Let It Snow
Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
It doesn't show signsof stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
When we finally kissgoodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
The tinny broadcast of the popular carol was certainly appropriate for their own weather forecast. It didn’t show signs of stopping. Traffic was snarled, planes grounded and trains overcrowded as potential travelers were forced to put their holidays on hold. There was no doubt; they wouldn’t be getting through tonight. They’d have to make the best of it here and try again in the morning. Turning to his companion he smiled apologetically and said
“We’re not going to make it back to D.C Sue. We’ll get of this road and get back to my Mums. I’m sorry”
She smiled “Its ok. I’m sure it’ll be cleared tomorrow. I’ll catch a flight then”
Jack admired her optimism although from his years of living up in Wisconsin he knew it was misplaced; with the rate the snow was falling and no sign of it stopping he knew she would be stuck here for the duration of the holiday, and deep down she did too. “Until then though you can stay at my parents, they’d be thrilled to have you”
“Wont your parents think I’m intruding?”
Jack shook his head resolutely “No, they’d be thrilled to have you, Christmas is just a big party…” and this he trailed off sheepishly
“Jack” Sue asked, “I didn’t catch that last bit. You mumbled. I think”
There was no reaction, and Sue bit her lip before speaking in her best interrogators voice hoping it would shock him into responding “Jack Hudson, whatever it is you had better tell me now…”
He looked up her, his feisty little thing. Not that he would ever dream of calling her his letting out a deep breath he spoke “My parents have a formal thing” once again he trailed off. Sue however did seem daunted by this statement.
“So...?”
“You’ll be expected to be there”
“And?”
“It’s a couples thing. Very couples”
“Oh”
