2006 Christmas and Winter Challenge

The Holidays... what a wonderful time for favorite movies! It also happens to be one of Hollywood's biggest release times for movies of the year! Since so many of you enjoyed the Summer Blockbuster 2006, we thought it would be fun to use a similar idea and take six movie titles from this time of year. You are to put your own twist on them. This Sue Thomas F.B.Eye challenge is another original challenge; each entire story will be the author's own work. The movie isn't your guide... just use the title and let your muse interpret it.

You are welcome to respond to any of the themes you wish – Here are the titles from which you can choose:

Option 1: It's A Wonderful Life
Option 2: The Polar Express
Option 3: Miracle on 34th Street
Option 4: Holiday Inn
Option 5: Die Hard
Option 6: A Christmas Carol

The stories will be judged by the readers within the following categories:

1. Best Drama
2. Best Comedy
3. Best Mystery
4. Best Action
5. Best Romance (J/S Pairing)
6. Best Romance (Other Pairing)
7. Best Themed Story (one award for each title)
8. Best Original Character
9. Best Short Story (5,000 words or less)
10. Best New Writer*
11. Best Sensual Story.

* To qualify as a New Writer, you must have no previous works on the board at the time of posting.

The Challenge opens immediately and runs through Jan 4, at midnight in your location. To enter, simply select the theme option you are going to write (1 – 6) and place your name in the title (for example: A Christmas Carol - Starbuck). Don’t forget to include your rating (G, PG, PG13, PG17) in the description line!

You are welcome to respond to any of the themes you wish – BUT you MUST complete each entry BEFORE you can begin another. And you can use each theme only once.

It’s time to start writing.gif and let the challenge begin!! yay.gif

P.S. At the close of the challenge, we will give instruction on how to cast your ballot. And remember, there is one ballot allowed per member.

theatrenut86
Is there a word limit? I have never done a challenge, but I know some have had word limits in the past.

Each theme may only be used once per author. smile.gif

Yes, an author can enter multiple times, but only one ongoing story at a time.

The only limit we have is for the category of Best Short Story; in that category, the limit is 5,000 words.

This board is a community of so many individuals - it's a pleasure to use this space to show off member talent's where possible! Hence the reason for recipes (for those who have a talent with a dish or two... or more), blogs, song-writing area, writing corner, non-fiction and so forth. The board is also a labor of love, since it costs time and effort and yields no revenue. It is what you, the members add that makes the difference in what it is...

We also have our links for those creating their own sites as places to show their work - musicians, directors, and so forth. Anyone trying to express their creativity and is connected to the shows we follow or the writing we enjoy may submit their link for consideration.

If you have a talent you wish to share... and you don't see an outlet - let us know and we will try to accomodate.

Thank you again Sue&Jack... you have an amazing talent!

I know I have asked this on several challenges but I want to make sure that it is still okay to post an AU story in the christmas challenge. Sorry to ask everytime I want to write AU.
TinaLynne
No need to be sorry. Unless we specify otherwise in the challenge guidelines we definitely allow AU stories. smile.gif
Rosa17
Thank you I thught it was better to check smile.gif
JesusRocks
sorry, but what's an AU story?
justme_jp3
AU = Alternate Universe
nanajo
I have a short story, but one of the cast is portrayed a little out of character for a brief time (something they normally wouldn't do). It is difficult to write it this way, but it is needed for the story. What do you think? Hope this question makes sense.
justme_jp3
That's fine. If, by 'out of character', you mean AU (Alternate Universe), just note that in the description line after your rating. Otherwise, give it a go! smile.gif
nanajo
Thanks for the info. I think I understand AU, so I'll go ahead without it.

This might be a silly question, but this is the first time I've read through a challenge and I was wondering....how do the readers go about voting? Thanks.
justme_jp3
The voting system is not yet ready. When it is, we will post a link and instructions. Thanks for your patience!
