I'm glad Levi wasn't in the car when they hit the ditch. I was worried about that. You think of everything.

Guys, I'm leaving tomorrow for the weekend. I'm taking my laptop and I'm supposed to have internet access in my hotel room. So I should be online if time permits between hockey games.

The box was in the garage with a note attached to it.
Sue,
Don’t be too disappointed. Most pieces are chipped or cracked.
I’m sorry I missed you. Have a safe trip back.
Love,
Mom
“Are you going to check it out before I put it in the trunk?” bending down to pick it up.
“It wouldn’t make much of a difference if I did, Jack. Let me help you,” and she simultaneously lifted the opposite end. Their eyes met as their hands touched under the box. He brushed the tip of her fingers with his while they walked out of the garage. It delighted him to see her face glowing a darker shade of red with each stealthy caress.
After carefully depositing the box, Jack made sure he secured it so it would not shift or flip while they drove.
“All good,” shaking the box one last time to make certain. “So? Lunch?” gazing at her with hungry eyes.
He deliberately trailed his hand down her arm as he waited for her answer. She knew it should not be possible, but her skin tingled under her heavy coat.
“Lunch?” she repeated, fighting to clear her hazy mind.
“Yes. Lunch,” smirking with pure male satisfaction. “It’s the midday meal. It usually comes between breakfast and dinner,” he teased her, “though in some parts of the world it’s also called ...”
“I know what lunch is, Jack Hudson,” lightly slapping him over the chest.
“You’re lucky we’re in your parents’ driveway in plain daylight,” catching her hand.
“Or what Jack?” daring him to continue.
“Or ... I could give your neighbours some juicy gossips to report to your mother,” very tempted to throw caution to the wind and kiss her.
“You’re not thinking? Not here?” her eyes widening like a deer caught in the headlights at the allusion. He couldn’t think about doing what she thought he thought of doing, blushing furiously at the thought he indeed could.
In one smooth motion he had her wrapped in his arms. “If not here, where would be the best place to share our first kiss?” mischievously rising his brows.
“First ... kiss?” her voice scratchy and low.
“Technically it will be our second,” he mused aloud, “but we were interrupted, so the first one doesn’t really count, does it?” grinning at her flustered expression.
“It ... It ...”
Befuddled, she was alternately nodding and shaking her head.
“Glad we agree,” closing the gap between them.
Her lips were soft and inviting. She instantly melted in his arms, giving him access to her mouth. His tongue playfully danced with hers, delighted by her full participation. She gripped his jacket, her legs weakening under the sweet sensations he created in her body. He tightened his embrace, silently cursing the bulky clothes for hindering his effort. When she shivered, he realised he unbuttoned her coat to slip one hand inside. He eased the kiss but kept her in his arms. Her lips were red and swollen, and her eyes hazy. The perfect first kiss, he thought with immense satisfaction.
“Jack?” her voice barely above a whisper.
“Yes, sweetheart?” the endearing term slipping effortlessly from his lips. He brushed a strand of loose hair behind her ear, his fingers leaving a burning trail over her skin.
“Where ... where do we go ... from here?” she asked with hesitation, afraid the answer might break her heart.
“Forward, only forward,” he promised, “towards the future God reserved specially for us.”

How ironic is it that Jack and Sue would have their first REAL kiss in her parent's driveway! The same parents (or at least her mom) that were always trying to keep her from truly experiencing life on her own! I wonder when her mom is due back from her errand/trip?

Sharing lunch with her took on an all-new exciting meaning. He extended one leg, rubbing it against hers under the table, while he sought her hand over the red and white check tablecloth. They were smoothly crossing the line between friends and lovers, their strong friendship the natural foundation upon which to build their new relationship.
“Hey!” he exclaimed with feigned indignation when she ate the last bite of his chocolate cake.
She shrugged, her lips curling up into a sweet innocent smile. He placed his hand under her chin and leaned over the table to lick the smudge of chocolate at the corner of her mouth.
“Restaurant, Jack” she murmured just before his lips brushed hers. He kept the kiss light and sweet, fudgy sweet. Later, in the privacy of either their apartment, they would indulge in even more pleasing displays of affection.
The drive back was playful and animated. The afternoon traffic was sparse, allowing him to glance sideways regularly and keep his mouth in her line of vision. His wandering right hand was only a preview to what he had in reserve for the evening. And her warning that they would end up in a ditch if he did not keep both hands on the wheel was lost amidst the wonderful possibilities such a fate could generate.
“Jack, you’re bad,” trapping his hand by intertwining their fingers together over her thigh.
“Just catching up on missed opportunities,” smiling impishly at her.
“You should behave in the car,” she whispered to his ear, before leaning her head against his shoulder.
“Does that mean I don’t need to behave at home?” he teased, wondering if she would catch his remark in the rear view mirror.
“We’re going to my place and Lucy will be there,” chuckling at his one-track mind.
“It gives me a few hours to figure out something to bribe Lucy with so she leaves us alone,” reviewing Lucy’s taste. “She likes chocolate, doesn’t she?”

He deposited the box on the table, near the note left by Lucy.
Sue
My mother called saying she needed my help. Nothing serious, but I had to leave work early and drive there.
I wasn’t sure when you would be back and didn’t want poor Levi to stay home by himself so I asked Bobby to look after him. I hope you and Jack had a “wonderful” trip. I’m sleeping over at mom’s. I’ll see you tomorrow.
Hugs
Lucy
“No need to bribe Lucy,” a mischievous smile spreading over his face.
“We have to pick up Levi,” her voice dropping and her temperature rising with each step he took towards to her.
“I’m sure Bobby won’t mind a short delay,” he countered.
He took his jacket off and helped her with her coat, both items inadvertently discarded in Levi’s new foamy bed near the table.
“Was your day ... wonderful?” using Lucy’s line as he encircled her with his arms.
He was smiling at her with a tenderness he never previously displayed. And in his dark brown eyes, sparks were dancing, inviting her to join him.
“Amazing, Jack,” playing with the short hair above his nape.
“I love you, Sue,” revealing his truth feelings. “I should have told you long ago.”
Her radiant smile enveloped his heart. He kissed the tears pearling in her eyelashes.
“I love you, too,” she murmured just as he captured her lips.
He poured all his love for her in the kiss and she responded with the same ardour. His touch enflamed her, creating a blaze in the pit of her stomach that sent butterflies soaring into frenzy. Her soft moaning fuelled his desire. She was intoxicating, irresistible. She stirred in his arms and he fed on her restlessness.
He tugged on her blouse, seeking the texture of her skin. The caress he bestowed her bare back mimicked her roaming of his bare chest. How or when she unbuttoned his shirt was a mystery he did not intend to solve. He willed her to just push the fabric off his shoulders.
He released her just long enough to let his shirt slip off his arms. She followed the trace of the fabric, his muscles rippling under her hands. They slowly moved towards the table. When the back of her thighs hit the wooden side he swallowed the involuntary yelp that escaped her lips.
Pushing the cumbersome box further aside, he squeezed her at the hips and sat her on the edge. She held on to him as he laid her down. Joining her on the table was a reckless, foolish act. But the thought the furniture was not built to support their weight zoomed right through his passion-induced mind without stopping.
Sue shifted underneath him, a pen left on the hard surface poking into her flesh. Sensing her discomfort, he rolled over, taking her with him. It startled her when he winced in pain after his shoulder hit the sharp corner of the box.
“Jack!” desperately reaching for the tipsy box.
Sprawled over the table, he was holding the box by a flap that was ripping under his eyes while Sue was crawling across him in an attempt to help. He cringed in agony when he felt the cardboard give way under the weight. Stricken by the look of horror on her face, he cradled her in his arms. Guilt washed over him at the imminent crashing sound.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart,” meaning every syllable. “We made that trip to retrieve ...”
He frowned, leaving his sentence unfinished. Shouldn’t he have heard more than a dull thud?
“We found each other on this trip, Jack,” mistaking his reaction. “I think Grandma would have agreed it was a nice trade off,” fighting her tears.
“Smart woman, just like her granddaughter,” relieved she was forgiving him, “but, we may still be able to salvage something,” and he stretched his neck to peek down. She followed his lead and shrieked in surprise.
The box was sitting squarely on the mount formed by their bulky winter outerwear, seemingly undamaged except for a missing top flap.
