The course of true love never did run smooth

As Sue looked around the crowded bar, she had the familiar urge to run and hide, wishing she could simply disappear. She should have gone with her instincts and avoided this situation like she normally did, but she knew that it was too late now. Feeling a hand on her wrist, she looked up quickly, her heart beating erratically as she became enveloped in his gaze. “Can I get you something else to drink?”

The light was just enough so that she could read his lips, but she still had a difficult time focusing when there was so much going on around them, not to mention the distracting vibrations coming from the loud music that reverberated throughout the bar. “No thanks…I’m ready to call it a night.”

“At least dance with me first?”

It wasn’t a question, and even if it had been, she felt powerless to refuse with those intoxicating brown eyes of his focused on her. They reminded her of velvety smooth chocolate, and just as she was with chocolate, she was a sucker for Jack’s eyes. Giving a nod and a resigned sigh, she allowed him to lead her out to the dance floor. He wasted no time in pulling her close, chasing away her anxieties in the process, and she could feel the heat of his body in spite of the layers of fabric between them. A delicious shiver shook her as his hands skimmed up and down her back, sending her imagination soaring to all the possibilities those hands presented. Closing her eyes, she surrendered herself to him, letting him lead her wherever he wished to go.

Her senses grew more heightened with each passing moment and when she felt the searing caress of his lips against hers, she melted into him, closing any distance that remained between them. Parting her lips as his tongue demanded entrance, she soon felt her knees buckle as his tongue swept her mouth, sweeping her into oblivion. Grateful for the strength of his hands holding her firmly against him, she reveled in the feeling of wanton recklessness she felt in his arms, unlike anything she’d ever felt with any other man. Not that she’d ever let any other man get this close.

When the kiss ended and their eyes met, it no longer mattered that it was too dark to properly read his lips. The look on his face and in his eyes, and the way he was holding her told her more than enough and suddenly her desire to leave the bar was even more overpowering than before, but for an entirely different reason. “Are you ready to go now?” she asked him, feeling his grip on her tighten. There was barely time to let Lucy, Bobby and the rest of the team know they were leaving before he’d pulled her out into the warm night air. What the cab ride home lacked in conversation, it made up for with smoldering gazes and soft touches, both of them reigning in the undisguised desire that threatened to consume them.

I really appreciate your replies---thank you! This is actually a very short piece---only a few posts to it. Nothing but fuzzies ahead...

“It’s been a long time since I’ve picked up a beautiful woman at the bar,” he told her, a predatory look in his eyes that was a sharp contrast to his cheeky smile. The cab driver was just pulling away, leaving them standing in front of the apartment building.

“Some things never change, huh?” she replied with a shake of her head. Grinning at her, he didn’t say another word, placing his hands on her hips and guiding her to lean against the wall of the building before moving closer to her.

Closing her eyes in anticipation of his kiss, she was surprised when instead she felt him softly nuzzle her neck before pulling away again. “What is it?” she asked him, her eyes opening to find him close, yet not close enough that they were touching.

“I’m sorry about tonight,” he said, placing his hands on the wall on either side of her, effectively boxing her in. “I knew you were uncomfortable and I should have gotten you out of there sooner...”

“Jack,” she murmured, reaching out a hand to stroke the side of his face, its texture rough with stubble. “I’m a big girl. I didn’t have to agree to go along with the group’s plans, but I did anyway. It’s okay, though…now I’m here with you. Right where I want to be,” she finished with a smile.

His serious expression turned into a happy one as he leaned closer, his lips skimming her forehead before moving to each cheek, even placing a kiss on the end of her nose, all the while avoiding her lips until she was craving the feel and taste of him.

Desperation fueling her actions, she grasped him by the lapels, pulling him closer and hoping that he wouldn’t make her wait any longer for him to kiss her. Finally he relented, pressing her against the wall of the building, his passionate kisses stealing her breath away, along with all sense of reason.

Alexandra - I said it before, I'll say it again - you are my haven for Jack/Sue fuzzies. Tina, over in WIP, has me feeling sorry for Myles so I'm glad I had your story to run to to straighten me out! Whew!

Jack and Sue certainly seem comfortable with one another. I can't wait to find out the extent of their relationship.

The trip up to the apartment was a long one, mainly because they’d had to share the elevator with an elderly neighbor who kept giving them knowing smiles as she took in their undoubtedly tussled appearances. Once inside, they made sure Levi was suitably distracted with some food before making their way to the bedroom and closing the door. Her breath caught in her throat at the look in his eyes as he turned to face her, reaching for her, and she willingly went into his arms, taking the time to remove his shirt before their lips met. His hands moved to her waist, sliding her skirt from her hips while she rid him of his pants, a jolt of pleasure quaking through her when he caught her against him, letting her feel the full effect of his desire for her, clearly evident through the scant clothing that remained between them.

Aware there was a slight tremor in her fingers as she unbuttoned her blouse, she smiled at him as he watched her, wondering if he had any idea of the magnitude of the feelings he incited within her. They were such that she couldn’t have put them into words even if she’d tried. His hands seemed to be everywhere at once, as they stood wrapped in each other, awakening feelings in her both familiar and new at the same time, but she still ached for more as he slowly built up the desire within her. As if sensing her need, he picked her up, his lips never leaving hers as he moved her onto the bed. It didn’t take long to remove the remaining barriers, and curling one leg around him as he pulled her into his arms, she dimly wondered if it would always be like this for them, with each time holding just as much passion and magic as the first time.

Gazing into his eyes as they made love, it felt as though she was looking straight into his soul---a view that belonged to her alone. The rings they both wore testified to that, and as she lay in his arms in the afterglow of their lovemaking, she smiled softly. The first six months of their marriage had been blissfully happy, their future full of hope. She wondered, not for the first time, how it could have possibly taken them so long to get to this place. Then again, as her grandmother had once advised her, the course of true love never did run smooth, warning her granddaughter not to expect to find a fairy tale romance, even when she did find the right man. Sue had known her Grandma well enough to know that she wasn’t being pessimistic, simply realistic. She’d encouraged Sue not to give up hope that she would someday find that man who, while not perfect, would be perfect for her. She and Jack hadn’t been without their hurdles to overcome, but the important thing was that they hadn’t let it stop them, and lying in the comfort of his embrace, it felt as though all of her dreams had come true.
