekend. I wanted to explain it to you, but you never gave me a chance. You know, the way you offered me the rose today reminded of the way you did the exact same thing all those years ago when you asked me to the dance. I really never meant to upset you.”
“I apologize for the misunderstanding,” Myles expressed. “If I only would have given you the chance to explain...”
“It’s okay,” Katie assured him. “If you didn’t have me transferred, I would have probably never become a doctor.”
“That’s true,” Myles concurred. “Well, thank you for coming with me tonight.”
“You’re welcome. I’m having a great time!” Katie replied. “Let’s make the best of tonight!”
“Okay, let us do just that!” Myles agreed.
Meanwhile, Jack and Sue were chatting with D. and Donna.
“So how did David’s speech go today?” Sue asked them.
“It went great. He messed up a few times, but no one seemed to notice. He was proud of himself at the end, and of course we were proud of him too,” D. answered. “So what’s up with Myles? I saw you with him and then he seemed shocked as you two left.”
“Well, Myles apparently didn’t know that his date is Katherine Proctor, the girl that rejected him in the seventh grade,” Sue filled him in. “They seem to be getting along fine now, though.”
“Katherine Proctor? What did Myles say when he realized it was her?” D. asked.
“We don’t know. We left them alone so we wouldn’t be in the way,” Jack confessed. “I’m sure they worked it out somehow, though.”
“Well, if you don’t mind, I’d like to see what Myles has to say about this whole thing,” D. stated.
“Go ahead,” Jack responded.
So D. and Donna walked over to Myles and Katie, leaving Jack and Sue alone.
Jack’s mind raced. This was the first moment he had alone with Sue since the meal. Should I say something to her? he thought. I might as well since I have the chance.
“Sue, I have something to say to you,” Jack started.
“What?” Sue wondered.
“Well, um, I was wondering...”
“What is it?”
“Would you like...something to drink?” Jack asked.
“Sure. Fizzy water,” Sue signed.
While Jack went off to get the drinks, he mentally criticized himself.
What was that, Hudson? Jack thought to himself. Why did you have to chicken out again? When you get back, you have to say something to her.
After a few minutes, Jack returned with the two drinks.
“Was that all you had to ask me?” Sue questioned. “Because I have a feeling there was more.”
“Actually, you’re right,” Jack began. “What I wanted to say was–”
“It’s firework time!” Howie’s voice rang throughout the whole house.
“What’s the matter?” Sue asked, confused as to why Jack had stopped.
“It’s time to go to the park to watch the fireworks,” Jack signed.
“Well, what is it you wanted to tell me?” Sue asked.
“It can wait,” Jack responded, knowing it just wasn’t the right time to say anything.
So the party moved to the park. Everyone shuffled around so they would get a good view. The weather was perfect, and there was a soft breeze blowing through the air.
“Jack, there’s something I want to tell you, too,” Sue confessed. “I...I...”
At that moment Jack realized there was no way to express his feelings in words. He also realized that Sue was most likely feeling the same way about him that he did about her. He placed his hands upon her cheeks and lowered his face to hers. Their lips met, and Sue responded by putting her arms around his neck. It was the sweetest kiss either of them had ever received. The kiss was broken by a loud boom–the fireworks had started. Jack and Sue both knew that they didn’t have to say anything to the other person–the kiss was far more meaningful than any words could describe. This was the best Independence Day they ever had!

Well, I hope you liked it (I know it was kinda sappy, but this is my first story!). Oh, and in case you didn't notice, there really is no meaning to the title!

P.S. If you've never seen the episode "Bad Girls", I can explain the whole "Katherine Proctor" thing. In that episode, Myles mentions that Katherine Proctor was a girl from the seventh grade who was in his biology class. She rejected his invitation to the Valentine's Day dance, so he had her transferred out of his biology class (he had that power because the school was named Leland Hall after his grandfather). His goal in life was to never see her again. Later on, at the end of the episode, he says that he might like to run into her someday to show her that she "not only missed the boat but the entire fleet" when she rejected him. Hence, my inspiration (though I never planned for her to seem suspicious in my story!).

Hahaha! Myles wanted to be smug and walk up to Katherine (did NOT see that coming, by the way) and show her what he became, and here she is successful in her own field and not bitter at all, but still remembering... Nice story here! I can't wait to read more by you!
