Chapter 16
Waking the following morning, arms still wrapped around each other they were more content than they had been since they met.
Getting a cab home while Sue showered, Jack showered and changed before ringing his parents.
‘You dating her yet Jack?’ his mom asked pointedly.
‘No…..’
‘Jackson, what is the matter with you…….. ? I take it you move a little quicker at work?’
‘Mom……….. we are not dating……….. we’re getting married……. 6 weeks….’
He guessed she’d dropped the phone judging by the clatter which rang in his ear.
‘Married………? Just how quick have you moved son…………..?’
‘Not that quick………. there is no point hanging around ………..’
He could feel himself blushing at the conversation; it wasn’t something he had ever considered discussing with his mom….....Hanging up after a long chat Jack headed back to the hospital.
‘Hey, how you doin?’
‘Ok…….. I can go home if I have someone with me………. your offer still open……..?’
‘Definitely, we can plan the wedding, buy the rings……………. pick up Levi……… but you put your feet up and rest……..‘
‘Yes Sir………’ she saluted him smartly before pulling him close for a kiss, the therapist had given her some exercises for her jaw but she figured this would be far more effective exercise and much more fun.
‘Finally………. after 4 years you’re showing me the respect I deserve......’ he mumbled as he came up for air.
‘Don’t get used to it Hudson……….’ She grinned at him, thankful that Luce had thought to go out and buy her some clothes and toiletries. Even now it would be a few more days before her apartment would be reopened.
Jack ran his hand gently through her hair, ‘thought it might have been cut short…… for the stitches’ he mumbled.
‘They cut some from underneath…….. but I need to visit my stylist, it’s a bit lopsided…….’
‘You could start a new fashion…………’ he whispered as one hand continued to work its way through her hair while the other cupped her chin.
‘The lopsided look……….. ? Could be a fashion hit……. maybe you should try it……’
‘Don’t think it would work on me Sue…….. you ready to leave?’
Arms wrapped around each other they left the hospital, collecting Levi before they headed to Jacks’.

‘Sue………. I want you to know that whatever you told Tara she hasn’t told me……other than Davis attacked you twice ….. if you want to tell me…….. I’ll listen…… if not that’s fine……. If you want to talk to someone else I really won’t mind……… and if you find that being with me, getting too close scares you………. then please tell me….. I’m more than happy to wait until we’re married for us to make love but if you ......’
‘Jack……… I want to hold you, to be held by you…….. I appreciate your words…….. I love you deeply and I will tell you soon…… right now though I’m tired……… hold me……… please……..’
They lay on his bed together, her head resting on his chest as he hugged her gently she soon fell asleep, waking a couple of hours later and pouring out her experiences and her fears, as Jack held her and wept with her.
‘Jack…….. I’m sorry……. I wanted to ring you but I was so ashamed……….. I did everything wrong……….’
‘Sue, sweetheart you didn’t……… the important thing is that you are safe and we’re together and I don’t plan on letting you out of my sight………… I love you…….’ he whispered, his voice choked with emotion.
‘Jack……… I need to do my exercises………?’
‘Huh………? What exercises?’
‘Jaw exercises………. I have to open and close my mouth and keep it all working………a bit like a goldfish…… but I know a much better way of gently exercising it………….’ She grinned at him and he finally caught on, pressing his lips gently against hers, leaving her to take the lead before they came up for some much needed air.
‘So….. you reckon your jaw needs much exercise?’ he whispered, aware of his heart pounding wildly.
‘Lots and lots of exercise…………’ she whispered huskily.
‘Sounds like a plan Sue……… I always do what the doctor tells me………’ he grinned at her and she got hopelessly lost in his eyes and his smile.
‘That so Hudson……….? And what did he say about your bruises?’
‘Not a lot, take the pain meds and take a week off work………….’
‘Jack…….. I’m sorry for everything you’ve been through……… is your body as sore as your face?’
Jack nodded quietly; if anything it was worse but he wasn’t gonna tell her that if she was feeling guilty, it would make her feel worse.
‘It wasn’t your fault, Ted and I will go see the chief in a couple of days but for now you and I aren’t going anywhere…………. I think your jaw needs a bit more exercise………..’
As Sue slipped her hands under his t-shirt and ran them gently over his muscled back and torso she felt him groan, but it wasn’t a groan of pleasure.
Pulling away she ordered him to remove the t-shirt, ‘Oh God Jack……. I am so sorry………’ tears filled her eyes as she stared at the mass of fading bruises which covered him.
‘Do you know who did this………?’ she whispered.
‘Officers I would reckon, prisoners would have left me with a few broken bones, but these were well aimed, to bruise without breaking anything……..’
Jack swallowed hard, he’d tried not to let the pain show but Sue knew him too well to be fooled.
‘I’m sorry Jack……… ‘
‘It’s not your fault, you didn’t do this……..’
‘No……… but there were so many times when I thought you wanted to ask me out or tell me you wanted more than friendship and I didn’t give you the chance……….. I zinged you or interrupted, gave you no sign that it was what I wanted…….. and I know I hurt you so badly ………… and that is my fault….. the undercover marriage, that kiss, the chance encounter, what should have been my last day………and for all of that I really am sorry………’
Jack silenced her effectively with a kiss which threatened to give her jaw enough exercise for a year.
Snuggling up together they fell asleep again as the trauma of the last few days began to subside.

Now that was romantic. I wish I could exercise my jaw that way. Keep it up.

Cath, I just read your story from the start to your last post!! What a powerful tale!! You had me very worried many times, but I'm so happy everything is turning out so well!! I love the way you weave proverbs and sayings all through your story!!!
I really like the way Sue does the exercises that her doctor gave her!! And, they both need to give each other tender loving care after all they've been through!!!

I’m posting this because I’ve written another challenge story and realised with horror I’m going to run out of time if I don’t start posting soon.
I based the Chief on Mannion from ‘The District’, another show I love watching.
Chapter 17
Returning to work the following week, Jack tied Sue to her desk until she received the all-clear from the bureau docs to go back into the field.
Sue had reluctantly returned to her apartment once it was reopened, having become very comfortable sharing with Jack….. falling asleep in his arms had been warm and comforting…….. the memories of the attack had haunted her for a couple of days and Tara had offered her the use of her guest room.
Sue had refused stating that if she didn’t stay in her apartment Davis would have beaten her in more ways than one and she was made of sterner stuff than that.
Jack had listened quietly, immensely proud of the incredible woman who was soon to become his wife
Together with Ted they accepted an apology from Manwaring regarding Giles and Nicholls who were demoted to beat officers, after Jack asked that they weren’t kicked off the force.
‘As Detectives they suck but maybe this will make them better cops……..’ he explained when Myles asked why they were still working, ‘and let’s face it we need all the law enforcement we can get……… the chief will supervise them closely and if they choose to resign that is down to them………’
Returning to his desk Jack smiled as he remembered sitting outside the chiefs’ office as he tore more than one strip off Giles and Nicholls. Up till then he’d thought Ted was a scary boss but he was a pussycat compared to Manwaring.
‘I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WERE SO INCOMPETENT……YOU DIDN’T LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE…….. YOU DIDN’T LISTEN TO HIS STATEMENT OR THE STATEMENT OF HIS WORK MATES……… AND EVEN WORSE YOU DIDN’T LISTEN TO THE STATEMENT MADE BY THE VICTIM……. YOU WERE LOOKING FOR A BIG, IMPRESSIVE BUST AND WHAT BIGGER THAN AN FBI AGENT………... DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH DAMAGE YOU’VE DONE TO THE FORCE………..,? HOW MUCH DAMAGE YOU’VE DONE TO THE WORKING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN METRO AND THE BUREAU………. YOU’RE DARN LUCKY AGENT HUDSON HASN’T DEMANDED YOUR JOBS……….. AND YOUR HEADS ON A SILVER PLATE………. ‘Jack hun…….. we need to go……….’
‘You sure…………..?’ he asked quietly.
‘Yeah…….. but you have time to shower and shave………. can’t have daddy looking a mess…………mind if I join you……………?’
Six hours later Jack held their newborn son in his arms as Sue gazed at the two of them tears filling her eyes. Joshua Robert Hudson had arrived, a change to their lives that had been welcomed with open arms and prayers of thanks.

Beautiful - I was sooooooooscared for Jack if he had had to go back in prison until eveything was sorted out - bu thankfully it all came together at the right time and the ending ----- aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

poor sue getting abused like that..glad levi bit him! and jack instinctively knew something wasn't right with her.
ugh thos stupid cops...jack so had a right to take their jobs/sue for all the abuse he had to deal with cuz they didn't do their jobs right. sue too for having to deal with the emotional crap they laid on her for not listening to her statement.
