You're right, Skeeter...I do

patient Jack. (Because I know it leads to amorous Jack....

)
I'm so glad things seem to be resolved with Sue's mom. Every woman needs to have her mom and dad by her side - especially when embarking on a new phase of life.

Thank you all for the replies and for sticking with me till the end. I realise the story could have gone on for a while longer. Maybe I should be grateful for deadline. You're all the best !!!

Epilogue
Jack gently swayed back and forth in the rocking chair near the fireplace. Outside, a fierce snowstorm was raging. The wind was whistling and blowing against the windows. But inside, their bedroom was warm and cosy. Sue stirred, pushing the blanket off her shoulders. He recognised the sexy red negligee he bought her for Christmas. At the time he never expected the little garment to drive him crazy for three days. What possessed his in-laws to accept spending the night in his guestroom? He was simply being polite when he invited them to stay in the wee hours after they talked about Sam. Jack suspected it was Carla’s way to keep an eye on them. Though his mother-in-law must have realised they were sharing the same room, she probably figured the young couple would behave with visitors. He had been tempted to prove her wrong, but Sue quickly deterred him by wearing her impossible nightie. And to add insult to injury, her parents stayed a second night. The third night, they were sharing his childhood room in his parents’ house, forcing him to behave the night before their wedding. Needless to say he nearly ravaged her in the doorway of the small cabin he reserved in the mountains.
When January came and went, and Sue proved not to be pregnant he wondered which instructions they missed. The only thing they missed, Sue told him, was the three-day window during which she would have been more likely to conceive. At that point he decided to immediately change the guestroom into a nursery to prevent any more visitors from hindering their effort. Of course, his charming little wife thought this was a bit extreme, and she opposed. No jinxing the odds. No nursery before the baby.
When February came and went and Sue was still not pregnant, Jack cursed the week he spent in Miami with Myles. He knew he should have brought his wife, though it would have been hard to convince the man they were trying to apprehend that she was a ruthless diamond smuggler.
In March, Bobby flew to Australia with Tara to introduce her to his parents. On their return two weeks later, they were married, Tara was two months pregnant, and they had nicknamed their unborn son, Cappuccino. Apparently it had something to do with the lousy coffee Bobby brew, though neither Tara nor Bobby ever provided any more details. But that evening, after the impromptu party for the newlywed, Jack shared a very steamy shower with his wife during which she mentioned a home pregnancy test. Their little miracle was there, safely tucked inside her mother’s womb.
When in November he held his daughter in his arms for the first time, he was overwhelmed with love for the tiny infant. His little angel, along with her mother, were his most precious treasures.
“Time to sleep, Angie”, he murmured.
At the sound of her father’s voice she turned her head. Deep brown eyes stared back at him, and a faint smile adorned her pretty face. He ran his fingers into her fine blond hair. Except for her eyes, Anna Angie Hudson looked just like her mother. She rested quietly against her father’s chest, enjoying their nocturnal rocking session. Jack wondered what would happen if he laid her down while she was still awake. He had his answer moment later when her cries woke up Levi from under her crib.
“So much for that idea”, cuddling her against his shoulder. “You know we’re flying to see your grandpa and grandma Hudson tomorrow for Christmas, and daddy would very much like to get a few hours of sleep”, not that his little speech seemed to impress his daughter. “Want to sleep with mommy and daddy?” taking her back into their bed.
Sue unbuttoned her negligee for her daughter. Her tiny fists held to her mother’s breast where she sucked for a few minutes, her eyes quickly closing. “She couldn’t be hungry, she just nursed two hours ago”, he observed while lying beside his wife, his hand caressing his little girl’s head.
“Comfort food, Jack”, smiling at her husband. “She’s almost asleep and now I’m awake.”
“I’ll remedy to it as soon as I lay our little angel in her crib”, winking at his wife. That he could still make her blush when they were celebrating their first anniversary in a few days amazed him.
“Merry Christmas, Jack”, she whispered with flames dancing in her eyes.
“Merry Christmas, angel”, and slowly he discarded her negligee.
Between sleeping and loving his wife, the latter always took precedent. Life was simply too short to waste.

This has been a real treat, Marlo!!!
Carla totally redeemed herself in my eyes!! I'm glad we got to meet her on the series, because I could picture the conversation between her and Sue!! How terrible to find out several years later that she really was not abandoned - Anna couldn't come back!! But the blessing is that she will now have her father in her life!!!
I love the epilogue!! Had to wait for that little red negligee for three nights, heh, Jack?? Life can be tough!! I had to laugh at his thoughts on why they were not pregnant in January or February!! And, how perfect that they had a daughter first!! Anna Angie Hudson - I love it!!!
Your last line was.........just absolutely perfect!!!
Thanks for sharing once again!!!

I think I'll sit right here and wait.

Memo to self: Do not fall behind on Marlene's stories!
You'd think I'd learn, wouldn't you? As you probably have guessed I did the print and catch up thing. Do you know how weird it looks to be grinning like a fool at you son's taekwondo workout?
Marlene, I loved the story you wove together. I must admit when I saw "Die Hard" as one of the choices, I wasn't thinking Christmas. But, I'm not surprised that you did. I loved the last line about not wasting time. It was an amazing underlying theme in your whole story.
Great work!

Thank you!
