Sorry for the no-post yesterday ... but life took over. This is a crazy week. My kids are in final exams and my daughter is graduating.
+++++
The nightlight by the bed provided a dim illumination in the room. Jack was standing by the window, the towel having been replaced by a pair of boxer shorts. He was staring outside, seemingly deep in thoughts.
City of Light seemed like an appropriate name, Sue reflected, as she quietly approached him. Sensing her presence he turned sideways, a smile appearing on his lips. He extended his hand. Timidly, she took it. In a gentle motion he pulled her to him, wrapping an arm around her waist.
“You took your time”, he observed, his eyes as dark as a stormy night. The city lights played on her face. He cupped her head with his free hand, his thumb sensually stroking her skin while his fingers entangled themselves in her silky blond hair.
What was she supposed to tell him? That it took her forever to remember how to breath after he left the washroom, or that her legs were too shaky to step out of the tub, or that when she saw he dug more than her nightie out of her bag she brushed profusely at the choice he made ... though in retrospective she was at least partially responsible for the latter.
“Was the wait worth it?” she softly replied, the words that naturally came to her lips stunning him as much as herself.
“Very”, breathing in the sweet lavender scent that lingered on her skin.
He nuzzled her neck, eliciting a small moan. Her hands move over his bare chest, her nails leaving scorched marks along his well taut muscles. He captured her lips. She responded with the same eagerness. Her fingers continued their trek up to settle at the back of his head, running into his short brown hair. He leisurely explored her back, resisting the urge to venture under the pink nightie.
When he pulled away, he met her hazy eyes and flushed expression. She had been thoroughly kissed he noted with extreme satisfaction, though he would make sure later on that he hadn’t been mistaken. ‘I love you’, relaying on his hands to communicate. Her radiant smile told him she understood. ‘Come.’ He took her hand, leading her to the bed.
She gasped when she saw the bottle and two glasses on the pillow.
“Champagne?” eyeing him in confusion. “You ordered champagne?”
“No, my love ... you did”, cuddling to her.
“I ... didn’t”, she countered in a small voice. He couldn’t help but grin at her shocked expression.
“You’re the one who booked us in the honeymoon suite”, he reminded her with twinkles in his eyes.
“Honeymoon suite?” she murmured, certain she read him wrong. “You mean ... this is ...” He nodded, quite amused by her redden face. “Jack, I ...” He waited expectantly, his fingers caressing the length of her arm. “I don’t think I’ll have any champagne”, not willing to add alcohol to the very hot and potentially explosive situation.
“Good”, agreeing with her. “I was thirsty but not for the bubbly stuff”, taking the glasses and bottle and putting them on the table.
“And what were you thirs ...” the words dying in her throat as she caught his meaning.
“You”, his voice husky to his own ear. She surrendered to his arms, parting her lips for him. They tumbled on the bed, the softness of the mattress against her back a sharp contrast to the firm body perfectly moulding her curves as he continued the sublime assault on her senses. She groaned when he propped himself on his elbows, unwilling to relinquish the warmth of his chest as she tried to keep him close to her. He quietly laughed, sending small tremors through both their bodies, as his mouth descended to trail kisses along the curvy side of her neck down her throat.
“Jack”, she murmured, the name lost in her soft sigh as she restlessly moved under him, innocently fuelling the fire consuming both of them. He skilfully attacked each little button, tenderly nibbling on her skin, sending her nerve-endings on fire, as he uncovered more and more tender flesh.
At some unconscious level, he knew he was stepping on the line, but neither seemed inclined to stop just yet. Having reached the last button, the pink nightie teased him, concealing the full softness of her curves from his tender touch. The ripping of the fabric mixed with the ringing of his phone pierced through his passion-induced mind.
He lifted his head to meet her hazy gaze. The desire and the trust he saw reflected in her eyes took his breath away.
“Jack?” unsure what or if she did something wrong, until she realised where her hand wandered. He felt her hand trailing gently from underneath the elastic band of his boxers up to his back. He grinned at her totally flustered state.
“You, my love, has as much trouble behaving as I do”, he observed with great pleasure, his eyes riveted on hers. “Promise me not to move from here”, pulling the sheet up to cover her as he extricated himself from her loving arms.
“Where ... where ...” she mumbled bemused.
“My phone is ringing. I think it’s been ringing for a while”, the sound coming loud and clear once more after a short pause. “I’ll be right back”, tenderly kissing her before heading towards where the unwelcoming noise was coming from.

He found his cell in the pocket of his pants on the floor of the washroom.
“Hudson”, he answered somewhat normally.
“Where were you, mate? I’ve been trying to reach you for the last twenty minutes. I was going to send a search par...”
“You’re interrupting my beauty sleep, Crash”, cutting Bobby’s rambling. “What did you find?”
“Sorry, mate. I know it’s late in your corner of the world, but Myles and I had to wait for the teenage son to get back from the gym with his best friend, which ended up a bonus ...”
“Have you been spending time with Howie?”
“Howie? Are you out of your mind?” not catching the allusion.
“Never mind”, he sighed. “Try to make it succinct, please.”
“You’re grumpy, mate. You should really go back to bed”, Bobby pointed out, unaware of the huge smile that spread on Jack’s face as he couldn’t agree more with his best friend.
While pacing the room, Jack listened to Bobby’s story, punctuated throughout by Myles’ comments about teenagers’ mindlessness.
“Since we’re here, might as well wait”, Jack concurred. “I will call you back from the train station. Thanks.” He stared at his phone, very tempted to turn it off. But the case took precedence over his personal life. And as much as he hated the interruption he couldn’t help but think that maybe it had been for the best.
“Are you going to share, Jack?” gazing at him with professional interest. When he lifted his head to look at her, she could see desire and passion shimmering just below the surface.
“What would you like to share?” he asked mischievously as he lay down beside her.
“You could start with the phone call, Jack”, their earlier embrace still permeating her senses.
“Then you’ll have to come here.” He delicately pulled her over his chest. “Can you read me?” She nodded, feeling very dangerously comfortable as she rested her chin over her folded arms. “See, like this, I can give your back my entire attention”, he explained as his hands gently caressed her.
“What did Bobby say?” hoping to keep him on track.
“You are ruining the mood, my love”, he observed amusingly. “But if you insist”, conceding her a small victory. “Sophia made the call to her mother’s cell. She thought she was talking to her brother, Brad, but instead his best friend, Parker, answered for him.” So far she followed. “Parker recalls Sophia saying she was spending a few days in Paris and relayed the message to Brad. Except there seemed to have been a slight confusion, as where Brad thought Parker spoke to Delphi, not Sophia, and was simply making conversation about the trip his older sister was taking.”
“So Brad never told his mom?” Jack nodded at her assessment. “But why didn’t Sophia call her mother directly?” the mystery still lingering in her mind. “And why hasn’t she phoned ever since?”
“I hope we’ll be able to ask her in person when we go wait for her at the train station tomorrow afternoon”, he said optimistically. “Bobby said Tara contacted them while they were at the Jamieson’s house. There had been a purchase made tonight with Sophia credit card.” Sue arched her brow. “Gift shop at the Louvre. According to her mother, it was one of the places Sophia really wanted to visit”, smiling at Sue.
“Has it all been a huge case of miscommunication?”
“It appears so. We’ll know for sure tomorrow. In the meantime, you and I have some talking ... and some sharing to do”, his hands growing bolder and his eyes darker. She could feel his heartbeat accelerating under her hand, and the pounding of her own heart inside her chest.
“What would you like to talk about?” she quietly inquired, wondering if her voice was as raspy as she imagined it was.
“I would like to talk about all the things I would like to share with you”, having finally reached his goal ... one inch at a time.

Mind you, not that I think any of us minded one bit! Hey, I'll take miscommunications like that anytime if it means getting our lovely couple together! Can't wait to see what you still have in store for us. You know....one of my favorite churches in Paris was Saint Chappelle. Wonder if they have a priest around? Saint Sulpice and Notre Dame weren't bad either, if that one is booked or the priest is sick! Just to let you know!

After ripping many inches at the seam, his hands were freely roaming under her nightie, sending shivers up and down her spine. He was making it very hard for her to concentrate and by the smirk on his face he knew it.
“I’m ... listening”, she managed to articulate somewhat intelligibly.
“Are you sure?” he teased.
She was absolutely sure she wouldn’t hear of word, and barely read one, but she wouldn’t let him win so easily. “Unless you want to sleep on the couch I would start talking, Jackson”, she warned quite unsuccessfully if his huge grin was any indication.
“What about I start sharing my love for you instead?” having no intention of spending the night without her. He liked the shade of red that immediately rose to her cheeks. “See, my love, I was thinking”, gently lifting her up so her body was aligned with his and her face only inches away.
“Thinking?” she murmured, very much aware of the intimacy they were sharing at this moments.
“About sharing my days ... and my nights with you ...” accentuating each intention with a soft kiss, “sharing the present ... and the future ... from now on ... till eternity”, he declared sincerely, his eyes mirroring the deep love he felt in his heart for her. “Would you share the rest of my life ... and become my wife?”
He could pinpoint the exact moment the words registered in her mind, as her body jolted in his arms and her eyes widened in utter astonishment. No quite the reaction he expected, but she looked so adorable that he burst out laughing.
“Jack, this is not funny”, beginning to doubt she read what she thought she read.
“It won’t be funny if you say NO, but I like to believe you will agree to legalise our somewhat ... heated situation”, grinning at her flustered expression. “So? Is it a yes? Are you going to let me make a respectable woman out of you?”
“JACK!” burying her burning face in the crook of his shoulder. “You’re terrible”, she sighed, shyly lifting her head and meeting his tender loving gaze.
“Terribly in love with you”, he agreed. “So? ... I’m still waiting for the right answer.”
“Yes”, she whispered, her radiant smile enveloping them both.
“Wise choice, my love”, reaching for a lingering kiss but pulling away before the fire engulfed them. “Now, you keep your wandering hands where I can see them”, he warned mischievously.
“MY wandering hands?” she exclaimed in disbelief, as HIS fingers were scorching her bare skin.
“I know it’s my fault”, he conceded apologetically. “I’m the one who let you set the pace of our relationship. Except, at the rate you’re going I see no other option than to get married as soon as possible”, he informed her with twinkles in his eyes.
“The rate I’M GOING? ... How about ...” He placed a finger on her lips to silence her.
“Of course if you insist we can skip directly to the honeymoon and worry about the trip to the altar later”, he quipped, delighted by the nice shade of red he elicited once more. “Sue?” She instantly sensed the change in his demeanour, as he grew more solemn. “I would very much love for us to get married in Paris ... and to spend our honeymoon here ... once we solved the case ... but I understand if you want to wait until we return to DC”, he quickly added, not wanting to pressure her into something she might regret. “I know how important you consider our families and friends.”
“But they are not the ones I will be marrying”, she observed wisely. She knew he mentioned a valid point, and as where she would love to have them around her on her big day, she would forever regret not marrying him on the spur of the moment in this enchanted city. “Paris would be very romantic”, sighing dreamily as she agreed to his proposal. “It would beat my wildest wedding fantasies”, she confessed coyly.
“And would you share with your future husband your wildest fantasies?” he teased once more, surprised when she held his gaze.
“I cannot”, she pouted. “You told me to keep my hands to myself. Good night, Jack”, comfortably cradling her head against his shoulder and closing her eyes. She could feel his laughter rocking his body. “I love you”, she whispered, and he signed it back in her hand that was resting over his heart.

Ahhhh... Everyone knows weddings are for the families and friends anyway. All that matters is the piece of paper known as the marriage license and the vows that are exchanged between the couple. They can get married in Paris, then have a ceremony or reception or something when they get back home.

He opened his eyes to her sleeping beauty. He couldn’t recall the last time he slept so peacefully two nights in a row. She didn’t shift much during the night, still resting largely over him, except one of them must have kicked the sheets off. They lay uncovered, giving him an unobstructed view of the damage he inflicted on her pink nightie.
“I sure hope it wasn’t your favourite, my love”, he said, having no desire to spend time in the doghouse. If he were lucky she wouldn’t notice, grinning at the improbability. He could always sweet talk his way out of trouble. “What can I say”, he murmured into her hair. “You’re irresistible.” It sounded sincere to his own ear. She was bound to forgive him. His hand trailed along her spine, unwilling to relinquish touching her.
“Sleep”, she mumbled, shivering under his tender care.
He looked at the clock. He could grant her a few more hours as long as it kept her in his arms. Later on, if she agreed, they would play tourists and visit some of the landmarks ... unless he received an update warranting another trip in the countryside. Which reminded him he should keep inspector Benoit informed. His phone was within reach on the table. Careful as not to disturb her, he picked it up.
To Jack’s relief, the inspector laughed at the teenagers’ actions.
“I can see my son do de same ting”, he told Jack. “Opefully mademoiselle Sophia will be on dat train. Anyting else I can do for you at de moment?”
“Actually ... there is something”, Jack mentioned awkwardly.
“What is it, Udson?” the inspector insisted, obviously in a good mood.
“A personal favour”, and he went on explaining his plan to a very receptive Frenchman.

They were standing at the top of the Arc de Triomphe overlooking the city. He held her close to him, his arm around her waist. She was wearing the white blouse and yellow skirt he pulled from her bag and placed on the bed while she was having a shower. It would be appropriate for tonight ... should everything fall into place like he sincerely hoped it would.
“Jack!” pointing at another discovery she made. She was looking in awe at the wonders they were seeing. In the distance, under a cloudless blue sky, stood La Tour Eiffel. Tall and proud, Jack reflected, which was exactly how he felt by the side of his beloved.
“Are you ready to come down?” lifting her chin to him, unable to resist a tender kiss.
“One more minute ... please?” fluttering her eyelashes at him.
“Didn’t I hear that fifteen minutes ago?” laughing at her antics.
“I didn’t”, shrugging mischievously. He moved behind her, completely wrapping her in his arms, his hands coming to rest over her stomach. Ignoring the tourists around them, he trailed butterfly kisses along her neck.
“Are you trying to get me to leave?” a hint of amusement creeping in her raspy voice.
‘Am I successful?’ he signed in front of her eyes. ‘Or do I need to rip your blouse?’
“Jack!” swirling to face him, a blush already spreading to her cheeks.
“We need to go shopping if you want a new nightie for tonight”, he pointed out innocently.
He must have dozed off after his morning call to the inspector, because when he woke up she was gone. He could hear the water running, so he stretched in bed, contemplating joining her, wondering how she would react. His hand came in contact with the tattered pink nightie on her pillow, and the note she pinned on it. Nice handiwork, Sparky. How about some shopping today? Love, Sue. It had brought a huge grin to his lips. He would take her shopping, but not necessarily for what she had in mind.
“And if you promise not to wear it, I promise not to rip it”, he continued, his unconcealed passion shimmering in his eyes.
“Jack!” She buried her head in his shoulder when she saw a few faces turn her way. He cupped her head and leaned for a lingering kiss, oblivious to the knowing grin people were casting in their direction. This was the city of love, the place where lovers came to fulfil their desire, and where he intended to join their destiny ... and fulfil her fantasies.
She was glowing when he released her. To her surprise he dropped on one knee, keeping her left hand into his. She wasn’t aware of the whispers around her as people stared openly at them.
“Sue, last night when I asked you to marry me”, his deep brown eyes gazing in adoration at her, “I didn’t have a ring”, pulling a little red box from his pocket.
After he saw the note on the nightie, he left one of his own and quickly got dressed. Tonight he would make sure they thoroughly enjoy all the amenities in the room ... together. The employee at the front desk gave him all the right answer to his questions. The jewellery store the employee recommended was at the corner of the street, and opened just as Jack reached the front door. He was the only client and the clerk, though he knew very little English, was more than helpful. Jack made an educated guess as of her size, after comparing her finger to his while she slept. He hoped it would fit since he had the matching wedding bands in another little box in his pocket.
She gaped in wonder as her eyes set sight on a beautifully crafted golden ring with two tiny diamonds shining under the light. “So I’m asking again”, once she refocused her attention on him. “Would you marry me as soon as this case is over?”
“Yes, Jack. I would ... I will”, her voice breaking under the emotions as he slid the ring on her finger.
“I love you”, taking her in his arms after he stood back up.
“I love you too”, surrendering to his kiss ... under the applause of the crowd.
