Hey, I’ve been reading stories on the site for a while, but haven’t been brave enough to post one. So I thought I’d dive in at the deep end and have a go at a challenge! Hope you like it.

Hey Jack,
Just warning you of an impending situation;
mom’s sending Allie to invite you to her
garden warming/get together thingy.

Jack stared at the monitor in front of him and groaned as he set about replying to the email.

Thanks for the warning sis, what should I do??
Why didn’t she invite me herself?
Do I have to go?
Jack.
Georgina Hudson read the email and laughed, she was the youngest sibling and was supposed to ask those questions, not her older brother who was a special agent with the FBI!

1) I’d say flee the country! But not really an option.
2) Mom has this absurd idea that she can get you and that woman back together
3) YES!!!! Don’t you dare leave me to face those people on my own.

“Oh man” Jack sighed as he read his sister’s email.
“Hey Sparky” Bobby shouted, “Why the long face?”
Jack glanced toward the desk opposite his to see Sue absorbed in her work. She was so beautiful, he couldn’t bring himself to look away until a paper ball hit him on the head.
“What?” Jack said looking in the direction from whence the offending item came.
“Stop staring like a fool and tell me what’s up?” Bobby replied.
Jack huffed and walked over to Bobby’s desk. “My mom wants me to go to a get together BBQ this weekend”.
“What’s so bad about that?” Bobby asked, “Your dad makes a mean salsa”.
Jack rolled his eyes, “It’s not the food, it’s the fact that my mom’s sending Allie to invite me”.
“You what?” Bobby said incredulously, “she’s still trying to get you guys together?”
“Oh yeah, she’s still trying”
“Who’s still trying what?” Tara asked as she walked past Bobby’s desk.
“Mrs. H. is still trying to get Sparky here, and Allie together” Bobby answered.
“Ouch” Tara commented as she made her way to her own desk.
Meanwhile, Sue looked up as Tara passed Bobby’s desk and caught the last part of the conversation. Her chest tightened at the thought of it. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t get Jack Hudson out of her head, or her heart! Sue wanted something to happen between them, something more than a few lingering glances, the odd touch when the situation allowed, but each time the moment would be broken or one of them would pull away. But why would he choose someone like her over someone like Allie.
Allie was beautiful, experienced, and had a history with Jack, whereas she was just his deaf co-worker. Sue had seen the looks on women’s faces before when they thought her and Jack were an item, looks of jealousy, then upon finding out she was deaf, looks of distain, as if she wasn’t good enough for him. She felt the tears well up in her eyes at that thought and tried hard to blink them back and concentrate on her work.
