When Charlie floated back into the bullpen, she realized Sue and Jack were about to leave. She followed along behind them but didn't really pay attention to what they were saying. She was more concerned with the dog, Levi, who seemed to almost..sense her presence. The academy had probably covered non-humans reactions to cherubs, but she hadn't really paid attention so she didn't know. Things seemed to be going good, and she hadn't spotted any of the other cherubs. They were probably still on Cloud Nine, waiting desperately for the arrival of Allie. She giggled. The good part about being on her intended subjects side? They were in the same city, so she didn't have to wait. They were given the assignment this morning and already she had made tons of progress. Dinner was some italian place that she figured was a little bit more upscale than the places they normally went, judging by the impressed look on Sue's face when they entered the restaurant.

"Jack! This place is so nice...and I'm dressed like this!" Sue protested as they sat down. Jack shook his head.

"You look absolutely beautiful, therefore you fit in fine." Jack did his little halfsmile and Charlie grinned too. That must be the bravery kicking in, and obviously a whole lot of lust would not be needed. This caused her to giggle more, and Levi looked up right where she was sitting. Oops. She stifled her laugh and watched how they interacted. She fingered her bag with her arrows and her confetti. She wasn't sure if now would exactly be a good time to use one, however Chrissy had already beaten her to the punch once already.

Deep in thought, she didn't notice Chrissy come up and fly behind her.

"Boo!" Chrissy yelled behind her ear.

"Ahhh!" Charlie screamed as she jumped up from her seat in shock.

"Hi Charlie."

Charlie turned around and glared at Chrissy. "That was so not funny."

Chrissy laughed and flipped her hair. "No, I'm pretty sure that was."

"Whatever. What do you want?"

Chrissy crossed her arms. "Just thought you should know Allie booked her flight. Our plan is in motion, and you can do nothing to stop me. Just a warning." Before Charlie could respond, Chrissy blew a fake kiss and disappeared.

"Ugg! I can't stand her!" Charlie said outloud, not thinking, and Levi was staring at her again. She only noticed as her subjects were paying the bill and leaving. Falling behind on the job.

She watched them walk back to Sue's place, who supposedly lived nearby. Charlie was getting tired and her wings hurt. It seemed forever but they finally stopped at a building that she recognized from the look-through. Sue's apartment! This would be good. Charlie had zoned out their conversation, but now she paid attention.

"So, that was nice." Sue said, playing with Levi's leash. "Being able to take my mind off work."

Jack nodded. Just kiss her already! Charlie thought, and missed whatever Jack said. He was leaning in however and --

Aww. He kissed her on the cheek. Still, that was pretty good. She thanked her bravery confetti. She watched as he pulled back and turned red slightly. Sue laughed and said goodnight. Charlie was conflicted. Who to follow? In the end she stayed in her spot and watched them both seemingly float away.

Kiss on the cheek, huh? Better get that Lust arrow going!!!

Now that's what I call progress. Upscale restaurant and a kiss on the cheek is more than we ever got on the show. However, I'm getting nervous about Allie.

After she watched Jack disappear, she waited for a moment and then decided she wasn't ready to go back to Cloud Nine yet. She made her way into the apartment and thought of her good luck. Tara, Lucy and Sue were all there! She took out her notepad and pen and figured perhaps this would be the time to maybe take some notes.

"Tara, it'll be fine. Just think, now that you're single, perhaps you can go MoGo JoGo again.." Lucy said with a glimmer in her eye.

"What?" Tara said and it took her a few moments before she turned red and started protesting. "How did you find out about that! I mean, and besides..what about..isn't he dating..and I'm not his...I mean, well..." Tara murmured rather quickly. Her brain was on overdrive and trying to think of every excuse possible.

"Never mind about me! What about you!" Tara turned to Sue. "You were gone a long time!"

Sue blushed too. "It was nothing. He took us to that really nice italian place down the street, the really expensive one that Myles always crows about?"

Lucy nodded. "I've been there. It's so nice. He took me our first date.." Lucy trailed off and stared out into space.

"Anyway," Tara pressed on, "I want details! I have hostage training! I know how to use it!"

Sue shook her head. "I, well...before you get excited, it was on the cheek. But still. He kissed me." Sue whispered.

"Wow Sue!" Lucy exclaimed, snapping back to reality. "That's a good thing, isn't it?"

Duh, Charlie thought.

"It was really sweet. But I'm scared. I mean, if he kisses me anywhere else, I'm fired."

"What?" Tara and Lucy said in unison, clearly alarmed as was Charlie. What the heck? she thought and wondered if she had missed anything.

Sue looked down. "I was called into the office, the other day. The powers that be don't like where my relationship with him is going. They said they've warned him and now they are warning me that we need to stay professional for both our jobs sake. The powers were talking about how they had to let go some very good agents for these reasons.."

"So that's what happened to Whyte and Robertson? They were together?"

Charlie's face fell. That was a major kink in her plans. Shoot.

"Aww, it'll be okay." Lucy said, hugging Sue.

"At least you got to have an office romance."

Lucy shook her head and sighed. "Look how good that turned out. It was...it was for the best." Tara looked at the pain in Lucy's face and knew she was just putting a brave face on.

Charlie saw the wheels turning in Tara's head as her face fell. In Tara's practical head, there went any chance of even beginning to think of liking Bobby that way. This needed major damage control.

Oh no! No wonder the clouds are so dark around them!

I know you are going to solve this one!!! After all, with Tara's brain in high gear, between her and Charlie, it's a sure thing. Of course, we need to deal with a few outside distractions!

You are SO creative coming up with all these things, the look-through, gateway, etc. And I so adore Charlie and support her mission 100%. This is just a quick note to let everybody know that I don't have time to post tonight as I haven't had time to write a full post yet.

The stupid no-dating rule the bureau has is driving me insane. I have to figure out a way to get around it.

I say just abolish the whole stinkin' rule! lol Or you could have a loophole: such as Sue not really being an agent and the rule only applying to agents in the same unit. Several people have used that for their stories. Or you're certainly welcome to get super creative, that would be fun too!

BTW, is this confetti sold anywhere? I'm thinking I could have some fun with it!

Taking her bag with the arrows, Charlie flew dejectedly back outside and asked for The Gateway. She was asked to repeat her name and where she wanted to go.

"Charlotte Cherub, Cloud Nine." She rolled her eyes and played with her hair. It was a good thing she didn't have an irish temper and spitfire tendency. It took forever, but finally she was granted clearance. She sighed and made her way home. She needed to regroup. Taking her look-through, she crawled into bed and sighed.

"Look-through," she commanded, "Give me the history of the current FBI director."

Charlotte soon fell asleep, but what she gathered from what the look-through was showing her was that the current FBI director had tightened up the rules on inneroffice dating because the FBI director before him had broken up his relationship with one of the agents in his unit. Before that FBI gave special clearance to couples who seeked approval and asked. Charlie knew there had to be a loophole somewhere. She was determined to find it..until it occurred to her. If she could fix the director up, maybe he could relax the policy back to the way it was?

Charlie was very pleased with herself. The only problem was, she couldn't waste any of her arrows. Which meant, off to see Charlene. Charlie gulped.

"Umm, Charlene?" Charlotte squeaked as she stepped into Charlene's office at the academy.

"Yes, Charlotte?" Charlene said in a somewhat annoyed tone.

"Charlie." She said out of habit before continuing. "I need extra arrows."

Charlene started to turn bright red and looked as if she were about to explode when Charlie continued on hurriedly. "I need them not for my subjects but for the director! Of the FBI! I can't get any of the subjects together because there is a very tight rule, with no loopholes whatsoever. I need to fix him up some how so his heart will soften and hopefully change the rule?" She finished somewhat meekly.

Charlene looked her up and down as the color drained from her face and she began to look more porcelain (normal for pureblood cherubs).

"Did you really not pay any attention at the academy? I know your teachers said you were distracted, but didn't anything sink in?"

Charlie looked down at her feet before looking up and meeting Charlene's eyes, who was trying not to laugh.

"What? What? I don't get it." She said as she watched Charlene try and fight off the laughter.

"Charlotte, it's a good thing you didn't tell your mother. She would have flew off the handle, no pun intended. One of the things about being a cherub? We are magical. Our arrows are magical. Our confetti is magical. So obviously, we would have addressed this issue before. Cupid and Cherubs have been around FOREVER, so we know."

"Okay. But I still don't get..?"

"Charlie, as soon as you launch, or any of the other cherubs launch an arrow, the policy magically changes for that unit. A subsection is added. The relationship is over looked. They get special clearance. There is a whole variety, the only one we kind of have trouble with is once the targets get married. So you don't have to worry. Chrissy informed me that she already shot Jack, so suddenly it works. When a wayward cherub tried to get Myles and Lucy together, a subsection was added that said that because she was a rotor and not an actual part of the unit, they could date. Does it really work? No. It does violate the rule. However, the subsection is there and so is the precedence."

Charlie's jaw literally dropped. She turned red and felt so stupid. When had they taught that at the academy? Why hadn't she paid attention?! Slowly, she thanked Charlene before exiting. She couldn't believe how stupid she had been. Of course. They were cherubs. They would have dealt with things like this before. Obviously there had to be a way around these sorts of things.

Hanging her head, Charlie shamefully stalked off to the 'Library'

Bracing for impact Charlie's head was spinning as she hurtled down towards earth. Stopping short, as always, she sighed and tucked a loose strand of a hair behind her ear. She fingers her bag and decides that she's played nice. She's sick of playing nice. She also knows time is of the essence as the enemy, Allie, is coming. That speed up her plan that she had layed out the morning before any of this had all happened.

She took out her red arrow and grinned evilly. She knew Chrissy or somebody who was with Chrissy would be watching her right now. Red is for lust and Charlie was planning to put this to full advantage. She took out a string and tied it in a loop around the tip of the arrow. This ensured it would hit both her targets if aimed right, instead of sticking and only hitting one.

Floating back into the bullpen she did a quick scan around the room. D and Bobby seemed to be deep in thought as they pointed at whatever they were doing, Tara was knee-deep in work. She had her headphones on and a full stack of video tapes that she needed to get through. Myles was out she guessed as he wasn't in the bullpen, but Lucy was gussied up slightly. A skirt instead of pants and a little bit more makeup than she had ever seen Lucy wear to work (thanks to the look-through). She wondered if there was anything to be probed when she saw Levi out of the corner of her eye start to approach her. Shoot. She flew over to wear Jack and Sue were working and grinned. She had had good luck so far getting them alone.

Slowly she placed the arrow into her bow and positioned it so the odd colored feather (a brighter red in contrast) was facing out. Drawing it back til the string was well behind her ear, Charlie hoped her A in Archery would come in handy. She positioned herself, exactly so and closing one eye, she fired. The flight from her bow to her subjects seemed to take an eternity, and she held her breath the entire time. Finally the arrow hit and it pierced right through Sue's stomach into Jack's arm. The arrow disippated in white sparks which meant that she had hit her target and the arrow would begin to take a (slow) effect. She took out her confetti but was amazed as Jack slowly and intently sat down at his desk before asking Sue if she felt like going out for pizza tonight as their last (date) outing had cost him a pretty arm and a penny.

"Though," Jack says with his wolfish halfsmile, "It was worth it."

Charlie smiles and goes Aww, before being slightly nauseated by how sweet the next few hours were gonna go.

Oh well.

All in a days work.

yeah - a magic loophole!!!! knew charlie would work something out ... now jackand sue just have to keep their lust in check whilst they are at work, could be a little embaressing otherwise!!!!

Cherubic loopholes are the best. And Charlie is a walking advertisement for paying attention in school.

As evil as Chrissy is, I wouldn't put it past her to have gone and 'influenced' him a little to put a kink in Charlie's plans. After all, why would he warn Jack and Sue to cool it in their relationship or risk getting fired?? My question is: Hello! what relationship???? Is he watching the same Jack and Sue that we are? Sounds fishy to me.

Jack asked Sue if it was okay if they headed to his first place before going out for pizza, which was how she ended up sitting on his couch scanning his living room. She hadn't really ever been here before, only seen a glimpse or two. It wasn't messy, but it wasn't neat either. It felt like it wasn't really lived in, and Sue guessed that was true. They worked and worked and the only time she really spent time at her house was to sleep, maybe to eat. It didn't bother her most of the time, but she could tell from the few personal touches sprinkled around that as much as Jack loved it here, he missed being his home, a country boy always at heart. She spotted a guitar in the corner and laughed softly to herself at the image of Jack playing. Not that he wasn't musical, it just --

Jack tapped her on the shoulder and she turned around sharply.

"Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.." Sue shook her head in reassurance.

"No, it's fine. I was just kind of absorbed in my own thoughts." Jack shoved his hands in his pockets and Charlie slowly saw him start to glow white again. Hello arrow!

"Listen, I'm really beat. Do you want to just order in? Besides, I kind of blew my budget last time we went somewhere."

Sue rolled her eyes and hit him playfully before agreeing.

Charlie laughed as the pizza slowly disappeared. The two of them had let their hair down, (so to speak) and were just relaxing. Charlie had found out the cases they had been working on very highly sensitive and very taxing and up until the end of January they hadn't gone home for more than a few hours to shower and get dressed. They had found some old black and white movie on TV to which Levi was barking at quite frequently. Charlie thought this slice of domesticity was rather sweet. She hoped Chrissy was watching. This all felt rather natural and not forced and really, she hadn't needed her arrows yet.

"Sue, you have something...right..there." Jack pointed. Sue's brain registered what he said and started wiping near the bottom of her chin. Jack laughed and shook his head.

"Let me," he said, leaning forward and gently cradling the left side of her head. He glowed white again and Charlie squeed out loud. She turned red, but made herself focus on what Jack and Sue were doing.

"There," he said, wiping a smidgen of tomato sauce from the pizza off her face. Instead of pulling back he searched her eyes for a moment and leaned forward slowly, giving time for her to back away, make an excuse, do something...

she didn't. Instead, she closed her eyes and let Jack kiss her. Charlie cheered! Yes! Take that Chrissy! The kiss was soft and sweet and rather different than the one from Callahan + Merced. Charlie knew if this was a movie the romantic music would have swelled and fake fireworks would have gone off in the background. She was mesmerized and gasped as abruptly out of nowhere Jack pulled away and jumped. Sue's expression mirrored her own as her eyes opened. They both turned at the exact same time and saw Allie in the doorway.

Shoot.
