Okay everyone, this is my first fanfiction! So please bear with me! I'm a huge Bobby and Tara fan so this story is going to focus on them. Any feedback would be appreciated! So without further ado, here is the first post!

I'll have a blue Christmas without you;
I'll be so blue thinking about you.
Decorations of red
on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing if
you're not here with me

I'll have a blue Christmas, that's certain;
And when that blue heartache starts hurting,
You'll be doing all right
with your Christmas of white,
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas.

December 20th 2006

She unlocked the door to her 34th street apartment and entered the lonely apartment. Tossing her keys on the side table by the door, she slipped off her shoes and ventured into the living room. Curling up in the corner of the couch she let out a long sigh as tears ran down her face. It had been a long day in the bullpen. The team had just finished up their case and they were now on vacation for the Christmas holidays. She was happy to have some time off. The past couple months had been the most unbearable of her life. She went to work and put on a happy face so that the rest of the team wouldn’t notice that anything was wrong, but inside she was a mess. She felt all alone. So unwanted. Ever since the day he announced he was leaving.

She remembered that day clearly. It was the day her heart burst into a million pieces. He had come into the bullpen looking rather somber. He said that he had thought long and hard about his decision. He said that he loved Darcy and wanted to try and make things work between them. He was leaving for L.A. That day was his last. At the end of the day he got up to say his goodbyes. Lucy and Sue gave him huge hugs, saying that he would be missed and to come and visit. Jack drew his best friend into a hug and told him that he understood and not to be a stranger. Myles was the most surprising. With tears in his eyes he said goodbye to his partner wishing him all the best. D, ever the father figure, told him to take care of himself and that he was happy for him and Darcy. She was the last one to say goodbye. She didn’t know what to say. The man she loved was leaving for another woman. He had drawn her into a hug and told her that he would miss her. With a kiss on her cheek he left the bullpen. She had gone home that night and cried her eyes out. She swore she would never love another man. Bobby was the only one that could ever make her happy. That was four months ago.

A lot had changed since then. Jack and Sue were together finally. Lucy had found herself a man, Andrew a paramedic. Heck even Myles had someone. Everyone assumed that she was still with Stanley. She didn’t bother to correct them. She and Stanley had broken up over six months ago.

As she glanced at the clock she realized the time and pulled herself up off the couch. She didn’t want to be late for the Christmas party at the children’s hospital. She washed her face and reapplied her make-up. She grabbed her purse and headed out the door. All she had to do was get through tonight and then she would be able to spend the rest of her Christmas vacation wallowing.

Thanks to all for the wonderful replies. Here's the next part. Don't worry everything will be resolved in due time. I wonder what Bobby is thinking?......

**********************************************

Los Angeles, California

As Bobby sat at his desk finishing up some paperwork from the last case his team had worked on, his mind drifted to D.C. and the life he left behind. He enjoyed the people he worked with now, but nothing could ever replace the team he loved back in D.C. They had all been through so much together. They really were like his family. Jack was more than just a friend and co-worker, he was a brother. Jack had been there through the rough times in his life. He didn’t even want to think about what would have happened if Jack hadn’t been there when he got caught up in his gambling addiction again.

Then there was Sue. Sue was like a sister to him. Sue was truly an inspiration. She had been through so much in her life and yet she was an independent woman that didn’t let anything hold her back. Her faith in God and in people was amazing. She refused to see the worst in anyone. Even when Myles had been so ungracious towards her she managed to worm her way into his heart and become friends with him. He remembered the day when Jack had called him to tell him that he had finally worked up the courage to ask Sue out and that they were now an item. He was so happy for them. He couldn’t think of two people more suited for each other than those two.

Lucy was amazing. She was like another sister. She was always there for them helping them with anything they needed for their cases and how she dealt with Randy was unknown to him. He couldn’t even remember the number of times she had threatened to kill that poor excuse for a man! He chuckled at the thought. And who could forget Myles. As much as they butted heads and got on each others nerves, he missed his partner. Underneath it all Myles really was a decent man. He laughed when he remembered the road trip they had been forced to take with Howie and Otis. That had been quite the adventure.

D was the resident father of the team. He was always looking out for them. He and Donna were an inspiration for love. They had been through so much yet they both loved each other more now than they did when they were married. He hoped that Tanya and David weren’t driving him mad right now.

Finally there was Tara. Tara was amazing. She was beautiful, carefree, full of life and energy, and she had a heart of gold. She could put a smile on his face even when he was feeling his worst. Her love for everything Disney was part of what made her Tara. And she was smart. She could do anything with a computer and was always putting in that extra effort to help get the cases solved. He loved everything about her. After the brief kiss they shared he wasn’t sure where she stood in his life. She was more than just a sister figure to him. They were friends. But something had changed that night and he wasn’t quite sure what it was. He was beginning to see her in a new light but he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it all. He thought back to his last day in the bullpen. He was sure he had made the right decision to stay with Darcy until he saw her face. It looked as if all the life had been drained out of her. He had hugged her to him and told her that he would miss her. With a chaste kiss to the cheek he left, not seeing the tears that had begun to fall down her face. His heart broke just thinking about it.

Leaving had been the hardest decision he had ever made. But he truly believed that he loved Darcy and was willing to do what it took to make things work with her. At least he had at the time. He had been in L.A. for four months now and he was beginning to think maybe he had made the wrong decision. The first month had been great. He and Darcy had gone out for dinner and had spent some great quality time together. Then she got caught up in her work and he barely ever saw her anymore. When they did see each other it was brief and they would fight over the most mundane things. But he had made a commitment to her and their relationship and he couldn’t change his mind now could he?

He threw his pen down on the desk and closed the file he had been working on. He wasn’t going to get anything else done tonight. He grabbed his coat and headed home. His mind running a mile a minute, his heart heavy with the burden of what he should do.

**************************

As Tara walked into the lounge on the third floor of the children’s hospital she could hear Myles reading the ‘Twas the night before Christmas with the children gathered all around him.

“ ‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, Not a Creature was stirring not even a mouse,” Myles rich baritone voice spread through the room.

Tara was the last to arrive. She quietly snuck into the room and went to stand beside Lucy and Sue.

“Hey Tara. Nice to see you decided to show up,” said Lucy. “We were beginning to wonder if you got lost or something.”

“You’re just in time though Tara,” Sue chimed in. Santa is going to be here just as soon as Myles finishes reading the story.”

“Sorry guys. I got home and lost track of time,” Tara replied.

As soon as Myles finished up the story sure enough Santa came barging in through the doors to the lounge.

“Ho ho ho,” he cried out. “Merry Christmas.”

Santa went over and sat down in the big chair provided just for him. Soon the children were telling Santa what they wanted for Christmas: teddybears, dolls and puppy dogs were the favourites. Once every child had been given a chance to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas, he began to hand out the small gifts he had brought with him.

Tara looked on with sad eyes. She loved Christmas, but this year just wasn’t the same. Her usual cheeriness was gone. One of the nurses came over and began to talk to her.

“It’s just wonderful that you all come down here every year. The children absolutely love it.”

“We love coming. With the things we see every day, it’s nice to see that there is still some good in the world. Is that a new Santa this year?” Tara asked.

“Well we had to get a new one, that handsome Aussie being gone and all. But this one is filing the role quite well. He had his own Santa suit and everything.”

Tara mentally hit herself for not remembering that Bobby was always the one to play Santa. It just made her miss him even more. The nurse left her to go and bring some of the children back to their rooms. As the crowd began to thin Tara went to gather her stuff to get ready to go home. She was tired and didn’t want to stay too long. Just as she was grabbing her coat Santa came up beside her.

“I noticed you at the back of the room. You look like you could use some Christmas cheer,” he said.

“Oh, hi there Santa. Don’t worry about me. I’m just tired,” she laughed half-heartedly.

“Well before you leave then, why don’t you tell old Santa what you want for Christmas.”

“Oh that’s quite alright. I love Christmas, but I quit believing in Santa when I was 9 years old. We both know that you’re not real. Now if you’ll excuse me I really must be getting home.”

“Now, now dear. How can you love Christmas but not believe in Santa. At least humour me. Tell me what you want for Christmas. I’ll pass the message along to Santa and if you don’t get what you want for Christmas then no harm done. But if you do, well then I guess you’ll have a choice to make: Believe in Santa or not. Let me show you that he’s real.”

Believe me girls. If Bobby was Santa he'd need security to keep himself safe from all of us. He just might get trampled by all of us trying to be first! LolLolLolLol.gif

Well I got home from school and couldn't help myself. I've decided to give you guys another post today. There's going to be a little bit more angst before things get better so hold on.

I was thinking that maybe Ishould put angst beside the rating on the story, to warn everyone but i don't know how to change it. If anyone knows how it can be done that would be great if you could let me know.

Well here it is. Have a good night and Enjoy!

Tara hesitated. Any other year she would have been more than happy to humour Santa. But this year just wasn’t the same. She didn’t feel like celebrating Christmas. Not without Bobby. That’s all she wanted for Christmas. Bobby Manning. She decided that she would tell Santa what she wanted for Christmas. Who knows, miracles could happen right?

“Fine Santa, I’ll tell you what I want for Christmas. I want the love of a man. But not just any man, the love of a tall, handsome, caring, funny, Elvis singing Aussie. Bobby Manning. If you can somehow manage to get him for me for Christmas, there just might be something worth being happy for this year,” Said Tara with tears streaming down her face. “Now if you’ll excuse me I really do have to get home.”

With that Tara threw on her coat, grabbed her purse and left the children’s hospital. She hoped that no one from the team had seen her. She didn’t need any of them worrying about her. She knew she shouldn’t have been so snappy with the Santa, but she really couldn’t help it. All the pent up frustration and unhappiness from the past four months was working its way to the surface. She was mad. Mad at the only man she ever loved for leaving her. Leaving her for Darcy D’Angelo. She didn’t hate Darcy though. Darcy had never been anything but kind to her. But why? What did Darcy have that she didn’t? Not that she could completely blame either of them though. She never did tell Bobby how she felt. It probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference she thought. Darcy was beautiful and elegant. She knew what she wanted and went after it. Tara was just plain and simple, timid and naïve. Surely Bobby wouldn’t want anything to do with her would he? But what about the kiss they had shared? As brief as it was, it gave her some sort of hope. At least she had that small wonderful moment to hang on too.

All these thoughts ran through Tara’s head as she drove home and tucked herself into bed. Tears of loneliness streaming down her face the whole time. She really did want to believe that her Christmas wish would come true, but if history was any indicator she knew that it wouldn’t. And with that she fell asleep dreaming of the tall Aussie that would never be hers.

Back in L.A….

A couple days later Bobby was still confused and troubled. He decided that a walk down the boardwalk would do him some good. It had been a long couple days. He had done so much paperwork to get ready for the Christmas vacation that he swore his fingers were going to fall off. He and Darcy had had a big fight the other night. He complained that she wasn’t there anymore and she complained that when she was he wasn’t. Needless to say he had slept on the couch that night. Not that he minded really. Darcy really was a cover hog, and she hated sleeping close to anyone.

As he looked out over the ocean and the setting sun, his mind drifted back to D.C. and Tara. For some reason he knew that she wouldn’t hog the covers. And she wouldn’t mind cuddling with someone at night. The thought made him smile. Theses thoughts just made him even more confused. He sat down on a bench and continued to watch the waves of the ocean hitting the beach.
An old man with a fluffy white beard and a red sweater with reindeer on it came by and settled down on the same bench as Bobby. He didn’t say anything but just watched the tall young man as a myriad of emotions, pain and confusion mostly, played across his face. After a couple minutes he decides to break the silence.

“You look like you could use someone to talk to son,” he said.

The voice broke Bobby from his thoughts. He hadn’t noticed the old man sit down beside him.

“I don’t know mate. It’s kinda complicated, and I don’t even know you,” Bobby replied.

“All the more reason to talk it out to someone. If you keep it all inside, it will eat you up and won’t get any easier. We may not know each other but sometimes a stranger willing to listen is the best person to talk to.”

Bobby hesitated for a moment before deciding to go ahead and lay it all out to the man that sat beside him. What harm could it do? Besides, there was something vaguely familiar about the old man that sat beside him. Something comforting. With that Bobby began to tell his story.

So Bobby is thinking of Tara and is going to talk to Santa okay....makes perfect sense to me wink.gif
Mulli05

“I guess I should start at the beginning,” said Bobby. “Four months ago, my girlfriend, Darcy, was offered a job here in L.A. She asked me to come with her. It took me awhile to decide to come. I had to choose: stay with my team at work which is like family, or start on a new path out here with Darcy. I chose Darcy.” Bobby hesitated before continuing. “But now I’m confused. I like my new team, but it’s not the same. The family dynamic just isn’t there. Everyone tends to keep to themselves. And I don’t know how things are going with Darcy. She’s never home, and when she is it seems like all we ever do is fight. But she’s a good woman.”

“Tell me about the family you left behind,” said the old man.

“There the best. They really are. Jack, he was our team leader and he was my best mate. We arent’ just friends we’re like brothers. Ever since we met in training we just hit it off. He not only leads, you, but he cares about you and doesn’t want to see you get hurt. He’s helped me out of some tough times, that’s for sure. Then there’s Sue. She’s our special weapon. She’s deaf and reads lips but that doesn’t stop her from doing anything she puts her mind too. When she joined our team, she affected everyone on it, even grumpy old Myles. Her hearing dog Levi, we call him the wonder dog, is a riot. He’s always there to keep you company and he’s saved both Jack and Sue’s lives. Ever since Sue walked into the bullpen, you could see that there was something between her and Jack. Took them three years and her almost leaving to New York, before they finally came to their senses and got together. Never met two people better suited for each other than them two.”

“Myles, like I mentioned before, can be grumpy and stuck up. He comes from money, but underneath it all he’s truly a good guy. He just doesn’t like to show it all the time. He was against Sue joining the team from day one. But that didn’t stop Sue from trying to be his friend and now they have a pretty good friendship between them. Myles is even learning some ASL. I always used to complain about what a pain in the neck he was, but I miss him. His witty banter and how we used to get each other going. Don’t have that here. Lucy, she was our rotor, is amazing. She’s always there to make sure we had coffee for the long nights we’d have to pull. And she could get information you needed before you could say Merry Christmas. She’s miss matchmaker too. Always trying to get Jack and Sue together. Now that they are, she’s got the whole wedding planned out, she’s just waiting for Jack to propose! D was like the father of the team. He’s always there with to impart wisdom on us. His wife Donna is a gem. Hope someday I can have a relationship like there’s.” Bobby took a deep breath before continuing.

“Then there’s Tara, wonderful, beautiful Tara. She was our computer whiz. You wanted something done on the computer she was the gal to go too. She’s got this crazy obsession for everything Disney. Her desk is covered in Tigger and Eeyore and these crazy fluffy topped pens! She’s always on my case about stealing her stapler. I always tell her it’s not my fault it likes my desk better! Just to see her get all worked up. She’s so cute when she gets angry!” Bobby smiled at his thoughts of Tara.

The old man noticed that Bobby’s face lit up like a Christmas tree when he spoke about Tara. No one else he talked about did that. There just might be some hope here he thought.

“You seem really taken with Tara,” he said.

“She’s amazing,” says Bobby with a huge smile on his face. “But I’m with Darcy,” he says when he realized what it must seem like.

The old man smiled. “Yes, but does Darcy truly make you happy? Does she make you feel like you’re the only man in the world, like no one else exists except you?”

Bobby sat back and thought about it. He didn’t know what to say. When he turns back to respond the old man with the fluffy white beard and red reindeer sweater had disappeared into thin air. The only thing left was the whispering of the wind and what sounded like “Follow your heart and you will find true happiness.”

He got up and went home the old mans words still in his head. Did Darcy make him happy?

Bobby woke up the next morning after a restless sleep. He wiped the sleep out of his big blue eyes and glanced at the calendar on the side table. It was Christmas Eve. Stretching out his large frame, he scratched his bare chest and headed for the shower. As the hot water poured over his body, he began to think again about the old man he had basically bared his soul to the other day. Then it hit him. Darcy wasn’t the one he loved and wanted to grow old with. Tara was. Beautiful, wonderful Tara. It felt the weight of the world had just been lifted off his shoulders! He knew what he needed to do.

Quickly turning off the shower, he grabbed a towel and threw it around his waist. Running into his bedroom he quickly got dressed and threw some other clothes into a bag. He decided that he had better wait for Darcy to get home to explain things to her. It was the kind thing to do after all. But as one hour turned to three and three to six, he said the hell with it, wrote her a quick note and headed to the airport.

When Darcy finally did get home and read the note, she really didn’t have much to say. He was holding her back anyways.

***************************

Bobby rushed through the busy LAX airport. He hoped he would be able to get a flight out it being Christmas Eve and all. He raced up to the ticket counter for American Airlines.

“How may I help you sir?” the redhead behind the counter asked. As she looked up she couldn’t help but be pleased at what she saw. Big blue eyes and dimples. When he opened his mouth and spoke, she thought she was going to melt into a puddle right there in the middle of the airport.

“I need a seat on the next available flight to D.C. please, Sheila,” Bobby responded.

“All the flights to D.C. are booked solid tonight,” she responded as soon as she found her voice.

“Please,” Bobby pleaded with her. “It’s super important that I get to D.C. tonight. I have to tell the woman of my dreams that I love her!” Bobby flashed the biggest smile ever in hopes of winning the sales rep over.

“You really need to get to D.C. tonight?”

“You have no idea luv. Four months ago I made the biggest mistake of my life, moving out here and leaving my girl Tara. I didn’t realize then how much I really loved her. She’s my everything.”

Not one to stand in the way of love, the redhead quickly searched her computer to see what she could find. After about five minutes of searching she finally found something.

“There’s one seat left on the last flight out tonight. It’s going to cost you though.”

“I don’t care how much it costs just give me that seat.”

“$1500. And that’s not first class.”

“I’d pay a million bucks if that’s what it took!” Bobby said placing his credit card on the counter.

As the redhead charged his credit card and printed out his boarding pass, she thought about the woman the tall Australian was desperate to get to. She must be something to have such a great looking guy do so much. She handed him his ticket and sent him towards gate 12. He didn’t have much time. It was already close to midnight and his flight left at 1 am.

As Bobby boarded the plane he thought about what he was going to tell Tara when he saw her. He was nervous but excited all at the same time.
