Chapter 12

Suddenly Levi jumped up at Sue knocking her in to Jack, as she fell against him he caught her and held his hands around her waist as she crashed against his chest. Pulling back a little, her lips brushed against his cheek and her hands rested on his chest, as his lips briefly brushed her cheek.

Reluctant to release her Jack smiled gently, ‘Sue….. if you wanted to kiss me you only had to ask…………’

Blushing furiously she tried to form a coherent sentence as her head lowered, ‘I didn’t…….. I …… err……… I did….. ummm….. I do….. I …. haven’t ….. wouldn’t……. do…. ..’

‘So you do want to kiss me?’ he continued.

‘Yes……. I mean….. no….. yes……’ she blundered, wondering if there was any chance of the ground swallowing her before she made an even bigger idiot of herself than she already was, after all they were ‘just friends’ or at least that’s what she’d been telling herself almost since the day they’d met. Except she knew she was hopelessly in love with him even if he didn’t feel the same.
She didn’t dare lift her gaze from his chest because then he would see the desire in her heart and her eyes, the love and want she had tried to hide for over four years.

If anyone asked, she told them she stayed in DC because of the team but she would admit in her heart that it was the thought of not seeing Jack each day which had stopped her from taking the new job.

As Sue was lost in her thoughts Jack turned his gaze to Levi who was sitting and staring at them, ‘help me out here buddy, she doesn’t know what she wants…….’

Levi cocked his head to one side and huffed a doggy sigh, for a pair of FBI Agents they were pretty slow. Rising to his paws he jumped up at Sue and shoved her deeper in to his strong muscular arms.

‘Le………’ Sue tried to scold the dog but found her words swallowed as Jack lowered his head and brushed her lips with his before tightening his grip around her and giving in to the longing and desires of the last four years.
As she moved her hands from his chest to run her fingers through his hair Jack deepened the kiss, begging for access to her mouth, swirling his tongue gently around as her lips parted and she tried to rationalise what they were doing.

However all rational thought disappeared from her brain as her heart kicked in and she was consumed by the kiss.

As his exploration of her mouth became bolder and more urgent she responded with tentative exploration of her own, becoming more assertive as he ran one hand through her hair while the other held tightly around her waist.

Hearing the elevator ding for the parking garage Levi pushed the ‘up’ button as he had so often been instructed by Sue, sending the elevator to the top floor where the doors silently opened and closed before it rested at the top of the building away from preying eyes.

Sliding her hands down from his hair Sue ran them inside his jacket, aching to touch his skin and frustrated by the presence of his shirt. As they briefly paused to drag some much needed air in to their screaming lungs she yanked his shirt from his pants before moving her hands over his firm, muscular back, feeling the muscles tremble beneath her touch.

Groaning in to the kiss as her touch inflamed every fibre of his being Jack tried to call a halt to the making out but his fear that if they stopped they would never start again drove him on as she met him move for move, their tongues dancing with love and joy.

Finally the mood was broken as the cleaning staff called the elevator down and they emerged slightly dishevelled, oblivious to the stares of amazement from the men and disappointed swoons from the women.

Wow that was some making out

Chapter 13

Holding her hand Jack tentatively suggested take-out at his, a suggestion Sue readily agreed to since she was having difficulty walking to the car on her jelly-like legs and was uncertain her mush-like brain could form too many coherent sentences in front of a waiter.

About to walk the extra few paces to her car Sue was surprised when Jack took her hand, ‘we’ll car pool…… I’ll take you home and pick you up tomorrow morning…….. that way I can kiss you goodnight at your front door…… I can fulfil one of my many fantasies about you tonight…..’ he murmured.

Sue stared at him in amazement, ‘you fantasise about me?’

‘You have no idea what you do to me Sue, no idea how long I’ve wanted to kiss you like that, how often I’ve imagined what it would be like to kiss you properly not because we had to for an undercover…….’ he whispered, his voice choking with emotion.

All his dreams had come true and they had been a million times better than he had ever imagined.

‘I would guess that you’ve been wanting to kiss me like that for almost as long as I’ve been wanting you to kiss me……’

‘And how long would that be?’ he asked, expecting her to say since she split with David.

‘Around four years’ she answered shyly, her face still tinged pink.

‘Even when you were dating David? He queried, his heart thumping loudly.

She nodded silently, ‘David was comfortable, he didn’t excite me in the way you did, he was safe…… he wasn’t going to get shot in the line of duty, dating him didn’t mean I had to make a choice between love and work…….. and he never kissed like that…….being kissed by David was like being slapped round the face with a wet fish…….’

Jack grinned and her heart cartwheeled, ‘I’m glad I’m not like a wet fish, Thomas……… you want to check it out again?’

‘Any time……’ she breathed softly before he lowered his head and reduced her to a quivering jelly.

‘So…….. how long have you been wanting to kiss me?’ she asked as they parted for air.

‘Errrrrrr…….. probably since I watched you walk away from me…. us.. at Bobbys’ party…… definitely since my heart attack…..’ he mumbled, feeling the colour rising in his cheeks.

‘Why didn’t you say something sooner, Jack?’ Sue was stunned at his words having watched him with Allie and Jessica she had convinced herself that Jack Hudson would never want a woman like her when he could have any other woman on the planet.

‘Because…… because….. I……… I was scared…….’ he replied.

‘Scared? Of me?’ Sue raised her eyebrows as she spoke.

‘No…… not of you, never of you….. scared of me……. I wanted it, us so bad but I didn’t see how you could want me…….. and the more I watched you signing with your friends the more I was convinced that I could never fit in to your world….. I didn’t want you to be the one doing all the work, I wanted to fit in to your world as well as you fitted in to mine and I knew it would never happen……… if you didn’t translate for me I had no idea what you were saying……… I was scared of letting you down……’

‘Jack…….. you have tried so hard…… I know you haven’t found it easy but I appreciate the effort you’ve made…… you know more ASL than my mom……. she was so busy making me fit in to the hearing world she somehow forgot that she needed to try and fit in to mine……. You know more than you think you know and I love that you wanted to learn…I’ve had a life time of fitting in to your world, you’ve had just a few short years of trying to fit in to mine and you have done an incredible job……….I love you Jack and I have for so long………’

‘I love you too Sue……. and thank you…… for understanding my doubts…..’

Any further conversation was halted as Sue pulled him close and reduced him to a puddle with her kiss as she ran her hands through his hair, exploring his soft, sensuous mouth with her tongue.

As they drove to Jacks’ he held her hand as it rested on her thigh, squeezing it occasionally, longing to stare at her as she reflected on having been well and truly kissed but his Agent instinct kicked in and he carefully watched the road.

Pulling up outside his place he jumped out to open the door for Sue and Levi before groaning loudly.

‘What’s up?’ Sue asked as she saw his face contort in frustration.

‘We forgot to collect any take-out……….’ He replied as a goofy grin spread across his handsome face.

‘Order in……… and that’s an order….’ She told him.

Saluting he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and they entered the apartment. Having ordered take–out Jack changed into his black jeans and dark blue t-shirt while Sue made coffee.

Coffee was forgotten as they spent time making out on the couch until the meal arrived.

Jack had reluctantly torn himself away as he heard the doorbell ring, returning to lay the food out on the plates which Sue had left on the coffee table.

As they ate they watched Sleepless in Seattle then walked Levi their arms wrapped tightly around each other, reluctant to be parted even for a few seconds.

‘HOT CHOCOLATE?’ Jack signed as they returned to the apartment reluctant to have the evening end too soon knowing that tomorrow they would have to return to work and pretend nothing had changed, that they wouldn’t be able to hug each other or kiss, knowing that they had to speak to Ted urgently.

‘Sure….. I’ll ring Luce, let her know I’ll be late and not to worry………’

Jack smiled as he heard the call, ‘Hi Luce……. I’m Ok, just letting you know I’ll be late……. at Jacks’…….. he’ll bring me home later……… no I don’t know how long….. you don’t need to wait up………. there won’t be anything to tell you……. see you tomorrow……….’

‘Nothing to tell huh?’ he grinned as he entered the lounge and passed her a mug of chocolate with a dollop of cream on the top.

‘Nothing I want to share with anyone just yet……..’ she answered shyly, staring at his lips, desperate to feel them on hers.

Her wish was answered as he removed the mug from her hand and placed it on the table before pulling her down to sit beside him on the couch.

The chocolate went cold as they held each other and made out before falling asleep in each others’ arms.

Waking as he landed on the floor with a thump Jack checked his watch, it was 3 AM. Groaning he ambled to the bedroom and pulled the bed clothes back before lifting a still sleeping Sue and placing her on the bed, removing her shoes to keep her comfortable.

As he pulled the covers over and turned to leave he was startled to hear her voice, ‘stay with me Jack……..’

‘SURE?’ he signed, relieved when she nodded, he hadn’t really wanted to spend the night on the couch.

Disappearing in to the bathroom he changed in to running pants then slid in beside her. Leaving a small light on he smiled as she snuggled in to him running her hand over his chest before resting it over his pounding heart.

‘Love you Jack’ she whispered before drifting off to sleep.

‘Love you too Sue’ he whispered as he fell asleep holding her tightly to him.

Levi remembered that time very clearly, they had woken late still wrapped in each others’ arms, Sue had fixed breakfast and rung Luce so she didn’t send out a search party while Jack walked Levi.

They’d shared a quick breakfast before Jack showered then they had driven to Sues’ where she had showered and Jack had fed Levi.

Thankfully once she explained that she’d fallen asleep on the couch and Bobby had made a crack about him ‘boring the sheila to sleep’ nothing further had been said by the team although both were aware they were being closely watched during the day.

They had spoken to Ted and Jack had surprised everyone by telling him that he would leave the bureau and revert back to being a lawyer if they weren’t allowed to date and work together.

Ted had pulled out all the stops explaining to the AD that they had been in love for as long as he’d been there and he had no problem with them dating officially, ‘since they’ve been doing it casually for all that time’ He had agreed to take responsibility for any issues which might arise although he was confident that there wouldn’t be any problems.

Having been given the green light to date but keep it out of the office they’d been married for a little over a year now.

Chapter 14

Levi and Clarence were now standing in the lounge watching as Sue fed and changed their son, Stephen James.

The baby was now three weeks old and the apple of his parents’ eyes.

‘He’s the image of his daddy……… he has his moms’ kind and generous heart, his dads’ bravery and a sense of right and wrong which he has inherited from both of them……. Stephen has a heart for God already, he will always know Gods’ hand on his life and will glorify God throughout his life……… without you there would be no Jack and Sue, no Stephen Hudson…….before you and Sue arrived Jacks’ faith was wavering…..he’d seen so much pain and hurt in the job he was doubting God, humanity and himself, Sues’ quiet faith in the midst of her own pain lifted his. He could talk to Sue about the doubts in a way he couldn’t with anyone else………’

Levi watched closely as Jack sat on the couch one arm wrapped around Sues’ shoulders as he held Stephens’ hand.

Jack had taken a month off to be at home with Sue and their son and they were all looking forward to their first Christmas together.

Both sets of parents would be down until after the New Year but right now they were just enjoying having precious time together.

Although they had trained Levi to alert Sue to Stephens’ crying he had so far been redundant as Jack was the one who heard him and alerted Sue if he didn’t go immediately to his son and Levi was feeling a little unwanted right now.

He knew that when Jack returned to work Sue would need him but the ache in his doggy heart had grown each day and however hard he tried he missed the fun they’d had before Stephen arrived, the runs and chasing the ball or his bunny while Jack and Sue made out on a bench.

Their walks were more sedate and he chased squirrels while Jack held Stephen or hugged Sue.

‘They still need you Levi…… it’s an adjustment for all of you…….. you and Stephen will be good friends…….. now do you want a glimpse of the future before you return to the present?’

Levi nodded and he and Clarence fast forwarded 24 years.

i've been stressing about this ppost which is why it's taken so long to post. i hope i don't offend anyone but this is based on personal experience of a church which rejected a number of people who were 'differently abled' or mentally ill...........


Chapter 15

‘Levi, have you heard of Albert McMakin?’ Levi shook his head in bewilderment as Clarence continued.

‘Have you heard of Mordecai Ham?’ Levi shook his head again wondering just where this was going.

‘Have you heard of Billy Graham?’

‘Finally’ he breathed, someone he had heard of, ‘yes…….’

‘Without Mordecai and Albert there would have been no Billy Graham….. Albert was the friend who took Billy as a lad to a tent meeting, Mordecai was the preacher the night Billy gave his life to Jesus…… most of the world has heard of Billy Graham, only a handful know the other names…….. in Gods’ eyes they are equally precious……. without Levi the Wonderdog there would be no Jack Hudson, without Levi there would be no Jack and Sue Hudson….. if you hadn’t been born Levi there would be no Stephen James Hudson…….. Gods’ hand has been on their lives but He needed you to accomplish it all……. you’ve seen what the past would be like without you input, now God wants you to see a glimpse of the future because you were born………’

Now they were in the church the Hudson family attended, Jack and Sue were seated in the front row surrounded by family and friends with their latest hearing dog, Josh a German Shepherd, at their feet. On the small table at the front was a wedding picture.

Levi turned to Clarence waiting for an explanation.

‘It’s their 25th Wedding Anniversary…… they’re renewing their vows…… look at the photo Levi and tell me what you see……’

Levi peered closely and tears trickled again down his muzzle as he saw it, ‘It’s the one they had taken with me…….’ he murmured, ‘they crouched down beside me ….. the photo was on the shelf over the fireplace……. Jack wanted me in centre stage since it was thanks to me they were together…….’

Clarence nodded, ‘see Josh? He’s their third hearing dog……. because you and Sue worked so well together she felt confident enough to have other dogs, each one was a rescue dog and each one has been more than just a hearing dog…. do you remember who took the photographs?’

‘Troy…… it was his wedding present to them…… a way of thanking them for having faith in him……’

Clarence nodded, ‘do you see him Levi?’

Levi gazed around the congregation spotting Troy and Carole together with three children.

‘They married twenty years ago, he helped Carole learn to trust again…. they have two girls, both hearing but both proficient in ASL and a son who is deaf…….Troy runs Charlies’ garage and is doing a wonderful job. Who else do you see Levi?’

Levi looked around again, spotting Howie and Otis sitting at the back, both with their arm around a girl.

‘Howie and Otis are both married, ……. Otis went to college to learn how to fix cars and works with Troy, he’s learnt enough ASL to communicate effectively….. Howie is an entrepreneur and still works the streets to keep the bureau informed of shady dealings.’

Clarence pointed to a younger couple sitting three rows back, ‘Amanda and Ben married, they have two children, Ben works in Seattle with computers but they flew over for the weekend……..’

Looking at Jack and Sue, Levi noticed two girls sitting with them, both had blonde hair and their dads’ eyes, ‘Lydia and Sarah….. their daughters, Lydia is in law enforcement and Sarah is training to be a doctor…you’ll get to meet both of them…...Sue works at Chesterfield School for the Deaf, Jack worked as a lawyer for a few years when he retired from the bureau and now he works alongside the Pastor here…… he never was very good at doing nothing…..’ Clarence informed him with a broad grin.

‘Bobby and Tara are married with two boys, Josh and Mark and a daughter Elizabeth. Lucy and Myles are married, they have twin girls, Rachel and Louise and a son, David……. D and Donna are still very much together with four grandchildren……’ Clarence informed him, noticing Levis’ happy, doggy grin and wagging tail.

‘Stephen?’ Levi asked.

‘Look…….’ Clarence indicated a young man standing at the front of the church. ‘He’s training in DC to be a Pastor…… already he has a powerful and effective ministry among the people that society rejects, the differently-abled, the homeless, those with mental health problems, the addicts……. their families and friends, the people who believe that God has rejected them or hates them…or is punishing them……as you will hear he began that work at an early age…….. through Stephen and others they learn that God loves them, that they are precious and valuable as they are…. as I told you he has inherited his parents’ compassionate and caring hearts. Already he heads up a team of people, pushing the churches in the city to make a real difference… sadly some of the churches assume that ‘for God so loved the world’ means, ‘for God so loved the middle and upper classes, the well off and the healthy but has no time for the sick, the disabled or the broken because it’s their fault and they should try harder or confess whatever sin it is that has led them to being and remaining disabled or sick……..’ while others know it means everyone and work hard to take that message to those that society has rejected, they want to make a difference…………what begins here will ripple out across the country and around the world……..God needs His people to carry His message of love and acceptance……………’

Levi watched silently as Steve chatted with his parents and sisters, noticing how closely he resembled his father. Unsurprisingly Jack had his arm around Sue as they stopped occasionally to kiss tenderly.

‘In a few years his heart will take him in to politics and he will use all that he has learnt to help shape more effective policies and laws to provide better and more effective schooling, education, health care and other facilities for the disabled, the homeless, those with mental health problems and anyone else which society deems as having little value……. including the elderly. His vision and love will spur the church to reach out and make a real, lasting difference. He will have the ear of Presidents and politicians across the parties who will respect his integrity and honesty, God given gifts learnt from his parents… he thought and prayed about becoming a missionary but the Father showed him a whole class of people in this country who need to know they have a father who loves them deeply. Through everything he will have the love and support of Elizabeth Manning.’

The amazing thing to me is that if I didn't know better I would think you had been in my Church service this morning, because what you had to say was almost exactly what our Pastor was preaching on. God is amazing! I do believe that for real, this is a move of God's heart for His people, ALL His people. We know God loves everyone, it's people who need to get connected with Him to get it right! Loving this story!
