The next morning, Jack, Sue and Levi left to find out more about Karlee Taylor's life. They started with her sister Amanda.

"Miss Richardson," Jack said as he and Sue sat down on the couch in Amanda's living room. She took a seat across from the two. "What can you tell us about Jeff Taylor?"

"My brother in-law?" She asked curiously. They nodded. "Oh, um. Well, he's a really nice guy. He's very pleasent to be around and he's just a really nice guy. Why are you asking about him? I thought my sister was the one missing." Jack nodded, glancing at Sue.

"Yes, she is but we just need to find out anything about maybe why she would want to leave and take Sara with her." Sue said in her kind tone. Jack smiled at the familiarity of her tone. She would use it whenever someone would start to get edgy about why they asked a certain question.

"How long had your sister been married to him?" Jack asked, turning the conversation back to Jeff.

"Um, It would be 7 years in a few months but they got divoriced 2 years ago."

"2?" Sue repeated.

"Yes." Sue glanced at Jack with a worried expression. "Why? Is something wrong with that?"

"Well, Jeff told us that they had been divoriced for only a few months."

"Oh, well.. He's probably right. I-I don't know." She shrugged and rolled her eyes dramatically and Jack immediately thought it strange that she would change her story from 2 years to a few months.

"Miss Richardson, How well did you know your sister?"

"How well should I know her? She's my sister. I know her like myself."

"Would she tell you anything?" A quick look of fear crossed the woman's face but it just as quickly dissapeared but not without Jack's noticing it.

"Why are you asking me all of these questions?"

"It's just procedure, Miss Richa.."

"Please, call me Amanda." She gave Sue a smile who returned it. "And to answer your question, my sister and I were very close. She would tell me almost anything."

"Almost?"

"Okay not to be rude but is this twenty questions?" Jack glanced at Sue who mirrored his concern.

"Amanda, were you and your niece close?"

"You mean Sara?" Sue nodded. "Sorry I have several nieces." Sue nodded again with a smile. "Um, yes she would come over here sometimes, but she was always the shyest of the group."

"Did you ever notice any odd behaviour in either of them before their dissapearance?" Jack asked.

"Um.. Well, Ya, Karlee was kinda edgy last week."

"Edgy?"

"Ya, like I called her and she wouldn't talk very much."

"Okay, thankyou very much Miss Richardson." Jack said as he stood, Sue following within the second. Amanda stood instantly.

"Oh, um okay. Are you sure theirs nothing else I could do?"

"No, thankyou for your time."

I have a feeling Amanda is hiding something....

Hmmm....yes. 'Methinks the lady doth protest too much' seems fitting here.

The way she changed her answer so quickly seems like she knows something but isn't telling Jack and Sue.

Thankyou so much for all your replies.. I've got a bunch of work to do today so I probably won't be on alot today so I'll leave you with this for the first post of the day

"You get anything?" Jack asked as he, Sue, and Levi entered the bullpen, gaining the attention of the other agent's. Tara looked up from her computer.

"Nothing on the liscense plate. I'm running it now." Jack nodded.

"Bobby, anything on the interviews?" Bobby, who was sitting in his seat, sat forward.

"No one seems to want to double Sue's theory. They all think that the two of them were very happy and nothing was wrong. Of course I couldn't really come out and say 'Do you think Jeff physically abused Karlee and Sara?'." Jack gave a weak smile. "How 'bout you? What did her sister have to say?"

"Nothing." Jack said as he placed his jacket over the hook and sat down. Sue came to his side.

"Except for the fact that she changed her story very quickly when Jack said that Jeff said something different. Other then that, she didn't say much."

"Hmm." Myles said as he stood and made his way to the coffee maker. "Why do you suppose she would do that?" He asked in a sarcastic tone. Bobby smiled and glanced at Tara who was waving her hand in the air, catching Sue's attention.

"I think we may have something."

"What?"

"The lisense for the SUV that Karlee was last seen in wasn't put in her name. In fact, none of their cars were. She owns absolutely nothing from the house and she got nothing in the divorice. Sounds like a pretty controlling ex-husband if you ask me." Jack shrugged.

"But, It also could mean that she just didn't want to have anything."

"It could but my gut is with Sue on this one."

"That's disgusting." Myles muttered as he sat back down and sipped his coffee. Bobby grinned.

"What's the matter, Myles? Never had a piece of your body agreeing with someone else?" He asked, his dimples becoming more and more present.

"Hardly. I follow my heart and it never leads me wrong." A burst of laughter was quickly contained and everyone glanced to Lucy who was sitting at her desk, trying to hide her face.

"Apparantly someone disagrees with you, Mate." Bobby said as he stood, giving Myles a slap over the shoulder with his folder. Myles simple scowled.

Bobby went to Tara's desk and after dropping his folder onto it and giving her a smile, he went to the coffee table and filled up his mug. Tara came to his side and did the same after he had set the container down.

"So, what are you Shiela's planning for Vaneltine's Day?" He asked with a smile. She shrugged.

"I don't know. I haven't thought about it actually."

"Really? I'm shocked. I thought all you woman did was plan and scheme about what you'll do on Valentine's Day."

"Oh really?"

"Ya, it's like the witches on Halloween." Tara gave him a swift smack and he chuckled. "But, seriously, you have nothing planned?" She shook her head as she added her sugar and he added his. They both went for the cream but were stopped when their hands collided. They both gave an uncomfortable chuckle and Bobby immediately said, "Go ahead." Tara nodded a thankyou and took it, though instead of pouring it in hers, she poured it into Bobby's and stopped immediately as he said so. He stared at the small woman as she started to move the cream to her cup. Bobby stole it from her and with another dimpled smile, he added the cream and stopped when she said so. They both smiled as they departed from the table.

"Oh, now wasn't that sweet." Myles said in his overly dramatic tone that made Bobby roll his eyes. "Two young lovebirds in the making."

"Shut up, Myles." Bobby warned as he took his seat and Tara watched him with a smile.

"Hey," Jack said as he leaned back in his chair. "As far as I can remember, when Sue and I got married you didn't stop taunting me for a few weeks after. I think we have permission though I won't embarress Tara."

"Thankyou, Jack." He flashed a smile before returning to his work, happy for the 10 second break and hoping for more.

The silence was deafening. The pounding of your own heart was all that was heard. No one made a sound. It was so quiet.

"Jack?" Sue asked quietly, placing a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to her with a far away look in his eyes.

"You have to pay the waitress." Jack shrugged and with an angry sigh, he handed the young woman his credit card. Laughter rippled through the group that sat around the table at the fancy restaraunt of Bobby's choice.

"No more drawing straws." Jack said as he glared at Bobby. Tara chuckled under her breath as Jack said, "Next time, Tara, you are going to make sure that Bobby gets the smallest." Poor Jack had chosen the smallest straw again and was thus succumed to paying for everyones meal - again and he wasn't too happy about that, though his anger was very minimal and his humour was more present then anything.

"Darn the luck." Bobby said with another laugh.

"You know, luck has nothing to do with it." Myles said and all eyes turned to him. "I think Bobby and Tara have you set up."

"I wouldn't put it past them," Jack said with a grin. The group packed up after eating all that they could and left. They walked quietly along the road, Bobby on the far side and Sue on the other and whenever he chose to speak, she ignored it since it was so hard to read hit lips from that distance. Jack turned to Sue who was walking beside him. "You okay?" He asked quietly. She nodded with a smile.

"I was just thinking."

"About what?" He glanced back to Bobby who was laughing at his own joke.

"Just.. stuff I guess."

"Any stuff in particular?" She shrugged.

"Not really. I was just thinking about Joseph."

"What about him?" Jack asked, a very clear layer of disgust on his tone but luckily Sue couldn't catch that.

"He must be hungry."

"What?"

"Oh, nothing. I gotta get home. Bye guys." She gave a friendly wave before heading to the garage where her car was parked. Jack gave another shrug and turned back to Bobby who was still laughing at his joke.

"And then?" Myles asked, completely missing the punch line of the joke. Bobby glared at him before rolling his eyes and taking a few strides a head of him. "Come on, don't leave me hanging!"

"The jokes over, you drongo!" Bobby yelled back though Jack saw the ever famous dimples clearly written in his face. Jack just chuckled.

Oh no....Jack is taking Joseph too much to heart...Tracy hun...that is so mean but I like it

Oh, poor Jack!

Jack and Bobby were the first to enter the bullpen since Myles had taken D aside and were discussing something and Lucy and Tara had decided to take the long way since they wanted to talk. Jack made his way to his desk and immediately sat down. Bobby casually followed him and sat on the edge of Jack's desk. Jack looked up with eyebrows raised and a smile on his face.

"What's up, Mate?" Bobby asked, a hint on concern in his voice.

"Nothing. Why do you ask?"

"You just seem different."

"How?" Bobby shrugged.

"I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with the guy Sue is seeing." Jack immediately looked up and Bobby saw the defensiveness in his eyes. He looked as if he were going to defend it and Bobby was more then willing to use any technique possible to get the poor man to admit his own feelings to himself. After a moment, Jack gave a long sigh and shrugged suddenly looking very defeated.

"You're right." He said quietly. "But, I don't know what to do about it." He looked up and Bobby saw how defenseless he really was.

"Jack, love is something you can't control. And its been painfully obvious to all of us that you and Sue have been powerless against it."

"You really think she's interested in me?"

"How could she not?" Bobby shrugged with a smile. "If I were her I would've pounced on you a few years ago." He gave a wink and Jack chuckled.

"I'm not really sure if that's what I needed to know."

Bobby gave another smile before getting off his desk and turning to his but not before saying, "Jack, first, try talking to her. I think she'll listen." He then sat down and began to write on a report. Jack sighed loudly. He just hoped he wasn't too late.

He isnt too late...come on Jack, just go to her...she will dump "Joseph" immediately...

Great scene Tracy! Very funny! It kind of reminds me of a scene I have coming up in my story, but I like yours better. Oh, well. I bow down to your superior writing skills.

Bobby glanced up to Tara's desk and upon seeing that she hadn't come in yet, he felt his uneasiness growing. He looked back to Jack who was intently looking at a folder.

"Psst, Jack." He looked up.

"What?" He asked in an equal whisper.

"Have you seen Tara come in yet?" Jack shrugged.

"No, why?"

"Nothing its just.. It's been half an hour and Lucy's already back."

"Ask her then." Bobby nodded as he stood and made his way to Lucy.

"Hey Bobby." She said with a smile.

"Hey, where's Tara?"

"I don't know. She said she had to get something at home."

"Did she say what or why?" Lucy shrugged as her phone rang.

"Sorry, Bobby." She picked it up and he turned to but then turned back as soon as he heard what Lucy said. "Oh, yes, hello Stanley."

Stanley??? Please tell me it's not 'Stan the Man' coming to interrupt a Bobby/Tara romance!


I have faith that you'll make it all work out for them in the end, so I'll just be until your next post.

First a fictional person is in the way of a Jack-Sue relationship. Now Stan the Man's phone call interrupts Bobby's inquiry on the whereabouts of one Tara Manning. This will be very interesting to see how everything pans out.

First "Joseph" now Stanley how are Jack and Bobby surposed to get there girls

"No, I'm sorry she's not here right now. But she'll probably be here within the hour. Okay, alright, nice talking to you, Stanley. Okay, Bye." She hung up the phone and looked up to see Bobby's intense eyes.

"Was that Stanely?" Lucy nodded.

"Sorry, Bobby." Bobby shook his head and smiled, though it wasn't dimpled, immediately giving away that he wasn't happy.

"No, it's fine. I'm going to go see if I can find her."

"But Bobby.."

"See ya later, Lucy."

The whole time through the hallway, down the elevator, through the doors, to the car and now driving it to Tara's house, Bobby couldn't quite put his finger of the feelings he was having. They were so vibrant and clear yet they were like sun on a wall. You could touch it but it wasn't actually there. He was beginning to get so frustrated with himself that by the time he arrived at Tara's house, he knocked on the door with such loudness, he actually took a step back.

"Crap." He mumbled with a small smile. She opened the door with urgency.

"Oh, Bobby. Hi."

"Sorry, did I bother you?"

"No, it just sounded like a stampede of elephants was walking on my door." She gave a smile and Bobby practically melted from it.

Get a hold of yourself! He thought to himself and smiled.

"May I come in?" He asked, and after she nodded, he ducked in, closing the door behind him.

"What's up?" She asked, looking very pleased to see him alone.

"Well.. I was just wondering where you were."

"Oh. Well you found me." She gave another smile and he couldn't help but chuckle.

"Actually I wanted to talk to you about something."

"What?"

"Well.." The phone's steady alert was enough to stop him from going any further. Tara gave an apologetic glance before turning and walking to her phone.

"Hello?" Her face paled. "Stanley?" It took all of Bobby's strength not to go run over to the phone and hang it up and then kiss Tara senseless, though he considered it.

Why didnt he?! Bobby is letting Stanley stand in between him and his true love...sounds like Bobby is the turtle now
