I have quite a bit written...just need to type it up, and then I'll post it. Here's the intro
“Has he announced it yet, then?” the newcomer asked eagerly as she jostled her way through the crowd.
“No, not yet,” someone whispered and was shushed by his neighbour.
“Shhh. He’s reaching into the bag…”
A collective gasp circled the room as every elf strained forward to eagerly hear what Santa was going to announce. This ceremony had become the highlight of their Yuletide season. Held on December 1st it represented the true meaning of Christmas; a chance to reconnect with one of their special clients whom they had lost to adulthood.
Each year, Santa reached into his sorting sack of grown-up names and drew out the name of someone who needed a special dose of Christmas magic this year. The magic saw to it that they all remembered the child now grown; every visit, every gift, the triumphs and the tears. It was always exciting to see the dear child in adulthood, though often disappointing.
“Has he pulled it out yet? I can’t see!” complained a young elf at her elbow.
“Here, let me give you a leg up,” the newcomer said kindly. “He’s just pulling out the name now.”
They all watched as Santa looked at the gilt edged parchment. He nodded his head, smiling in remembrance and then looked out into the crowd. “This is going to be a very special Christmas indeed,” Santa told them, holding up the card for everyone to see. The words magically sailed off the page and grew into a shimmering neon-lit billboard flashing a name they all knew and loved. Their minds were flooded with memories, both happy and sad and they waited eagerly for Santa’s next announcement.
“Dewberry, I think. Yes Dewberry, I think you’re the best match.”
“Oh my goodness, that’s me!” the newcomer squealed excitedly, toppling the young elf she was holding onto the ground. “Sorry. Excuse me. Let me through please. That’s my name Santa just called.” Dewberry made her way to the front of the hall and stood bashfully next to Santa. She was still a terribly young elf for this kind of honour.
Santa squeezed her shoulder warmly. “You’ll do just fine,” he told her, passing the parchment into her hands. “Remember, your assignment is to make our Special Client’s Christmas wishes come true.”

sorry about the delay, but twixt my internet not working (

anyway, here's my first snippet....(I will make up for these first few posts later! I promise!

)
This is a re-post of the last paragraph of the intro, plus a tad more. *runs and hides*
Santa squeezed her shoulder warmly. “You’ll do just fine,” he told her, passing the parchment into her hands. “Remember, your assignment is to make our Special Client’s Christmas wishes come true.”
"But that seems like such a trivial Christmas wish! Surely that wouldn't make all their Christmases be bright!" She objected. Santa smiled knowingly. "You are right little one. What this dear person needs is a real dose of the Christmas Spirit! Now what are you waiting for? Christmas? Shoo, and good luck!"

Hey mister, get back here...you are giving new meaning to snippet. In fact I would suggest that you might have a serious disease called snippetiis. The only cure I know if is to post a long un-snippet like snippet and then to gradually increase the dosage until you werite a novel
And I can't believe we're on page 2 and we still don't know who Dewberry is assigned to

ok, I got bit by the Christmas Spirit, and feel generous! (actually, I just managed to wrangle the computer long enough to get more typed up!
)Bobby pushed a buggy that was loaded down with Christmas decorations towards the front of the store. His neighiborhood was holding a Christmas decoration contest, and he was determined that his apartment building would win.
"Well now! Things must not be as they appear, because you already look to be full of Christmas Cheer!"
"Come again?" Bobby was immediately captivated by this small child dressed in an elf costume.
"Santa sent me to give you a fresh dose of the Christmas Spirit, but you seem to have plenty as it is."
"Yup."
"Sooo...what are all the lights and stuff for?"
"I am trying to get my apartment building to win the neighiborhood decoration contest. Speaking of which, I need to get home to put these out, so why dont you get back to your parents and I will go check out?"
Bobby stood up and looked around, "Where are your parents anyway?"
"The North Pole"
"And they don't mind you wandering all around the mall by yourself?"
The small girl shook her head.
"Where are you supposed to meet your parents?"
"The North Pole."
"Okay, I tell you what. I'll pay for these, and we will go meet your parents there. That sound fine to you?"
"You can go to the North Pole? Gee! Santa must have accidentally grabbed the wrong bag of names!"
Bobby chuckled at the antics of the charming child, and headed towards the register, elf in tow.
Oh, and by the way...my long post seems to not be as long as I thought it was so.......

I hit my head when I fell over in a dead faint at the length of your post. Ouch! So it's Bobby -- that's a twist -- and very clever, having him think that Dewberry is a child. Nice protective FBI agent guy that he is making sure she gets to her parents all right!

"They're not here."
"Nope. Why would they be?"
"You said you were supposed to meet them here, right?"
"No, I said we would meet at the North Pole!"
"Listen kiddo, this IS the North Pole! See the sign?"
Bobby pointed to a sign reading "The North Pole" in big bold letters an obscene shade of red that was suspended high above the "Meet Santa" center.
"This isn't the North Pole! This is some crazy getup where parents drag their screaming kids and force them to sit in the lap of some fat guy dressed up in an imitation Santa Suit, so they can pay $15 to get a picture that hardly ever turns out to even be halfway decent!" She grabbed Bobby's hand, and dragged him over to a nearby Tiffany Lamp store, "THIS is the North Pole!" she exclaimed, not-so-gently poking at the top of a stained-glass globe. The highly jewelled sphere wobbled severely, and the box it balanced on shook precariously, and the globe began its descent towards the floor.

"Oh, no!" The small girl squealed.
It seemed like it was slow-motion as she snatched at the globe, but missed. Bobby covered his eyes, and braced himself for the sound of a shattering globe, and wallet. When the sound never reached his ears, he slowly peeked from between his fingers, then gaped at the scene in front of him.
