Let It Snow
Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
The tinny broadcast of the popular carol was certainly appropriate for their own weather forecast. It didn’t show signs of stopping. Traffic was snarled, planes grounded and trains overcrowded as potential travelers were forced to put their holidays on hold. There was no doubt; they wouldn’t be getting through tonight. They’d have to make the best of it here and try again in the morning. Turning to his companion he smiled apologetically and said…
“The door is jammed”, after sitting back beside her, and putting the gears in reverse. He pulled back into his parking space, not that it made a difference where he parked since it was Friday night and the garage was totally deserted. “I will trying maintenance”, taking his cell out. He got an automated answer, not that it surprised him, there was a snowstorm outside, anyone in their right mind left the Hoover building hours ago. He dialed the emergency number. “This is special agent Jack Hudson”, glad that a human voice answered. “I’m stuck in the underground parking, level 2. The outside door won’t open …Yes, I tried manually lifting it”, retorted Jack, slightly annoyed at the tone of the guy. “And no, it didn’t …and how I am supposed to get …” He stared in disbelief at his phone, before sighing loudly.
“What did he say, Jack?” She had followed his side of the conversation, and picked the frustration in his facial expressions.
“To exit on foot by the front entrance, that they would send a repair crew once the storm is over”, rolling his eyes at the ironic response.
“On foot?” exclaimed Sue. “Has he looked outside? Transit has stopped, taxis aren’t running. How are we supposed to go home? Walk? We’ll freeze to death before we even make it to the corner.”
“Exactly my point …but the connection was lost before I made it”, putting his dead phone back in his pocket. “I’m so sorry, Sue. If it wasn’t for me, you would be home sipping on a cup of hot chocolate while packing to go to your mom.”
“It’s okay, Jack”, smiling at him. “I wasn’t driving anywhere tonight.” Truth to be told she didn’t mind spending the day in the archives room in the basement with Jack. They shared lots of childhood stories while dusting old files searching for any link to the assassination of a mobster. “I wish we could have found what we were looking for”, leaving the car to follow him in the staircase. “I was so sure I previously saw Mortinello’s name in one of those files.”
“Well …we had fun”, winking at her. “Even though we missed the announcement sending everyone’s home before the storm turned into a blizzard. But I bet they have hot chocolate in the cafeteria”, opening the door for her. “Now I get to know what happened when your brother caught Santa kissing your mom.”
“Maybe”, wiggling her brows at him. He liked it when she flirted back with him.
“Let’s leave our coats in the bullpen”, welcoming the warmth of the building, a change to the cold and damp garage. The door closed behind them in a metallic sound. Not expecting anyone in the building anymore, it startled him and he peeked through the doorway.
“Jack, I’ll meet you up there …I just need to stop by …” pointing towards the ladies room. He saw the blonde woman entering the washroom. She was pretty. She had her coat folded in her arms.
“Go ahead.” He saw the dark hair man wait in the vicinity. He had seen him before. An agent if he recalled well …with the same woman almost all the time …his partner maybe? He couldn’t help notice the light in his eyes and the smile that followed her through the door. Maybe more than a partner, surmised the man.
The building was supposed to be empty, but without Levi she had no ears, and …Jack shook his head …he knew she liked her independence but he couldn’t help being overprotective of her. He hoped Lucy had time to pick up Levi at the vet before they closed, walking slowly towards the elevator. He could at least push the button up.

I'm hoping that the person watching Sue and Jack maybe Santa who is hopefully going to grant Sue's Christmas wish that Jack will finally tell her how he feels and that they can live happily ever after...
That's my first option... because I don't want to think about the other reason why someone would be hiding in the Hoover building spying on Jack and Sue because it certainly couldn't be good... this option could be rather a nail biting journey!
Whatever happens I'm really looking forward to the next part!
Take care,

We want her back - so undo it. We can't have any of these creepy types in a wonderful Christmas story! Unless, of course, it's an angel sent to help Jack and Sue along the way.

Sue entered the ladies room, and noticed the disarray in the corner near the overflowing garbage can. There were paper towels on the floor, some with blood on it.
“What happened here?” she wondered out loud, checking the vacant stalls. “Strange”, shaking her head. She never used this particular washroom before since it was mostly for visitors. Obviously the cleaning crew left before finishing their round.
It surprised her the dispenser wasn’t empty. She tossed the paper towel on top of the heap in the garbage can …and she screamed when she saw it ruffle.
+++++
The winds were so strong they violently shook the electric cables. Visibility was nil, still automobilists were driving to get home. The main roads and freeways were giant mazes of stopped cars and trucks, that the vehicles had to avoid in order to move forward only to collide with them or glide in the ditches, stopped by the mounting snow or the posts lining up every twenty feet. When a post came crashing down, the cables snapped and flew all over to land unsafely in the middle of the traffic. The power supply was cut in certain area, and darkness was added to the list of hazards that were threatening the city. Emergency services were stretched to the limit …and still, it wasn’t enough …

The scream startled him once more from his task. He only had time to see the agent rush inside.
“Sue”, waving to get her attention. Her eyes were locked on the garbage can. “What are you doing standing on the counter?” quietly laughing at the picture she made. He offered his help to get her down, but she shook her head.
“The …there’s …a rat”, she stuttered.
“Where?” pulling his gun out, his gaze wandering the room.
“You’re not going to shoot it, are you?” she asked in disbelief.
“Why not?” opening each door and looking in every corner.
“In the can …under the paper towel …”
“Are you sure?” eyeing the culprit can.
“It moved, Jack”, nodding vigorously. “Maybe we should just close the door and let the exterminator deal with it.”
“Good idea”, closing the door so it wouldn’t escape.
“Not with us in it”, she exclaimed, refusing to go down.
“Sue, we cannot let it rummage through the building …and I’ve always dreamed of shooting a moving rat”, smiling mischievously at her while she stared incredulously at him. “Maybe not dream …” tilting his head while approaching the can.
With the tip of his gun he carefully chucked aside one layer of paper towel at a time.
“Can you see it, Jack?”
“No, nothing”, as she picked his reflection in the mirror. He kept going …until his gun came in contact with something soft. “Oh my God …Sue!”

She was down the counter in a flash, a look of horror on her face as she watched Jack holster his gun and dig into the garbage can. The skin was an awful shade of grey, and it was still covered with blood.
“It’s barely breathing”, said Jack, carefully lifting it. “And so cold.”
“Give her to me, Jack”, unbuttoning her jacket and blouse. She placed the small infant against her bare skin before wrapping her arms around it. Next thing she knew Jack had placed both their coats over her and was walking her to the elevator, keeping her warm against him. She was in a daze, the coldness of the little body invading her soul. How could someone abandon her newborn baby in a trashcan four days before Christmas?
He watched the scene from the doorway. The blond woman was pale and shaken. She was holding something against her chest. The agent was helping her walk. After they entered the elevator, he ventured in the washroom. He noticed the blood immediately. One look in the garbage can told him what the woman was hiding. He set himself to work immediately.
The jolt of the elevator shook her. Darkness lasted only a moment, just long enough for the generator to kick in after the electricity was cut off. Yellow emergency lights gave an eerie look to the inside of the elevator, but at least she could read Jack’s lips.
“If we’re lucky, we won’t be between floors”, he told her, before prying the doors open. They were not leveled. The floor was three feet down. Jack jumped then turned towards her. “Sit on the ledge.” She did as he instructed, never releasing her grip on the small bundle. “Good”, reaching for her waist. He gently lowered her down, her body sliding against him. “How are you feeling?” She was shaking.
“Cooold”, she whispered.
“I need to warm both of you”, pulling her to him. ‘Or the infant doesn’t stand a chance’, he thought grimly. His mind processed the situation. With no electricity, the building would get cold …fast. Where could he get them? …Assistant director Duncan had a gas fireplace in his office.
He looked around. Wrong floor. He led them to the staircase, but before he pushed the door he stopped to face her.
“Sue, you will have to trust me”, lifting her head towards him. “We need to go up four floors. It will be dark but I won’t let go of you …I promise.” She nodded before the darkness engulfed them.
He kept his arm around her waist, holding her securely. She felt safe with him and she followed him blindly. He expected a sighed of relief when they exited to the hallway but when nothing came he wondered if she was in shock. Was the infant …he pushed the thought aside.
The door to the assistant director was locked, and picking locks was never Jack’s specialty.
“Where’s Crash when you need him?” he muttered under his breath playing with it. He gave up, and start pounding and kicking the door instead. When that didn’t bring any results either, he let his special agent training kick him …and shot the lock to pieces.

Interesting twists and turns. I'm pleased Sue and Jack found the baby, but it's unfortunately not just a reality in fanfiction land, on the news yesterday new born twins were abandoned outside a hospital over here in the UK, bless them. Let's hope Sue and Jack can warm up the baby and keep her safe and let's hope that shadowy figure is working on the right side of the spectrum, Santa, elf or angel... don't want to think about the other kind of possibilities!
Desperately, but patiently, waiting for the next post.

The room was cold. He quickly found the switch to the gas fireplace. Yellow-orange flames leapt instantaneously. He moved a couch in front of it and made Sue sit before reaching for the phone. One look through the window told him why the lines were down.
“We’re on our own”, he told Sue as he pulled her against him. Her crossed arms rested against his chest, and she leaned her head over his shoulder. He placed the coats over them, and gently massaged her back. Slowly she relaxed. He moved one hand up, and ran his fingers through her hair, something he dreamed of doing for a long time. The flames gave the golden locks orange and bronze highlights.
“The baby’s skin isn’t as cold”, she murmured after a while, oblivious to the world around her.
He stroked her cheek to get her to look at him. The dancing fire mirrored in her misty eyes. “That’s good”, smiling at her. “Is it wiggling?” but she sadly shook her head. “Let’s give it a few more minutes. It’s just getting comfy”, wishing he could convince himself, wondering how the infant even found the strength to move and attract Sue’s attention.
“Jack, how …”, but he placed his finger over her lips.
“Later”, tightening his embrace, leaning his chin over her head.
He didn’t know how long they stayed cuddled on the couch, or if he dozed off or not, but a jolt in her body refocused his attention.
“Jack, she’s …squirming”, she whispered in total astonishment, pulling slightly away.
“She?” he repeated, not having paid much attention to that detail when he picked up the seemingly lifeless little body. He helped Sue to seat beside him, while taking the coats off. The room had warmed up quite nicely.
“It’s a little girl …you didn’t notice?” opening her jacket and blouse to reveal a pinky infant, with a tiny fist wrapped around the laces of a silk black bra and trying to suck on the swell of a breast. “She’s beautiful, Jack”, tracing the contour of the little face with her finger. The infant moved her head to catch the finger that loomed near her mouth.
“You’re right … she is gorgeous …”, smiling in awe at them. “And hungry …not that she will get much where she’s …” He cleared his throat and gazed away from where he was looking. Suddenly feeling very self-conscious, Sue pulled on her blouse to cover herself and the naked infant, missing what Jack said before getting up and leaving the room.
“I’m sure he will be back”, standing up and giving the room a thorough look for the first time. Sue noticed an open door and went to investigate while soothing the little miracle.
