Okay, some of y'all may be thinking, another story from her? What can I say? This is my 5th entry into the Summer Blockbuster Challenge. It's kind of funny because I initially had no intention of entering the challenge at all!!! Anyway, this is a very American-themed story, in honor of Independence Day, the 4th of July. Hopefully, all of you, including those of you not from the USA, will enjoy it!!!

Just a warning, story posts will generally be short. However, I should be able to post at least two or three a day, until it's done!

Independence Day

It was the 4th of July, Independence Day. Jack Hudson thought to himself how much he loved the 4th of July. He loved living in the United States of America, "the land of the free and the home of the brave". He loved the Declaration of Independence and how it states, "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." And today, he certainly was in pursuit of happiness!

He loved the Constitution and all the freedoms it guarantees, most importantly among them the freedom of religion, the freedom to worship God. This was a freedom he was much more readily embracing ever since he had met Sue Thomas. It wasn't that his faith wasn't important to him before he met Sue, but she had certainly inspired him to be more devoted in his faith. And it was a good thing too, because she was a firm believer that a man and woman should be "equally yoked".

Thanks for the great replies!

He loved the American flag -- "Old Glory", the "Stars and Stripes". He loved the colors of the flag -- red, white, and blue (his favorite colors, especially on Sue). He loved the Pledge of Allegiance and all that it represented -- "One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all". He loved the national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner".

I am standing beside my computer with my hand over my heart and feeling very patriotic.

So Jack is planning to pursue some happiness. I wonder what he has in mind, or should I say who?

I'm Canadian -- but you know what? All yesterday I found myself humming 'The Star Spangled Banner' -- I think it must have been this story that put it into my mind. laugh.gif

We really do need to have someone define what the requirements are for a 's', a 'sn', etc... wacko.gif

I'm now thinking I probably shouldn't have mentioned that I had an idea for the other title because I think someone is now going to be bugging me about writing it! We'll just have to see, Jen...

I would have posted this sooner, but I was just now able to get on the website! Was it just me, or was something wrong with the website?

He loved living in the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. He loved working for the FBI, the best law enforcement agency in the world, protecting and defending the United States of America. However, just a short time ago he had been willing to give up his job, or at least transfer, for the love of a good woman, if need be. Thankfully, the archaic no-dating within units rule of the FBI had been amended, and he didn't have to give up the job that he loves for the woman that he loves.

Can't promise lots of posts, Cath, but here's another...

He loved baseball, fireworks, and apple pie -- all of which would be important elements of today's festivities.

There was no doubt about it; Jack Hudson was definitely patriotic! He was often told that he was the epitome of the All-American guy. So, he guessed it should come as no real surprise to anyone that he loved the 4th of July so much. It seemed fitting that he should chose this day, a day he loves so much, to propose to the woman he loves so much.

Sue Thomas, the woman of his dreams, the love of his life, was now not only his co-worker and friend, but also his girlfriend. He was hoping that in the the very near future, she would become so much more. And today, he was taking the next step in their relationship. He was excited, but nervous.

There really was little doubt in his mind that she would say yes. They had discussed numerous times, since they started dating, their mutual desire to be married and have children. However, he was nervous that perhaps she might think it was too soon, or that his method was too grandiose.

He had been planning this for a couple of months now, almost immediately after they admitted their love for one another and started dating. He had frequently consulted Lucy, and the other members of the team, as well (except for Sue, of course), as to his plan of action for the event.
