Gee... I wonder just who it could be?
? LOL
**********************************************************************Tara stopped and looked back at him. “Bobby, what’s wrong?” Bobby could only stare towards his car. Tara turned and looked, eyes widening when she saw who was waiting. “What’s she doing here?” She muttered.
“Special Agent Manning…”
Bobby nodded curtly as he walked forward. Tara trailed, staying in the shadow. “Darcy D’Angelo.” He said shortly.
Tara’s eyes narrowed and she pursed her lips. She had a very healthy… extremely valid… dislike for Darcy. Not only had the woman inadvertently derailed her relationship with Bobby before it had even a chance to start. Just by her very memory. It had taken 6 months for them to actually find their way back to that starting point. But Darcy had actually had the audacity to cheat on Bobby at the same time that he had been convincing himself he was falling deeper and deeper in love with her.
“It’s been a long time, Agent Manning. I’ve missed you so much.” Tara could hear the underlying seductive purr in Darcy’s tone and it set her teeth on edge.
“Well, if you’ve come all the way here just to tell me that, you’ve wasted plane fare.” Bobby said coolly, frowning at her.
“Oh come on, Bobby. You don’t really mean that.”
“I told you when you called last summer that I was done with you. Once again, you’re only here to see how you’re doing.” He said.
“Well, I’ve chosen to forgive you for that conversation. Clearly your friends were influencing you.” Darcy said.
“Clearly you are completely delusional.” Tara muttered under her breath. It was too much to take. She stepped out of the shadow and shot an annoyed glance at Bobby for even letting her talk as much as she had. “He doesn’t need your forgiveness.” She said hotly.
“Oh, Agent Williams. Long time... wish it was no see. I certainly had no idea you were lurking in the shadows.”
“Yeah. Well, it hasn’t been long enough.” Tara stated, her eyes narrow slits as she glared at Darcy.
Darcy’s laughter trilled in the empty garage. “Oh Bobby, she’s so sweet. Tiny little mousy thing like her defending your decision.”
Tara stepped closer, ignoring the pointed look Bobby was giving her. “What part of he’s done with you don’t you understand?” She asked, exasperated. “You were cheating on him, Darcy. Don’t forgive him for sticking to his decision about you.”
Darcy looked at her in disdain. “And how is that nerdy code breaker of yours? Stanley, wasn’t it?” She asked, with a dismissive wave of her hand.
“I’m sure he’s fine.” Tara replied coolly, crossing her arms so her ring glinted in the dim light.
“Obviously he’s doing well if he could give you that.” Darcy remarked. “Why would he want to?” she muttered under her breath. Darcy never really cared for Tara. She found her to be too quiet.... yet too quirky to not be annoying. And she'd always suspected that Tara had a little thing for Bobby.
“Look, Darcy…” Bobby started, taking a step towards her.
“Bobby.” Tara said, warningly. Bobby studied her and gave a tiny nod to show he’d let her lead.
“Bobby” Darcy mimicked. She sauntered around the front of his car. “I’ve always admired how you all protect each other. So family like. Do you always keep each other in check like that?” She sneered down her nose at Tara. Standing flat footed, Darcy had a good 2 inches on Tara. She was wearing 3-inch heels so she was practically towering over Tara as she stared down at her with disdain. “Once again Tara, Stanley seems to be doing great if he could afford to give you that.” She stared at the ring on Tara’s finger. ‘Dang! Why does she seem to really have everything? I think that rock’s from Tiffany’s.’ Darcy thought jealously.
Tara bit her lip and stepped closer to look up at Darcy. “He’s fine. His wife is fine and their 3 day old baby is also fine.” She raised a brow at Darcy. “The ring’s not from him. I haven’t seen him since April.”
“Oh. Well, I’m glad you’ve found someone who can put up with all your personality flaws. Now, Bobby, let’s go have dinner and catch up.” Darcy said, turning away from Tara.
“Now, you listen here. I don’t think you understand. It’s so simple, I’m sure your journalistic brain won’t require the presses to stop while you process it.” Tara drew herself to full height and looked evenly at Darcy, who turned back to stare at her. Darcy’s eyes narrowed. “You screwed up. You cheated you left. He was willing to follow you but you told him you really didn’t want him to come. How am I doing so far?” She glanced at Bobby briefly. He smiled reassuringly, he liked where she was going with this. “You can’t just waltz back into town, Darcy, and expect that everything is ready for you to just pick up where you left it in shambles.”
“You don’t know anything, you geeky little cyberbrat!” Darcy shouted, a spray of spit flying on to Tara’s face. She clenched her hands into fists and stepped closer.
Tara calmly wiped her face, her eyes smoldering in her anger. “Sorry Darcy. This is life and you, sadly, are the one who doesn’t know anything.” Tara said.
“This is life.” Darcy mimicked, with a laugh. “Yeah, well then shorty, you know that life isn’t fair and its high time you got over your silly little crush. Bobby would never be into a little geek like you when he could have someone like me. And you’ve found someone, so forgive me when I do drive off with Bobby tonight and we rekindle everything from where we left off.”
Tara thought hard about slapping Darcy, just to wipe the smirk off that smug little face. But that wouldn’t be considered appropriate actions befitting a federal agent and Tara hated anything to do with unfit actions to perform as a federal agent. “Livings easy with eyes closed, isn’t it Darcy?” She asked. “California must be on a completely different logic level. It’s been 10 months since you left. You were cheating on him a year ago. How’s that guy? Wasn’t he a linguistics professor?” Darcy glared and mumbled something. “What? He dumped you? Oh, that’s just too darn bad for Darcy.” Tara tut-tutted. “You listen and listen good, you…you…” Tara stomped her foot. “Just never mind what you are. Bobby doesn’t want you or need you. He’s happy. He’s getting married.” Darcy paled and looked at Bobby. He nodded. Tara stepped in, two steps away from being toe to toe with Darcy and her voice dropped. “And yes, Darcy dear. You’re wrong about him. Bobby is very… very interested in me. And how I feel is not some silly little crush. So in this instance, you’ll need to forgive him for leaving you in the dust tonight because he’s already got plans for ‘ever after’ with the woman of his dreams. And that’s me… not you.” Tara glared at Darcy.
Darcy let loose a shriek of anger and stepped quickly towards Tara. She reached for Tara’s hair, like she was going to tear her hair out. “You’re wrong!” She screamed.
Tara quickly sidestepped her, caught Darcy’s arm and twisted it behind her in one move. “I’m not and you’re not authorized to be in this section of the garage.” Tara took a deep breath. “You’re also not authorized to be in Bobby’s life…. Our life. So you need to get your little, two-timing butt back on the plane and get back to your side of the country.” Tara let her go with a slight shove. Darcy stumbled away from her, looking to Bobby for assistance.
“I told you already Darcy. I’ve been fine without you. I don’t want you or need you. So yes, please take the advice of my soon to be wife and get back from where you came.” Bobby nodded once to her and opened the car door for Tara before going around and getting in.
Darcy stared after the car as it pulled out of the space and drove out of the garage. After all she’d done to come and claim him again…. He’d fallen in love with the cybergeek.
