I am waiting with baited breath here, Ails....what is she going to find? What will the team be like if they never had Sue in their lives? Myles alone has me shuddering...and Jack -- I don't even want to contemplate who he is with.

Great story, we know how many lives Sue touched when she met Jack, but I'm sure she doesn't realise it so this is a great way to show her.

The other way is also true, how many of her friends lives have been changed for the better since she met Jack. None of the cases involving her friends would have happened, they wouldn't have gotten the closure they needed.

The Bullpen seemed the same yet different. The same old cabinets and same old desks but despite it being December the 23rd there was little in way of decorations, a few trigs of holly and some old tinsel was all that it had. Her eyes instantly fell onto that of Lucy who was busy sitting behind her desk.

“Lucy!” said Sue happy at seeing a familiar face and dashing over to her side.

“She seems okay,” noted Sue to Clarence.

“Well Lucy is still the rotor but she is back living with her Grams simply because she couldn’t avoid the rent anyway without a room mate and she couldn’t find anyone suitable.”

“That’s not too bad, her Grams and Lucy are really close.”

“True, it doesn’t seem that bad but it was not where she hoped to be at the age of 30.”

“She is not the only one,” commented Sue.

Clarence watched her as she walked around. “Where is everyone?” she asked stopping at Jack’s desk, something felt wrong with it.

“Lunch. You okay?”

“Jack desk it seems different, out of sorts.”

“There is a reason for that but that can wait here comes the rest of the team.”


Sue turned to face them and watched as a sullen Myles walked through the doors followed by a dishevelled Bobby with a face lined with worry and stress and behind him came a tired looking Dimitrius followed quickly by three unknowns. Sue walked over to the door and stared down the empty hallway.

“Where is Jack and Tara and who are these guys?” she asked motioning to the three men she did not know the name of.

“Those three men are Joe Callan, Dave Watson and Ilysten Tolken and are there are field agents.”

“What’s going on?” asked Sue with a panicky voice.

“Let’s go and visit Tara!”

“Tar doesn’t work here?”

“Not anymore!” And with that Clarence took her arm and in a mere second there where away…

I had never even thought about this, but it's fantastic ickleails!!!

“Where are we?”

“In the computer crime pen. Over there” he said pointing over to his left. Sue followed his finger and saw a sharply dressed Tara who stood up at the time and with that Sue noted her rather round bump.

“Tara pregnant” announced Sue.

“Yes she is.”

“Is she married?” grinned Sue.

“Yes.”

“That is wonderful. I know just how much Tara wanted this. This is good.”

“Sue you are a very perceptive person.”

“Well I believe so”

“Then look closer. Look into the eyes and into Tara soul. Go on” he urged Sue forward.

Sue walked over to her friend and crouched down beside the desk and stared up into Tara eyes. Instead of seeing the familiar brightness that would sparkle out of the dark greenly/ brown eyes she saw sadness and despair and a hint of hopelessness. Sue tried to reach out and touch her arms but her hand slipped right through the skin and the desk below causing Sue to fall back onto the floor.

“Remember we can’t physically touch them”

“What’s the matter?” begged Sue struggling to her feet. “Why does Tara look so sad and empty”?

“Tara, indeed got married to a man called Malcolm but he was not her soul mate. In fact he has turned out to be a verbally abusive adulterous husband but Tara believes firmly in the vows she made and now she is worried about bringing a new life into her unhappy one.”

“Oh no what about her friends?”

“Tara has none Malcolm made sure of that.”

“Lucy, Bobby, Jack, D, Myles.”

“Sorry, no. Tara is all alone and the team she works with here are not into personal relationships out with work or in fact getting overly friendly at work. She may have everything she dreamed, marriage, family but it has turned into a nightmare.”

Sue hugged herself. “If Bobby knew he would knock this Malcolm head off his shoulder.”

“Bobby has his own worries.”

“Pardon! What?”

“Shall we go and visit Bobby”

“Yes please and then Jack”

“We’ll see”

Sue gave him a strange look as they’re floated up together thru floors until there were back in the bullpen.

why do i have a feeling that jack isn't around anymore...that he....o god i can't believe i'm saying this but.........died

It's amazing how much Sue influenced the people around her without even realizing it.

Loving this, Ails - as painful as it is to see the characters we love this way, you're writing it so poignantly.

This is one juicey story.

“He looks so tired,” commented Sue as she walked over to Bobby. His normally joyful face was heavy with strain and he looked so much older than his years. His suit looked old and his tie somewhat ragged, not his usual fun but neat appearance. His hair was longer and rather unkempt, bags hung low under his dull eyes.

Sue looked over at Clarence begging for an explanation, some sort of answer.

Clarence walked over to Sue side and said facing her. “You know about Bobby secret?”

“Yes, his gambling addiction, but he is clean”

“In your world and time but in this he is an addict and his career is on the verge of ruin. His debt is huge and Jack is not here to bail him out like before, in fact like Tara Bobby is alone apart from his gambling buddies.”

“No…Where is Jack?”

“Later”

“No now…”Sue demanded.

“No later, you need to see the others first before you can see Jack. I know it is hard but this is the best way.” Clarence said firmly.

“What about Myles and D surely if they knew then they would help!”

“But they don’t know and that family feeling that you have with your team mates doesn’t exacting exist here.”

Sue looked over at D who was busy behind his desk with the phone clamped to his phone.

“What is going on with D?”

“D and Donna are on a trial separation due to the stress of work and the lost of their baby which neither fully recovered from.”

“But they are perfect for each other” said Sue walking over to D.

“True but they have lost sight of what is important.”

“That had nothing to do with me, why are they like this here and not in my world.”

“You don’t give yourself enough credit. Your passion for life and your faith in God poured over and affected the lives of all of those who surrounded you. Your hope and
Faith was infectious for the team and you never realised that.”

Sue looked around tears burning in her eyes.

“Would you like to know about Myles?” asked Clarence softly and tenderly.

Sue nodded as she walked over to the slender Bostonian and examined his surly face and moody expression.

“Myles looks just like how I meet him, grumpy and way too serious. They none of that light that were in him.”

“Sue with you coming to the team and giving Myles respect despite his behaviour and attitude and general lack of respect for you, you helped to change him. You influenced his behaviour and attitudes. No longer was he trapped in his high-class world that he neither fitted in nor truly belonged to due to his job but you helped him to express who he really was and to find that person for himself. Your love made him realised that he was loveable.”

“Really” she said somewhat unconvinced.

“Really”

“I don’t like it here, I want to go home.”

“Sorry we can’t not yet anyway, you need to see this thing thru- right to the very end.”

“But I don’t think I can” she said pleading as hot tears dripped down her face.

Clarence held her hand and gently stroked it, “Sue they is still some people you need to see and they is also Jack.”

“Jack, I need Jack,” she said crying openly now.

“And if things stay on course then you will but for now you need to be strong.”

Sue nodded and gripped his hand.

“Let’s leave this place and go and see some other people you impacted on.”

You're evil! Do you know that, don't you? We were so sad for Tara and now I'm almost crying for Bobby, D and even Myles! And you're keeping Jack for last! I'm sure now we'll see the alternate lives of Charlie, Troy and Amanda. I'm almost scared to know about them...
I don't think I want to know what happened to Jack at this point... If he's not helping Bobby it means that something very awful happened...If I keep thinking about this I'll

it would appear that Ails has also remembered the situation where it was important that Jack knows Levi....

Poor Tara. How'd she end up leaving the team though? Who is this Malcolm guy and why would she leave the team she was already on before Sue was there?

Bobby speaks loudly to life without Jack... **sniff** Hmph. probably has that expensive dingbat around always telling him to spend more money on her too....

They all have such terrible lives ... how am I supposed to go to bed and have sweet dreams???

Well --- piffle -- and you're leaving us hanging about Jack. What about Charlie? Amanda? Oh - Helga -- Troy...there's so many people Sue has touched. This is great Ails -- as long as I know there's a happy ending in here somehwere.

In a flurry of snow they landed amongst snow out of the sidewalk. Sue scanned the area around her and instantly recognised it but once again it was different from what she was used to.

“This is Charlie’s,” she said looking at Clarence. “But it’s not now” she said taking note of the fancy name above the garage. “What happened?”

“Well you where not around to stop the take over by those crooks and Charlie had to sell up.”

“Then what about Troy?” Sue asked in earnest.

“Troy is in prison he was never reformed.”

“Prison!” she replied shaking her head in sorrow as several tears for her dear friends slid down her cheek as she sat down on the low wall beside her as the snowflakes floated down around her.

Clarence crouched down in front of Sue and wiped a tear off her cheek. “Sue your life and your compassion reached out to so many and it is humble to see how you remained firmly on the ground. God sent you here, at the right time and to the right place. God always has a plan and purpose for his children. I mean Jesus came and saved us so of course he hasn’t forgotten you He loves you and he still has a purpose for you in your life not this one but in your true life. You need to put your trust in Him and hold firm to your faith. Things may be hard and the road may be bumpy at times but God always has you safely in His hands. You need to keep going and follow your heart. One way that God speaks to you directly is thru your heart and also thru your friends. Listen and follow.”

Sue nodded as she hugged Clarence. She clung to him as she allowed her heart to pour, “please Clarence take me to Jack, I need to see Jack.”

“If you desire,” he whispered into her hair known that she would not hear his words but instead she would know his heart and in a swirl of white and silver there where off again to a place that Sue never expected….

Oh, wow! I hadn't thought about Charlie's gas station or Troy still being in prison... Ails, you are writing this story with such thought and care. I'm loving it - even though it's hard to see our dear friends in such shape without Sue. But I know that she will learn from this experience - and hopefully all of us will share in her lesson and realize that we are here for a purpose, even when that purpose is hard to see.
