Thanks for feedback here is today's post
“You get done what you needed to?” asked Jack to Myles
“Yes thank you my wardrobe won’t be ready for two weeks however”
“That’s pretty quick but this time of year work is kind of slow” said Jack “Come to the store I’ll introduce to a few people”
“Oh well I don’t know” said Myles
“Come on” said Jack patting the taller man on the shoulder “They don’t bite I promise”
The room seemed to be heaving with people and most of them were from the Hudson farm, Sue sat in a corner nursing the baby talking to a young dark haired woman, even Lucy was gazing about her with some interest at the wares on offer. Myles found himself at the counter and facing another dark haired woman whom he thought was attractive.
“Myles this is an old friend of mine Allie, she owns the store” said Jack and then went off to talk to a man who had just entered
“Pleased to meet you, you own the store?”
She smiled at him and said “I inherited from my parents, it’s a good business, I meant to find myself a good man, settle down have a family, but Jack went and fell in love with Sue instead”
“I heard you had a thing”
“When we were growing up I guess, but then Sue walked into his life and it was love at first sight and that as they say was that”
“I don’t know if I believe in love at first sight” said Myles stoically “In fact I don’t know if I believe in love at all, with possibily the recent exception of Jack and Sue”
“Yeah they have something special that everyone round these parts wish they have” she said wistfully, then changing the subject added “So can I be of assistance is there anything you would like to buy from my store today?”
“I don’t think so I made a trip to the tailor, and I am sure I’m good for everything else”
“Well anytime you’re popping by you know where I am”
“I recognise most people in your store as they live at the farm but who is that grey haired guy and then the dark haired girl with Sue and that other guy talking to Jack”
“Okay I’ll tell you who they are would that help?”
“Very much so” said Myles nodding
“The greying guy is the Sheriff, his name is Wes, the girl with Sue is called Lily her parents you would have met them are the tailor and his wife. And lastly the guy with Jack is another farmer there are a lot of farmers round and about here his name is Jonathan Hammond”
“Thank you that was enlightening, if someone like myself wanted to eat out once in a while where would that be?”
Allie laughed and said “You could try the saloon failing that the next town it’s just over a day’s ride so you’d want to stay over in their hotel unless you were going to take the train someplace. Sometimes Jack and Sue go there for a romantic getaway”
“Thank you” said Myles “You’ve been helpful”

Lucy felt the pretty print fabric run through her fingers and wished that she might have a new dress one day made out of material like this. The dress that Sue had given her was soft but worn. There were so many people in the store and Lucy wanted to hide but at the same time she wanted to explore, the goods on sale were fascinating, she never knew you could buy so much, trouble was she didn’t have any money to buy anything, but she made a decision as she stood in the store that one day she would and she’s come back buy the material for the dress, sew it herself if necessary and then walk proudly down the street in her finery.
Sue watched Lucy from her corner Lily had gone back home and she just enjoyed to watch those she loved window shopping, the kids came up asking if they could have this and the other, sometimes Sue said yes, if perhaps it was a yard of ribbon for the girls hair or some candy for the boys other times like when Isaac wanted a Noah’s ark sitting on the display shelf she had to say no. Lucy was taking an interest and not hiding away which was good she thought, she smiled when people spoke to her yet still did not reply, but Sue knew there was no hurry, she could take as long as she needed to, that was fine with her, her and Jack. Jack was standing at the counter deep in conversation with Wes, Sue could watch Jack forever, as if sensing she was watching him he turned and smiled, winking at her, signing with his hands that they would go soon.
Lucy didn’t miss the signs that Sue and Jack sometimes used, like a secret communication between the two of them but now and then the children used them too. She had gradually come to realise that each sign meant something, just for them. Howie, Wayne and Eleanor didn’t use them neither did Ruth. She wondered if she could communicate like that, it would be helpful for so many times she wanted to say something but words just escaped her, she wished she could talk but she didn’t dare take the risk, the risk of hurt. It was safer in this world of silence she had created and built around herself, and that was just the way it was.
