Sorry, everyone! But I don't get a chance to write writing.gif until I get home from work and catch up on the jobs I needed to do... marking/planning/general prep! So I don't usually make it to my friendly computer until 7pm my time and that would make it Thursday in Australia and lunchtime in the US. And as I don't have any story written in advance, I write as I post. biggrin.gif Sorry! adulation smilie.gif So I thought I'd beg for forgiveness, and as a reward for patiently waiting so long I'll post two parts tonight!

I hope you enjoy! Thanks again for your patience! biggrin.gif

They pulled up outside a small colonial style house in Takoma Park. Tara got out of the car and followed Bobby up to the house, as they reached the front door D opened them and welcomed them inside the porch.

“Welcome to your new home,” D began, “It’s fully furnished and here are they keys for you, Mr. and Mrs. Manning.” He handed the keys to Bobby who quickly accepted them and placed them in his pocket.

“Thank you, Mr. Gans for all of your help,” Bobby replied, in case of the possibility of any neighbours overhearing their conversation.

D turned towards them and began to speak quietly, “SOG are watching the house and its also fitted with a panic alarm system, which will be monitored. “If you need anything further, you can contact me at the office, or on my cell.” He added louder and made a show of handing Tara his business card.

“Thank you again, Mr. Gans for all of your help,” she replied.

“You’re welcome,” D replied as he headed down the steps to the driveway.

Tara watched D leave, now she was truly alone with Bobby, her heart pounded in her chest; it was so loud she thought he could probably hear it.

“Hey, Tara!” He said for the third time, she certainly wasn’t with them today, he thought, it was the second time that afternoon when she hadn’t responded to her name. “Tara,” he said a fourth time and gently touched her on the shoulder.

She jumped as she felt someone touch her shoulder bringing her quickly back to earth, “Sorry, I was just admiring the park.”

He smiled, although he was sure she had something else on her mind, perhaps it was something to do with the piece of paper he had read earlier in her apartment, “This house must be costing the bureau a fortune.”

“Yes, Randy’ll be having heart failure at the expenses.”

He grinned, “Yes I can imagine his face when he sees the form,” he paused for a moment to close the door. “Shall we explore?”

“Yes,” she replied moving into the living room.

She looked around the living room; it was tastefully decorated with cream painted walls, a cream coloured sofa and matching chairs and a large traditional style fireplace in the centre of the far wall. A doorway from the living room led into a large kitchen and dining room.

Bobby followed her into the kitchen, “Wow! This is a very nice kitchen, perhaps we’ll have to invite some friends round for dinner.”

She smiled, “Maybe, I know Sue and Lucy will be desperate to see the house and it would be strange if our neighbours didn’t see people coming and going from the house.”

“One thing though.”

“What?”

“If we did have a dinner party, I hope you can cook, because unless it come out of a packet and can be placed in the microwave I’m not going to be of much help.”

She shook her head, “Typical, I get stuck on assignment with a man who can’t cook. Well we could be in serious trouble if I can’t cook too,” she teased.

He looked shocked, “You can’t cook?”

“You’ll just have to wait and see, won’t you?” she called over her shoulder as she headed out into the corridor to check upstairs.

At the top of the stairs there were four doors, one led to a small family bathroom, and she guessed that the other three doors were bedrooms.

“You choose which room you would like and I’ll take one of the others,” Bobby offered from behind her.

“Thanks,” she replied as she opened the door to the first room and revealed a brightly decorated room with a crib in the corner. “I guess neither of us will be using this room.” She could feel him peering over her shoulder into the room.

“No, not unless the F.B.I. have something up their sleeve they haven’t shared with us,” he teased.

“There wasn’t any mention of children in the case file, so I think we’re pretty safe on that count,” she replied turning around and meeting his gaze with her own. “Two doors left, shall we take a look?”

He nodded and moved towards the next door, he opened it and stepped inside, she followed him in and she was pleasantly surprised by the room, it had a large window that overlooked the park, allowing the bright afternoon sunshine to flow in. The walls were painted a pale yellow and there was a queen sized bed in the middle of the room.

“I’d like this room,” she declared, sitting on the edge of the bed. “It’s got a nice view over the park.”

He walked over to the window and appreciated the view, “That’s fine, I’ll take the room next door then.”

She stood and headed towards the door, “I guess I ought to check out the room I turned down,” she grinned.

“You could have made a bad choice, mine might have an ensuite.”

“We are talking about the F.B.I and its limited resources, well that’s if you ever talk to Randy about resources.”

“Well Randy doesn’t have much of a life outside of his office, I bet his apartment has everything catalogued and categorised.”

“I don’t think I want to imagine what Randy’s house or apartment might be like,” she shuddered at the thought.

“Okay, no more talk of Randy, let’s check out my room,” he swung open the last door and whistled. “Are you sure you don’t want to swap?”

She looked around the large room, which had two windows that overlooked the back yard, in the middle of the room was a large king sized bed, the walls were cream and the carpet was a rich chocolate brown. She noticed Bobby open a small door, which revealed a small ensuite shower room.

“This is a nice room, but I’ll stick with the room with the view,” she replied smiling.

“Okay,” he replied closing the door. “How about we unpack and order in pizza for dinner?”

“Sounds good to me. The sooner we settle in the sooner we can solve the case,” she replied following him out of the bedroom and back downstairs.

Thursday 2nd February 2006

7.30 am

I awoke hunched over my computer; the right side of my face had a lovely pattern of indentations from my keyboard in it! Then I saw the time! I was incredibly late and it had all been down to researching the best techniques to persuade Target that I am the woman for him. Maybe too much research is a bad thing?

8.45 am

I arrived in the bullpen, fifteen minutes late. I could feel everyone’s eyes on me, I am never late!

Target asked if I had had a hot date last night, I decided to not give him the whole truth and dangle an opportunity to see if he could possibly feel any jealousy towards another man taking me out. When I replied, maybe, I’m sure his jaw flinched a little. Or maybe it’s just my over active imagination.

(Note to self, I’ll have to make sure I talk about dates with him present to see if I can get any other reaction from him, because it might just have been a nervous twitch, or was he just removing the last morsels of his morning doughnut from his mouth?)

Target then dashed all my hopes; when he offered to make sure that my date treated me right otherwise he would have to deal with them. Target demonstrates protectiveness towards me, but maybe not the protectiveness that means that he could possibly see me as a romantic interest. Maybe it’s just brotherly protectiveness, which is nice but not what I need!

(Note to self: New search on the Internet, how to make yourself desirable to a member of the other sex. I hope it doesn’t involve high heels, because I’m not very good on those, I don’t want to break my ankle in his presence, not unless it is in the line of duty! Although being carried in his arms because I couldn’t walk has benefits, but I don’t really want to incur physical pain! Unrequited love is painful enough!)

I should have known that my day wasn’t going to go well when I overslept. D’s new case took undercover operation to a whole new level! I’m going to be married to the Target!!!

(Note to self: The relaxation techniques I have mastered in my yoga class paid off, because I’m sure I would have hyperventilated at D’s proposition of me marrying the Target if I hadn’t remembered my breathing lessons!)

10.00 am

Target and I entered D’s office. I missed the first part of the conversation, my mind was still caught up in the fact that I was going to be married to Target and living with him for possibly two weeks!!!! Unfortunately D caught on to the fact that I wasn’t listening and had to pull me back to reality.

He handed me a manila file with my cover details, web design was no problem, Target and I had been married for six months, that’s a lot of history we need to catch up on and I don’t want to get caught in a lie.

After cover stories had been discussed and our contact within the company identified D produced a small black velvet box from his desk drawer. As D handed the box towards Target, he reminded us that Randy wanted us to take care of them as they belonged to the F.B.I.

I know Target said something, but I couldn’t focus on anything other thaN him plucking the rings from the box and turning towards me, grasping my left hand and sliding one of the gold bands on to my finger. My heart was pounding in my chest and my stomach was doing somersaults and I’ll admit that at that moment I wished we were standing in a pretty little church surrounded by family and friends rather than in D’s office.

Target then announced that I was now his wife.

All I could do was nod, because I knew my voice had evaporated and there was no chance of any coherent speech not until I could stop my stomach flip flopping and my heart pounding.

12.00 pm

Lucy, Sue and I went out for a quick lunch before I headed home to pack. Sue offered me advice on how to take on the role as one half of a married couple in an undercover operation, whilst Lucy wanted an invite to see my new home.

1.00 pm

I arrived home to pack for the operation; Target had arranged to collect me at 3.00 pm. I spent the first hour lying down on my sofa trying to get my mind and body in shape. Every time I allowed myself to think of the case I thought of how close I was going to be to the Target and that led to a cacophony of emotions and sensations to dance through my body. Was I going to survive two weeks of undercover work?

(Note to self: If I do survive this operation and it isn’t successful I’m going to ask for a transfer. If I do survive this operation and it is successful, I’m going to decline active operations; I much prefer coordinating from the van.)

2.39 pm

Someone knocking on my door disturbed my packing, or rather lack of it. I went to the door and found Target standing there a huge, adorable, heart melting grin on his incredibly handsome face. I invited him in and offered him coffee whilst I retreated quickly to my bedroom to compose myself and pack the remainder of my luggage.

(Note to self: I’m not going to survive two weeks this close to Target unless I can control my breathing and maintain rational thought.)

After packing we left my apartment, although I have a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that I forgot something important.

4.00 pm

We arrived at our temporary home. Wow! It’s gorgeous, three bedrooms, backyard and a view of the park. Target was the perfect gentleman and allowed me to choose my room; fortunately the F.B.I had thought the plan through and had given us a house that had enough bedrooms so that we didn’t have to share. I know I would have turned into a puddle if I had to share a room with the Target. That would have been a give away!

The one thing we hadn’t expected to find was a baby’s room. At first when I entered the room I couldn’t keep the image of the Target and I standing by the crib watching our own baby asleep inside, from filtering in my mind. It was the perfect picture of a family.

Apparently Target can not cook. I led him to believe that possibly I couldn’t cook either. Maybe I can make sure his heart is mine by cooking delicious meals for him. Drat! I forgot my cook book.

(Note to self: Search Internet for best romantic dinner recipes.)

6.00 pm

Target and I had finished unpacking and ordered pizza from local delivery restaurant.

Target likes a thin crust pizza with pepperoni and red peppers. He does not like to use a plate and happily ate his pizza from the box.

(Note to self: I should not, repeat not, look at Target when he is eating; it is extremely difficult for me not to choke on my own dinner, when closely observing his jaw, dimples and eyes up close. I need to move past this food fetish!)

It took great restraint not to reach out and wipe the small smudge of tomato sauce that lingered on the edge of his top lip when he had finished eating. His tongue however, did satisfactorily remove the smudge of tomato sauce and I promptly dropped my slice of pizza on to the table. Fortunately it wasn’t the cream carpet in the living room, because Randy would have indeed died and gone to heaven, if he thought he would have to replace the carpet in the house, because the tomato sauce would not have been removed easily from it.

8.00 pm

Finished setting up my computer in the study, formerly the child’s room. I guess the F.B.I acquired the fully furnished house quickly; I can’t seem to think of another reason for the crib, unless someone is trying to taunt me with a future that I could so easily see me living.

Target was helpful in moving a table into the room from the garage and a chair. Although, his lack of computer knowledge came through when he tried to attach the printer to the monitor port on the back of my laptop. Fortunately I caught him before he caused irreparable damage to my computer, I was impressed with how calm I stayed; my laptop is virtually a member of my family!

(Note to self: Target needs to be given the opportunity to develop professionally; perhaps a course on basic computers would be appropriate? I’ll check the professional development book when we return to the bullpen to find him a suitable course.)

9.00 pm

Target and I watched T.V. He sat on the sofa and I sat in the chair, the angle of the chair is perfect to observe target, although he did catch me a couple of times watching him. My observation skills definitely need to be refined and developed; I guess I just identified my own professional development need!

10.00 pm

The pressure of watching him and the lack of sleep experienced last night became too much. I needed to get some sleep, so I excused myself and headed for bed.

I quickly changed for bed and caught up on my operation journal.

Tomorrow perhaps I’ll determine what Target wears to bed… Sorry that last word was smudged I dropped the pen at the thought of Target’s nightclothes and it made an ink spot.

(Note to self: when writing observation journal use pencil, no ink smudges or stains to ruin the notes.)

A warm sensation on her cheek caused her to stir; she cautiously opened her eyes and was welcomed with the sun streaming through the window of her bedroom. She stretched, refreshed from a relaxing night’s sleep and pulled back the comforter and climbed out of bed, she walked over to the window and pulled back the drapes, enjoying the beauty of the morning over the park.

She lost herself in the view, parents walking children to school, joggers and dog walkers. The smell of burning; brought her out of her reverie and she hurried out of her room, plucking her weapon from the bedside cabinet drawer. As she hurried downstairs the smell became more powerful, she checked the living room before heading into the kitchen.

The kitchen was filled with a dark acrid smoke. Through the smoke she could make out Bobby holding a charred piece of bread between his forefinger and thumb cursing quietly to himself he dropped the offending piece of food into the trash can.

She couldn’t help but giggle at the sight before her.

The sound of her laughter caused him to turn towards her, the look of frustration on his face melting into a smile; that eventually turned into laughter as he finally saw the funny side of the situation.

“I thought I’d make you breakfast,” he said through his laughter.

Controlling herself one hand holding her side, “That’s a kind thought, but I thought the house was on fire, or we were under attack!”

“That explains the interesting accessory to your wardrobe,” he replied nodding to the gun she still held in her hand.

She glanced down at her gun and then she remembered her attire and she could feel the blush spring to her cheeks. “Well at least I’m prepared for any eventuality.”

“That’s good to know that I will be protected by Winnie the Pooh and friends,” he teased gently.

“If you don’t stop teasing I won’t cook you breakfast,” she replied.

“In your pyjamas?” he asked hopefully.

She felt the blush returning to her cheeks, “No. You’re going to remove all traces of burnt toast whilst I shower and change and then I’ll cook breakfast. Can you manage that without any more disasters?” she teased.

He shook his head, “It was a different toaster to the one I’ve got at home; how was I to know that the three setting on this toaster would cremate any slice of bread that it should happen to come into contact with?”

“Well you learned the hard way, didn’t you?”

“Many lessons in life are hard to learn and you must agree I do learn in style!”

She grinned, “Yep, I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve ever awoken to the smell of burning, guess I’ve had rather a sheltered life!”

“Well, consider me your tutor on expanding your horizons.”

“As long as your curriculum doesn’t include any more kitchen disasters, because you will be incurring the wrath of Randy by yourself if you burn the house down.”

“You wouldn’t stand by me?”

She laughed at the puppy dog expression he pulled, “Depends on the extent of the damage, I would actually like to be able to live on my salary, not watch it disappear back into the F.B.I to pay for fire damage.”

“Point taken.”

“Anyway, I’ll leave you to your cleaning, I’m off to shower and change,” she replied as she turned to head back upstairs. As she walked away she was sure she could feel his eyes following her out of the room. If only she had bought nightwear that was perhaps a little more revealing last time she had gone shopping, rather than her flannel pyjamas, oh well, she thought, at least I know for a fact he can’t cook.

Ready to take on the day, now she was showered and changed she returned to the kitchen to find Bobby sitting at the dining room table, “It smells better in here now the cremated toast has been removed,” she said as she headed to the refrigerator. “Scrambled egg on toast okay?”

“That’s just what I had planned, well until I tangled with the toaster,” he replied. “Scrambled eggs would be great. Can I help?”

She looked at him and grinned, “Well I don’t think I’ll let you near the toaster but you can scramble the eggs, you do know how?”

“I’m insulted! I might not be able to handle a new toaster, but I can scramble eggs, it’s just the cooking of the scrambled eggs I’ve not perfected.”

She giggled, “Sorry, I couldn’t resist.”

He stood beside her at the counter and cracked the eggs into the bowl and began to beat them with a fork. “Just wait, I’m sure I’ll find something to tease you about before we’ve finished this case.”

She looked at him out of the corner of her eyes, “I can’t wait.”

He finished scrambling the eggs and poured them into a pan Tara had heated on the hob, he watched as she moved the eggs around the pan, she was so graceful and yet there was something alluring about her. His mind briefly returned to the scene earlier in the kitchen when she had hurried to back him up in her pyjamas, he couldn’t have imagined such a perfect picture. Tara her hair wildly floating around her face; dressed in Winnie the Pooh pyjamas that he was sure she’d chosen thinking they would hide her fabulous figure, although he thought the pyjamas were even more sexier than any silky nightdress. The pyjamas suited her character, they were perfect and the picture was completed with her clutching her gun in her delicate fingers ready to protect him if he had needed it.

Why had he been such a drongo after the Mojo Gogo concert? He could have started a relationship with someone who he could really love and care for; instead he ran in fear and chased after the safe option, which in the end had hurried to the other side of the country.

He seemed to be staring off into space a contented smile on his lips; she wondered what he was thinking about, or rather who. The scrambled eggs were done and the toast was nearly ready to pop out of the toaster. “Bobby,” she called, but he didn’t respond, she reached out and touched his arm with her hand, he looked at her and smiled, “Earth to Bobby, breakfast’s ready.”

“Sorry, I was just thinking,” he replied.

“I could tell you were thinking, the question is what about?”

A look of alarm crossed his face as he desperately tried to think of an answer that wouldn’t make her feel uncomfortable, “Er… The case.”

“Ah!” she smiled knowingly, her heart sinking simultaneously, a look like that could only mean one thing a woman, he obviously had a new girlfriend she hadn’t picked up on. “Are you going into the bullpen?” wanting to change the subject.

“Yes, Jack’s had the tech guys set up a telephone line for our cover, any calls anyone makes can be answered by Lucy and then me.”

“Better keep up appearances, because the other couples didn’t spend twenty four hours together,” she replied as she spooned the eggs on top of the toast.

Spending all day every day with her was something that he only dreamed of, he was disappointed that he had to go to work and also he was worried, especially if they had already attracted the murderer. “You’re not alone, though,” stepping closer to her, taking the plates from the counter, “SOG are outside and Sue and Lucy will be no doubt calling in and I’m only at the other end of the phone.”

She gave him a stern look, “Bobby I’m an Agent, just like you, I can handle myself.”

He grinned, “I’m sure you can, especially after this morning.”

She batted his arm with her hand, “Eat your breakfast; otherwise you’ll be late for work.”

“And that would never do, would it?”

She shook her head, “I have been late once in five years, once!”

“I know, and I’d hate for that one occasion to tarnish your record, where if I turn up on time, there’d be an investigation into the reasons why.”

She giggled, “Go and get ready, they’ll be expecting doughnuts.”

“I’d hate to let them down,” he called over his shoulder as he headed upstairs.

Tara washed breakfast dishes and was just putting them away when Bobby entered the kitchen, “I’m ready to go,” he glanced at his watch, “and if the traffic’s on my side I might even make it on time.”

“Have a good day; I’ll call the bullpen regularly to check in, especially if I make any developments with the computer.”

“Good. Aren’t you going to see me off from the doorstep?” he asked hopefully. “We need to give a good performance, especially for the neighbours.

She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, “I’d hate to blow our cover.”

“That wouldn’t be good on our first full day, would it?”

“No, now if you don’t move you will be late,” she said shooing him to the front door.

“I’m going, I’m going,” he replied as he hurried out of the door, he turned suddenly on the porch and leaned forward and briefly kissed her on the lips. He looked into her eyes as he spoke, “I’ll see you later, love. Have a good day.”

She looked at him, her mind awash with thoughts and her stomach twisting and turning. “You too,” she managed to utter through the confusion.

He briefly touched her cheek with his fingers, alarmed at the look on her face; there was certainly something on her mind. Perhaps he could try and get her to talk about it later? “Be careful,” he said quietly before turning and walking towards his car.

She managed to regain enough composure to wave at his car as he drove down the road, she headed back inside and closed the door; she leaned against it. What had just happened? It was nothing more than a chaste kiss, yet it had virtually reduced her to a puddle. She needed to find out whether she had any competition; he had definitely been thinking of something other than work earlier, perhaps she could get him to talk about it later? An idea jumped into her head, she would need a recipe and to go shopping, but she was going to cook a dinner Bobby would never forget.

I think it's hilarious they both want the other to talk about what's on thier minds and its the other person! biggrin.gif Now, keep Tara and Bobby safe so they can figure this out, okay, Sairs?

Great work.
