I’m not sure this is comedy, more very vaguely humorous in some places, no angst I promise but quite a few fuzzies.

Chapter 1

Tuesday lunchtime

‘This is driving me crazy’ Myles exclaimed as Jack and Sue headed out for lunch and to walk Levi.

‘What’s driving you crazy?’ Luce asked.

‘You don’t need driving crazy…….. you’re well past crazy and into off the planet, Harvard.’

Myles gave Bobby a withering look.

‘Thanks for that observation Koala Boy……….. I am referring to our two star-crossed lovers, out lovesick teenagers, our very own Romeo and Juliet………’

Bobby looked at him in confusion, ‘Romeo and Juliet………..? Oh you mean Rozzer and Jules……… I hope not, Harvard……. Didn’t they both top themselves……..?’

Myles cast him another withering look, ‘I should have guessed you’d desecrate one of the worlds’ greatest plays as well as the English language…….. but I guess that’s not surprising when your ancestors were convicts………..’

Bobby flashed him an evil glare muttering under his breath, ‘better that than pompous idiots………..’

‘OK before you two come to blows, exactly what is your point, Myles?’ D asked, giving both men his ‘don’t mess with me’ look which had both of them sitting quietly in their seats.

‘My point is that it’s been three weeks since Sue decided to stay and he has done nothing……. they still stare at each other across their desks, find every possible excuse to spend time together, blush like mad if we catch them staring and still they aren’t together…….. our brave and fearless leader does nothing…… and it’s driving me crazy………’

‘Actually Myles I think he was trying to do something one morning but they were interrupted………..’ Tara commented, having overheard Sue talking to Levi one morning in the pen.

‘Well I think it’s about time we did something……. Took matters into our own hands……… did a little matchmaking……….’ Myles continued, still embarrassed at having interrupted that morning.

‘Matchmaking?’ Lucy shouted, ‘I’ve been trying since she arrived and I’ve got nowhere……. What makes you think you can do better Leland?’

‘Matchmaking huh? That would explain why you encouraged her to date Scott, David and drop-kick Capono……… You may not have noticed but Jack hasn’t dated since Sue arrived and yet you’ve encouraged her to date other men and then you tell us you’ve been matchmaking them……… it’s no wonder he hasn’t made a move…… probably doesn’t think she’s interested………. Still as Shakespeare once said ‘the course of true love never did run smooth……….’’

‘Actually he doesn’t’ Bobby remarked as Luce hung her head knowing Myles was right, she’d hoped Jack would make a move when he saw Sue dating but instead he had left her alone.

‘You’ve spoken to him?’ Myles asked.

Bobby nodded, ‘couple of days after she decided to stay…….. he admitted he was in love which is why he hasn’t dated anyone else…… but he doesn’t think she loves him, or ever would………’

‘Good………. Luce………, is Sue interested in Jack?’

‘Very interested Myles……..’ Luce replied.

‘Excellent……. now all we need to do is set them up…….’ Myles clapped his hands together.

‘We need a plan Myles………. a foolproof plan’ Bobby commented, reflecting on how insufferable Myles would be if this worked.

‘Myles Leland the 3rd AKA ‘Renaissance Man’ has a plan……… we set them up on a blind date…………’

‘Jack wouldn’t go for it, Harvard………….. he hates things like that…’

‘We don’t tell him it’s a blind date…….. we arrange a guys night out, the ladies arrange a girls night…… same time, same place but the only two people who turn up are Jack and Sue………….. foolproof…… absolutely foolproof’ Myles looked around the pen and beamed at the team.

‘Myles, what about the no-dating policy……… that’s a big issue for both of them……’ Tara questioned.

‘No problemo……….. they’ve acted like lovesick teenagers for three years and it’s never been an issue for any of us…and we tell Ted that we want them to stay in the team…. and who knows, their work rate might increase if they quit mooning over each other all day………’

‘So……. tomorrow night then……. 7.30 ……… at McGinteys…….’ D suggested.

Everyone nodded, ‘let’s hope it doesn’t turn into a ‘Greek Tragedy’ Luce muttered.

‘Could turn out to be ‘Much Ado about Nothing’’ Tara commented.

‘Or a ‘Comedy of Errors’’ Bobby smirked.

Myles gave a theatrical sigh and threw his file over his shoulder before sitting at his desk and holding his head in his hands. Some days he wondered if he was the only sane member of the team.

It's definitely a comedy! Loved how you pulled in Shakespeare and this: Poor, long suffering Myles!

OK if I only post one chapter a day i will be out of time so here goes a little more

Chapter 2

Tuesday afternoon

‘Sue……….. we thought we could go for dinner and a catch up tomorrow night….. you in?’ Luce asked as she and Tara perched on her desk.

‘Tomorrow………..? But that’s a school night’ she protested.

‘Donna’s free that night……. the only night, we haven’t talked in ages’. Tara thought quickly.

‘Ok………’ Sue sighed; she needed a night out with the girls.

‘I’ll be at Grams…….. but if you get a cab we can car pool home……….’ Luce explained, since they had chosen the place that was the furthest from Sues’ so Jack had to drive her home.

‘Sure’, Sue put her head down to concentrate on her report for ‘Randy the Ridiculous’.

‘Jack, mate……. we thought we’d have a guys’ night tomorrow…….. dinner then a game of pool……. you up for it?’ D asked as Jack settled himself at his desk.

‘Yeah, sure’ Jack shrugged, it had been a while since they guys had been out together.

Chapter 3

Two days later. - Thursday morning

Sue was deep in thought as Luce and Tara entered the pen.

Luce touched her gently on the arm, ‘Hi……….. how did last night go, Sue?’

‘OK………. but I wish you’d told me…… not just left me sitting there……… it was a shock when he walked in……… I had no idea……..’

‘So………. what did you do……..?’ Tara asked, thrilled that things had gone well.

‘He came over, said hello, told me he should have been meeting friends who hadn’t turned up……. I explained I should have been meeting friends who hadn’t arrived, he asked if he could join me……. we had dinner together, walked Levi then he took me home and we’re going out for lunch……….’

Sue lowered her head and was oblivious to Tara and Luce high-fiving.

Chapter 4

Jack looked up as Bobby entered the pen.

‘Crash………. sorry about last night….. did you get the message…….?’

‘Last night?’ Bobby asked, more than a little confused.

‘Yeah…….. you did get the message, didn’t you…….?’

‘Errrrrrr, no…… guess whoever you spoke to didn’t pass it on……. So what happened, you missed a good night…….?’

‘Something came up………. Sorry, maybe tonight’ Jack suggested.

‘Sure…… game of pool, couple of beers?’ As soon as he could, Bobby ambled over to Luce.

‘Could I have a word please………? In private’

Cath, this is going to be fun!! It sounds to me as if Jack might be playing a game of his own???

Uh oh.......

So, let's recap...either Jack and Sue figured it out and are having a little fun with their friends. Or Jack really didn't make it and Sue met someone else at the restaurant....... This could be right down to :hide:

Great story - I am going with Jack and Sue figured it out and are having fun with the rest of the team, this is because I dont think Cath would not have Jack and Sue together - well at least I hope she wouldnt.

This is great, except for one thing. Don't you dare let anyone other than Jack have been on that blind date. I am now going to place my hands in my pocket as my thoughts are going wild. I will keep them there until the urge to think passes.

Thursday morning cont.

‘What did Sue say about last night………? Was she mad that she was left alone?’

‘No……… she said they had dinner………’

‘Not with Jack she didn’t…….. he couldn’t make it, ‘something came up’’.

‘WHAT???????????’ Luce squealed.

‘Yup……… and Harvard said it was foolproof………’ Bobby muttered darkly.

‘OK……. We need a meeting, now……….. you stay here, I’ll go round up the others’.

Luce left him standing in the Conference room and emailed the others.

From Lucy, Bobby.

URGENT MEETING

CONFERENCE ROOM

NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meeting together Bobby and Luce filled them in.

‘This is like all those great romantic stories,’ Tara sighed dreamily. ‘Wrong person, wrong place, star-crossed lovers, tragedy, romance, love….’

‘Suicide, death…………’ Bobby interjected a broad grin on his face.

‘Myles……. I thought you said this was foolproof’ D scolded him.

‘It was………. it is……… but the course of true love never did run smooth and you can’t factor in the bumbling idiot who doesn’t turn up…….. did he say what came up?’

Bobby shook his head, in his haste he hadn’t thought to ask.

‘Go find out koala Boy…….. we need to know what we’re dealing with’

As Bobby ambled out the others cast Myles a dirty look which he chose to ignore.

I'm still hoping Jack and Sue are getting them back big time.

‘Ah, Sue……..’

‘Hi………’

‘Just wondering, since I was passing if you were ready for lunch……’

‘Sure, let me grab my purse…….’

Calling Levi she headed out the door.

‘Jack, mate’ Bobby called down the corridor as Jack exited the rest rooms.

‘Crash, what can I do for you?’

‘Just curious……. What came up last night?’

Jack swallowed hard.

‘Allie……….. she’s relocating to DC, called by to ask for help locating a place to live……. there’s an empty apartment in my block so we had a look…….. it was late when she headed back to the hotel………..’

‘So………. you OK for tonight or is she still around?’

‘No, I’m free……. She’s heading back for New York this afternoon, she moves down in two weeks………’

‘Excellent, I’ll see you later…….’

Bobby headed back to the team as Jack shook his head in confusion and reached the pen in time to watch Sue heading for lunch.

As Bobby updated them they looked expectantly at Myles.

‘Luce, go find out who Sue had dinner with, then we regroup at 15.00 to give me time to come up with a plan……….’

Luce strode towards the pen and stopped suddenly at the door when she realised Sue was missing.

‘Jack………. where’s Sue?’

‘Huh……..?’ Jack slowly lifted his head from the file he had been engrossed with.

‘I asked where Sue was……….’

‘At lunch………..’

‘And you’re not with her?’

‘Obviously not…… since I’m here and she isn’t……….you know Luce, you’re very good at this matchmaking thing………. I’m impressed, but I think you should have told her, not just left her sitting there alone…….that was mean……’

‘You don’t mind?’

‘Sue is a grown woman……… she can date who she likes……….’

‘Who did she go to lunch with, Jack?’ Luce almost shouted at him.

‘You should know…….. you set her up……..’

‘Whoever it was, it wasn’t them I was trying to set her up with….. we were trying to set her up with……….’

‘Ahhhhhhhh…… it was a team effort was it………? Or just you and Tara?’

‘Us………. All of us’ Luce confessed.

‘Haven’t you learned by now not to meddle……….? If things are going to happen they will………..’

‘Who did she go to lunch with Jack?’ Luce asked through gritted teeth, close to whacking Jack around the head.

‘Randy………………’

‘Oh no, Oh heck…….. this can’t be happening’

Luce fled out of the pen as Jack returned his attention to the file.
