Nuts. Now there are two things to bug me: what they might have done/ said and who sent the letters. Mom liked Jack the last time so that shouldn't be an issue ... should it?

I don't trust the hehehehe's, girl.

You still haven't answered the question Flowersweetie; WHO WROTE THE LETTERS???
lilsmoochiegirl
At least Mrs. Thomas approves of Jack...

It was a shame their evening was cut short smile.gif

The next evening, Mrs. Thomas was out visiting old friends who lived in Virginia, and wouldn't be back till very late. Lucy was staying with her grandmother while Mrs. Thomas was visiting so that Sue didn't have to sleep on the couch. Jack had come over for dinner and had stayed to watch a movie, but unfortunately for him Sue had insisted upon watching A Walk to Remember.

"Jack, that is a movie that everyone needs to see. It may be a bit of a chick flick, but you have to watch it." Then she had turned her puppy eyes on him.

He tried to look away. The puppy eyes got him every time.

"For me?" She tried.

He sighed and nodded. So there they were, curled up on the couch, Levi with his head on Sue's lap. Jack would never have admitted it, but he kind of liked this movie. Not to mention the fact that it provided a chance to snuggle with Sue....

Suddenly Sue sat bolt upright with a gasp. "What!?!" Jack demanded, jumping up, hand on his side, reaching for his gun. Sue snatched the remote and hit pause.

"Jack! If you didn't write the letters, who did?"

Jack sat back down. "Don't scare me like that. I don't know who wrote them. All I know is they did us a big favor. Now can we get back to the movie?"

He winced as a pillow hit him on the side of the head. "Jack Hudson! Do you realize that there's someone out there who's been sending me very affectionate letters and it isn't you?!"

"Wait--is? or was?"

"Is!! I got another one today."

Jack pulled Sue back down onto the couch and removed another pillow gently from her hand. "Sue, let the letters come. If we find out who's sending them, I can easily go have a chat with him. It will be okay," he reassured her.

She nodded and close her eyes, letting herself melt into his arms. But a slimy, hairy snout was what she felt on her face, not Jack's lips. "Levi! Down!" She pushed him off the couch with a gently slep on the nose.

"Doorbell," Jack told her. She rolled her eyes, nodded, and got up to answer it.

She opened the door and immediately took a step back. "What are you doing here?" She demanded.

"Sue, it's been me all along. I sent the letters. I love you. We're meant for each other."

Her mouth dropped open. Jack, sitting on the couch, had seen her reaction and stood up. Coming over, he reached the door just as David reached for Sue, trying to pull her into his arms.

Sue took another big step back, then changed her mind and stepped forward two steps--to slap David in the face. He gaped at her. "Sue, I--"

Jack wrapped his arms lovingly around Sue's waist. "David, I'm going to have to insist you leave. Now." He said in a low, dangerous voice. David didn't move. Jack let go of Sue and took a step toward David.

"Look, I don't want any trouble. I'm leaving!" David said, backing down the hallway and away from Jack.

Jack turned and saw Sue back on the couch, shoulders shaking. "Oh, Sue," he said, hurrying to comfort her.

Her head was buried in her arms. Before he put his arms around her, she spoke. "Jack," she murmured through her arms.

"What, sweetheart?"

"Do you realize-" She looked up at him, and he realized she had been laughing, not crying. "Do you realize what you jsut said to David?" He frowned and nodded, wondering why she asked. "And do you realize that you said the exact words that Randy said to Myles?"

Jack stared at her. "What?"

The expression on his face set her off into another fit of laughter. Jack sat down on the couch next to her, waiting for her to calm down. He figured she msut be pretty overwhelmed by David showing up and was close to hysteria. When she finally stopped laughing, she looked up at him. The laughter was gone from her eyes. It had sunk in that David had just arrived at her door step.

"Shh," he said. "It's okay." With that he pressed play on the remote and covered her lips with his.

Good post - I'm glad we finally know who sent the letters!!

But I'm a little confused as to why Sue slapped David!! Why didn't she just tell him that she was already taken???

Joy
tosca
huh.gif I have to admit that I'm a little confused about the slap too. Then again....we didn't get to see what was in this last letter yet did we?!?!

Secondly, I know you are going to give us some fun and have Mrs. Thomas come home and find these two. It should either cool down the sparks that are flying OR cause a few more to take place!!

Please post again and SOON!

Ummm ... I don't mean to be picky but how exactly does Sue know about the tone of voice? hide.gif I'm sorry, don't hate me ... shakes head.gif ... going off to re-read in case I missed something.

ohmy.gif It was David? And what was in that last letter to make Sue react that way?

Jack raised his eyebrows and looked at Sue. "He wrote this to you?" He asked in disbelief.

She nodded. The two of them were out to lunch and she had brought the letters, upon Jack's request. "You haven't even seen all of them yet," she said ruefully.

He moved to the next page. This was the last letter she had gotten. His eyes widened, and his jaw nearly hit the floor. He muttered something under his breath that Sue--thankfully--didn't catch.

"What was that?" She asked, trying to see his words.

"Ah, nothing. I think we need to go so I can head over to a certain greenhouse and have a word with a certain...gardener." It was obvious that he wanted to call David something else but didn't, for Sue's sake.

"Jack, it's really okay. You don't understand David. Heaven knows I don't either, but I understand him better than you do. Him coming over last night, and you being there, and us saying what we did was enough. If you go over there he'll probably file some sort of charges against you or something." She held up a hand to keep him from protesting. "I wouldn't put it past him."

Jack shook his head. "He won't file charges against me. And if he did, we have about enough for a stalking case against him."

"No, we don't. To a court, we never had an official breakup, there were supposedly no hard feeling toward each other, he could even claim we were still together, just hadn't gone out in a little while because we'd been busy. A judge is not going to say that a 'boyfriend' or former boyfriend sending a few flattering notes is stalking." Sue knew exactly what David would try to do if they went to court with this, and she also knew that he would know how to make it look in his favor.

"Sue! I am not going to just sit back and let his get away with writing things like this to you!"

"Well, Jack, you don't have a choice! Because there is no way you are going to 'talk' to him and me not--" she stopped and sighed. "Sorry. I shouldn't have yelled."

Jack closed his eyes. "No, I'm sorry. All right. I won't go over there." He grinned wickedly. "I'll just have to stick especially close to you to make sure he doesn't bother you again."

We still don't know what was in that letter that set Jack off.

==================
Sue took a deep breath before opening the door. Jack stood there in the hall, in a tux and holding a bouquet of flowers. “Wow.” His eyes were wide at the sight of Sue in her dark blue, spaghetti strap dress.

Sue had argued with herself for quite a while over this dress. She had bought it ages ago, she couldn’t even remember why. It was of a satiny material, and hugged her curves tightly. That wasn’t even mentioning the low back. She had her wrap on right now, but she knew she would probably have to take it off at some point. The other option had been a burgundy dress, which was pretty, and very modest. It had thick straps, and the back came all the way up to her neck. The top was loose and sequiny, with the bottom a smooth velvet fabric. Lucy had come into her room while she was looking at the two dresses, taken one look at them, and said, “Girl, don’t tell me you’re even considering not wearing this dress,” holding up the blue one.

Sue had sighed and agreed to wear it. “With a wrap!” She had told Lucy, who had rolled her eyes.

Jack handed her the flowers, stepping inside. “Ah, are you ready to go?” He asked, apparently having recovered from the first sight of her.

“Let me put these in some water and then we can go,’’ she told him.

A moment later she reappeared from the kitchen. "All ready?" She asked. He nodded and they headed for the door, leaving Levi at home with Lucy.

It was warm outside, beautiful weather for a summer date. Sue realized she wasn't going to need her wrap. She removed it as they walked down the steps of the apartment building, and out of the corner of her eyes saw Jack open his mouth then snap it shut again. She shivered as she felt him put his hand on the small of her back, then open the car door for her.

Two and a half hours later, Sue and Jack were finished with dinner and were strolling in a nearby park, hand in hand. They passed a bench and Jack led Sue to it, pulling her onto his lap, arms wrapped around her. That dress had been driving him insane all night. It complimented her so well...mmm. "Sue?"

"Hmmm?" she looked up, meeting his eyes with no hesitation.

"I love you." His simple statement brought a huge smile to her face and tears to her eyes.

"I love you too," she told him. He smiled even wider than she did. He leaned over to kiss her, keeping it light and casual.

He pulled back and studied her face. "Will you marry me?"

She blinked. "Did I read that right?"

"Uh, I guess so, and I guess that means I shouldn't have--"

"Jack, did you mean that?" She cut him off, her eyes earnest.

"Yes, I did, Sue. I love you. I want you to be my wife more than anything in the world. But I'll wait for you too. I guess that was a little too rushed...."

"I will."

"What?! I mean really?" The gentle smile on her face told him he hadn't been hearing things. He leaned over once again but this time he didn't keep it casual, he let himself deepened the kiss as much as she would let him--which, he discovered, was quite a bit.

"I, I don't have a ring with me..." He said, finally breaking the kiss.

"With you?"

He looked down. "Yeah, I bought it a while ago. I saw it...it reminded me so much of you. It's at my apartment." He looked into her eyes again. "Can we go get it?"

She nodded and they got up to walk back to the car. He held her close on the walk back. He wanted the world to know that this wonderful woman was his.
* * * * *
"Oh, Jack, it's beautiful," she breathed. He had slipped the ring on her finger after kissing it lightly.

"Just like you," he said, kissing her passionately. They made their way to the couch as he moved to her neck, fingering the little straps of her dress. She groaned and pulled him back to her lips, needing to kiss him back.

His hand on her back was creating feelings in er she had never had before. She could feel his fingers on the edge of the fabric, slipping under it occasionally. He moved his lips back to her neck. The sigh he let out told her his feelings as he continued pushing the straps of her dress out of the way of his hungry mouth.

She pulled back to look at him. The passion in his eyes was reflected on hers. "Jack..." He realized the way she felt and held his breath. He moved to slip the strap off her shoulder then stopped.

"Are you sure?" He asked her. She nodded. "Okay." He picked her up and carried her to his bedroom, where he finally pulled those tiny, shiny little straps from off her shoulders, where they had been driving him nuts all night. They stayed there all night, knowing that they were one with each other and they would soon be one in marriage.
