As Sam skips down the sidewalk towards the computer store Myles leans over to Lucy. “Are we sure she’s old enough to go to MIT?”

The Rotor gives him an angry look. “Yes Myles. She may be young but she’s very smart.”

“I understand that, but she’s only 16. Is it really smart for her to be out on her own?” He asks in concern.

“I’ve technically been on my own since my mom died.” The teen says joining in the conversation. “I’ve stayed with over 15 families but none were home, and at each one I had to take care of myself.” Sam points out.

Noticing the tears forming in the student’s eyes Myles changes the topic. “So ‘Teach Me’ about computers. I know how to use one but that’s about it.”

“Well I’m looking for something that has Pentium III processing, most likely a Mac.” She opens the door to the small store. “I’d also like a DVD player/recorder as well as special web cam hook up.”

As she finishes off her list as sale rep makes his way to the group. “Can I help you?”

“Yes please. I’m looking for the newest Mac laptop you have in stock.” Sam says taking a glance around the store.

“No problem. How much are you’re parents willing to pay?” Chuck the rep asks.

“Oh we won’t be paying for it.” Myles corrects part of the assumption. “She wants it, she’ll have to pay for it herself.”

“Yes of course sir. The newest model is also Windows Vista compatible, and comes with all the power and memory that someone like you could ever want.” The annoying man says.

“What is that suppose to mean?” Lucy asks Myles under her breath. “Someone like her. I’d like to give him a piece of my mind.”

“Let her handle it.” Myles says placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

“Okay that’s all well and good, but is it LRF compliant?” Sam asks getting a confused look from Myles, Lucy and Chuck.

“Umm…EH….to be honest with you, I’m not sure. You’ll have to check with Tech Support to find out. Now this model is very expensive, especially for someone like you, who won’t be doing much with it. You should probably look to last year’s model. Much more affordable” He suggests.

“Nope. I want the newest one. And just for your information, someone like me will have a better Tech job than someone like you. I just have 3 more years at MIT to go.” Sam says her temper flaring. “Now just get me the laptop, so I can pay, then we’ll be on our way.”

Fifteen minutes later the group of 3 walk out of the store. Sam very pleased with her new laptop, Lucy smiling at the way Sam told the sales rep off and Myles still baffled about what Sam wanted in her computer.

“Sam? If you don’t mind my asking but why do you want your laptop to be LRF compliant?” He asks opening his trunk allowing Sam to put her computer away.

“LRF stands for Little Rubber Feet. They stop the computer from sliding on the table. All computers have them. The guy was…” She starts to explain. Before she can say any more on the subject shots ring out.

“Lucy, Sam get down.” Myles orders drawing his own gun from its holster.

Sam quick complies while Lucy stand there in the street in shock.

“Lucy!!!” Myles shouts pushing her down on the ground grunting in pain. The wound to his chest bleeding freely.


“Get the two females.” A voice orders. “The male’s down for the count.”

“Let go of me.” Sam yells trying to fend off one of the attackers. “You won’t get away with this.” She continues making eye contact with Marc.

“I already have.” He says knocking her out….

“LUCY!!!!” Myles wakes up yelling. Jack and Sue rush to his bedside.

“Myles its okay, you’re safe.” Sue says trying to calm the agent down. She sits in a chair placed beside the bed.

“Where’s Lucy, and Sam. Marc grabbed them. He knew where we were.” Myles says quietly feeling defeated.

“Bobby and Tara are looking at the most obvious warehouses.” Jack says wrapping his arms comfortably around Sue’s shoulders. “What happened?”

Myles takes a deep breath. “Sam was just putting her laptop in the truck, she was explaining about LRF compatibility, when shots come from nowhere. I was worried about Luc, she was in shock. I pushed her down, then nothing.” The blond Agent looks down. “I’m so sorry.”

“It’s not your fault. We just need to pray.” Sue says closing her eyes praying out loud…..



Meanwhile……



“Sam. Sam….come on wake up.” Lucy shakes the young student wake.

“Lucy?” Her words slurred. “Where are we?” Sam tries to sit but dizziness keeps her down.

The Rotor shrugs her shoulders. “I think we’re in some kind of green house. I haven’t had the chance to ask.” She replies sarcastically.

“Have you seen Marc?” The teens asks looking around the room. Seeing the Geraniums she sighs and mutters under her breath. “Wonderful.”

“No one’s been in since we arrived.” Lucy’s eyes fill with tears. “We’re alone and Myles is dead.”

Sam scolds the older woman. “Don’t you dare talk like that! I’m sure that he is in the hospital doing fine.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure of that Sammy.” Marc says threateningly. “From what I could see the bullet just missed his heart. The paramedics wouldn’t have gotten there in time.”

Sam meets the gang leader’s eye, hatred shinning in her own. “What do you want?” She spits out.

“You had to be taken out of the game permanently, and it was my job to do it. Your dad paid me well for it too.” Marc says matter of factly. “He couldn’t have you running around, knowing that we take orders from him. That he used the drug money to start his green houses. He’d loose all of those comfy government contracts.”

“David had you do this?” Lucy asks in shock. “But she’s his daughter.”

“So.” The leader shrugs his shoulders. “She’s a daughter that he never wanted, a liability. A liability that’s easy to lose.” He turns around and starts to walk towards the desk sitting in the corner. “I’m just waiting for the call. Then it all ends.”

Sam slowly sits up trying to ignore the dizziness that threatens to over take her. “Lucy, he’s not dead. You have to believe that.”

Lucy just shrugs her shoulders. “I never told him.” She whispers. “He’s gone and I never told him.”

The teen places her hand on the rotor’s arm. “What didn’t you tell him Lucy?”

“That I forgive him. That I’m sorry too, that I love him.” The last part hard whispered barley heard.

“You and Myles have a history don’t you?” Sam questions.

Lucy nods and tells the long complicated story.



Back at the hospital



“Tara Luv, please calm down, we’ll find them.” Bobby says gently handing Myles a file.

“But we’ve checked all of the ware houses. They’re not there!” Tara shouts

“Green Houses! You need to check David’s Green Houses.” Myles says out of the blue. Handing the file back to Bobby. “Take a look at this. Marc and David know each other. I think David’s involved.”

D takes the file from Bobby. “Marc’s father and David went to school together, and according to this Marc gave David money to start his business.”

“We have to find them soon.” Myles pinches the bridge of his nose. “I have to tell her.” He whispers.

“We’ll bring them ‘Home Soon’ Myles.” D says giving the Agent a friendly pat. “Then you can tell Lucy anything you want.”

Myles’ eyes widen in shock, then he just nods his head. “Any word from Judge Roberts?”

“Yeah, he’s looking into it. As far as he can tell Jack and Sue will be granted custody, as long as David signs off on it.” D relays the conversation from earlier that morning. “He’ll gladly work it so that Jack and Sue won’t have to get married if they don’t want to; but if they do decide to, he’ll write a letter of reference to the director to have them stay on the same team.”

“That’s a good thing.” Tara says claming down just a bit. “One of us may want to tell them that, considering.”

“Considering what?” Myles questions

“Well, they’re dating now.” Bobby answers for the computer tech. “They told us that yesterday, and we all know that they are in love with each other.” The Aussie continues.

“So adoption may be an option in the future.” D says nodding his head in understanding.

“I’m going to go find Jack and Sue and let them know the newest lead. Sue should know where all of David’s Green Houses are. We’ll start looking.” Tara says picking up her purse.

“I’ll go with you ‘Wiz Kid’.” Bobby says standing up and following Tara out of the room.

“There goes the next couple.” Myles chuckles

“Yup. The director’s going to have fun with this team.” D agrees. “Though you and Lucy are the only ones that won’t be breaking the rules.”

“There isn’t going to be a Lucy and Me thing. I blew it the last time. No matter how much I love her, I’ll never be with her.” Myles says closing his eyes. “Now if you don’t mind, I’m getting tired.”

“Sure Myles, but just think about this. You tell Lucy everything and let her decide what to do about it, you owe her that much.” The supervisor says leaving the blonde agent to sleep, or think…..

Oh wow...Lucy still loves Myles... never saw that coming!

I just caught up and I'm on the edge of my seat!!!

Myles was very clever to put two and two together and know that they are being kept in one of David's greenhouses!! I certainly don't like David any more!! I never did think he was good enough for Sue, but he seemed like a half way decent guy!!!

Jack and Sue will be happy to know that they can marry and still stay on the team!!!

It's good to see Myles and Lucy on the same page for once. I think they would be very cute together again.

I'm glad Myles gave them a lead. Looking forward to more.

Oh not only is the Judge going to have fun with this team, but so are the directors of the FBI once they find out that Bobby and Tara are going to be the next one, as well as Myles and Lucy!

Myles wakes up to whispers. “Jack, Sue is everything okay?” He asks getting worried.

Sue leans forward and places a gentle kiss on his forehead. “Yes Myles everything’s fine.”

Myles gives Jack a confused look. “Umm…okay.”

Jack takes pity on the Agent and explains the situation. “We’re waiting on the warrant to come through to search David’s Green houses. Sue’s pretty sure that Lucy and Sam are being held at the one on 5th. We’re going to get them, we’ll bring Lucy back Myles. I promise.”

Myles’ eye widen in shock, as he reaches for a glass of water. Sue hands it to him with tears in her eyes. “Lucy feels the same way Myles, you’re not alone.” She whispers. The blonde agent nods his head in understanding. “And thank you Myles.”

“For what?” He takes a small sip, sighing as the water relieves the dryness of his throat.

“We just came from seeing Judge Roberts, we have full custody of Sam, with the option of adopting her. We owe that to you.” Jack starts to explain rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

“It wasn’t a problem Jack. I was happy to help. You and Sue belong together and Sam…well she deserves a family, and you and Sue will provide the best.” Myles admits. “She’s one lucky girl.”

Before more can be said a nurse enters the room to check on her patient….



At the Green House



“So that’s what happened.” Lucy finishes her story.

“Wow. That’s amazing.” Sam says looking around for Marc. “Now we have a real reason to get you home.”

Lucy nods her head. “What can you tell me about him?” The Rotor points to the gang leader.

“Well we met shortly after my mom died. David had come up to sign the waver for me to be placed into foster care. We had gone shopping for somethings that I needed, when David had gone up to pay Marc came up and introduced himself to me. He seemed nice enough so I didn’t have second thoughts to meet up with him and a few of his friends for a movie later that night.” The teen takes a deep breath. “David didn’t have a problem with it; it gave him a reason to leave early. Marc and his friends helped me through the pain of my mom dying and David leaving.” Sam brushes a tear from her cheek. “We never dated, he never asked. The gang were my protectors, that’s all.”

“You’ve been through a lot.” Lucy says pulling the girl into her arms.

A loud bang diverts the 2 hostages attention. “Where is she?” A voice yells.

Marc stands up behind the desk. “Over there boss.” He answers pointing to the student.

The man walks over to Sam and Lucy. “Well look at what we have here. I got two for the price of one.” David sneers.

“What do you want?” Demands Lucy.

“I’m sorry Lucy, you shouldn’t have gotten involved. You weren’t who I’m after.” He glares at Sam. “Now you my darling daughter, you’re the one I want.” He pulls her so she’s standing on her feet.

“I’m not you’re daughter, cause you’re not my father.” She spits out in courage.

Her reward is a hard slap to the face, her mind exploding in pain. “Shut up. I made you what you are. If it wasn’t for me you would have nerve met up with the Hawks, you would still be alone.”

“It’s better to be alone doing what’s right than it is being protected by breaking the law.” She says getting ready for another slap.

Only it doesn’t come, instead a punch to the stomach sends her to her knees. “I had a feeling you felt that way. When you join the Hawks you never leave, you should have known that.” David kneels down and pushes Sam onto her back.

Sam’s eyes are closed in terror as she feels the toe of her father’s boot slam into her rib cage. Lucy screams out in rage. “David, stop it.”

The only word that comes out is “Never”

Sam coils herself up into a ball for protection as another kick to her rib sends flashes of pain throughout her body.

“F.B.I” Is the last thing she hears before the darkness welcomes her….

To think this started off as a happy story...this David you created is horrible and mean I hope Sam will be alright.

What an awful situation!



But I must admit that those are the last words I'd like to hear before blacking out if I was in that situation. Help has arrived!

This is the second to last post....just one after this and it's all done.....thanks to everyone for reading....it's been a pleasure....

Sam doesn’t know if it’s the beeping of machines that’s waking her up or the gentle squeezing of her hand. All she knows is that she wants to open her eyes.

Slowly they open, unfocused at first but then her vision clearing. “Dad?” She lets out a strangled whisper. “Dad, Mom?” Much clearer this time.

“Shhh….kido, it’s okay. Sue and I are here.” Jack says gently kissing the young girls forehead.

‘Where am I?’ She asks in sign.

“In the hospital sweetheart.” Sue starts to explain. “We found you and Lucy. You’ve got a couple of cracked ribs and a slight concussion, but you’ll be fine.” She gives the student a hug careful not to aggravate the injuries.

‘David?’ Sam asks, hoping and dreading for the answer she suspected Jack would give her.

“I’m sorry kido.” His is only answer

Sam just nods her head slowly. ‘What happens now?’

Sue climbs up on the bed to sit beside their new charge. “Well, Jack and I have been granted full custody. You can stay with us if you’d like.”

‘Like a family?’ The student’s eyes glassed over with tears of hope.

‘Yes.’ Jack signs

“I’d like that.” The newest member of the extended family whispers. ‘How’s Lucy?’ she reverts back to sign.

“She’s sitting with Myles right now.” Sue points out. “They have a lot to talk about.”

‘She loves him.’ The statement not coming as a shock to either of the Agents. ‘Just like you two love each other.’

Jack and Sue blush deeply as Sue signs. ‘Yes and just like we love you.’

“I love you guys too.” The emotion in her eyes matching that of her words and hands.

“There’s a certain young man waiting outside to see if you’re okay.” Jack states pointing to the door.

“Davie?” Sam asks. Seeing Jack nod she continues. “Can you let him in please?”

“Of course sweetheart. Jack and I will give you two sometime, but you really need to sleep okay?” Sue brushes away the red locks from Sam’s face.

Jack goes to the door and opens it. “Come on in Davie, Sue and I are going to get something to eat. We’ll be back later.”

Davie walks in carrying a rather large bouquet of white daisies and red roses. “Sure Jack no problem.”

Jack and Sue leave Davie and Sam to their talk, leaving the room hand in hand. “I think it’s time to use that last heart.” Sue says smiling.

“I like that idea.” Jack agrees pulling Sue into his arms for a long and passionate kiss…

Valentines Day 2008



“So Sam it’s your turn.”

“Thanks Uncle Bobby, Aunt Tara.” Sam approaches the podium. She’s never been nervous, not like this. The student glances around the room looking for encouragement. She finds it in the face of Davie.

“I told myself that I wouldn’t cry, but now I’m not so sure.” Sam says making the people around her, her family laugh. “For those of you who work with the bride and groom and don’t know who I am. I’m Samantha Thomas Hudson, and a year ago I was introduced to the most amazing family. I’ve learned a lot from this family, Uncle Myles and Aunt Lucy taught me that no matter what the past has been like the future is always better, and that ‘True Love’ is real.” She raises a glass to the married couple.

Sam’s gaze goes to Bobby and Tara, newly engaged. “Uncle Bobby and Aunt Tara have taught me that no matter how different two people are ‘New Love’ can grow.” She smiles at the couple now kissing.

“Mom and Dad ‘D’ have taught me how to deal with the ever changing ways of a teenage boy, and still love him.” She smiles at her boyfriend’s parents, and sticks out her tongue at Davie.

Sam stops to take a breath, wiping tears from her cheeks, smiling at her mom and dad. “Mom, Dad, you two have taught me the most important lesson. That just because you don’t share the same DNA doesn’t mean we aren’t a family. Can you two come up here please?”

Jack helps Sue out of her chair, each giving their daughter a quizzical look. Sue reaches Sam first. ‘What’s going on?’ She asks in sign.

‘You’ll see.’ Is Sam’s only answer

As Jack reaches the stage Bobby yells out “Speech Sparky, speech.”

“Mom and Dad can talk when I’m done, thank you very much.” Sam retorts to the laughter of the audience.

“Now Dad, Mom I know that you have made many sacrifices to make sure we are a Godly family, one of those being having a private wedding. A year ago today you made a commitment to each other and to me that we would always be a family, and I can never say thank you enough.” Sam looks to the audience. “This next part is going to need a little explaining. Last Valentines Day Aunt Tara thought of a way to bring the team closer together. Each member had to choose candy hearts. One set that my Mom and Dad had said ‘Start Now’ which they both used when we became a family.”

The student pulls out a small white bag and takes out 3 candy hearts. She hands them to Jack and Sue. “I figured that maybe this was appropriate considering. We’ve been a family for one year, but we’re still starting out, ‘Starting Now’ our family will grow from Mom’s gentleness and Dad’s determination.” She looks to her parents for permission.

‘It’s okay, you tell them.’ Jack signs. “We’ll grow not only in strength, but in numbers too.”

A gasp moves through their friends and family, as they see Jack place his hand over Sue’s which is resting protectively over her stomach.

“I love you both so much.” Sam finishes. As she moves to leave the makeshift stage Jack grabs her arm.

“Come here kido.” He pulls her into a large strong hug.

“We love you too.” Sue whispers joining the embrace.

The family and friends gathered watch as the family shares something private, each thanking God for His perfect timing, and for candy hearts…
