Yep, I agree with you Em and JF718. If I saw a mouse scurrying across the floor then you couldn't peel me off the ceiling with a . . . a . . . well, I don't with what. Needless to say that's where I'll be until said mouse is gone.

Still an enjoyable read, Ails. While little furry rodents aren't my favorite of the animal world, I'm still able to enjoy Mattie and Maude from the safety of my keyboard and monitor. Thanks!!

sorry, i am living in the hospital between work and visiting my dad, who is doing okay now. Days have disappeared....



Mattie screamed in union as she scurried under the couch. Holding her little paws over her large ears she tried to block out the piercing sound. Maud shook her head and dared to peek under the valance of the couch. Giggling she saw the feet of Sue hoping from left to right onto top of the table.

“Levi, get those mice!” yelled Sue pointing at the couch. Levi lazily flopped down to watch the fun with a sly grin on his doggy face.

“Oh the poor child” said Tammy from the safety of the kitchen floor where she now hid with Larry.

“Daft woman! I say,” said Larry rolling his large dark eyes. “I mean look at the difference in size”

“Larry, sometimes the things that scares us the most are the smallest things.”

“Why?” he asked his voice laced with curiosity.

“Because it them that we find the hardest to relate to. This is especially due with humans. Us creatures we can talk to one another and because of that we are much more rational, this excludes elephants and mice I have to say. But humans they just don’t understand us. We get them, but they just don’t get us and that often makes them fear us more than they should.”

“But still…”

“Irrationality is something that cannot be explained but accepted…..Hark do you hear that?”

Larry listened intently and yes he could too hear the pounding of feet on the stairwell.

“Sounds like it is coming towards us”

“Larry I think you are right!” said Tammy guiding Larry back with a spread of her wing.

They jumped as the door to the apartment flew open in one smooth motion and crashed against the wall and Sue further screamed as she felt racking vibrations rip thru her body.

Ails, I'm sorry to hear about your dad!! I'm glad he is doing better!! I'm also glad to know you are okay - we've missed you!!!

Is this Jack to the rescue???

Whoever it was that just came through the apartment door, did so in a flurry.
I am hoping that it is Sir Jack to the rescue.

BTW. Of all the silly things to think about, it occurs to me that Jack probably has a key to the apartment. I remember in the episode of Simon Says how great it was to see Jack suddenly standing there. Jack either picked the lock, and Bobby is better at that, forced the door, which Simon may have heard unless the screaming and barking kept him from hearing, or he has a key. See, I told you it was silly.

Welcome back Ails! I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Tell him we wish him a good recovery.

Sue, maybe you should now call Jack to come... I mean he could even spend the night if you're afraid of meeting the mice again

Jack rushed into the living room, gun drawn in his shoot to kill stance. His eyes quickly scanned the entire room and finally resting on the exposed leg of Sue. A saucily smile slipped onto his face.

“Jack!” Sue proclaimed in shock.

Breaking his gaze from the sculptured calf he raised his eyes.

“Are you okay I heard you scream?”

Sue blushed bright red, “I saw two mice” she admitted her fear.

“MICE!” shrieked Jack as he jumped back his gun falling to his side.

Looking on in shock Sue placed her hands on her hips. “Scared?”

“No, not all, just had a bad experience with one when I was younger.” He said stuttering somewhat.

“Really?”

“Long story!” he answered running his fingers thru his hair and moving towards her. He could now see more of her creamy leg and maybe an edge of the curve of her bosom. He swallowed deeply. She looked so beautiful to him, perfection personified.

“Jack!” Sue said pulling her robe tighter around her.

“Ummm yeah!”

“Could you please help?”

“Anytime” he said grinning and winking at her. He watched as the fetching red rose up her face.

“Well, could you please get rid of it, them” she said motioning with her hands. “They went under the couch”

Grinning madly he took several more steps so that he was directly in front of her now. He could feel his heart hammering in his chest. The smell of wildflowers nearly made him swoon.

“First thing first let get you sorted,” he said and with one swift motion he had toppled Sue into his arms and heard her shriek in surprise. Having her face so close to him in such a state of undress nearly was his final undoing. He manoeuvred the room and headed into Sue’s room where he softly deposited Sue onto her bed.

“Why don’t you get dressed!” he said backing out of the door using all his self-control as he went. As the door closed Sue collapsed back and allowed herself to broadly smile.

Exhaling loudly he walked over to the other chair in the room running his hands thru his hair as eh went. He needed to sit down before he tried to do anything that involved using his mind, as right now it was mush.

Mattie and Maud together pushed the Letter over to Levi who was still sniggering away behind the couch. Winking at them Levi picked the letter up in his mouth and rose to his feet.

“Hey Buddy, what’s that you got there?” asked Jack as Levi plopped down in front of him. His tail brushed the floor as he dropped the smart envelope onto his lap. Jack turned the envelope over and his eyes went wide as he saw the familiar pen of his name. Looking over at the closed door where his dreams lay he chewed his lower lip. Finally h decided to slip his nail under the seal and peel it open. Feeling the unspoken nerves rustle in the pit of his stomach he withdrew the rough fabric paper from it’s hiding place. With such love he opened it wide and began to read.


‘Jack,

I do not know how to tell you this; you make me speechless. So here goes the truth and the truth is I am in love with you. I can now look back and see that I have felt like this since the first day I meet you when I stormed into the office. I remember coming face to face with you and feeling like the air had been sucked out of my lungs. It felt like I was standing in front of someone important and you are that someone important to me. With each new day I fall more and more in love with you. I never knew I could love a man as much as I Love you. When I am with you, the bad times don’t seem so bad and the good times are simply amazing. You give me so much strength and courage to be just me. I have never met such a caring, generous man. When I am with you I feel complete, you make me complete. Each day I thank the Lord for giving me a job I love, friends I love and for you, the man I love.

I crave a future with you. Too grow old along side you. The reason I haven’t told you just how I feel is that I am scared. These feelings are just so great, greater than I could ever imagined and they take my breath away. I had read people calling me brave and strong in the past but when it comes to you and my feelings for you, I am a coward. My greatest fear is that you only see me as a friend and nothing more. I know I am not worthy of your love and don’t deserve you but you have the right to know just what my heart feels. That is one of the reasons why I decided to take the job in New York, A fresh start and all. I am going to miss you so much, that I can’t even imagine the pain I will feel, if it is anything like what I am feeling as I write this then I know I am going to be in trouble.

I am sorry if I make you feel like I am deserting you but please believe me when I say this was the hardest decision of my life. I must go. I must leave.

As he read he felt the tears well up behind his eyelids as the words he been longing to hear jumped off the page before him. his love filled eyes sought the door as it gently opened.

Oh thank goodness she specified New York or it could have been angst city all over again!!! This is fabulous, Ails, those animals have worked a miracle that even Lucy couldn't manage. Jack knows Jack knows but Sue doesn't know that Jack knows and she's coming through the door....

Her damp hair clung to her skin that glowed with such a passionate light that caught Jack’s breath in his throat. This shimmering glow shrouded Sue as she walked into the room. Running her nimble fingers thru her damp hair she smiled over at the love of her life. Catching his eye she saw there had flowed from dark brown to dusky chocolate and had a strong hint of smoke in them. She couldn’t quite place what she saw reflected in them but it was stirring something deep within her right down to her bones.

The letter floated to the floor as he stepped forward, his eyes set firmly on the goal ahead of him. He watched as Sue swallowed, she never looked so sexy before. He needed to touch her, to feel her, to be with her. He had been restrained in the past, no longer would he be tied to that moral.

Reaching her he stood in front of her and watched as confusion played in her eyes. His eyes were torn down the worried lip and the longing to ease its discomfort was too great. His breath tickled her burning skin as he moved closer. She was rooted to the spot wishing that this were not a dream. His scent intoxicated her as he hovered over her dry lips. She moistened them and that was all that he could take. His lips swooped in and finally they connected in a way that was beyond either of their wildest dreams. The connection went beyond physical and went into the soul. Jack hands pulled her shoulders gently forward and held her still against his raging chest. With abandonment that she had never felt before her hands snaked behind his head and tugged playfully with his hair as he applied further pressure to her burning lips. A moan escaped from her parted lips thus allowing Jack to delve in to taste her riches more and more. Not finding Sue’s lips enough Jack’s own lips grazed her jaw line exerting a shiver from her body as her eyes closed in exhilaration and found her earlobe where between his teeth and tongue he teased her. Then he moved on to her slender neck where he planted butterfly kisses in a random pattern, slowly he moved back up to her mouth when his name escaped her parched throat and claimed her lips once again. His hands found her soft hair and he allowed his fingers to become knotted in it. He could feel the ragged breathing of Sue against his own chest. He found himself lost in ecstasy, one no drug could ever mimic.

Reluctantly the kiss ended with breathless pants and shy glances. Jack could see the nerves ping into life all over Sue. His hands rolled down her arms and clasped her hands. Soothingly he strokes her scorched skin. He patiently waited until her eyes had travelled from their hands to his lips. He watched as a delicate blush covered her face as memories of that kiss hung there. As soon as he knew she was concentrating on him he spoke with such passion that tears welled up inside him.

“I love you Sue. I am so much in love with you. I love you for the amazing, gracious person you are. Sue I love you and I plan to keep telling you that.”

Sue looked up to look deep into his eyes and there she saw the truth. He was truly in love with her. Finding it had to speak thru the lump in her throat and the tears she managed to whisper out, “I love you too.”
