‘Come on then, you can’t put this off any longer Hudson…….’ Leaving her plate on the coffee table she took his hand and led him to the kitchen.
‘You could make them for me’ he protested.
‘I could…….. but that would be cheating and then when you get through to the semi final you’ll look an idiot……… tell you what, when you reach the final I will be a member of your handpicked team, how does that sound?’
‘Sounds good’ he nodded, pulling out the weighing scales and other necessary implements.
Welsh cakes
Preparation time less than 30 mins
Cooking time less than 10 mins
Ingredients
225g/8oz self-raising flour, sieved
110g/4oz (preferably Welsh) salted butter
1 egg
handful of sultanas
milk, if needed
85g/3oz caster sugar
extra butter, for greasing
Method
1. Rub the fat into the sieved flour to make breadcrumbs. Add the sugar, dried fruit and then the egg. Mix to combine, then form a ball of dough, using a splash of milk if needed.
2. Roll out the pastry until it is a 5mm/¼in thick and cut into rounds with a 7.5-10cm/3-4in fluted cutter.
3. You now need a bakestone or a heavy iron griddle. Rub it with butter and wipe the excess away. Put it on to a direct heat and wait until it heats up, place the Welsh cakes on the griddle, turning once. They need about 2-3 minutes each side. Each side needs to be caramel brown before turning although some people I know like them almost burnt.
4. Remove from the pan and dust with caster sugar while still warm. Some people leave out the dried fruit, and split them when cool and sandwich them together with jam.
Talking him through the process she relished getting close to him, their hands brushing as she guided him on how to mix the ingredients correctly. Generally pretty cute anyway he looked incredibly sexy with a mixing bowl in his hands although how he managed to make such a mess was beyond her.
‘Remind me to never let you loose in the kitchen with our children’ she muttered as she wiped the table over.
Realising with horror that she had said the words loud enough to be heard she swallowed hard and glanced at the floor.

Yup, that was a cute scene, but an even better one was when Jack and Sue were undercover at a diner, I can't really remember which episode, and Jack said: "We have to stop dating like this". He was pretty cute then because he got all flustered.

Chapter 6
‘Our children?’ he asked softly, ‘you think about our children?’
‘Your children……… I said your children’ she blushed furiously remembering back to his slip up when they were chaperoning Horace and Tara.
‘You said ‘our children’…….. ‘our’…… ‘your’……’our’ …….. ‘your’………. Yeah they sound very different……..’ he grinned happily as his heart pounded wildly, was this the sign he had prayed for?
‘Just cook Hudson…….’ Sue stared at the floor, knowing if she looked in his eyes she’d be sunk and would ignore everything her mom had ever said about waiting for the man to make the first move.
‘We’ll finish this conversation later’ he promised himself silently, giving her the time and space he thought she needed right now.
‘There you go……. easy as pie’ Sue grinned as he placed the last of the cakes on the plate, glowing with a degree of pride that he’d finally made something which looked edible.
‘Or as easy as cakes……… since these aren’t pies….’ he chuckled.
‘True…….. so which of us is on clean-up since we both cooked……’ initially confused he winked as he remembered the undercover marriage and cleaning up each night after a wonderful meal cooked by Sue.
‘I’ll clean if you want to make the coffee….’ he was determined to get the kitchen cleaned up so they could have the time to talk about her throwaway comment. To his surprise she hadn’t run and this gave him hope that they might talk and maybe find some common desires.
Sue nodded and turned to the coffee maker as Jack loaded the dishwasher.
Carrying the mugs of coffee through to the lounge Sue took a seat on the couch waiting for Jack to bring the cakes through.
‘These are great Jack, you did a great job there…….. who knows you might have cracked it by Saturday…….’ she bumbled as he shuffled closer to her on the couch.
‘Sue……….. what you said earlier……. about our children…….. do you think often about our children?’ his voice was low, a very real tremble in it, thankfully only addible to his ears.
‘Errrrrrr…….. Jack…… I said your children’ Sue blushed furiously and inwardly berated herself for that simple slip of the tongue.
‘I do……….’ he whispered, his thumb caressing her knuckles as he spoke.
‘You do?’ she squeaked.
‘Yeah………. most nights, weekends………. Sometimes I see a little girl with blonde hair and wonder if our daughter would look like that or if she’d have dark brown hair……….’
‘Jack………’ she whispered, gasping as he bent his head a little and kissed her on the tip of her nose.
‘You had some flour’ he murmured as she moved away in confusion.
‘Oh……’ her words were cut off as he moved again whispering something she couldn’t read.
‘And here……..’ this time his lips made contact with hers as his arms moved to hold her to him.
Surprised and thrilled Sue responded immediately, groaning in to the kiss and shuddering as he slipped his tongue past her teeth to thoroughly explore her mouth.
Forgetting how to think she responded by running her hands up his arms, resting them in the dark brown hair and allowing her fingers to gently scrape his scalp.
Emboldened by her response Jack deepened the kiss, applying more pressure to her lips and exploring the softness of her mouth more fully as she took his lead and her tongue began to dance with his.
As memories of their first kiss were thrown to the wind Jack wrapped one arm around her shoulder while the other hand ran through her hair.
Finally drawing away to pull in some much needed air their eyes met and simultaneously they signed ‘WOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW’

‘You dreamt about another kiss?’ he asked softly, taking in her mussed up hair and swollen lips as well as the rosy blush she now wore.
‘Dreamt about a kiss even before we had one……. although I guess that doesn’t count since it was undercover, and you were married to Tara……….. but yes I’ve dreamed of kisses, of being held in your arms and not just because I’m hurting over something or in danger………’ the blush increased and she hoped he wasn’t going to ask what else she had dreamed of.
‘So maybe we’d better work on making some of those dreams come true’ he suggested winking at her and laughing when she groaned and slapped his arm.
‘Is that a ‘yes’ then?’ he asked, leaning in to kiss her again when she nodded silently.
‘Jack……… where do we go from here?’ she asked as they sat snuggled on the couch much later, ‘I mean…… this is what we both want, it’s what I’ve wanted almost since I met you….. but there are the rules…… the ones which say we can’t be together and work for the same team……..’
‘I know……… but for now it’s no big deal……… the fact that we are now dating if you want to call it that……. it doesn’t change the way I’m going to work with you…….. I’ve loved you for so long and I’ve always known I would put my life on the line for you………. I think for now we continue as we always have done…… except now I can hold your hand or put my arm around your shoulder, I can walk you to your door instead of leaving you at the entrance to your apartment block, kiss you goodnight instead of watching you walk away and wishing I’d kissed you…… now I can tell you I love you when you can read it instead of when your back is turned………..’

‘But at the cook-off……. Crash thinks Eleanor wants me…… as more than hunk of the month……. I was kinda hoping you’d go undercover with me….. pretend we were together, fight her off for me………….’
‘So you want a body guard huh?’ she teased.

‘Dinner, movie, dog walking, deaf club, little bookworm………’
‘I think that’s a fair price’ he nodded glancing at his watch and groaning.
‘Sue, it’s 1 in the morning, I think you should go before Lucy sends out a search party…… I’ll walk Levi with you and walk you to your car……..’
Waving her off an hour later he returned to his apartment a spring in his step. Grabbing a welsh cake he headed to the bedroom to dream again of a life with the woman he loved and who loved him back.

Chapter 7
Almost bouncing in to the pen the following morning Jack placed a plate of cakes by the coffee machine before switching on the machine and chuckling, he could see him and Bobby having a good natured competition now he had finally cracked this whole cooking thing.
‘Morning Sparky, you’re looking very pleased with yourself’ Bobby wore a big grin as he ambled over to the coffee machine and added his offerings to Jacks’
‘I am now I cracked the cookie bake and……….’
‘And?’ Bobby prompted, jabbing Jack in the ribs with his elbow.
‘And………. you have to keep this quiet……… Sue and I are now dating…….’ He glanced around to check no-one else was present.
‘Wow that was quick……… did she whack you around the head with a rolling pin?’ Bobby chuckled.
‘No……….’ he grinned, memories of the kiss flooding his mind.
‘You’re not going to tell are you?’ Bobby asked.
‘No…….. but keep it quiet ok?’
‘Sure…….. no worries mate…….. at least you’ll always know she’s not after you for your cooking skills……’ Bobby picked up a Welsh cake before slapping Jack on the shoulder.
‘These aren’t bad Sparky’ he mumbled through a mouthful of crumbs.
‘Bobby…….. this calendar…….. how does Tara feel about you posing without a shirt if you get through…….?’
‘I did suggest I pull out but as she pointed out, it’s only a calendar and she gets the real thing……… but unlike you I’m not assured of getting through…….’ Bobby dived from his desk back to the plates of goodies.
‘Don’t………..’ Jack glared at him.
‘What? Eleanor has the hots for you……… you could turn up with cookies which wouldn’t appear out of place in King Arthurs’ kitchen and she would still push you through to the final………’
Jack wrinkled his brow in confusion.
‘King Arthur the Great………. Old king of England, burnt his cakes on a fire……… don’t know what else he did but I do remember he burnt his cakes, buns, cookies whatever you like to call them, henceforward known as King Arthur the Grate……..’
Jack threw up his hands in frustration before turning to pour himself and Bobby a mug of creosote which didn’t detract from the taste of the cakes.
‘Morning ladies………..’ he and Bobby looked up as the girls entered the pen, followed by Myles and D, all of whom leapt on the food sitting by the coffee machine.
‘You made these?’ D asked lifting a cake up and looking at Jack.
He nodded slightly, ‘Sue and I made them…..an old family recipe handed down from her welsh ancestors………. She talked me through it but tonight I’m flying solo…….’
‘So more burnt offerings then’ Myles muttered.
‘No……….. she’s supervising so I have it right on Saturday………’ Jack chuckled, winking at Sue who glanced at the floor to hide her blushes.
‘Aaaaaah……….’ Myles nodded knowingly ‘and are we to assume that she is to be your bodyguard…….. your ‘girlfriend’ to ward off the evil clutches of Miss Eleanor Rippendorf?’
He glanced around the pen as Sue blushed furiously and Tara and Lucy chuckled, ‘what? What did I miss?’ he asked.
‘Nothing Myles, Sue and I had agreed that for the duration of the cook-off we would pretend to be an item’ Jack confirmed, flapping his hand so sue knew he was speaking.
‘You didn’t tell us’ Luce accused.
‘Didn’t know I had to’ Sue answered, heading for the coffee maker, stunned when Jack beat her to it and handed her a mug of fluid laced with sugar to make it taste better.
‘THANK YOU’ she signed winking at him and grinning as he blushed slightly.
‘YOU’RE WELCOME’ he gently squeezed her hand as he passed by to sit at his desk and begin work on the pile of files begging for his attention.
‘So what happens when Eleanor learns you haven’t made cookies?’ D asked, torn between another lamington or welsh cake.
‘Hopefully she doesn’t put us forward for the next round’ the two friends answered in unison.
‘That won’t happen’ Myles murmured, ‘she won’t be happy until she gets her claws in to special agent Hudson, I don’t think she’s forgiven Sue for losing him at the auction…….’
Jack cast Myles a dark look and winked shyly at Sue, aching to hold her in his arms and kiss her senseless.
‘Well I hope if one of you gets to grace the calendar and the other doesn’t it won’t ruin your friendship’ D chuckled.
‘Won’t be a problem mate…….. I’m sure I’ll still count Jack as a good friend even when people stop me in the streets and ask me to sign the calendar’ Bobby chuckled as Jack cast him a withering look.
‘Of course we might have problems getting his swollen head out the door’ Tara grinned as Bobby groaned, she knew how to keep his feet firmly on the floor.

‘Morning Sparky, you’re looking very pleased with yourself’ Bobby wore a big grin as he ambled over to the coffee machine and added his offerings to Jacks’
‘I am now I cracked the cookie bake and……….’
‘And?’ Bobby prompted, jabbing Jack in the ribs with his elbow.
‘And………. you have to keep this quiet……… Sue and I are now dating…….’ He glanced around to check no-one else was present.
‘Wow that was quick……… did she whack you around the head with a rolling pin?’ Bobby chuckled.
‘No……….’ he grinned, memories of the kiss flooding his mind.
‘You’re not going to tell are you?’ Bobby asked.
‘No…….. but keep it quiet ok?’
‘Sure…….. no worries mate…….. at least you’ll always know she’s not after you for your cooking skills……’ Bobby picked up a Welsh cake before slapping Jack on the shoulder.
‘These aren’t bad Sparky’ he mumbled through a mouthful of crumbs.
‘Bobby…….. this calendar…….. how does Tara feel about you posing without a shirt if you get through…….?’
‘I did suggest I pull out but as she pointed out, it’s only a calendar and she gets the real thing……… but unlike you I’m not assured of getting through…….’ Bobby dived from his desk back to the plates of goodies.
‘Don’t………..’ Jack glared at him.
‘What? Eleanor has the hots for you……… you could turn up with cookies which wouldn’t appear out of place in King Arthurs’ kitchen and she would still push you through to the final………’
Jack wrinkled his brow in confusion.
‘King Arthur the Great………. Old king of England, burnt his cakes on a fire……… don’t know what else he did but I do remember he burnt his cakes, buns, cookies whatever you like to call them, henceforward known as King Arthur the Grate……..’
Jack threw up his hands in frustration before turning to pour himself and Bobby a mug of creosote which didn’t detract from the taste of the cakes.
‘Morning ladies………..’ he and Bobby looked up as the girls entered the pen, followed by Myles and D, all of whom leapt on the food sitting by the coffee machine.
‘You made these?’ D asked lifting a cake up and looking at Jack.
He nodded slightly, ‘Sue and I made them…..an old family recipe handed down from her welsh ancestors………. She talked me through it but tonight I’m flying solo…….’
‘So more burnt offerings then’ Myles muttered.
‘No……….. she’s supervising so I have it right on Saturday………’ Jack chuckled, winking at Sue who glanced at the floor to hide her blushes.
‘Aaaaaah……….’ Myles nodded knowingly ‘and are we to assume that she is to be your bodyguard…….. your ‘girlfriend’ to ward off the evil clutches of Miss Eleanor Rippendorf?’
He glanced around the pen as Sue blushed furiously and Tara and Lucy chuckled, ‘what? What did I miss?’ he asked.
‘Nothing Myles, Sue and I had agreed that for the duration of the cook-off we would pretend to be an item’ Jack confirmed, flapping his hand so sue knew he was speaking.
‘You didn’t tell us’ Luce accused.
‘Didn’t know I had to’ Sue answered, heading for the coffee maker, stunned when Jack beat her to it and handed her a mug of fluid laced with sugar to make it taste better.
‘THANK YOU’ she signed winking at him and grinning as he blushed slightly.
‘YOU’RE WELCOME’ he gently squeezed her hand as he passed by to sit at his desk and begin work on the pile of files begging for his attention.
‘So what happens when Eleanor learns you haven’t made cookies?’ D asked, torn between another lamington or welsh cake.
‘Hopefully she doesn’t put us forward for the next round’ the two friends answered in unison.
‘That won’t happen’ Myles murmured, ‘she won’t be happy until she gets her claws in to special agent Hudson, I don’t think she’s forgiven Sue for losing him at the auction…….’
Jack cast Myles a dark look and winked shyly at Sue, aching to hold her in his arms and kiss her senseless.
‘Well I hope if one of you gets to grace the calendar and the other doesn’t it won’t ruin your friendship’ D chuckled.
‘Won’t be a problem mate…….. I’m sure I’ll still count Jack as a good friend even when people stop me in the streets and ask me to sign the calendar’ Bobby chuckled as Jack cast him a withering look.
‘Of course we might have problems getting his swollen head out the door’ Tara grinned as Bobby groaned, she knew how to keep his feet firmly on the floor.

I can just picture Jack submitting those and Eleanor still trying to hang all over him and pushing him through. I think she'd do anything to get a look at that chest... of course, who wouldn't?

This is great Cath! I'm loving the teasing and am really hoping we get a peek at Elenor seeing Jack and Sue as an item, a very close item.

Chapter 8
Closing the file which he’d finally finished reading after hours of Sue gazing Jack rose to his feet, ‘you want to grab some lunch and walk Levi?’ he asked softly, signing as he spoke.
‘I could do lunch’ she nodded rising to her feet and slipping out quickly before anyone could join them.
Hiding behind a tree away from any passers-by Jack pulled her in to his arms as Levi chased the scent of squirrels wildly.
‘Do you have any idea how often I’ve wanted to hold you and kiss you this morning?’ he asked softly as they parted for air.
‘As often as I’ve wanted it I guess’ Sue whispered, snuggling closer in to his embrace, ‘this is going to be so hard Jack, I’ve wanted this for so long and now I want to shout from the rooftops that Jack Hudson loves me……’
‘I know, I want to tell the world but for now we have to keep it quiet….. I’m sorry sweetheart………’ he caressed her cheeks tenderly, feeling again the soft skin against his roughened fingers.
‘You’re right Jack, it’s just hard to keep quiet…….. Tara was telling us about her and Bobby and she was so excited…….. after she’d sworn us to secrecy again…….I wanted to tell them but I didn’t I kept it quiet……….’
Jack blushed furiously and he glanced at the ground, squealing as Sue slapped him, ‘you told Bobby didn’t you?’
He nodded quietly before lifting his head, ‘he knew something was up when I bounced in to work…….. he said I looked like Tigger on speed…….. I couldn’t hide it so I told him but I’ve sworn him to secrecy……. So I guess you’d better tell the girls…….’ his head dipped and he kissed her softly, increasing the pressure as she moaned his name and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
Pulling back a little he chuckled as she moaned in protest, ‘Hudson’ he snapped, ‘hi mom……… yeah you did get me at a bad time…….. talking to Sue………. Yeah I think you could say I’m cooking now…………. Sure, you know you and dad are welcome any time and at least I have time to clean up………….. yeah I’ll meet you at the airport……… that is a closely guarded secret…… you’ll find out on Saturday if I’ve perfected it by then……. yes Sue has been teaching me…….. she’s a good teacher I’m not sure I’m much of a pupil though….. she has her work cut out……… yup, dinner every night before we start cooking………. sure I’ll ask her……….. you want me to ask her now ok…..’ he covered his phone and gazed at Sue who had been following the conversation, ‘mom and dad would like to take us out for dinner on Saturday…….. after the cook-off………..she thinks I’m only gonna buy take-out this week, so what do you say?’
‘It’s sweet of her but you don’t get to see them often, you guys have some family time together……..’
‘She says yes…….’ Jack informed his mom, squealing as Sue slapped him, ‘I said no……..’
