Wendy soared high in the sky. The ground was far beneath her and the people looking like ants scurrying around while the wind blew against her small yet sturdy frame. She moved gracefully as she dipped and dived. She was a creature of love, a bird of passion and a symbol of peace. She moved her strong wings with great delicate ease, she was on the search, and her mission was a simple and uncomplicated one. It was to unite hearts together and to bind them as one forever. All she needed was to find two such hearts that was yet to be joined and then to work her art to bring them together. She found great peace and joy when uniting together soul mates.
She would grin and bear it whenever others mocked her when they laughed at the notion of a ‘soul mate’ but she knew differently. She was born with the gift to recognise such people and she would do anything to make her gift a good one. Now her real problems went with her wings or her inability to make herself understood but was with people themselves. Humans she reckoned was the slowest creatures ever-even turtles were quicker in relation to their life span. Each couple she had ever worked on would take all her imagination and skill to make them see sense. In the past she had used brut force, silly little tricks that had really undermined her intelligence and obvious acts. She wondered with this next couple that she was searching for in the DC area what skill she would have to resort to.
She soared high above a rain cloud and looked down as the water arched from the cloud and splashed onto the ground. Her dazzling white feathers reflected the suns rays making her look like an angel in flight. Closing her beady eyes she felt the wind calm the nerves that always rose whenever she was closing in on her next lovers. She knew she was drawing nearer to DC, she felt a magnetic surge of energy as she started her descent. Suddenly what had at first appeared to be a great black rain cloud that was looming above her started to dip with her she felt something else grow within her; fear. Rapidly she started to beat her wings trying to increase her speed of descent. Looking up she saw the glint of razor sharp talons as they came down upon her, in a blink of an eye she felt a sharp pain pierce her flesh and her snow white feathers became blood red.

Yay for being the first person in on the new challenge Ails!
I love the start you have going here. Except for what happened to the sweet love bird. I don't like those big bad birdies. (Should we sing "Bye Bye Birdie"...oh goodness, I can't believe I just brought that up lol). Anywho, here's my thought: Wendy was looking to put Jack and Sue together (who else?! lol) and then the bad birdie got her and she ends up in front of the Hoover building where dear kind-hearted Sue finds her and unknowingly gives Wendy close access to one of her subjects so she can work her magic. Hmmm, am I close?! Carry on Ails!

Yay! Another story from Ails! Wa-Hoo!
Wait a minute, here. Don't you still have another story going on that you need to finish up with all kinds of warm fuzzies first?

Oh well, that's okay. I'll take two from you anyday.
You're off to a fantastic start! I'll bet Sue's going to find the poor bird and bring it to the Bull-pen where all the girls are going to care for it. Right?
Can't wait for more!

It's so sad to see the little birdie being hurt so soon. But it's a love story, right? No angst? So that should sit well with me, I think..
Wondering which couple the little birdie is going to bring together? Maybe he/she's a multi-tasker and can bring all of them together..
A girl can dream, can't she?

The soft grass tickled her bare legs as she lay stretched out on her back lawn, clasping her hands above her head and stretching heavenwards she felt her joints pop as the tension was released. Flipping her fringe out of her eyes she allowed the unusually hot spring sun beat down upon her face. She felt the scorching rays sooth her overwrought skin. Tossing over onto her back she crawled a few feet into the shade where she hit the space button on her laptop to bring her back to the program she was working on. Giggling she watched her cartoon fairy creation whiz across the page. Cupping her cheek with one hand she thought wistfully how wonderful it would be to have a fairy godmother to come and make all her dreams come true.
Dreamily she melted into her usual daytime and nighttime fantasy. Her eyes glazed over slightly as her eyes turned skywards. Men with bulging muscles and broad chests in navy uniforms flashed thru her mind but it were one man in particular that took this form. The white uniform hung perfectly on his broad frame and his height accentuated the fit. The cap low over his piercing eyes made her heart pound in her chest. She felt her clothes as being nothing but plain compared to this dazzling man before her. She felt self conscious as she bushed a dirty hand across her grimy cheek and up into a straggly hair. When she dared to look up she looked into the eyes of a man who did not see her ragged clothes or grease streaked face or her split ends instead she looked deep into the eyes of a man who saw her passion, her heart, her strength and her determination and was not scared of it. She felt a pull in her belly as she stepped forward and before she could blink she felt the ground beneath her vanish as she landed safety into his arms. She giggled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and his cap landed on her head. Feeling like she was princess they left the world of work and escaped into the blazing light.
Tara sighed as she rolled onto her back. Her head beneath the canopy of the oak tree while her legs felt the warmth of the spring sunshine. As she stared up to the cloudless sky she saw something that made her lean forward and stare closer. She could swear that something was falling from heaven. Narrowing her eyes to slits she shielded them as well as she watching the falling shape come towards her.

Wendy felt the wind gush pass her as she tried her hardest to control her descent. She was an experienced flyer and she knew how to crash land like no other bird however such knowledge did not stop the panic from filling her up from the inside out. The evil bird was gone and that was a small mercy she thought but she did not know what she was going to experience on landing. All she needed was to come face to face with some bored or worse a hunger cat. Cats were one animal she could not stand. She flapped her one good wing and felt herself go into a spiral descent which soon made her feel giddy.
“ahhhh” she groaned as she saw the ground looming up to meet her and she saw something else. Opening her eyes she could see a woman with short blonde hair watch her. Friend or foe, she squawked as the distance narrowed.
With every ounce of her reserve energy she struggled to keep some control. Her one good wing was straining under her weight as she continued to move it up and down. She could now make out the woman’s face and something else, the one thing that always directed her towards her new job. Surrounding the woman was a halo of rosy pink light, a symbol of desired love but un-experienced love. Wendy smiled despite her situation; she had found the lady portion of her next couple. This disaster could turn into something good she told herself. With a soft thud she came to rest on the spongy earth beside the lady. Closing her eyes she felt her body go limp.

Tara jumped back as the little bird landed beside her. Tara hand flew to her chest as she approached it. Crouching down she saw that it was a stunning dove and it was then she noticed the blood stains on its feathers. In no time she had scoped the bird up into a clean tea towel that was on the line drying. Cradling the injured bird to her chest she headed inside, cooing as she went. Without a second thought she quickly phoned Sue and thru a relay operator found out a name of a reputable vet. She could clearer see the slow raise and fall of the creature’s chest as air went in and out as she more tighter wrapped the bird up, being very careful of it’s injured wing. Holding it close she moved quickly to her vehicle with the name and address of the vet on a slip of paper. Revving her engine she pulled out of her drive and was soon on the open road.
Wendy stirred in the passenger seat as the car rolled over the natural bumps of the road. She felt both safe and warm even though pain was still shooting up her wing. Twitching she let out a small coo and instantly felt a gentle hand comfort her. Using her one available beady eye she took in her surroundings. She could smell a fruity scent in the air, perhaps mango she thought as she inhaled. She could also see a stuffed Roo dangling from the car door and a plastic eeyore on the dashboard. Sniffing her makeshift blanket she could detect a hint of lavender and camomile. This was a woman who was gentle and caring, who loved life and was full of life and was not afraid to embrace her inner child. Wendy knew that she was going to like this job.
The car came to a shuddering halt and Wendy felt caring hands lift her gently off the cushion and carry into a stuffy but friendly office. she could now detect another smile and not one she was fond of…

Paddy shimmered along the window ledge, his tail stood erect and his light ginger fur puffed out. He had spotted his next meal and with the smacking of his lips he soundlessly leaped down onto a work counter. Keep his eyes locked on the injured creature he slipped along the surface, with each paw print he drew nearer to his victim. He could now taste the tangy blood, which only made his mouth water even more. Fear filled the pungent air as he crouched down ready for the pounce.
Wendy squirmed under the soothing touch of the vet. She could sense the beast rather than see it and she didn’t think her poor heart could take much more today, she let out a squawk which startled the humans.
“Hey there wee guy,” said Martin the vet as he smoothed down her ruffled feathers, “what’s the matter?” hearing a slight hiss from behind him, he straightened his back. “Paddy shoo,” he shouted as he turned around and waved his hands at the cat as it scurried away.
“Well there Mrs Williams.”
“It’s Miss,” corrected Tara
“Oh, Miss” he said giving her a wide sexy grin and a wink, causing Tara to blush furiously at the handsome animal doctor. “It seems that this dove was attacked by some bird of prey, perhaps a hawk. It appears to be mainly a flesh wound but she wont be able to fly for a while. I could contact a special rescue centre for birds and get them to come over and take her.”
“Oh no” protested Tara holding up her hands, “I would like to take care of her myself”
“She is a wild bird, do you know much about them?”
“I am a quick study and they is my best friend the Internet. Trust me I am very much capable of this”
“Okay then if you insist, I am going to put in a couple of sutures in and I want you to bring her back next week for a check up. Mind you I could always pop in sometime and check her out myself, if you gave me your address,” he said with a flirty smile.
“That will be okay, I am sure I can back next week and if I have any problems I will give you a call”
He jumped over to his desk and emerged with a card, which he quickly wrote something on the back. Handing it over to Tara he said, “My home number and cell is on the back, don’t be scared to phone me anytime of the day or night.”
“I’ll keep that in mind” said Tara pocketing the card.
The handsome vet started his simple procedure while throwing sexy looks at the petite blond. Wendy shuddered under his cold touch, she could see his light and it was indigo in colour with silver flecks, not a match she thought to herself. She needed to find the right man with a rosy pink light clouding him. In a short time she was done and his feathers was washed. Tara cradled her back up into her arms and thanked the vet before paying him and heading home.
