About a week later, it was the Saturday before Christmas and the whole gang had gathered at the Gans’ house including Sue and little Sam, Stanley, Jennifer’s family, and Bobby’s fiancée. Everyone was laughing and having a good time, including Myles, although it was the last time he’d see those not at work. Even though he had decided it was time to move on and take a job outside of DC, these people were more family to him than his own relatives; he was really going to miss them.
Those on the team always did a secret Santa, and the families got to see what everyone got each other, which everyone enjoyed. Myles gave D an organizer for the next year, so he could keep track of what all his kids were up to. D had give Jack some ear plugs as a joke for those nights when Sam decided to keep them up all night. Jack (well, and Sue) gave Jennifer a new apron and some hot pads for her kitchen. Jennifer and her husband gave Bobby a devotional on the book “Song of Solomon” to help keep relationship with his intended strong. Being Luke was such a big baseball fan, Bobby gave him a new bat and mitt to play with some of the younger guys in the bureau with. Luke gave Tara a beautiful baby blanket to put in the nursery to wrap her child up in once he or she arrived. Tara gave Myles an empty photo album that she had stitched the cover for.
After the normal gift exchange but before everyone could disperse, Jack as team leader stood as Sue pulled out a box underneath the chair she was sitting in. He began, “We are loosing one of our team this holiday season.” All eyes turned to Myles and back as Jack continued, “Myles, we want you to know that you will always be part of our family, not just mine and Sue’s, but the whole teams. Yes, we will all come and go, but we will always be family. The team has put together a memory book cataloging your time as part of our surveillance team. It has photographs from over the years along with the entire current team and many of the former team members that you have worked with. I speak for the whole team when I say thank you for being a part of our team, and we’ll miss you.” Sue gave Myles the box she was holding as everyone gathered around as Myles opened it.
As he tried to hide the tears welling up in his eyes, Myles replied, “Thank you all, it has been a real blessing working with you. I have had a wonderful life during my time here, but it is time that I move on. I will miss all of you, yes even you little Sam.” Later in the evening when it was time to go, Myles gave hugs and handshakes to all present.
During the next week Myles finished packing up his house and closed the deal selling it. At work on the 23rd he said bye to the team there and left. Looking up at the Hover building on last time, a very nostalgic Myles said “I do have a wonderful life, but now it’s time I move as God has lead.”

For some reason my fast reply never appeared so if it appears at some future date my apologies.
I wanted to say that sometimes the best path is not always the easiest. Thank you for showing us that lesson.

very well written story. Do you think we could persuade you into a sequel? I'm sure Myles will find a wonderful girl in NYC....

You do realize that you have an excellent setup for a sequel here. I would suspect that following Myles' path as he moves on to NY would make for a very interesting read.

The problem with doing a sequal here is that Myles isn't working for the FBI anymore, but for a law firm instead.
I really know nothing about the legal world, so I'm bluffing my way through it all.
I guess I could develope the rest of the team minus Myles, but there's already been so much turnover that I'm not sure I could satisfactorly develope the other characters (Jennifer, Luke, and Bobby's nameless fiancee) that I briefly introduced to complete the team minus Sue and Lucy, especially being Tara's getting ready to go on maternity leave within a couple months and Myles is gone.

Very well done!! I loved all of Myles' thoughts and feelings about the team and what they each meant to him!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
