Wednesday, December 1, 2004Dear Diary:
It’s already December. Can you believe it? The stores have had the halls ‘decked with holly’ for the last three months, so it seems that the ‘season to be jolly’ should now be over, but the best is yet to come! Then again, by this time, most people have lost their ‘jollies’, so, perhaps it is true.
One of the many reasons why I love this time of year is the fun of shopping for everyone’s Christmas presents. It reminds me of how different all the members of the team are, but also how we somehow work so well together.
Take Bobby for instance, he is an easy one. Get him a really big coffee cup filled with candy, add a gift certificate for a free meal at Slappy’s and he is thrilled to pieces.
On the other hand, Sue is so much harder to shop for. Perhaps I should go ask Jack what he thinks I should get Sue. He is so in tune with her, they’re like lichens, neither could very well do without the other.
I have it! The perfect gift for Sue this year: convince her to admit her love of Jack to Jack. After all, it’s pretty obvious that he is holding back because of her hesitancy.
That is my goal. By Christmas, I want to have those two engaged.

Fabulous Webgoof. I'm glad someone is writing a story from Lucy's viewpoint. Excellent idea!
I'm with Lucy; it would be nice for Jack and Sue to be engaged by Christmas. I sure hope Lucy can pull it off.

Dear Diary:
I got some more shopping done today. I got Jack this beautiful leather Bible I know he will positively love. I found some pens that had interchangeable caps, each one having a strange fuzzy something on it. I should see if I can find a Rubik’s cube that is harder than standard. Those would be really good for Tara. D will be hard to shop for. I am confident I can find something suitable, though.
Day one of “Operation Admission” was a bomb. I couldn’t get a single word out of Sue. Perhaps I should work at convincing Jack to be more aggressive. I sense that Sue is hesitant, fearing rejection in Jack’s eyes. After all, there was that terrible old maxim; “familiarity breeds contempt.” Nothing could be farther from the truth in Jack and Sue’s case. If Sue will just let Jack in, she will most assuredly find an unconditional love surpassed only by that of our Heavenly Father.
If I could just get them to to go out together!
I could two tickets to the…yes, that will do nicely.

Ah Webgoof, i think we must have some psychic link or something because this is very similar to the idea i had! Tina will confirm this. Spooky or what!
Now i'll need to go to plan B! Oh wait! Slight problem with that - i don't have a plan B yet! Back to the drawing board so to speak.
Seriously though, i'm loving Lucy's diary so far and i can't wait for more.

Dear Diary,
Well, “Operation Admission, Plan B” is under way! I pulled some serious strings, but I got tickets for a Deafwest Theatre production tomorrow night. I asked Sue if she’d like to go out with me tomorrow night. I think she thinks I won the tickets. The thing Sue doesn’t know is that I have a date to go Christmas shopping with mother already, something I’d ‘conveniently’ forgotten about…and will remember tomorrow, what a shame, I will have to forgo dinner with Sue. Now she has tickets for two and only her. The perfect setup for Jack.
Now as to “Operation Christmas Shopping.” Five down, one to go! Mother and I will go to the old town to see if I can find some stuff in the antique shops. Perhaps something obscure for Myles will be there. As to D; I have his present planned. A babysitter for him and Donna so they can enjoy dinner reservations for two at Antonio’s on New Year’s Eve.

Dear Diary,
Well, today was a partial success. “Operation Admission Plan B” was a success so far…Jack and Sue are still out…however, I didn’t have as much good fortune in “Operation Christmas Shopping.” I found a really cute Rubik’s cube for Tara. It has the traditional colors, but they are merely backgrounds. The individual squares each depict a different primary key on the computer keyboard….the top row of keys, (escape and the function keys) the numbers 0 through 9 plus all the alphabet, enter, and space.
When I told Sue that I had plans with her mother, and that she could find someone else to fill my place, she wasn’t too happy with me, because I had just told her that I had bought the tickets, but I told her that if she went out with Jack, that I would consider it payment enough. Who could refuse under those conditions?
Oh! They are at the door now! I’ll close this for now, because I don’t want her catching me.
Now, if I could find myself another Jack, the world would be perfect…

Dear Diary,
Well, now I am so excited that I don’t know where to start! Chronological order sounds good. OK. So, last night, Sue comes in (well, more like, she opened the door and Levy came in she stayed in the hall with Jack) She and Jack were both like “Well, I had a nice time tonight”---“Yeah me too”
It looked like they were about to kiss, (and I am positive that they both wanted to) but for some reason, they didn’t. And there was mistletoe right above their heads! My word! What more does it take??
Anyway, after Church today, Sue and I went out to lunch with the Shallys. Those kids are SOOOO cute! It seems like they have each grown an inch every week! This afternoon I went out shopping with Allison, and found the perfect present for Myles.
We were about to head home, when I noticed this last little store I wanted to visit. It had different stuff here and there, but nothing Myles-ish. That’s when I saw it. It was behind a stack of books on the $10 table.
It was beautiful.
It was perfect.
It was a first edition of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”
I paid cash.

Dear Diary,
Who doesn’t hate Mondays? All that backed-up work, all that riff-raff to sort through. At least I didn’t have to deal with Randy. Perhaps I shouldn’t say that. He’ll probably show up tomorrow now.
Maybe I should get Randy a copy of A Christmas Carol too…he might learn something. I tell you, there cannot possibly be anyone alive who more perfectly fit the role of Ebenezer than Randy.
I am pleased to report that “Operation Christmas Shopping” was a complete success. Now comes “Operation Gift-wrap.” I love that too! What I hate about the holidays (besides the fact that they aren’t year-round) is that I have to wait almost THREE WEEKS to see them opened….totally unfair. It is so much fun seeing them unwrapped…just as fun as wrapping them. That means that I have to wrap this up so I can go wrap other stuff up, only to be impatiently waiting to see them unwrapped. Does that make any sense?

Tuesday, December 7, 2004 Dear Diary,
D is so excited. His boys are going to be in his church Christmas Pageant. I cannot help but be happy for him. Honestly enough, I don’t want to be anything but happy for him. He is such a good man. I imagine that he will be soon promoted to Ted’s place.
Today was pretty boring, other than decorating the bullpen for Christmas. I think Randy will have a fit tomorrow when he sees that Myles put the decoration in his expense account!

Oh, the games we play.
Thankfully, I wont be there. Perhaps it would be fun to see the battle, but then again, maybe not. Either way, I am going to go with Allison on a tour of D.C. with a group of seniors from Church. I told her that I wanted her to meet one of the guys from work. She knows they all look good, but she doesn’t know which one is coming, and I didn’t tell! I can be mean if I want to.

Allison is going to transfer over from another team. There was a lot of tension there, between her and another woman…the other one was jealous of her, but it’s their loss and our gain.
