Chapter 6

Waking early Jack headed for the shower, eager to be up and dressed before Sue woke, planning on preparing her some breakfast.

Looking at the clock Sue was absolutely whacked having had very little sleep despite being exhausted by her tears. She had no recollection of getting to bed and assumed Jack must have carried her here since she was still fully dressed.

Rolling out of bed she headed for the bathroom, noticing her door was still closed.
Grinning she remembered that Jack was not a morning person; if she was quick she could shower and have breakfast organised before he woke. It was the least she could do when he had been so caring and supportive.

Opening he bathroom door she caught a glimpse of Jack’s butt as he bent to put his boxers on, ‘Jack??????????????’

Startled from his daydreaming he began to turn around.

‘Jack………… no ………..!!!!!!!!!!!! Whatever you do, don’t turn around…….’

For some reason which she would never understand she was rooted to the spot, she knew she should turn around and walk out but her thought processes were shot, her feet stuck to the floor.

‘Sue……… I am so sorry…………I thought I could shower and prepare breakfast while you slept…….’ By now Jack had his boxers and his pants on and was blushing furiously. ‘I didn’t think to lock the door……….. I am so sorry……..’ He was bumbling badly now, his only redeeming thought that he was facing the wall when she walked in not the door.

Recovering her senses Sue exited the bathroom and fled to her room, her face a vivid shade of red as she thought about what had happened.

As she relaxed a little she reflected on the fact that Jack really did have a nice butt……… a very nice butt and a very sexy chest…………...

Seeing the door open after a few minutes she was relieved to see Jack enter fully dressed, still pink in the face.

‘Sue…….. I really am very sorry……. I’m so used to being on my own …….I didn’t think about you walking in………all I wanted to do was have breakfast ready for when you woke……… and all I’ve done is make your sadness a hundred times worse……. I really am sorry……..’

‘Jack……… it’s Ok……….. I wanted to get up early and make you breakfast……. to say ‘thank you’ for being there for me……….. I didn’t think you’d be up this early…………. I have to say though………. the view was very nice………. cute………….’ She grinned at him, her eyelashes fluttering.

‘Cute huh? So we forget it happened………? Put it behind us so to speak………’

‘Something like that yeah’ she nodded, she certainly wouldn’t forget it had happened, plenty of teasing material now………. And it had made her smile which she didn’t think she would ever do.


‘Go have a shower Sue…….. I’ll start breakfast……………..’

Sue nodded her thanks and offered up a prayer that the kitchen wouldn’t be totally trashed by the time he’d finished in there.

Ambling in a while later, having spent a good deal of time thinking about Jack with little or no clothing, she was impressed with his efforts……. and he’d cleaned up as he went which was something her dad and brothers never did.

‘Hey Hudson…….. thought you said ‘cook never cleaned’……… and this looks and smells wonderful, thank you………’

‘NO PROBLEM’ he signed, grinning at her, ‘I’m just used to doing it all ……’

Watching her pick at her food Jack commented quietly, ‘if it’s awful; just leave it……. I’ll buy bagels on the way in……..’

‘It’s not, it’s great…….. it’s ………….’ tears began to trickle down her face again.

‘I know sweetheart…….. it’s because Levi’s not here……….. it’s OK, we will find him………..’

Moving his chair he sat beside her and hugged her, hoping he’d looked more sure of finding Levi than he actually was.

Heading in to the pen later they hoped there were some leads……… there weren’t.


Sighing in exasperation Jack sat beside Sue as they read through the Senators’ file.

‘I really think Howie is right…….. it has to be connected to this case……… since it came in we’ve interviewed 20 women he’s been involved with plus we still have another 15 to see……and we haven’t even begun to investigate his staff….. I reckon someone thinks we are close to finding the truth…………..’

‘So what do we do……….? We can’t walk in and accuse the Senator of dog napping Levi………………’

‘No……… we can’t……….. I need to come up with something…….. something which will bring Levi back and nail the Senator……. and I plan on doing both……….., no-one messes with a member of my team and gets away with it……’

His jaw was set and Sue smiled at the steely determination she recognised in his eyes, the same determination that had him find her when she was kidnapped or missing……… the determination that helped him to struggle on with a case when he was in such pain from his heart…………., that had helped him find the truth when first her job was on the line and later Bobby’s.

‘Don’t do anything stupid Jack………..I would miss Levi if anything happened……… but I don’t want anything to happen to you either………’

‘Hey……….. nothing is gonna happen to me……….. or Levi………’

He squeezed her hand and gazed into her eyes and for a few seconds the world around them ceased to exist.

Hearing Bobby’s voice he snapped back to reality, spelling B-O-B-B-Y and pointing towards him as he finished.

‘What’s up, Crash?’

‘Phone call from Howie………. He’s made contact with someone who knows staff at the Senators’ office………… last week they were stressing about the investigation………. yesterday everything changed…………. Howie doesn’t think the Senator is directly involved in the dog napping…….. doesn’t think he’s that stupid ……….. but ………….’

‘But it has to be someone with high access to the Senator who would know about his dirty little secret………’ Jack chipped in.

‘If it is the Senators’ dirty little secret………. it could be a member of his staff….at this stage we have no idea……….’ Bobby pointed out.

‘I know……….. any ideas, Crash?’ Jack asked hopefully………… with so many staff it would be impossible to follow all of them.

‘Engaging brain for out of the box thinking right now………’ he grinned at them, wondering if they were aware they were still holding hands.

Checking his watch Jack suggested going out for lunch together.

Oblivious to the stares of the team, Jack wrapped his arm around Sue’s shoulder, trying to convince himself it was to give her a bit of moral support but equally aware that he enjoyed having some form of physical contact with her, if only it could be under better circumstances.

Squeezing her shoulder he smiled as she looked up at him and whispered ‘thank you’ before the tears began to fall again.

‘YOU ME LUNCH QUIET?’ he signed, watching her nod.

‘Guys, Sue and I are going somewhere quiet for lunch………. we’ll see you back at the pen’ he explained as Sue kept her head down.

Returning to the pen a couple of hours later Jack was beginning to formulate a plan, wishing he could do something right now.

‘Anything new?’ he asked as they walked through the door.

Everyone shook their head other than Bobby who approached him as he ambled to his desk.

‘Howie rang, says it’s definitely related to the Senator……………’

‘Does he know who?’ Jack asked, leaning back in his seat and lacing his hands behind his head.

Bobby shook his head, ‘no……. but it isn’t the Senator…………’

‘So…………. what are we thinking?’

‘Someone high up but as yet we have no idea who or how they are obtaining the information or who they are passing it to………….’

Bobby glanced over at Sue who was trying hard to concentrate on something on her computer while fighting to stop the tears trickling down her face.

‘How’s she doing?’

Jack shrugged, ‘keeping most of it in, occasional tears, quiet…….. hasn’t eaten much……. I don’t think she slept much last night……… and I have no idea how to best help her………… ‘

‘Jack………. you’re there for her………… and that’s all you can do……… be ready to listen, hold her………… work on finding him……….. I can’t think of anyone she would rather have with her than you…………..’

‘And what if we don’t find him………….. ? What do I do then………. nothing I do will make her life any better…………..’

‘We will find him because he is a member of our team……….. and we are the best team in the best law enforcement agency in the world……………..’

The rest of the day was spent reading and re-reading the interviews Jack and Sue had had with the Senators’ ladies which gave them no clues as to who was selling secrets or who had Levi.

Watching Sue rub her hand repeatedly over her eyes, Jack pulled rank and took her home.

‘Call us if anything comes up’ he shouted as he took her hand in his and led her out the door.

‘Jack, there’s so much to do……….. you stay …….. I promise I will sit at home and do nothing……………’ she protested.

Oops, with the bathroom incident!

Well, Sue forgot about Levi for a while there, didn't she. We now know that you can write an embarrased Jack and Sue.

I wonder if Jack will stay to work on the case or go with Sue.

You dognapped Levi?! Very sneaky way of getting Jack and Sue together, I must say. And I kind of like the way Levi wakes Sue up in the morning -- Jack should try it sometime.

Chapter 7

‘I am coming home with you……….. I don’t think you got much sleep last night and you’re tired……….. you won’t do yourself any good if you collapse…………. the guys are on it and to be honest if we read those interviews once more I think we’ll go nuts……….. they will pick up on anything we missed…….. if there is anything to miss……… and I don’t think we’ve spoken to whoever is involved yet…….. this is a stalling tactic……. a diversion………… to throw us off the case………….. you need some down time………. have a soak in the bath or go out tonight……… I’ll come with you if you want, or we’ll watch chick flicks………. I’ll buy takeout……… my cooking’s not up to much…I can manage breakfast but not much else….. and tomorrow we can face whatever is thrown at us…….. I’m not going anywhere till we’ve found him, I promise…………’ Jack squeezed her hands as he spoke, trying to reassure her.

‘Takeout and chick flicks look good………. but you don’t need to stay with me, Jack……….. I’m sure you’ve got better things to do……………’

Her words were cut off by Jack, ‘you know Thomas I could get very offended here………. I realise I’m not cute and cuddly like the Wonderdog…….. but it doesn’t help my self-esteem when you keep trying to get rid of me…….. and I did have a shower this morning so I don’t smell and I haven’t changed my after-shave…….. so it can’t be that……… I guess I must just not be as nice a guy as I once thought……….. I’m deeply hurt………..’ he grinned and pretended to wipe tears from his eyes, making her laugh.

‘I remember the shower, Jack…………. I don’t want to cramp your dating … I’m sure you have a hot date………..’

Jack wrinkled his nose, ‘date………. nope, no date hot or otherwise……. in fact I can’t remember when I last had a date of any sort………yeah I do………. the afternoon I took you to the football game………. after the auction…….’

‘I was your last date?’ she asked, absolutely incredulous since she knew Jack Hudson was a hot topic among the female workers of all grades at the bureau, as was Bobby.

‘Yeah……… you sound surprised…………’

‘Guess I just assumed that you were out every night…………’

‘I am out every night but usually running, or taking you out for dinner, or going to Deaf Club with you……… or a game, with you………. in fact the one person I seem to be ‘dating’ right now would be you, Miss Thomas………and right now I’m more than happy with that arrangement………….’

Reading his lips she raised her eyes to look at his, they were dark and sparkling……….. she so often got lost in them……… often glanced over at him when he was in the pen, hoping just to get a glimpse of them……….. ever since that time when she’d remarked on his eyes she’d been conscious of the effect they had on her………. sometimes one glance from those eyes would cause her to go weak at the knees.

‘Ok, then……… well if you’re happy ‘dating’ me like that then I guess takeout and chickflicks will be great……… but when Levi comes home I’m taking you out for dinner to say ‘Thank You’ for staying with me and looking after me so well……….. as long as you stay outside the bathroom while I’m in the tub………….’

Jack huffed loudly, ‘as I recall Thomas it wasn’t me who walked in on you but you who walked in on me just a few hours ago…………. and ………’ he ground to a halt.

‘And what, Hudson………..?’

‘I was about to say that you didn’t complain about the view….. in fact you said it was cute……………’ he arched his eyebrows and grinned a cute lopsided grin which made her laugh.

‘It was cute………. is cute……… just like………..’ she stopped, this was getting embarrassing, almost as embarrassing as walking into the bathroom had been.

‘Just like……………..?’ he prompted.

‘Just like……….. like……….. the rest of you…………..’ she mumbled, feeling her face begin to turn a vivid shade of pink, why did she start this conversation she asked herself.

By now they had reached her apartment and Jack moved quickly to open her car door. As she exited the car, she signed ‘Thank you’ before leaning to give him a peck on the cheek.

Her lips landed on his as he inadvertently moved his head and as they met he threw caution to the wind and held her against him kissing her gently, surprised when she responded, placing one arm around his shoulder and the other around his waist.

As the kiss deepened their thoughts flew back to kiss at Callaghan and Merced.

Coming up for air sometime later, Jack was wracked with guilt as he signed ‘sorry’.

Confusion written on her face, Sue asked what he was apologising for.

‘The kiss………. I should never have done it………. it was the wrong time, Sue……..’

‘Are you apologising for kissing me or for the timing………….?’

‘Which would you prefer me to apologise for?’ he whispered, wishing the ground would open up and swallow him, he could be such a jerk at times.

‘Neither………. although the timing could have been better………… a couple of years earlier would have been good…………..I’ve been waiting for you to kiss me since that night at the law firm…….. I know you said it was a response to the situation but I wanted it to be more than that……….I knew Janice was coming but I wanted her to turn around and allow me to stay in your arms for the rest of the night ……… and don’t beat yourself up about kissing me right now……you haven’t heard me complaining have you…..? sometimes God brings good things out of bad situations and if us being honest is a result of this situation then I can live with it………….. ’

Jack released the breath he hadn’t even realised he was holding, ‘so we can continue this conversation over takeout and chick flicks then?’

Sue nodded, waiting for him to close the door and lock the car before taking his hand as they entered her apartment building.

Sitting together on the couch while they debated what to order to eat Jack asked ‘have you really been waiting for us to kiss again since that night?’

Sue nodded, ‘for an undercover kiss it was the best kiss I’ve ever had……. not that I’ve had many you understand………. but I knew I was in love with you even before that………… even before the undercover marriage…….. every time we were together I was praying for another kiss……… even just to hold hands with you would have been enough…… I wanted you to feel the same but I didn’t think you did……. didn’t see how you could want me as a girlfriend………….. the times you held me or held my hand……. or just smiled at me meant so much but I wanted more…………… wanted to be special to you…………..’

His eyes beginning to tear, Jack was barely able to speak, ‘I’m so sorry Sue…… I had no idea you felt that way……. I thought I was just a friend… a work colleague………. I wanted all that too…………’

Taking a deep breath he decided that actions spoke louder than words and moved his head, holding her head in his hands before he planted a kiss on her lips, waiting for her to respond before deepening the kiss, running his tongue over her lips he was almost begging for access to her mouth.

Moving apart after some tentative exploration it wasn’t long before they were kissing again, this time they ended up lying together on the couch, hands running through hair and under clothes.

Sitting up some time later Sue was wracked with guilt, ‘I should be out looking for Levi, Jack……… not sitting here with you…………’

‘Sue…….. what could you do right now……..? It’s not like last time when he was out on the streets alone and we were all looking for him…….. we’ve read the interviews so many times I can almost quote you chapter and verse on all of them…….. the guys are re-reading them…….. Howie’s got all his contacts working on the case……… right now there is really nothing else anyone can do……. They won’t hurt him because he is their bargaining chip ………and I’m not saying all this because I want you to stay with me………. although that is a very pleasant thought……. but because it’s true……. You need to stay healthy so when we find him you can look after him……. He won’t thank you if he comes home and you’re too tired or ill to look after him…………. ‘

‘You’re right but I feel guilty because I’m here making out with you and he’s somewhere……………’

‘Ok…… so we stop making out until he comes home……… but you have to make it up to me after, OK?’

Sue nodded and sent Jack out for Chinese…….. it was the one takeout that Levi really didn’t like so she felt less guilty eating that than the pizza which Levi really loved……….. as did Jack.

Preparing to turn in for the night, Sue blushed furiously ‘Jack……….. would you stay with me……… the bed felt kinda empty ……….. Levi usually sleeps at the bottom of the bed………..’

As he nodded Jack wondered if she had any idea what she was asking, this was going to be sheer torture………… he was firm, she had to sleep in her bed since he wasn’t convinced Luce would be pleased to find he’d slept in hers.

Waiting till Sue was in bed Jack curled up at the bottom of the bed by Sues’ feet, wearing t-shirt and running pants.

‘What are you doing Hudson?’ Sue was incredulous.

‘What……….? You wanted me to be a companion for you……a Levi stand-in… Levi sleeps at the bottom of the bed, so that’s what I was doing…………..’ he grinned at her, relieved to see her smile as she moved to slap him on the shoulder,

‘Get in………………’

Saluting her he slid into bed and wrapped his arms around her as she laid her head on his chest. Two minutes later he knew she was asleep from the gentle rhythmic breaths which fluttered across his chest.

oh................. I love the bathroom scene... it was so funny and cute!!! I am sure JACK WAS REALLY CUTE

AND I love Sue's admission about her feelings to Jack and their kissing WONDERFUL PARTS, CATH !

sorry I didn't post this morning, by the time I'd read all the other stories I was running late for work

Chapter 8

Waking early the following morning, still wrapped in Jacks’ arms Sue reached instinctively for the bottom of the bed where Levi would normally be.

Remembering he was gone the tears slid from her eyes, unable to see clearly she was surprised to feel Jack wipe away the tears with his thumb as he kissed her gently on the top of her head, before signing ‘LOVE YOU’.

‘I love you too, Jack’ Sue was barely able to speak through her sadness and his heart broke for her.

True to his promise Jack did no more than kiss her on the top of her head or gently on the lips….. when Levi was back with them he would make sure they made up for it, he had every intention of kissing her senseless again and again and again.

Lying on the bed while Sue showered he contemplated a number of possible scenarios with regard to getting Levi back.

Hitting the shower after Sue was a bad idea……. the scent of her shower gel and shampoo hung in the air, heightening his desires and he had to turn the shower to very cold.

Walking over to the coffee shop they shared breakfast together, Jack’s arm around Sues’ shoulder while her hand rested on his thigh, before they bought donuts for the team and headed for work.

Heading for the pen they were first in, Jack moved his chair to sit beside Sue before filling the coffee machine and taking two mugs of ‘asbestos poisoning’ to the desk.

As the rest of the team ambled in Jack pointed out the donuts before turning his attention back to Sue and the file they were trying to read.

D almost bounced into the pen, waving a file. He’d come in earlier and then left, unnoticed by anyone.

‘We know who’s been selling the secrets, one Neil Davis…………..’

As he looked around the pen he noticed for the first time a change in Jack and Sue……… they’d sat beside each other yesterday…… and on Sunday but today there was more physical contact. Jack had his arm draped around Sues’ shoulder……. D knew he’d say it was so she was less isolated but he was sure there was more to it than that…….. Sue had her hand resting on his arm…….. D had never seen her like that before; Sue had always been very professional around Jack, cautious of any kind of physical contact, only allowing him near her if she was upset and even then it was only for a few brief moments.

He smiled to himself, knowing that in the middle of her sadness they had finally admitted what the rest of the team had known almost since she started working at the bureau………. their love was mutual.

Jack tapped Sue on the shoulder, signing ‘D NEWS’ as he did so.

‘Neil Davis………..? Isn’t he the Senators’ Senior Aide?’ Myles asked, he’d met Davis a few times and found him to be arrogant and self opinionated.

‘It is indeed’ D confirmed, ‘and one of the women who have been actively involved…….. and I mean very actively involved, with the Senator is none other than Elaine, his wife………..’

‘So, are we thinking ticked off husband who has access to the Senators’ files and wants to make some money, get revenge and frame the Senator?’ Bobby queried, hoping they were close to finding Levi.

He hated seeing Sue so sad although he had noticed that Jack seemed to be doing a pretty good job of keeping her spirits up.

Looking over at his best friend he noticed he still had his arm around Sue’s shoulders and then realised she had her arm around his waist. Bobby looked away grinning to himself, wondering if they realised that they resembled a couple who were dating.

‘Dating?’ he thought to himself, ‘could they really be dating?’ He glanced around at D who winked at him and nodded.

Suddenly aware Jack was speaking Bobby snapped back to the matter in hand, he’d talk to Jack later…………

‘Sorry Sparky, can you run that past me again………. I was thinking………’

‘I wondered what the strange noise was….. must have been the unused cogs in your brain grinding into action…………’ Jack grinned at him, he was still worried sick about Levi and what Sue would do if they didn’t find him but now they were dating he was planning on being there for her every step of the way, not that he’d planned on doing anything different since she’d rung him Sunday morning.

Sue slapped him on the arm and he caught her hand and squeezed it gently, oblivious to the stares of the team.

‘I was asking how we knew it was Davis……we haven’t gotten around to speaking with Elaine yet……….’

‘Howie came through again…… he knows someone who knows someone……’ D explained with a grin.

‘You know………… I bet Howie even knows someone who knows someone who knows the President…………’ Tara chipped in, causing them all to laugh, even Sue.

‘OK……….. so do we have a plan to bring him down and return the Wonderdog to the bosom of his friends and family?’

Sue looked in confusion at Jack who signed and repeated Myles’ question verbally.

The team looked expectantly at Jack who was formulating a plan………

Oh, we might just have Levi by nightfall!!!

Chapter 9

‘Ok………. We ask SOG to tail Davis………. When they’ve picked him up we ring the Senator, inform him that we’re dropping the case….. don’t give him a reason……… Sue and I will visit…… apologise for any inconvenience………. Davis will hear, SOG will follow him to wherever he has Levi and we will …………’

‘Take him down…………..‘ Bobby interrupted.

‘Do we have enough on him for selling secrets?’ Sue asked quietly.

‘Not yet…….. but we will…….. Howie’s been priming his ‘someone’ to turn States Evidence………..’ D answered.

‘Right………. let’s get SOG on Davis and I’ll contact the Senator…. set up a meeting with him…………. hang in there Sue, we will get him back I promise………’ Jack squeezed her shoulder as he spoke before whispering ‘love you’.

As D contacted SOG Jack made an appointment with the Senator for 3 PM.

Asking Tara to take Sue for lunch Jack headed to the firing range, an idea forming in his mind. He knew what he’d do if things went the way he thought they would.

To his surprise the guys showed up, firing off a few rounds before D and Myles headed off, leaving Bobby who dragged him outside.

‘So………..? You gonna tell me what’s with you and Sue, Sparky?’

‘Nothing……………. you already know I’m staying with her so she’s not alone…… and I’m trying to be as supportive as I can…….. Sue and Levi are special……….. to all of us………..’ Jack hoped Bobby couldn’t hear his heart thumping as he kept his face impassive.

Looking Jack in the eye, Bobby knew they were dating but decided not to push the point…….. they had enough to deal with right now without the bosses getting wind of a breach of the rules……….. and at least he would have deniability if anyone asked.

‘So………. how’s she doin?’

‘Jack shrugged, ‘comes and goes………. last night we ate Chinese and watched chick flicks and she was fine……… this morning she saw his food bowl and was in tears……………. we have to get him back, Crash……… failure isn’t an option…………..’

‘We will………… you got a plan?’

‘Oh, yeah……… I’ve got a plan…………..’ Jack muttered darkly.

‘Care to share…………?’

Cath, that was wonderful, but I can see you down there, just lurking, do ya think we could have another post??? It was so good and I loved how Jack was talking to Bobby about everything.

It sounds a bit like Jack's plan may something to do with shooting since he inferred that he has to be at 100%. Assuming he meant with his markmanship, that sounds a bit scary.

I just hope that Jack won't do something stupid in order to get Levi back!

Chapter 10

Returning to the pen and picking up his sandwich, Jack listened as D confirmed that SOG were tailing Davis.

‘You wanna come with me to see the Senator………? I can take Tara if you’d prefer……………..’

Sue shook her head, ‘I’ll be OK……… I’d prefer to go than wait here………’

Once again Jack admired her tenacious streak……… at work she held everything together, kept working the other cases……… had been nothing but professional…….. it was only when they were alone that she allowed the mask to slip and the tears to fall.

He had a vague idea of how she was feeling, he felt the same desolation and devastation each time she went missing, wondered if he’d ever see her again, wondered what he would do without her in his life………… and that was before he’d acknowledged his feelings and realised she felt the same………. but Sue had lived with Levi for 4 years now, he’d been her friend and constant companion since she’d arrived in DC.

It had been Levi who had first piqued his interest in Sue……… no that wasn’t true……… he’d been attracted to Sue the moment he saw her………. but Levi had given him a way in to talk to her………….. Levi had become his friend as well as Sue……….. when she was missing they’d sit together, seeking comfort from each other………… he knew Levi was an extension of Sue but now he wondered when Levi had become an extension of him too.

He cast his mind back to the first case they’d worked, Levi had pushed Sue out of the way of the gunfire and taken a bullet for him………….. he remembered the look of devastation written on Sues’ face when she thought Levi was dead………. the ambulance ride to the hospital and the night spent with Sue as they waited for him to recover from surgery……… in the midst of her pain Sue had been concerned for him too………. and he had been wracked with guilt, if he’d kept her in the loop it would never have happened……………………

Returning to his desk in a daze Jack thought about Levi, smiling as he remembered him cocking his leg on Myles’ pant leg ………… he shouldn’t have laughed but even now it made him chuckle………… he’d watched Levi so many times reach people who were hurting, Noah…….. Lily …….. he’d found Danny in the bombed out café……………..

His thoughts ceased as he heard Myles’ voice ringing in his ears, ‘so………. you and Sue go visit the Senator………… SOG tail Davis………. How will we know when he arrives at wherever he has Levi?’

‘We can rule out his home or any other public place……. a new dog would arouse too many suspicions and questions……and give Levi the chance to escape……... my guess would be a warehouse… a garage………. lock up’ D suggested. ‘I’m thinking he wouldn’t be working alone, Levi is a big dog…….. you’d need 2 people to pick him up…he wouldn’t just go with anyone even if they had him on a leash, they’d have to drag him…………. he’s gonna struggle………. bark……. possibly bite one of them, or at least try to ……… I’ll bet he’ll find out we’ve dropped the case and head to wherever Levi is almost immediately……. as long as they have him he’s a danger to them……… he’ll be barking……… trying to escape………………… eating……… and……… you know………….’

Jack nodded, ‘be my guess……… I expect as his Senior Aide Davis will be present when we speak to the Senator………. SOG will follow him ……. inform us where he is….. we go in………….. rescue Levi and take Davis down…………. and while he’s in lock up we can obtain the evidence on the secrets.’

Sue swallowed hard, ‘I want to thank you all for working so hard to find him……. I appreciate it, especially since he doesn’t work for the bureau and you’ve been working so hard and so long on the other cases we’ve had recently………..’ a loan tear trickled down her cheek.

‘I think I speak for us all Sue when I say that the Wonderdog is as much a part of the team and an FBI employee as the rest of us……. without him we wouldn’t have you on the team and we would be less effective……… we may not pay him in money but he is paid in treats……….. to say nothing of all the take outs Jack buys him………….’ Myles grinned at Jack as he spoke, while Jack remained impassive as Myles continued. ‘Levi has helped capture a conman and wife beater……….. he dug Danny out of the rubble…… I think we all owe him a great deal………. and we will work ceaselessly to bring him home……… there are a few people I wouldn’t work hard to rescue…….. like Randy………….’

Everyone nodded and grinned at Myles’ words….. Levi was part of the team and all of them were missing him badly.

Chapter 11

Checking his watch later, Jack suggested he and Sue went for a coffee ‘before we go see the Senator………’

‘So you have a plan yet Jack?’ Sue held his hand, rubbing her thumb over his knuckles as she did so, watching his face closely.

‘A plan………..? No I don’t have a plan………. I have about a hundred plans………. depending on where Levi is, how many people there are, how many entrances………. I’ve played every possible scenario over and over in my head…….. I’m prepared for all eventualities……… but we will get him back Sue………. that’s a promise………. Myles is right, Levi is a big part of this team…….. and he was right about Randy……… as far as I’m concerned the man has only one redeeming quality………. him dating Hannah meant we got to chaperone them and go on a date………. I’m looking forward to lots more dates, but without Randy………….’

Sue raised her eyes at him and grinned before they headed towards the car, ‘more dates huh? I might decide I don’t want you when Levi is back…………. ‘

‘I’ll just have to work extra hard to persuade you that you do want more dates then won’t I?’ he grinned at her, his eyes sparkling, ‘and I love a challenge………’

Alone in the car as they headed towards the Senators’ office he took her hand and squeezed it gently.

Sitting with the Senator and Davis they were professional and detached. As Jack took the lead, Sue read his lips.

‘We won’t be investigating you any further sir, we believe the information was given maliciously……… but I’m sure you understand that we have to follow up any such information…….’

‘Absolutely Agent Hudson…… I understand and I appreciate that you drew it to a close so quickly and efficiently………. do you know who passed the information to you?’

Jack shook his head, ‘If there’s nothing else Sir…… we have a number of other cases which we’re working on………’

‘Of course, yes……… it’s a big country out there………’

Exiting the main doors on to the pavement, Jack rang Bobby to appraise him of the situation, ‘Sue and I will head back, can you contact SOG…..’

Turning to Sue, he hugged her tightly, figuring that if SOG were watching they would assume it was a hug between supportive colleagues.

‘Love you’ she whispered.

‘ME SAME’ he signed as he opened the car door for her.

Reaching the pen he requested an update.

‘SOG say he left 10 minutes after you…….. heading south out of the city’ Bobby replied, noting again that Jack had his arm around Sues’ shoulders, this was definitely more than the actions of a supportive colleague…….

‘OK…….. let’s get ready…….. Bobby, you and I will go together, D with Myles…… Tara you and Sue in the command centre………. and whatever happens neither of you leave it…………’

‘But……..’

‘No ‘buts’ Sue…….. I know he’s your dog and you want him back but if they’re armed and I’m pretty sure they will be…….. I don’t want you in the way of any gunfire OK? Tara tie her down if you have to……..’

Tara nodded and grinned at them, she could see Sue was pretty steamed now and guessed Jack was probably due a telling off about keeping her out of the loop and being over protective.

Sometimes I think Jack has to pull rank like this. I have never known of Sue receiving credentials or the training to carry a gun. She has to be treated differently from someone who is trained in weapons, and I think he is right. Have I defended Jack enough here?
