Redemption

Tara glanced surreptitiously around the room as she eased open the desk drawer. Seeing no one, she inched it open a little further. Gingerly, she ran her hand through its contents. The seconds passed slowly; the ticking of the clock was almost audible. Frustrated, she pulled the drawer open a bit wider, eyes sparkling as they lit upon her quarry. Sneaking one more look around the room, she carefully extracted the small bag from the drawer. Placing her prize underneath a stack of papers on the desk, Tara began to ease the drawer shut when she was startled by a hand upon her shoulder.

“That’s called cheating...”

Tara looked up to see Sue standing over her, smiling pointedly at the twinkies Tara had concealed under the paperwork on her desk.

“Sorry Sue, it’s just that I really needed the sugar fix,” Tara said dejectedly.

“That’s why I brought you these.” She held up a box of chocolate Special K bars and a bag of baby carrots.

“Chocolate!” squealed Tara, her eyes lighting up. “You’re a lifesaver! Now I can snack and be healthy at the same time.” She grabbed the box and tore into it. “Do you think our plan will work?”

“Why not? Three healthy meals a day, exercising for an hour, five times a week. We’ll win.”

Tara smiled at the thought of Myles, Jack, and Bobby doing her 302s for the next six months. She grinned at Sue. “Well, there are three of them and only two of us.”

“Our physicals are in four weeks, we just have to hold out until then.”

Tara grinned. “To redeem myself from my little slip up, I’m going to get rid of all the stuff in my drawer,” she said, grasping the handle. Quickly, she began to sweep up her treats, depositing them into the empty lid of a file folder box. Closing the drawer with an exaggerated flourish, she beamed at Sue and reached over to dump her treasures into the trash.

“Wait!”

Tara looked up at Sue in surprise.

A mischievous smirk was forming on her face. Glancing around to make sure they were still alone, Sue moved closer to Tara. “I have an idea…”

The minutes passed by so slowly he thought that the clock might be running backwards. Finally, after what seemed like forever, D stood and shrugged into his coat.

“Have a great evening,” D said, nodding to him.

He returned the nod and focused his attention on the file in front of him. The seconds ticked by. Finally, when he was sure that everyone was gone, he eased open his bottom desk drawer and beamed at the prizes held within. Although he didn’t remember putting them there, he had been elated to find a stash of candy and Hostess goodies earlier in the day. This stupid diet was killing him; he still couldn’t believe that Sue and Tara thought they would win the bet.

Reaching down he claimed his reward, sighing in sheer bliss. Ripping open the plastic wrapping he took a bite, immediately transported into heaven. Taking another bite, he leaned back in his chair and savored his treat.

What harm could a little pair of twinkies possibly do? Bobby thought to himself.

Hehe, girl power! I see there's a little friendly competition going on. And I do believe Bobby that those "prizes" are courtesy of some of your co-workers, of the female vareity. Are they going to catch him on camera or something?
