Chapter 1

The team groaned at Lucy’s words, everyone dreading what the two women had planned for the evening, looks of horror and fear appearing on their faces.

Bobby looked at Jack “is it too late to go for a game of pool?” he asked in mock seriousness , Jack looked his friend up and down “well if you want to play pool in that outfit, I really hope you have the powers to match it, cause I cant see where you might be hiding your gun Crash, and I think you might need it” he laughed

Bobby looked at himself then at Jack “yeah mate you might be right there” he laughed

Sue looked at Lucy and smiled, tonight was going to be a success, she just knew it.

She smiled at Bobby “Crash we have a special game just for you, set up in the kitchen” she told him smiling sweetly, Bobby looked at her in suspicion…

“oh yeah?” He told her, not sure if he liked the look in her eyes

“yes, I think it will be your favourite“, she told him laughing “donut snapping” she said smugly,

“I like the sound of that” he replied with a cheeky grin, “but what is it exactly?” he asked sheepishly

Sue took his hand and led him into the kitchen, Levi tightly on their heals, this was a game he had been trying to play all night.

Bobby laughed as he stood looking at the row of donuts suspended at various heights from the ceiling, Sue smiled “you have to try and grab them with your mouth as they swing” she told him laughing, as Levi demonstrated the game “yeah we used to call it jumping for donuts” he said, a big grin on his face, “I was always great at it” he said as he took a huge bite out of the nearest donut
Sue smacked him on the arm, “not yet!” she told him trying to sound stern but failing as he munched happily on the donut.

Yippee-yeehah!!!!! It starts!!!

And what a wonderful start it is too, Allison, I'm loving this already!!! Loved the look of horror spreading across their faces, hee hee hee!

BTW, you read my mind about the game - am thinking of doing that one at Eilidh's Halloween party. Hmm, 3 year olds and sticky donuts, I must be mad. Still it could be worse, could be bobbing for apples .........!!!! Maybe when you've finished writing this, you could come help arrange the party with me?!?!

Seriously, dear friend, thank you for getting the ball rolling, I very much appreciate it. I'm looking also really looking forward to see where you take us next! To quote a line:

Chapter 2

The party was in full swing, Charlie and Troy had also arrived, their costumes had posed a bit of a problem , as the theme had been great lovers from the movies but they had used a bit of creative licence and had come as Errol Flynn and Humphrey Bogart, both great lovers from movies

Everyone had laughed as they walked in Troy as a dashing swashbuckling Errol Flynn and Charlie as a gruff Humphrey Bogart from Casablanca, complete with white tuxedo jacket.

Sue had crossed over and hugged them both, Troy’s reaction had been the same as everyone else’s when he caught sight of Sue. His eyes had grown round and all he could think to sign was “WOW”

Sue had laughed and hugged him, which had aren’t a long look from Jack, Catching sight of his friend Bobby had smiled slightly, a little jealousy wasn’t always a bad thing he thought to himself. And in that outfit he couldn’t blame Jack feeling insecure…Sue was a knock out, and Troy he had to admit from a totally male outlook made a pretty good Errol Flynn pirate type.

Once everyone was settled with drinks and food, the group settled down to a roaring game of pictionary, they had decided to play boys versus girls, but to keep the team sizes equal Charlie had agreed to play with the girls, as he had said with a smile on his weathered face, it wasn’t every day an old man like him got to sit surrounded by some of the most beautiful women of the film industry, especially the stunning Minnie mouse, he had teased Tara.

Sue and Lucy had devised their own version, with a Halloween and movie theme, the rules were basic, each player took a turn, to draw a card then draw pictures to represent what was on the card, the teams had two minutes to quess what the card said. The team with the most points won.

“that was cheating” D said laughing at his wife, “you deliberately tried to distract me” he told her, having watched her rather than the game as she adjusted the strap of her costume, the girls had been losing until a campaign had been devised to distract the men, namely that of costume rearrangement. Donna just smiled sweetly at her husband, “What? The strap was falling down!” she laughed

“Yeah right, you Sheila’s are playing dirty, just admit it” Bobby drawled having endured Darcy rearranging the split on her straight plain suit skirt with a large split at the side. Darcy just smiled at him, and winked.

Sue had joined in managing to distract all of the men when she stood up and smoothed her skin tight trousers slightly, allowing the girls team to guess the picture correctly.

The game soon degenerated into cheating, laughter and hysterics. With no one really winning, because the game never really got finished for the laughter.

Chapter 3

The party was a lively event, with everyone having fun. Games and laughter rebounded around the room, a little before midnight Donna asked Sue if she could turn the heating up as she was freezing, everyone had agreed that the room had gotten a little chilly, so Sue had turned up the heating.

Everyone was sitting around talking, when Levi started to growl at the wall, his hackles raised and his posture menacing.

Sue called to him but he didn’t move, just kept growling. She stood and went over to him, feeling the temperature drop she shivered slightly, her skin raising in goose bumps

Bobby laughed “Hey the ghosts are out” he joked to the rest of the group, Darcy hit him and then snuggled closer to him, suddenly feeling very uneasy. Jack stood and went to Sue, who was kneeling down next to Levi trying to calm him. As suddenly as Levi’s growls started they stopped. Levi turned to Sue and started to wag his tail. Sue looked at Jack who just shrugged, not sure what had gone on there. “You are a daft dog sometimes” she told Levi fondly, giving his back a good rub.

Sue and Jack returned to the sofa and sat back down, Bobby grinned “maybe we should tell ghost stories?” he laughed, earning him numerous thrown cushions and another smack from Darcy.

The last few moments had caused a subconscious reaction, protective arms sought and given, it was Halloween after all, and it had been spooky. Everyone tried to ignore it though and soon the conversation was flowing freely again.

Not long after Charlie decided to call it a night, telling everyone that his old bones couldn’t take late nights anymore, and he had to get up early to open the garage anyway. Troy insisted on going with him, signing that it was late and not a good night to be out on your own with all the kids out looking for trouble. If truth were told he loved Charlie and hated the idea that something might happen to him this late at night. Washington was not always a safe city.

Lucy jumped up not long after they left, “we have scary movies” she told everyone, with a grin. “Who wants to get scared?” she laughed going to the stack of DVD’s

“We are often scared” drawled Myles, “Usually when it comes to there being only one donut left, and Koala boy being in the room” he drawled with a small smile.

“Hey I resent that mate” retorted Bobby, “ we get scared most when you start talking, just in case the oxygen runs out” he retorted back

“Ok Boy’s, lets not fight” laughed Sue, “lets get scared” she laughed.

Just then the lights went out and the room became very very cold

Chapter 4

Everyone jumped at the sound of the banging on the front door, the team all reached for weapons that weren’t there. Jack and bobby rose together and went to the door, Myles and D close on their heals. Levi feeling the tension growled low in his throat.

Lucy gabbed Sue’s hand and finger spelt “DOOR” so that Sue knew what was happening, she then stood and fetched the flashlights from the kitchen.

Jack looked at the others in the darkness and quickly swung the door open. Then paused at the woman standing there, with the scruffiest and largest dog you could imagine.

“Jack, thank god your all here, I was so worried about you all” Caitlin said, walking past him into the room, careful not to touch him dark, Caitlin looked down at the dog, “yeah why are the lights off?” she started to say, “Oh no, to late” she whispered. Feeling a coldness brush past her.

Jack and the team looked at Caitlin, the woman had been part of a case they worked a few months ago, and had briefly dated Myles. She was an unusual woman, with an unusual ability but they all liked and trusted her.

And Lurch her dog was well…odd… Caitlin talked to him as if he answered sometimes, even having conversations with him…they had all come to accept it, she had lived such a solitary life, with Lurch as her only companion that it was understandable.

Ok so I am doing some fudging here…in my story with Caitlin, Bobby is married to Lizbet not dating Darcy and Sue and Jack are married, and well you get the picture…but Caitlin and lurch are perfect for Halloween…so the scene for this is that the case (midnight road) happened a few months ago, and they are all her friends…she and Myles are on again off again. And are currently off again.

Hope you don’t mind!
Smiler
We don't mind at all! It's great to see Caitlin and Lurch again although i hope they didn't bring the ghosties with them! I'm hiding behind my cushion as i write awaiting your next post.

Oh, Allison, I just love reading your stories...it's Halloween and it's fanficland so anything works...I love seeing Catlain in this setting.

This is so good, so fun, so creative. Anxious to see what you do with all the "couple."

Also loved Troy's care of Charlie...that was an extra special touch of tenderness.

Chapter 5

Lucy had handed out flashlights, they had tried to light candles but they kept blowing out, even though there wasn’t a breeze. Everyone was getting nervous, the lights were on in the rest of the building, and the fuses seemed ok…but the lights stayed off.

Darcy had voted to call the night quits, but none of the team were willing to leave, this was Sue and Lucy’s home and something strange was going on…all eyes kept turning to Caitlin.

She sat huddled on the chair, carefully avoiding everyone’s touch, her eyes darting round the room, Levi and Lurch seemed to be in competition as to who could growl the most and at the which empty space the longest.

The room was freezing, so cold you could see your breath, Sue had been to fetch blankets for everyone,

“Caitlin I assume that you know more than you are letting on as to what is happening here” Myles drawled, still raw at her for telling him he had the emotional depth of a fish, of course that was the nicest thing she had said in that conversation, he turned to glare at the mutt, for good measure. He watched as Caitlin looked at the dog, “No Lurch your not a mutt” she smiled slightly then turned to look at Myles “yeah I have an idea what’s going on” she said, her eyes worried, “its Halloween, and the spirits need help” she told the room, watching the looks of disbelief and fear cross faces.

She smiled impishly “Anyone fancy a séance?”

Suddenly the lights came back on, and all the doors in the apartment slammed shut at once

Chapter 6

The room was silent, D stood with his arms around Donna, who was shaking slightly, her face filled with fear, her eyes darting around the room.

Darcy sat close to Bobby, her face scared but her mind whirring as to what sort of story this might be, if she didn’t die of fright first she thought moving even closer to Bobby.

Tara stood next to Stanley, her eyes looking at Caitlin curiously then around the room her eyes assessing and wondering. This was exciting she thought.

Sue stood next to Lucy, there arms around each other, Lucy looked terrified, as if her worst nightmare had come true, Sue looked confused, she had felt the vibrations of the doors and although was frightened she wondered at Caitlin’s words. What had she meant about the spirits needing help.

Jack stood next to Sue, his automatic reaction to but his arm around Sue and pull her into the safety of his arms. He didn’t believe in ghosts, but something was going on and it didn’t feel right.

Myles stared at Caitlin, torn between believing her and her abilities and his own disbelief in the paranormal, all he knew was something was going on, but he had no doubt there was a rational explanation

Caitlin looked around the room, tell, help, she looked down at Lurch at his words, knowing she did indeed have to tell them, she hated it when he was right. She sighed, she hated this so much, she had finally found some friends and now they were all going to laugh her out of town, oh well she had to try.

“I felt her here once before, she needs help. It suddenly crossed my mind tonight that she would have the opportunity to seek that help. Trouble is I also felt the person who killed her, and he is not going to want her to find the help she needs to cross over“ She paused knowing she was rambling, which is a bit silly for someone who makes her living talking as a radio talk show host.

Her eyes turned to Myles as he spoke, “So you wish us to believe that the power cut is due to some dead woman wanting the FBI to help her?, Sorry but she has the wrong team, that would be Mulder and Scully she needs, not us“ he drawled in disbelief.

Sue looked at her “We have a ghost?” she asked in disbelief, shivering slightly.

Caitlin shook her head and smiled “no you have two” she told Sue ruefully.

Ok... something tells me you would be really good at the tarot cards... am I right? This is very good. And, being someone who has lived in a haunted house... very real. (No kidding... when we lived in Bermuda, the house we lived in was from the 1700's, the other part, the 1800's. And it was haunted.. . a privateer, and a slave, or so they said.)

OK.... beddie bye time...night.

Chapter 7

Caitlin looked around at the people gathered before her, some she could tell believed her, others were afraid but one ore two thought she was completely mad. Maybe she was, maybe what she felt was in fact a form of insanity, who knew and to be truthful she had stopped caring, all she knew was she could sense other peoples feelings and emotions and it didn’t stop with the living. She had felt the spirits before.

Her eyes turned to Sue, she liked this woman, she understood her, no they understood each other. Being different in a world that strived for perfection was not easy, no matter what that difference was. Sue was looking at her with worry, but not loathing or disbelief, she looked concerned, but Caitlin was sure the concern wasn’t for her, she was positive it was for the spirits, kind, she looked at Lurch and nodded, Sue did indeed have a kind heart.

“So what you are trying to tell us, is that this apartment is haunted by two ghosts?” Myles drawled. Caitlin looked at him and sighed, trust him not to believe, she thought sadly. Him, Caitlin ignored Lurch, Myles was not the one for her, even if the daft mutt did thing so, not mutt Lurch, “alright already” she told the dog, her gaze shooting back to the group, but no one seemed to mind that she had talked to the dog, she liked that they had accepted it, maybe though her odd for it, but had accepted it non the less.

“in a sense yes” Caitlin told Myles, but addressing the whole group, “But in a sense no, the term ghost is one that can encompass many things, and is more appropriate to Halloween, what I am talking about is a spirit, the essence if you like of a person who has died. But for some reason that person is unable to cross over into death and so their spirit or essence remains. Some people are sensitive to them and can feel or even see their presence. I can feel their emotions, the same way I feel the living, by contact. However Halloween is not just an excuse for kids to party, it is older than Christianity, in fact it goes as far back as the Celtic druids and Samhain. Which was when it was felt that the veil separating the worlds of the living and the dead lowered and allowed the dead to return for one night. Whether you believe that or not, the truth is that this is a powerful night and things happen. I had a feeling that tonight she would try to seek help, and I was right, she is here now and she is scared”

At her words the room chilled and the lights dipped but stayed on, “He is here too, and he will stop at nothing to prevent us from helping her cross over”

Sue looked at Caitlin “What happened to her?” she asked quietly, shivering in the cold room, wishing Jack would but his arm around her, knowing that he wouldn’t.

Myles snorted “What? you believe this nonsense?” he laughed derisively, Bobby looked at Myles “Hey there are stranger things that ghosts in this world mate, you being one of them” he joked trying to ease the tension in the room. But failing, Darcy looked at him and shook her head “how do you help a spirit cross over? Do you have to hold a séance or something?” she asked eagerly, seeing the angle of this story clearly in her mind.

Lucy looked at the room “look I believe in ghosts and sprits and things, Grandma raised me on stories of them, but there isn’t one here, surely we would have felt it before now?” she asked desperately, not wanting to have a ghost

Caitlin shook her head “you may not ever have felt her before, she may not have been strong enough to stop him, or she may not have been ready to go, but she is now and she is growing in strength, the problem is the stronger and more determined she gets, the stronger and more vicious he gets” she turned to Darcy “ and to answer your question, you have to find out why they cant cross and but the reason right, a séance might work in getting the spirit to speak to you, but I don’t think in this case its necessary or wise”

Caitlin looked at Sue and smiled sadly “I don’t know what happened to her, all I know is she is terrified and that he hurt her badly” sad, she looked at Lurch and stroked his ears gently, yes the sprit was very sad.

Donna looked at D then at the group “Well it seems to me the ghost, sorry, spirit chose the right apartment to haunt this Halloween” she smiled “Because this team are great at solving mysteries!” she said looking at her husband with pride, knowing he would help the woman, even if she was already dead, knowing that they all would.

Chapter 8

Just as Donna finished saying that, all heck broke free.

Levi and Lurch both bounded over to the bookshelf and started growling low and deep, hackles raised, teeth barred. Whatever was there was not friendly. The lights started to flicker as if a battle was being waged for the light switch. And the room dropped in temperature again, fast and chillingly. All eyes turned to Caitlin, the only one who might have a clue as to what was happening. She sat so still, her face white and terrified. Her eyes blank. A mist curled slowly at her feet, and lights danced around the chair.

Sue started forward, but Jack held her back and moved forward slowly himself, but not as fast as Myles moved, he was beside Caitlin in a second, scooping her into his arms and moving her away from the chair.

Just as suddenly as the light show started it stopped

Caitlin moaned once, then passed out in Myles’s arms. No one moved, the room hung heavy with silence. And warmth, the cold had gone as quickly as it had appeared.

After a moment Bobby and Darcy leapt of the sofa and Myles lay Caitlin gently on it
“Is she ok Mate?” Bobby asked peering at her still form intently, careful not to touch her, Myles being the only one able to do that with out causing the strange woman pain. At Bobby’s words Caitlin began to come round, her lashes flickering, her eyes slowly opening

“Where am I” she asked in a softly melodic voice, one that was nothing like her own smokey tones.

Chapter 9

“I’m no sure where to begin” the woman said. It had taken the people in the room some time to assimilate what had happened, and they still weren’t sure just what had happened. All they knew was Caitlin wasn’t Caitlin, she claimed to be a young girl called Clara.

Sue sat next to Clara/Caitlin and held her hand. What was clear was the woman before them all was terrified. And unlike Caitlin she could be touched, she had none of Caitlin’s abilities.

Myles looked over at the woman from the mantelpiece where he was leaning “From the beginning is usually the best place” he drawled sarcastically, not able to fully believe that this wasn’t some Joke Caitlin was playing.

The woman looked over and smiled “its alright sir, I don’t really know what is happening either” she told him gently.

She looked around the room, “this is all so different, It is the same apartment yet so very different.” she sighed looking at the people gathered there, what was happening?

Sue looked at her “when did you live here?” she asked her gently

“I have never lived her, I work here, my employer is the pianist Mr Charles Parker-Williams. I am a maid here.” she told them, again looking around at the apartment. It was so strange, the way they dressed and talked, the way everything looked. Surely this must be one of Mr Parker-Williams parties and a practical joke of some kind.

It could not possibly be what they were telling her, this was 1944, and this was Mr Parker-Williams apartment, not these two ladies. And yet things were not right. She started to cry softly. This wasn’t right, this couldn’t be happening to her.
TinaLynne
Pretty wild, Allison! It'll be interesting to see what this girl has to say about what happened in the apartment.

Chapter 10

The morning dawned bright and clear, the events of the night before came back to Sue slowly, she looked around her room, as if looking for a ghost lurking in the corner, she rose slowly out of her bed and headed to the living room. She paused at the woman sleeping on the sofa, she looked like Caitlin. Surely it was her? But everything that happened last night made her think that this was really happening. She was no longer Caitlin she was Clara. A young maid from 1944. One who had been haunting this apartment, along with some mysterious man.

The only trouble was Caitlin had been the only one who had known anything about all of this…and now she was gone, replaced by this woman, Sue hesitated at calling it possessed, it made it sound so evil, and she didn’t think this woman was evil at all, just very scared, and very dead.

The team had finally left at about 3 am, they had questioned the young woman as much as possible, but she had spent much of her time in tears. The strange occurrences had at least stopped.

Sue walked quietly to the kitchen and turned on the coffee pot, Lucy would be up soon, she thought.

Jack and Bobby had both wanted to stay last night, but Sue and Lucy had bee adamant, that one guest was enough, after all she was Caitlin…in a sense, and Lurch was there, he had been very wary of the woman in Caitlin’s body.

Levi jumped up to alert her to a sound, she turned to see Caitlin/ Clara standing there

“someone is at the door” she said quietly, “Should I get it for you Miss?” she asked

Sue shook her head “No its ok, I’ll get it Clara” she said, realising form the way she had addressed her that it was Clara not Caitlin.

Sue crossed over and looked in the peep hole, she opened the door and smiled “Hi Jack” she told him, opening the door so that he could enter.

He crossed into the apartment, “I have breakfast” he told her giving her the box he carried, she sniffed and smiled, lifting the lid “Urmm fresh Bagels” she said “Would you like a coffee?” she asked him, Jack nodded looking past her to the woman in her living room “Good morning” he said gently not sure who she was supposed to be this morning

“good morning Sir” she said quietly, Jack smiled at her but sighed inwardly, it was obviously still Clara.

Jack followed Sue into the kitchen, greeting Lucy as she walked in, once everyone had coffee and were seated at the table enjoying breakfast he finally told them his plan
“I thought the best thing would be for Clara to stay here, while we try to figure out what is happening, I have already spoken to Myles and he will stay with Clara, so that she is not on her own. I thought Myles would be the best person, as he knew, ur knows Caitlin the best” he said to the three woman, “Is that ok?”

Soon Myles had arrived, and Lucy, Jack, Sue and Levi were all heading into the office, Bobby and Tara were already there. As they walked in Bobby smiled “Well if it isn’t the haunted house hostesses” he laughed, “that, my lovely Sheila’s, was a Halloween party I wont soon be forgetting” he told them, only half joking.
Tara stood up and crossed to the suspect board “ I did a search this morning on our Clara and on Charles Parker-Williams“, she pinned two old photos on the board, one of a darkly handsome man in an evening suit, the other of a young blond woman in a maids uniform at some kind of function, the room behind her was without a doubt Sue and Lucy’s apartment.

“It seems that young Clara was indeed a maid in the Parker-Williams household, but that on Halloween night 1944 she disappeared, it was assumed she had run off, but her friends and family claimed that Parker-Williams had killed her. It was quite a scandal back then, but nothing was ever proven. Parker-Williams was found dead three days later, no cause of death could be determined.”

Just then Garret walked in

Chapter 11

Ted walked over to the board and looked at it intently “What is this?” his voice rumbled around the room

Tara looked at them all nervously, “Ur its mine Ted, its some research I am doing on a family member and I wanted some input, but I will take it down. Sorry” she said nervously

“no don’t take it down, you may work on it for the morning, this afternoon you will be meeting with white collar and will be taking over a case they are working on. Jack has the details” he looked at Jack, “brief them then you may all continue with this till lunch” with that he walked out.

They all looked at each other, then Bobby looked up and smiled “I feel like we have been caught by the principle” he said Sue smiled at him, having seen what he said

“Something tells me you were at the principles office a lot!” she laughed

“Hey, you wound me, I only ever went to the principles office once” he said, a wounded look warring with his smile

“What? once a week?” Lucy laughed

Bobby hung his head down, as if hurt “you shock me” he looked up, his eyes sparkling in mischief “that you know me so well” he laughed. He looked at Jack, “But I bet our sweet Sue never went to the principles office” he said

“Then you would lose that bet” Sue told him haughtily. “I was on first name terms with the chair in his office”

With that she turned back to her desk and sat down, she looked up at the stunned faces of the team “Of course it was because I was a member of the student counsel” she laughed impishly, loving their expressions.

After the laughter had died down, Jack briefed the team on the case they would be getting that afternoon. Then they all got down to the serious business of ghost hunting.

Chapter 12

The morning progressed in a blur of brainstorming and Tara fact finding about Clara Johnson and Charles Parker-Williams.

Clara had left after a Halloween party held at Uncle Chuck’s as they nicknamed him, based on Tara’s white lie to Ted. She had never been heard of again, and none of her clothes had gone, she just simply vanished.

Uncle chuck, had been a cool customer, a bit of a jack the lad, with rumours of a nasty side to him. A previous maid had left his employ telling people that he had attacked her, but no charges had been pressed, and it had only ever been rumours.

Clara’s family had given a statement to a newspaper at the time, saying that she had been frightened of him, and had wanted to leave his employment. They had had no evidence or even suspicion that foul play had occurred, and the case had never gone any further.

They decided that they would speak to Clara tonight and find out what had gone on up to that night. They all went to lunch, and tried not to think of the events of last night, none were willing to bring up the events of last night, they were all still confused over it, and frightened by what had happened to Caitlin. Was it possible this was real or was it some elaborate hoax by Caitlin?

After Lunch they met with White collar, and officially took over the neo nazi case, all thoughts of Clara were pushed to the back of their minds, but they were not forgotten.

Chapter 13

Myles and Clara sat watching telly, he was amazed at her reaction to it. Myles was still not fully convinced that this could possibly be real, but if it wasn’t then Caitlin was a far better actress than he could ever have imagined. And Lurch’s reaction to the woman surprised him, he spent most of his time growling softly at her. And Myles knew how devoted the pair were to each other.

Clara as Myles was thinking of her had walked around the apartment, noting changes both to the apartment itself and to the era, her voice and mannerisms were more in keeping with a woman of the forties, and very much that of a maid of the era, rather than the strong willed woman he knew Caitlin to be. But this was just so unbelievable that he still had small doubts.

Myles looked at his watch, the team would be here soon. They had phoned earlier to tell him that they had some information on Clara and wished to talk to her later. He hadn’t mentioned this to her, wanting to catch her unawares, not giving her the opportunity to formulate answers.

He watched the woman, she looked like Caitlin and yet there was something inherently different…something in the face, the eyes that weren’t Caitlin at all. He sighed he was giving himself a headache he thought in annoyance.

Clara sat on the sofa pretending to watch the small television, she was so amazed, she had of course, seen televisions before, but these were so different, there was so many things on it, so many different channels. And every home had one these days. She thought about all of the other amazing things she had seen today, that miro thing, that cooked food in minutes, and that shiny little disk that had movies or music on it. There were so many amazing things here, but it was all so very different.

And as much as she loved discovering theses new things, she was very afraid

Allison, welcome back, know that you were missed.

Thanks for the two posts...it's picking right up where you left off. Will be interesting how Myles handles all this and in the end if he will view Catlain differently.

The story with Clara is REALLY interesting...great creativity. Anxious for the team to talk to her and hear about what she shares.

Chapter 14

The team arrived back at the apartment with pizza and beer in hand, as Bobby had pointed out there was no need for them all to go hungry. As if that was ever likely to happen with Bobby on the team.

Myles was relieved to see his friends and colleagues arrive, he would never admit it but he had found the day a strain on his nerves. It had been difficult to separate Caitlin and Clara, and it had been even harder to disbelieve what was happening as the day went on. The problem was Myles wasn’t really sure what was happening.

After the food had been eaten and everyone was as relaxed as they could be in the circumstances, Sue caught Jacks eye and he nodded.

“Clara, we discovered a few things today about you, and wondered if we could ask you some questions” she asked her gently, Sue felt the tension rise in the people around her. They were all strong people, had faced dangers and threats on many occasions, but this was so different, it was out of all of their experiences. This was really an area of the unknown.

“Yes ma’am, I will answer whatever I can” Clara asked in her gently subservient manner
Sue smiled gently “you don’t need to call me ma’am” she smiled at Clara “can you tell us what are the last things you remember from 1944?” Sue asked her kindly, her face soft and encouraging, her heart beating rapidly in fear of the whole situation.

“ This is just so strange, but I will help you in any way I can, so that I can go home. This age is very exciting but I want to return to my own life and live it with my family and friends.” she paused at the looks on the faces of the people gathered in the room, and she felt a chill engulf her, something was wrong.

“oh no? Please tell me what is wrong?” she asked her voice shaking in fear at their reactions.

She got no further as the room chilled to near freezing and the lights flickered. Clara screamed at the reflection she caught in the mirror.

But as suddenly as it had appeared it had vanished and the room returned to normal and the light stayed constant, Clara sat in the chair whimpering

Myles, Jack , Bobby and Tara had all reacted instinctive to the scream, pulling the others down to the ground, and pulling their weapons, but not seeing any threat they slowly rose and checked the room.

As soon as Jack released her from the ground, Sue moved to Clara and pulled her gently into her arms to comfort the woman. Above her head, eyes locked and confusion was shared, what had Clara seen?

Okay, Allison, I'm glad I read your posts in the morning...only problem is it's still dark but at least I know the light is coming.

I'm thinking the "bad" spirit showed up and I'm thinking that "bad" spirit is her old employer. Could be totally wrong but anxious for you to continue so I can find out.

Wow!

Chapter 15

Clara was hysterical, and after many attempts they had finally calmed her down, but the fear in her eyes remained, Sue sat with her and slowly she began to talk. .

“ I remember getting ready for the Halloween party, it was fancy dress, with the theme being great lovers through time. It was a to be a very grand affair. So many from Washington high society would be here. Mr Parker - Williams was in a state, as was his want in preparation for just such an event. We all tried to stay out of his way, but it wasn’t always possible. He had such a temper. But as soon as the guests started to arrive, he calmed down. The night went well, it was a roaring success and we, the staff were all looking forward to its end.

The last guests had departed, and we were clearing up, I thought Mr Parker-Williams had retired but as I made my way to his study to clear away any remains of the party, I heard noises from in there. They were strange sounds so I stood by the door for a moment listening. The last thing I remember is the door opening and Mr Parker-Williams standing there looking so angry. Then I found myself here with you.”

When She finished telling her story she looked around the room, her gaze straying to the mirror, she looked back at the group

“I died didn’t I?” she asked quietly

Clara knew she had her answer to why the team looked shocked at her wanting to return home, she had seen her own death in the mirror. She would never return to her life, she had no life. It was over, ending on Halloween 1944.

She stopped and looked around the room, she still shivered gently but Sue’s arm around her was a comfort, she knew that when they found out the truth she would have to leave, she had seen the truth in that split second in the mirror. She looked down at her hands. Hands that were not hers, but perhaps they could be. She smiled slightly.

Chapter 16

Clara continued to tell the team as much as she could, questions were asked and answered, but no real answers came forward, none of them knew how to deal with this situation. The one they needed was no longer here, but where was she?

Tara sat quietly watching Clara intently, somewhere in their must be Caitlin, and she would have the answers as to what was happening, they needed to get Caitlin to return….but how?

The night drew on getting later and later, but still no one had an answer. No one noticed the chill creeping into the air. Lurch and Levi stood and sniffed the air. And then they growled. Everyone went still and silent, looking at the pair of dogs, they stood shoulder to shoulder looking at the mirror above the fireplace. Their growls vicious and frightening, suddenly Lurch spun and turned for Clara, his body ready to pounce. Myles dived for the large dog just as Lurch dived for Clara, his teeth barred.

Myles grasped the dogs collar and pulled with all his strength, trying to hold back the large hound, but struggling, Bobby and Jack soon joined in and managed to subdue the dog. He lay under the combined weight of the three men growling at the woman who was not his friend and mistress.

Suddenly the room went cold and a man appeared before them all, Lurch fell silent along with everyone else in the room

The vision before them was unreal, he appeared to be there but not, almost translucent but with a very real quality to him, Tara gasped slightly, recognising him as Parker-Williams, his gaze spun to her and she felt frozen, the impact was so strong from just his eyes. His mouth moved silently, no words coming through, but clearly he was trying to speak, slowly the vision faded and he became nothing more than a shadow. Until even that was gone and once again the room was normal.

No one spoke, all eyes turned to Clara, assessing her reaction. She looked stunned and afraid but there was something else there too. Myles paused from his position on the floor, watching her intently. There was something wrong with the picture she presented there was something other that fear…almost triumphant in her eyes.

No one noticed Sue until she spoke “Help me, she is not ….help me” they all turned at her words, said more to herself than to them, sensing everyone’s gaze on her she looked up sheepishly “I think that is what he said” she told them all repeating it.

With all of them looking at Sue, they missed the look on Clara’s face.
