Okay.. Really deep breath is being taken.. I'm starting this story and I have absolutely no idea where it's going to take me but it's worth a try.. It's about the: If a single woman sleeps with a piece of wedding cake under her pillow, she will dream of her future husband. and I hope you'll all enjoy it

"Good Morning, Everyone." Jack said as he strode into the bullpen, looking quite pleased with himself. Lucy immediately picked up the uncommon heir.

"Everything okay, Jack?" She asked as she rounded her desk and walked to Sue's.

"Couldn't be better." He said with a full smile, causing Lucy to look down to Sue who met her with an equal smile.

"Okay, what's going on?" She asked, looking back from Sue To Jack. Jack glanced at Sue with a smile.

"What? The sky is blue, the sun is shining, the coffee tastes good, and.."

"Hang on a second." Bobby said as he glanced from the coffee maker then the Jack. "You just walked in. How would you know what the coffee tastes like?" He asked with a glint in his eyes that caused Lucy to bite her lip, hoping the smile she was holding wouldn't come through. Jack looked at Bobby, but still held his smile.

"I was here earlier."

"Ahha!" Bobby said as he jumped up, clapping his hands together. Jack rolled his eyes as his and Sue's met. Both of them held a smile but Lucy couldn't figure out why.

Jack shrugged off his leather jacket and placed it on the nearest hook. He turned back as Bobby came to his desk.

"What's going on, Mate?" He asked with a small smile.

"Well.. Sue, why don't you tell them?" He pointed his hand to her and she gave a dramatically grateful smile.

"Are you sure? I might mess it up." She said with a wink.

'Apparantly these two are enjoying their little inside information.' Lucy thought as she watched the two interact in sight. Jack smiled back.

"Alright, then. Skydiver just gave us the name of his partner." Jack said with another triumphant smile. Bobby jumped up and threw his arms in to the air followed by happy rejoicings of the news.

"Who's Skydiver?" Lucy asked curiously. Jack turned to her.

"He's the guy we've had for about a month and he hasn't told us anything about who his partner was."

"Oh, is he the guy who was trying to sell Howie some illegal guns?" Jack nodded.

"One and the same. And now he's given us enough information to get the other guy. He'll be ours by the nights end and another no good criminal won't be on the streets anymore." Bobby gave him a pat on the shoulder while walking to his side.

"Congratulations, Mate. When can we go pick him up?"

"D's already on his way." He said with another grin. Bobby nodded with a smile.

"Then I think that this is time for celebration." Bobby said as he made his way back to his desk. "Tara, can you get me 5 coffee sticks?" Tara immediately turned from her place by the coffee pot, picked up 5 sticks and handed them to Bobby. "Thanks. Okay, whoever picks the smallest pays for lunch." All agreed as they went to his side and picked sticks. Jack landed with the smallest and after some disgruntled sighing, he picked up his jacket.

"We're going to McDonalds." Laughter filled the room as everyone put on their jacket's, preparing for the January weather.

"Mate, for this congratulations dinner, I was thinking more.. The Chicken Shack."

"Ohhhh." now filled the room from the 3 woman. By the name, you'd think it were a small restaurant but in reality, The Chicken Shack gave small amounts of food for huge amounts of money.

"Don't count on it, Crash." Jack said as he threw his coat at him.

Everyone filed into the bullpen with smiles on their faces and laughter in their hearts. They had all decided to simply go to French Fever which featured the best seafood dinner, to which all obliged.

"And you even had money left over." Bobby said with a playful grin to Jack referring to the bill.

"Ya well $15.00 a plate doesn't sound like much until 2 of the plates go back for seconds." He eyed Bobby and he broke out into a dimpled smile.

"What can I say, when you're buying I just feel.. lighter."

"Well I'm sure you don't anymore." Tara said with a laugh.

"I can't imagine how you couldn't be." Lucy said as she took her familiar stance at Tara's desk, watching over her shoulder.

"I'm full." He said with a satisfied sigh as he sat down heavily onto the chair which squeaked under the pressure.

"You may need to go on a diet or else your chair might up and walk away one of these days." Myles said without a smile as he took his seat. Bobby gave him a tilted head glance before looking at Sue.

"So what are you doing for the holdiay?" He asked leaning forwards so she could read his lips clearly. She set her coat on her desk as she rounded it and leaned on the edge.

"I was thinking a night at home would be nice." Jack and Bobby gave a clearly unhappy look.

"Alone?"

"On Valentine's Day?" The two asked simultaniously. Lucy and Tara chuckled at the cherades.

"No. I won't be alone." She said with a grin. "I'll have my favourite male with me." Jack gave an incredulous look to Bobby then shrugged. Sue giggled as she turned back to her desk and sat down, rubbing Levi's head as she settled in for the day of paperwork which would be starting shortly.

Later that day, Jack went to Sue's side desk.

"You OK?" He signed to her as he took his place on the edge of her desk. She looked up from the folder she had been scrutinizing and smiled dimly.

"I'll be better when I'm done this report." She said motioning to the folder. Jack smiled sympathetically.

"Ya." He sighed before inhaling a deep breath.

"You OK?" She signed back after he glanced around the bullben then back at her. He shrugged.

"Same as you." He gave a crooked smile and she did the same. "Tell you what." He said as he straightened. "How about you and I go out and celebrate the case."

"But it's pretty late and.."

"Tommorrow." She gave a tilted glance then a smile.

"Sounds good."

"Okay." He said as he stood up from his current seat and after giving Sue a goodbye nod, he headed back to his desk. Sue watched him and leaned her arms against the desk in a normal pose. Lucy came to her side.

"Sue?" She asked as she touched her shoulder. Sue turned and smiled.

"What's up, Luc?" She asked quietly.

"There's a man named Joseph Palmer here to see you."

"Who?" Lucy finger signed the name and glanced over to Jack who was eagerly reading her hands, but quickly switched his gaze down to his desk. Bobby's chuckle caused Jack to look back up and send him a warning glance only to have Bobby laugh harder. "Oh, Joseph. Where is he?"

"He's in the lobby. He says he has something to talk to you about."

"Okay." Sue stood and after gathering her purse and Levi she said, "I'll see you all tommorrow."

"You're leaving?" Jack asked, looking far too innocent for his own good.

"Ya, Bye." Sue gave a wave goodbye as everyone quietly said their own goodbye's. After Sue had left Lucy turned to Jack.

"Try not to read over Sue's shoulder next time." She said with an accusatory stare which turned into a grin.

"What? I wasn't reading over her shoulder." He said with another innocent look.

"Oh, C'mon Mate. Anyone coudl've seen that one." Bobby said as he immitated Jack's stance as if desperately reading something on the far wall. Jack rolled his eyes and looked back down to his desk though a chuckle escaped his pursed lips. Lucy turned on her heel and went back to her desk but Bobby was still chuckling.

Joseph is related to David some how...but how?

Jack had barely gotten home and into bed when his phone rang. After giving a few disgruntled sighs, he pushed the covers back, turned on the lamp and picked up the phone.

"Hudson." He said in a hoarse voice and a laugh carried through the phone to his ears.

"You okay, Jack?" D's voice was less then concerned.

"What do you want, D?" He asked in a not so friendly tone. Another laugh came through and Jack laid back on the pillows, holding the phone to his ear.

"Well, You know how you were complaining about too many reports?"

"D, If you wanna have a nice chat, call in about 8 hours."

"No, no. There's a point to this." He said with another chuckle.

"Then what is it?" Jack asked, hardly seeing the humour in the present situation.

"A man just came in claiming his ex-wife has kidnapped their daughter." Jack came fully awake as he sat up.

"Any more information?"

"No that's all. He said he and his wife divoriced last year and he got custody of their 6 year old daughter. He said that she was abducted by her last night."

"Okay, but that isn't unusual. Why do you call me at this time of night?"

"The woman is known to be suicidal."

Jack rolled his eyes again and after giving a long sigh, he said, "Fine, I'll be down there in a few hours."

"No, Jack. Now." Before Jack could respond, or complain rather, D hung up. A few choice words escaped his lips before he threw the covers back, stood up, and went to the washroom.

That sucks...he was probably having a good Sue dream and everything.

Intriguing new case!

All right -- the case sounds interesting -- but somehow I haven't shaken the thought of Sue going to meet a guy downstairs. Hello? who is this guy? I mean other than his name, what do we know about him? and why is she meeting him downstairs? Why didn't she say, 'bring him on up'? ack. ack. ack.

Jack entered the bullpen and checked his watch as he did so.

"1:06." He muttered to himself.

"Morning, Jack." Tara said as she covered her mouth as she yawned.

"Morning." He said with a faint smile. He glanced to the other desks and noting that no one else was there, he turned to Tara. "Where is everyone?"

"Oh, they all went to get some doughnuts." Jack nodded in approvement as he made his way to his desk at which he sat into his seat, not bothering to take off his coat.

"This the girl?" He asked loud enough for her to hear as he picked up a picture of a young girl on his desk. Tara glanced over then nodded.

"Yup. Sara Taylor. 6 years old." Jack nodded subconsiously as he read through the papers that followed.

"What about the mother?" He asked as he looked over the folder.

"Umm, she's.. Here." She pressed a button and the screen came to life, portraying a brunette woman, aged anywhere from 35 to 40. "Karlee Richardson a.k.a Taylor."

"So, what, the Father just comes in here and says 'hey my wife is gone and i think she took my daughter'? It doesn't make alot of sense."

"I know. But he was really concerned acting. He said his ex-wife took his daughter from him at gunpoint and drove away in a blue SUV. Here's a picture of it." She said as another picture came up.

"Hmm." Jack nodded again as he looked the car over. "Is this the exact one?" She nodded.

"It was a family picture. I just took out the family." She said with a smile. He smiled back.

"Okay, we've got the doughnuts." Bobby said as he, D, and Myles entered the bullpen holding up small paper bags.

"Good, I'm starved."

"What's the matter, Not too happy, Sparky?" Bobby asked as he handed him a bag.

"It's after midnight. I can only be pleasent from 6 a.m. to midnight. After that I.."

"Turn into a warewolf." Myles said with a glint of humour in his voice. Jack gave him a sardonic smile.

"I was going to say I have permission to be grumpy." Bobby gave a dimpled smile.

"Well, Good luck with that, Mate. 'Cause that little Shiela of yours is on her way up."

"What?"

"Sue is in the building." Myles said as if decoding it. Jack gave a thankyou nod to Myles then turned to the door in which Sue was now occupying. She didn't look tired, in fact she looked wired and ready to go.

"Hey. What's up?" She asked as she made her way to her desk with Levi following on her heels. Jack eyed Bobby then watched Sue sit down. Her movements were followed by the three men and when she looked up, she seemed surprised. "What?"

"Well, It's after midnight.. How come you're so chipper?" Bobby asked as he leened forward, a smile dying to be shown.

"I.. I got to sleep a little first." She said, as if fixing something she was going to say.

"How?" Sue playfully did the 'my lips are sealed' sign and smiled. Jack rolled his eyes with another perfect smile.

uh-oh -- should I e nervous about Sue's chipper mood?

Okay, I know it may seem like I'm posting alot, which I am, but its for a reason! Since I only have a month on this story and I plan to get alot into it, Ill post more often then my other stories.. Any objections?

"Where's Lucy?" Jack asked before a yawn as he finally noticed that their favourite rotour hadn't come in yet. Sue glanced to Lucy's vacant desk then back at Jack.

"She has a wedding tomorrow. She told me she didn't want to miss it." She said with a shrug. Jack nodded before glancing at his watch again. "Are you waiting for someone, Jack?" Sue asked, noticing how he checked his watch every few minutes. He looked up.

"Um, no. I'm just.. I don't know. I feel kinda anxious I guess."

"About what?" He shrugged.

"I don't know." She gave a sideways smile then turned back to her paperwork after Jack did the same. D suddenly jumped up from his desk. Levi immediately pawed Sue's legs causing her to look at him then up to D who was now passing her desk.

"I found it." He said with a smile.

"Found what?"

"The missing link."

"I hadn't realized we were looking for a missing link." Sue said with a tilt of her eyebrow.

"We weren't. But I just found one."

"Care to share?" Myles prodded as he leaned forward in his chair.

"Mr. Taylor was lieing to us about at least one thing. He told us that his ex-wife, Karlee, didn't have visiting rights and that their daughter wasn't legally at her house."

"And I'm guessing that those two reasons would be the missing links?" Sue asked with a smile. D nodded.

"Exactly. I just read on his bio that he and Karlee split their daughter 50/50. She was at her mother's yesterday and he told us that he was working at the time that Karlee and Sara left so there's no way she could have pulled a gun on him if he wasn't even there."

"So," Jack said as he stood. "That means he might be lying about something else."

"It's worth a shot." Bobby stood as well and Jack passed D giving him a 'good for you' pat on the shoulder as he left the bullpen, flagged by Bobby and D.

Sue glanced at Tara who watched them go then smiled. She looked up and met Sue's glance.

"Hey." She said sweetly.

"Hi. How's everything?" Sue asked back.

"Good. You?"

"Good."

"So, who's this Joseph Palmer." Tara said as she stood and went to Sue's side. Sue glanced at the door then back at Tara with a mischevious smile.

"What about him?"

"Who is he? Where's he from? How long have you known him? Are you two together? Is he cute?" She asked as she came to her side. Sue chuckled.

"He's nobody."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean he is nobody."

"Sorry, I'm not following." Sue glanced around again, making sure no one was there.

"Joseph Palmer is no one. He's not real. He was Lucy's idea to see how Jack would react to me seeing someone around Valentine's Day. But, we're pretending he's Levi. That way I can say I'm with a guy right now. He just doesn't have to know its only Levi."

"You're kidding me!" Tara said with an enthusiastic smile. "That's great."

Sue laughed and said, "I know. His eyes got huge as soon as Lucy spelled his name!" The two laughed together but sobered as soon as someone entered the room.

"We'll talk later." Tara said with a smile and Sue smiled back.

"Definately." She signed before going back to her paperwork.

"Wait, one more thing." Sue looked up as Tara turned and came back to her. "Joseph was there earlier.. yesterday night. You left with him."

"Actually I went home. I was getting a headache so Lucy said I could go home. He was my way out." She said with another bright smile.

"Oh you're good, Miss Thomas." Tara said with a grin.

"Actually, Miss Dotson is better." The two chuckled as Tara went back to her desk and took a seat.

The gang of men entered the bullpen around 4 a.m. at which point Sue was starting to doze on her arms which were propped up onto the desk. A yawn escaped before she covered her mouth. Jack gave a tired smile as Levi sat up and pawed Sue's legs causing her to jerk awake and look up, meeting Jack's eyes.

"Oh, Morning." She said in an exhausted voice. He barely nodded as he walked past her desk to his where he sat down and rubbed his face. D walked past Sue, giving her a smile before landing hard onto his chair. Bobby did the same.

"You three don't seem like the three victorious studs we've all come to know and love." Tara said with a smile as she glanced up from her computer. Jack shrugged.

"We aren't. The guy denies everything we said. He said his wife picked their daughter up at his house at gunpoint and left in the blue SUV. I'm stumped." Jack said as he ran a hand through his hair and along his neck, attempting to massage the horribly tight muscles. Sue slowly stood from her seat and carried a file to Jack. She handed it to him and he took it with a weak smile. "What's this?" He asked quietly.

"It's a family picture of Mr. Taylor, his ex-wife, and their daughter." Jack nodded as he looked over it.

"What am I looking for?"

"Don't you see it? I saw it right away. Look at Karlee Taylor's left arm." Jack held the picture closer to his eyes.

"Okay.. I think I see a bruise."

"Ya. She has several and in every picture I have of them, she always has at least one bruise on either one of her arms or both. In this one," She gave him another picture, this time of just Karlee and Sara. "See how Sara is holding so tightly to Karlee? And both of them have a bruise on their wrists."

"So," Jack said as he surveyed the pictures. "Are you saying you think Mr. Taylor is abusive and that's why Karlee ran off with the daughter?" Sue shrugged.

"In my present state I wouldn't trust anything I say but that's all I can come up with." Jack smiled.

"Well it's worth a shot. In the morning we'll talk to any family members or friends of the family. Maybe they can tell us something." Sue nodded as she turned back to her desk. "Oh, Sue." He stopped her as he stood and gently took her arm. She turned back to him. "Who's that guy you were meeting yesterday?" Jack asked with a hint of concern in his voice.

"Oh, um, he's just a friend. I've known him for a few years now."

"How come I've never heard of him before?"

"You have. I talk about him all the time." She said with a grin before turning back to her desk and sitting down.

I loved this. I can picture how tired they all must be.
