But the fire is so delightful

It doesn't show signsof stopping

The tinny broadcast of the popular carol was certainly appropriate for their own weather forecast. It didn’t show signs of stopping. Traffic was snarled, planes grounded and trains overcrowded as potential travelers were forced to put their holidays on hold. There was no doubt; they wouldn’t be getting through tonight. They’d have to make the best of it here and try again in the morning. Turning to his companion he smiled apologetically and said, "I am so sorry that this had to happen."

"It's okay, Jack. It's not like we could've planned it. My parents know that, and it should be fine by tomorrow anyways."

"I suppose. At least we have phone service, so that they aren't totally freaking out. I am just so glad that we were able to find this motel here in the middle of nowhere. Did I tell you how glad I am that I could drive you to see your parents? I would be a nervous wreck if I knew you were out here alone."

"Thanks, Jack. I am glad you could drive me too. I hate driving in the snow and going all of the way to Ohio at that!"

"So are you nervous about what your parents are going to say about me spending Christmas with you guys? I mean because of the fact that I'm your boss... and friend of course...I mean...well, you know what I mean."

"Yes I know what you mean. And no, I'm not nervous becasue you are a friend who offered to drive me to visit my parents, and is going to stay at our house because his parents are at his sisters and he couldn't get there."

"Yeah, exactly."

Is that the only reason, Jack? Or did you on purpose bought your parents plane tickets to go see your sister so you could spend Christmas with Sue ???


Sorry, couldn't resist the plane ticket ... just spent two hours trying to get tickets for my daughter to come for Christmas !

Well maybe not the whole reason. Jack thought in his head.

I wish that I was serious about not being nervous. What are my parents really going to think?!?! Sue wondered.

"So. I was thinking that I should start a fire in the fire place. I'm not sure that theres a working furnace here, and we will need to keep warm. Unless you had another idea?"

Yeah, I have an idea. "No. that sounds like a good plan to me." Sue said.

"Okay. I saw a pile of wood outside. I'll run get some and I'll be right back. Hey, would you mind calling and checking up on Bobby and Tara for me?" he said with a wink.

"Oh, sure. I was just thinking the same thing."

"Okay. I'll be right back."

Sue dialed Tara's cell, not sure of where they would be tonight.

"Hello, Sue."

"Hey I was calling to check up on the weather there."

"It's snowing pretty hard.

"Yeah same here. We had to stop at a motel for the night. We couldn't see 2 feet in front of us. Jack just went out to get some wood for the fire place so I thought it would be a good chance for me to call and check up on you both."

"On us both?!"

"Yeah. You and Bobby?"

Tara's face turned red as the realization hit her. "Oh, um we're fine. Bobby won't let me leave his place untill it lets up. Other than that we are good."

"Okay, thats good. I hope you guys stay safe and warm. Have a wonderful night and I'll call you guys tomorrow. If you need anything I'll leave my blackberry on and Jack has his cell as well, so feel free to call."

"Okay, thanks. I'll try and not call though unless it's an emergency. I'd hate to interupt anything. Bye." Tara said with a giggle.

Sue read what Tara had said just as Jack came in and her face turned as red as the christmas tree out their window.

"Bye." Sue said as she ended the conversation.

"How are Bobby and Tara? Are you cold?"

"They're fine. No, why?"

"Your face just seemed really red."

Sue's face turned even redder then. "Well maybe a little. Anyways, they are both at Bobby's and he won't let her leave until the weather lightens up. I told her that if they needed anything they could call."

"Okay. If you want you can take a hot shower while I get this fire blazin. Then we can relax."

"Sounds good to me. I'll be out in a bit."

Jack prepared the fire while Sue was in the shower. He kept trying to concertrate solely on getting it warm in the room, and not on other things, but to him it was all of the sudden extremely hot.

"Was that Sue?" Bobby asked.

"Yeah. She was calling to see how the weather was here. She and Jack are stranded at a motel for the night."

"Really? That's an interesting predicament for good ole Sparky." Bobby replied with a laugh.

"My thoughts exactly. She said we could feel free to call them anytime we needed. I would hate to interupt something though so I don't think we'll need anything any time soon."

"I dunno. I might need something." he said with a devilish grin.

"Robert Manning! You will not! This is the chance we have been hoping for for three years. We are not going to ruin it for them. Besides, what could you possibly need? I'm already here."

“That is true my love.” He said as they cuddled closer on the couch.

The sat quietly for a while just looking at the Christmas tree glow in the dark of the night.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTPPPPPPPPPP!

“Bobby? What happened?”

“I believe all of the snow has cut the power, love. Doesn’t look like you’ll be going home tonight even if you wanted to.”

“Oh, no. Does that me the furnace is off too.?”

“Yes. That does. I’m gonna go find a flashlight and some matches. Wait here so I don’t lose you in the dark.”

He got up and started walking toward the kitchen. He fumbled down the step into the kitchen, and found the flashlight as it fell on his head in the process.

“Are you okay, bobby?” Tara said into the dark as she heard a crash and a yell.

“Yep. Just dropped the flashlight.” He replied as he turned it on to find matches.

He found the matches quickly and went back to Tara. “I’m gonna light as many candles as I have and hope that they’ll give off some heat as well as light.”

“Light will definitely be good, but I really don’t think they’ll give off heat.”

“Yeah I suppose. It’s not like that’s the only way to keep warm.”

“My thoughts exactly.”

Sue came out of the shower to a toasty warm room.

“I see you got the fire going good. I’m proud of you Jack.”

“Thanks. I guess boy scout training did come in handy after all.”

“I suppose so. What should we do? We have plenty of time to kill while we’re here. The snow doesn’t show any signs of stopping so we might be here a while.”

“Well. We could talk about your family. You could let me know what to expect when I meet them.”

“Oh my goodness, that will take hours.”

“That’s okay we do have the time.”

“I suppose you’re right. Well where to begin? Let’s see I’ll start with my oldest brother Jerry. He and his wife Kim have 2 kids, Jeremiah Jr, who’s 7 and Kaylie’s 4. He is my over protective brother. It’s only gotten worse as his kids are getting older. Then there’s Mitch, my middle brother. He just got engaged to his girlfriend of nearly 8 years, Carrie. He is definitely my weirdest and wildest brother. He will do and say just about anything. He is also really great with our nieces and nephews. Then there is Robby. He is closest to my age. He is married to Alisa and they have 4 kids. Alex is the oldest and he’s 5, Mikayla is 3, and Ian and Isaac just turned 1. Robby is definitely the quietest one out of my brothers. Unless I bring a boyfriend home he is anyway. He was always the one to scare them off because he always found something he didn’t like about them. You shouldn’t have anything to worry about with him though, since you’re not my… since your just a friend and co-worker. Anything else?”

“I think that should do it. I’m not positive I can remember all of the names though but I’ll do my best.”

“That’s okay if you don’t, it doesn’t really matter.”

“Well, I’ll try anyways.”

“So. What should we do next?”

“I’m thinking sleep.”

“Good plan.”

They got ready for bed, since it was almost 11. They wanted to get an early start in the morning to get to Sue’s parents and have time with them before her brothers all got there.

Bobby and Tara were still stuck with no power and slowly dying candles. It was almost to the freezing point in his apartment and knew it would be a long night if they didn’t keep warm. He had gone into his closet and gotten a few extra blankets. It was way to cold and he was way to nervous to let Tara sleep in the guest room alone so he decided to camp out on the floor.

“Bobby, it’s too cold down there, especially since you gave me most of the spare blankets. Warm air rises ya know?”

“I know. That’s why I gave you the bed, so you’d be warmer.”

“Bobby? We are both mature adults are we not?” he nodded, “So get your but up here and stay warm.”

He gladly obliged and was glad he did. It was much warmer up there. And the fact that he had a little extra body heat to cuddle up to helped. They slept for a few hours, but eventually it was just to cold for comfort. They both got up and decided to make sure the water pipes didn’t freeze over. They weren’t so they ran as warm a bath as possible and soaked their feet, with sweatpants and sweatshirts on.

“It’s kind of working, don’t ya think?”

“Yeah, but I’m still cold even though my feet are rather toasty.”

“I don’t know what else to do. I guess we could do laps around the couch?”

“Yes, because I’m sure your neighbors would love people jogging around at 3:00 in the morning. Any other ideas?”

“Well, I guess we could always go back to bed and try and get enough body heat to warm us up.”

“Bobby! You better not be thinking what I think you’re thinking, because if you are don’t even think about it.”
“What?! All I was implying was we could sleep really close to one another and try and absorb eachothers heat that we leave off!”

“I’m so sure! But I don’t even care. I’m so cold; I’d be willing to do JUST ABOUT anything. But not ANYTHING!”

Just got the chance to start checking out some of the Christmas stories. Off to a good start Jill. Hmmm, two interesting predicaments...

Hey guys, sorry it's been so long since I posted anything I was stuck on the beginning of this next part. I hope you enjoy it!


“Okay, you have a deal. I won’t do anything that you don’t want me too. We can just cuddle extra close and stay as toasty warm as possible.”

“Deal. But that’s it, do you hear me Robert Manning?!”

“Yes, Ma’am. I hear you.” He replied with a shivering grin on his face. They went back into the guest room, and crawled under every blanket he had in his house.

“Let’s try and actually get some sleep okay?”

“I’m not sure I can love.”

“Bobby!”

“What?! All I’m saying is that I’m cold.”

‘Yeah, and I’m princess Leia!”

“Well there was that one time you had your big headphones on and Myles…”

“Okay, that one time, but I’m not today. Let’s just sleep okay.”

“Okay, as soon as I get a goodnight kiss.”

“Fine, just a little goodnight kiss.”

She turned to her other side and gave him a kiss, a not so little goodnight kiss that is.

Of course it didn’t last that long before his cell phone rang. “That better not be Sparky.” He said as he rolled over to check the caller ID.

“Okay. So I give up on the whole sleeping thing.” Sue said, as she rolled over uncomfortably for the hundredth time that night.

“Same here. I’ve slept maybe 20 minutes.” Jack said after he was sure the fire gave enough light on his face for her to read him.

“So what do you wanna do since we can’t sleep?”

“I think I’m gonna call Crash and see how the weather is going there. I’m sure him and Tara are still up talking. Well, they’re probably up anyway, not sure if they’re actually talking or not.” He ducked as a pillow was launched at his head.

“You better behave, Jack.”

“I’ll try.” He said as he dialed.

“Hello?” Bobby answered, not so happily.

“Hey crash! Something wrong?” Jack said as he grinned at Sue at the realization of Bobby’s tone.

“No. We’re just a bit cold. There is no power pretty much all over this part of the city.”

“Oh, okay. Well we were having trouble sleeping so we thought we’d call and see how you guys were doing. We figured you wouldn’t be asleep anyway.”

“Yeah we were…ah…trying to find a way to keep warm.”

“It really couldn’t be that hard. After all Tara is there with you, isn’t she?”

“Yes she’s here, but I am not going there mate. By the way, how are you and Sue doing? Anything we should know about?”

“Nope, not a thing new here. We just had trouble sleeping.”

“Okay, well if you need any ideas Sparky, I know what will make you fall asleep,” he ducked as Tara launched a pillow at him, “Yah, you know like warm milk really helps me sleep.”

“Yah, I’m sure that’s exactly what will make you fall asleep tonight crash. Bye.” (Click)

“Bobby, stop prying. If anything happens between them, we’ll know. Trust me, I can tell when Sue has a new guy in her a life from a mile away. And I’m pretty sure things won’t be as normal around the office, if ya know what I mean? Anyways, I’m getting cold again, so I need something to keep me warm.”

“How about someone?” He replied with a smirk.

“I guess that’ll have to do.”

“So what now? Bobby wasn’t too thrilled that I called him.”

“I don’t know. There really isn’t much to do around here. With the snow and all, it’s not like I want to leave the room or something.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean.

“I suppose you could tell me about your family. I told you all about mine and I do’t know anything about yours?”

“I could. I have a younger sister named Tania. She and her husband Brian have 2 kids, Anna and Jonas. They’re 2 and 6 months. She and I were really close when we were young but when I left to go to Quantico, we kind of grew apart. We still are close, but not as close as we once were. You know what I mean?” She nodded. “That’s all there is to know about my family.”

“Alright I’m fresh out of ideas. I really don’t know what we can do.”

“Well, we could play the questions game.”

“What’s that?”

“Tania and I played it when we ere little. If one of us had something we wanted to find out about the other we could ask 3 questions to try and figure it out?”

“Okay. But I don’t know what I really need to find out about you, so I need to think. You go first.”

“Okay. Um…first question…Have you ever been in love?”

“Gees, kinda personal for a first question, but yes.”

“You can’t just give one word answers.”

“Okay, fine. He’s tall, dark, and handsome.”

“Oh, so someone like me then?!”

“I said tall, didn’t I Jack?”

“Okay, thanks for that blow.”

“I’m kidding. He’s about your height.”

“Number 2. Is it someone I know?”

“I believe you met him once or twice.”

“I don’t need my third question. It’s David, isn’t it?”

“David?!?! Goodness no! We broke it off months ago. He was totally not my type. Besides I was in love with the person I answered your questions about.”

“Okay, well I’m glad it’s not David at least.”

“Yeah. Okay, it’s my turn. Have you ever been or are you now in love with someone I know?”

“That’s both of my questions together. That’s cheating!”

“Hey, I formulated it into one big question. You could have too.”

“Yes. I am madly in love with someone you know.”

By this time Sue was nervous. He said “madly in love”. That meant he didn’t have feelings for her the way she did for him, because he could never be madly in love with someone like her.

“My next question is what does she look like?” She was gonna figure it out even if it killed her to find out who it really was.

“Oh man…um…well…She’s gorgeous. She’s pretty tall. Very slim, Blonde hair, the sweetest person I’ve ever met, did I mention absolutely stunning?”

“You said gorgeous the first time.”

“Well she is definitely both.”

“I see. Well, I still don’t really know, so I’ll have to use my third question. Is she with the bureau?”

“Yes. I think you may have worked with her. Do you want to know her name?”

“I think I have a good idea. It’s Carrie, up on sixth, right?”

“Carrie? No. She is not my type. Too Barbie doll like. She actually is on our floor, and her office isn’t to far away from mine either.”

“Really? I’m all confused as to who it is now so will you just tell me?”

“Okay, her name is S-U-E.”

Sue’s face dropped as she just realized what he spelt.

“I didn’t know there was another Sue on our floor.”

“There isn’t. You’re the only one.”

Sue was absolutely speechless. The one and only Jack Hudson was “madly in love” with her.

“Jack. I don’t know what to say.”

”Don’t say anything let me talk okay?” She nodded. “I’m sorry I never told you before. That day you stormed into my office was not an accident. It was God’s divine plan for the rest of our lives showing up. Sue I love you, with all of my heart, I love you. There is no words that can express how much I really do.”

“Jack…”

“Just wait. I’m sorry if you don’t feel the same but I really couldn’t wait another day to tell you, especially when I’m cooped up here with you.”

“Jack…I love you too. Did you really think I was talking about David when I said ‘Tall, dark, and handsome, and you’ve met him before’?”

“Well I really wasn’t sure. Because you didn’t come out and say his name is Jack and he works on our floor.”

“I’m sorry. But it is true. I was so scared to tell you. Especially since I didn’t think you felt the same and I’d be stuck with you for the rest of the weekend.”

“Stuck with me, ay?”

“You know what I meant.”

“I know. I really was going out on a limb too, but I was willing to take that risk because I was fairly certain the feeling had to be mutual. I also wasn’t worried because I knew that at least nothing could come between our friendship. But now that I know your true feelings. I don’t want it to be just friendship anymore Sue. I love you and you love me. I know we are supposed to be together forever. One thing is certain though. I want to take our relationship at whatever pace is right for you. Because I know that everything will work out okay.”

“Jack, I don’t want the slowest or the fastest moving relationship in the world. I don’t want to wait forever to be together, but I know the timing isn’t quite right yet either, because we should know eachother a bit better first.”

“I totally agree. So for now, we are just boyfriend and girlfriend. Moving at a steady pace that’s right for us.”

“Exactly how I would have put it.”

“One thing though. Since we really aren’t that serious yet, am I still allowed to kiss you?”

“I may just be dating you, but there is no way for me to control my feelings for you. So yes, you can definitely kiss me. If you didn’t I’d think there was something wrong. But I am warning you Jackson, kissing, and that’s as far as I will go. D-E-A-L?”

“D-E-A-L!” He said as he leaned across the couch to kiss her sufficiently but not as to scare her away.



Sue woke up the next morning shivering, to find someone tapping her shoulder.

“I guess you forgot to put wood on the fire last night huh?” He said to her once her eyes were focused.

“Jackson Hudson, Get that fire going this instant!”

“Or what?”

“Or I’ll…I’ll…I don’t know what I’ll do. But it won’t be pretty.”

“Or you’ll say “Good morning Jack, You are the nicest guy on the planet earth?”

“I would, but the problem is, I don’t like to lie first thing in the morning!” She spouted back with a grin.

“Okaaaaaay… I guess I had that one coming. I’ll get the fire going, and you stay nice and cozy in that bed until I do.”

“D-E-A-L!” She signed back as she crawled deeper into the blankets.

He got the fire going strong and warm. “I’m gonna go see what I can get for us to eat. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

“Okay. But don’t be gone too long.”

“Why? Will you miss me?”

“No, I’m just super hungry!”

“Okay, so I had that one coming too. I’ll be right back.”

He went to the door and as soon as he opened it he slammed it back shut.

“What was that about?” She asked surprised as she felt the sudden rush of cold air.

“Um I don’t think I’ll be going to get us breakfast anytime soon, unless you have a pair of snow shoes in your bag that I can borrow?”

“What do you mean?” She replied, suddenly worried.

“Yeah, it seems we are snowed in. It shouldn’t be too long before they can clear us out of here. It’s only…oh…I’d say 3, 3 ½ feet tops.”

“You’re kidding, right?” She said absolutely stunned as she crawled out of bed.

”See for yourself.”

She went to the window and slowly pulled back the curtain. “Oh my goodness. I better call my mom.”

Those were very tricky questions!! Glad it turned out more than alright. Now what is there to do when you're snowed in?...

I loved Sue and Jack's way of passing the time in the snow and it allowed them to finally reveal their feelings for each other.

Here's a bit more for you guys. I will be going back to college this week after a nice long break, so I'm not sure how much I can really get posted while I am there. Thank you so much for all of your fabulous feedback. Some of you have had some good ideas, that I might use, whether you thought they were "good" stuff or not, I'm not sure!



Bobby and Tara fell asleep soundly in each others arms. It had been a long night and no matter how close they were they couldn’t get warm enough. Finally after sleeping until 10 am, Tara stirred.

It’s seriously hot in here, she thought, the furnace must have come back on because there is no way Bobby can keep me that warm.

As she finished that thought she felt him stir against her.

“Good morning sleepy bunny!”

“What time is it?” He said with a loud moan as he stretched.

“Time to get up. I think the power is back on, because it is seriously hot in here.”

“Are you sure it’s not just because you’re in bed with me?”

“Ha, ha, ha, very funny Bobby!” She said as he covered her lips with his.

When they separated he said “That was not a very sufficient good morning kiss,” he finished as he pulled her a bit closer.

“Well that’s the best one you’re gonna get. I need to get up and take a shower. Do you care if I use yours, so I don’t have to go out in the cold?”

“That’s fine. But don’t blame me if you accidentally get a shower mate.”

“Robert Manning, I better not. I intend to shower this morning and that’s it.”

“Fine as long as you stay here all day with me. I have a feeling we’re snowed in anyways.”

“Okay, deal. Now I’m gonna go take a shower so how about you make us some breakfast?” She said as she ran from the room.

He got out of bed and decided to call Jack while he cooked.

Sue called her mom and admitted the fact that she had no idea when they would get out of there with all of the snow that had come over night. She was really worried and hoped it wouldn’t be too long. She missed her family and wanted to be there on Christmas eve, which was the next day. However, she didn’t mind the fact that she was stranded with Jack.

“So, we have absolutely nothing to do until we can get out of here and it’s kind of hard to get out to the fire wood. Hopefully it won’t be long and we don’t freeze to death.” Sue said after she ended the conversation with her mom.

“Well, I can think of a few things that can keep us warm until we can get out of here.”

“Like what?”

“Are you sure you really want to know?!”

“Yes…wait a minute…Jack…you better not be thinking what I have a feeling you’re thinking?”

“If you’re thinking I was thinking we could play twister then you’d be wrong. But if you were thinking more along the lines of cuddling on the couch, then you’d be right.”

“Jack, if that really is all you were thinking, then I approve.” She replied with a grin.

They grabbed a blanket off of one of the beds and cuddled on the couch. They sat there for almost an hour just being with each other and watching the flames, before they realized that they were kind of hungry.

“I think I’m gonna have to give in and go out in this to find some food for us. I’m not sure you’d like me much if I didn’t, because I’m satisfied by just being with you.”

“I love being here with you Jack, but that really doesn’t make my stomach stop growling.”

“I know what might get your mind off of it.” He said as he pulled her closer to him. He placed a light kiss on her lips and hoped she’d respond. When she moaned he took that opportunity to deepen the kiss. They only separated because Jack’s phone went off.

“Guess who it is?!” He said with a groan. “Hello Crash.” He said into the phone with a not so happy sounding tone.

“Sorry, Sparky. Did I…uh…interrupt something?”

“Yes, I’m afraid you did. We were just enjoying a little breakfast.”

“Are you sure it was breakfast you were enjoying?”

“Yes Crash, I’m sure. Not that it’d be any of your business anyway. What can I do for you?”

“We just woke up. The power must have some on during the night because we woke up roasting. Anyways, I’m making some breakfast while Tara is in the shower, so I thought this would be a good time to check up on you and the Sheila.”

“Well we are totally fine. A tad snowed in but other than that we are great, so if that is all you needed you can consider us checked up on, and we’ll talk to you later.”

Jack hung up the phone as Bobby was about to add something else to the conversation but he considered it over. “So where were we?”

“I believe you were just about to put some clothes on and go get us breakfast.” Sue said with a smile.

Jack groaned and agreed he was hungrier than he thought. He put on his jacket and boots and headed out in the snow. It drifted a lot because of the wind so it was only about 2 feet in front of their door now. It was still plenty deep to make Jack hurry as much as possible to get back to the warm arms of his beloved.
