Okay, I just have to vent real quick. I had this post almost completely done and my stupid computer decided to update my MSN on me. I lost all of the post.
So, now, here it is, again. Let's see if I can make it through this time....
Sometimes I really hate computers.
Jack hurried into the Bullpen and glanced over at Lucy. "Any word from Bobby and Tara this morning?"
She nodded and picked up a slip of paper as she read, "Bobby says he's found something you're going to be interested in, he has news for everyone, and they'll be in later."
Jack frowned. "That's it?"
Lucy held her hand up in a shrug. "Yeah, that's all he said. He wouldn't expand on anything."
He nodded. "Thanks, Luce." He hung his jacket on its hook then looked over at D. "Any guess what his news might be?"
D shrugged. "No idea."
"Myles?"
Myles shook his head. "I haven't a clue, but I hope its pertaining to this case. I'm ready to finish it and get them both back here."
Jack nodded as he sat down at his desk. "Yeah, I'm not crazy about those two being there undercover any longer either. It's far too dangerous there."
"Danger, shmanger," Myles scoffed. "I'm tired of checking his voice mails and Tara's the only one who can get that infernal coffee maker to work right."
The team exchanged a chuckle as they returned to their work.
Sue noticed Jack kept looking up at the clock as time ticked by. She could tell he was anxiously waiting for Bobby and Tara to arrive. Finally, an hour later, Tara's perky voice carried across the Bullpen. "Hey, guys! Did you miss us?"
"Hey!" Jack responded cheerfully as the two missing agents entered the room. "It's about time you two decided to show up for work this morning."
Bobby smiled as he assisted Tara with her coat and hung it up for her. "Sorry, mate. Traffic was a little thicker than we're used to coming from that side of town. We'll try to leave a little earlier tomorrow. Won't we, love?" He winked at her and she blushed.
"Sure," she answered nervously, but when she seated herself and turned on her computer, she couldn't hide the glow on her face.
Sue looked over at Lucy, just to make sure she wasn't seeing things. Confirmation came when Lucy's jaw almost hit the floor. Sue smiled with the knowledge that she was not the only one who noticed the subtle exchange between their co-workers. Lunchtime was going to be very interesting today.
Myles stood up and leaned against his desk. "So, Koala Boy, what's your big news that you've been saving for us today?"
"Yeah," D interjected, tossing his nerf football in the air and catching it. "Give us an update."
Bobby took a deep breath and looked around the room. "Lucas Malvolti, AKA Luke, is a bigger threat than we imagined. In fact, I don't know how he's managed to stay off our watch list for so long."
D caught the ball in both hands and held it, frowning. "Why do you say that, Bobby?"
"Because of what I found this morning in the House."
Bobby went on to describe the intricate network of explosives he had found that morning in his exploration. Some had been connected to the outside door, some the windows, and a couple to the electrical lights and a barrel of fertilizer containing ammonium nitrate. There were even several "dummy" bombs set up to draw attention away from the hair triggers attached to some very real bombs. The team's faces grew grave as they realized how serious a player this guy could potentially be.
"A little hard core to be in it just for drugs," D commented.
Jack spoke up, "If he's working for Anton, we can probably assume he's trying to make a name for himself inside the mafia, too."
Bobby turned to Myles, "Which, by the way, brings us to you."
Myles straightened and his eyes widened. "Me? What did I do?"
"Anton has a special plan just for you as soon as Luke gets back into town. It seems you just happen to work for the branch of law enforcement that has been causing him the most irritation lately and you just happen to live in the same neighborhood he's working in at the moment."
At Myles' puzzled expression, the Aussie continued. "All the robberies on your street have been planned, but he's saving your house for last."
"Well, that's comforting to know," Myles commented.
Bobby shook his head. "It's not going to be robbed. He's going to deliver a special package to you... courtesy of our friend Luke."
Realization crept on Myles' face and he straightened.
Jack stepped forward. "Do you know when and how?"
Bobby shook his head. "Anton said Luke is supposed to be back early next week, but no one knows for sure."
"Today's Thursday," Tara mumbled, tapping her cheek with her fluffy pen.
D nodded, "That gives us a few days to get this figured out."
"Unless he decides to come back early," Bobby countered, "Which he is known to do more times than not."
Lucy asked, "Can we put Myles up in a hotel or something for his own safety?"
D shook his head. "We can't tip our hand."
Myles nodded. "I agree. If I disappear, Anton will know that we know. Then he'll probably be able to track the leak to Bobby and his life will be at risk, and possibly Tippy Toes as well."
Tara glanced up at him and smiled gratefully. "Thanks, Myles."
"Don't mention it," Myles replied. "By the way, Tara, can you tell if there's any coffee made from where you are? I need a refill."
Jack, Sue, D, and Lucy all shot dirty looks over at Myles while Tara stood to look inside the coffee pot. "Nope. All empty. It'll be just a sec while I start a fresh pot. But then I need to head to Transportation."
The rest of the team except Bobby frowned in confusion at Tara's back. Lucy was the first to speak. "Why do you need to go to Transportation?"
"Oh, I need a new car," Tara replied.
"Why do you need a new car?" Jack asked. "You just got that one a month ago."
"Uh, yeah, well, you see...."
Bobby interrupted, "It seems our little Miss Tara met the troublemaker I cautioned her about yesterday evening, and stirred up some mischief. When Karen realized I was not interested in her, but I was there with Tara instead, she stormed outside and left."
Tara smiled sheepishly. "We thought she just left and went somewhere else for the night, but...."
"Apparently, Karen is a little more vindictive than that and couldn't leave well enough alone," Bobby finished.
D put his hands over his face. "Oh, no."
"Uh-huh," Tara confirmed. "The whole car, keyed. It's going to need a whole new paint job."
Jack shook his head and looked down at his desk. "Randy's going to have a fit about this one."
"Especially when he sees what she wrote on the hood," Tara added.
Sue asked, "What did she write on the hood?"
Tara blushed and looked away. "Let's just say I haven't been called that since my college roommate thought I stole her boyfriend. No wait, that was a witch." She looked up at Sue with wide eyes. "I've never been called that before today."
Sue pressed her lips together, feeling pity for her friend. She crossed the room and put a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sure it's nothing personal, Tara. She was probably just angry....."
Tara shook her head. "Oh, I'm sure it's personal."
Sue furrowed her brow. "Why do you say that?"
Tara glanced over at Bobby. "Do you want to tell them or should I?"
Jack's head shot up. "Tell us what?"
Bobby glanced nervously around the room, then down at the floor. "That's my other news."
"There's more?" Myles asked in disbelief.
Bobby nodded once.
"Well? What is it, Crash?" Jack asked.
Bobby sighed, then looked up at Tara for strength. She smiled encouragingly and he smiled back. After taking another deep breath, he blurted, "After this case is through, I'm going to be requesting a transfer."
