Jack turned to face Sue and said “On Wednesday when we planted all the eggs for the children…. It made me think and I got this idea” he rubbed his damp hands down his jeans while thinking that sweaty palms were not ‘cool’ and never would be.
“So what are, we doing here?” Sue asked eying the garden appreciatingly; it resembled a cottage garden to that of the typically stereotyped country gardens of England.
“A game, a bit like the Easter egg hunt” Jack explained shrugging
“You’ve thought of this by yourself?” asked Sue surprised
“I was here earlier” said replied
“So, what are the rules?”
“It’s simple, you have to find chocolate letters and when you’ve got them all they will spell something”
“How do I know where to look?”
“There are hidden here” he told her and spread his arms wide and twirled round indicating the spread of the garden.
“You’re not going to help?”
“I hid them. Where’s the fun in finding them too, I know where they are”
“Okay” Sue finally conceded
It wasn’t long before Sue had gathered seven of the eight letters and placed them on the wooden table in the corner of the walled yard.
“Need a clue?” Jack asked as he caught her eye, watching as she became frustrated at not being able to locate the final one.
“No” Sue replied defiantly with her hands on her hips.
Jack dug his heels into the grass in an attempt to refrain from moving towards her.
“What?” she asked impatiently
“Nothing”
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I……well…..I wasn’t….aware that I was looking at you in any particular way” Jack stammered out
“You are and you know it” Sue responded as her cheeks flushed red from his intensive stare
Jack took two steps forward and Sue took one back, but he closed the distance within seconds.
“I was thinking…that I’ve been thinking too much and sometimes actions speak more than words,” Jack said
Which was very handy, as he was becoming tongue tied, like when he asked Rachel his first real girlfriend out. He’d been a bumbling idiot then and he hadn’t changed.
Sue looked at the man before her quizzically as a range of emotions flickered across his handsome features and wondered if he knew how much she wanted to kiss him right now.
Jack didn’t move, not even when her hand moved and drew a line down the side of his jaw. He stood mesmerized by the woman before him. Their lips were close, Jack swallowed and shut his eyes in anticipation, then suddenly he felt Sue brush her mouth lightly over his……
