There are many anniversaries in our lives....some are happy: wedding anniversaries, anniversary of a first date, high school reunions (okay, that one could go either way!); some are sad: anniversary of a death or the breakup of a relationship, someone moving away. To celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of RomanceFanFiction.net on August 21st, we're kicking off an original challenge with an anniversary theme.

The challenge is to build your story around an anniversary of your choosing (the ones mentioned above are just examples, so feel free to use others!) and complete it in one month's time. We're giving everyone a sneak peek for now, and the actual challenge will be launched on August 21st, ending on September 21st at midnight in your location. Just a few guidelines to keep in mind as you write:

*Because this challenge will only last one month, we will limit entries to one per author.

*Your story must use characters from STFBE, but it can be Alternate Universe or a crossover with another series if you wish.

*Your story must be a standalone. It may use characters from another story, but it must stand entirely on its own, making complete sense to the reader without reference to or reading of the other story.

*If your story qualifies for the "Mini Story or Scene" category, please post your word count in your final post.

To enter, create a title and place your name after the title you have chosen. In the description line please indicate the rating of your story and the anniversary of your choice. An example:
Days Gone By - justme_jp3
TOPIC DESCRIPTION: PG13, wedding anniversary

The following categories will be voted on:

1. Most Nostalgic
2. Most Smoldering Romance (J/S pairing)
3. Most Sizzling Romance (other pairing)
4. Best Comedy
5. Best New Writer (no more than one story or scene on board previous to posting)
6. Best Original Character
7. Best Tearjerker
8. Best 'Page-turner'
9. Best Use of Anniversary as theme
10. Best Mini Story or Scene (500-1000 words)
11. Favorite Overall

We'd like to dedicate this special challenge to so many who have given so much over the past three years and helped make this site possible. Some are no longer able to be a constant presence due to schedules and changing interests, etc., but we still appreciate them all for their contributions. ghug.gif

We hope everyone enjoys the challenge!! fireworks.gif

Something not clear in the guidelines? Or maybe you thought of something that wasn't covered...ask your question here and one of the mods of this forum or an admin will answer it for you. smile.gif

Hi,

Ok, this may be a stupid question, or two stupid questions, actually, but
1) Can we write a song fic for this challenge?
2) If we can, would the lyrics of the song count in the word count for the story?

Thanks,
Tracy
TinaLynne
Nope, no stupid questions! You can definitely write a song fic for this challenge, and the lyrics of the song would be included in your word count total. smile.gif

If Iwant to use an idea from a comic strip, or somethign like that, what do i need to do to not plagerize the other person's work?
TinaLynne
Basically, if you are using characters from a certain comic strip, you'll just need to acknowledge which one they're from and who created them. Any storylines used involving those characters must be your own creation and not ones that were created by the comic strip author. Here is a definition of plagiarism that I found on wikipedia.com:
QUOTE
Plagiarism (from Latin plagiare "to kidnap") is the practice of claiming, or implying, original authorship or incorporating material from someone else's written or creative work, in whole or in part, into one's own without adequate acknowledgement. Unlike cases of forgery, in which the authenticity of the writing, document, or some other kind of object, itself is in question, plagiarism is concerned with the issue of false attribution.

Hope that helps!

Yes that does help, adn thank you. I appreciate it. In my story I am not using the characters from it but got the idea for a piece of it from a comic strip. Before i post that piece I will warn that the idea came from the comic strip.

One more question: If for some reason I want to fix this story and make it better after the challenge is over can i do that?

Thanks!
TinaLynne
Because your story is being submitted as part of our challenge, you will not be able to go back later and make any changes. What I would recommend is that you ask someone to beta read it as you post, pointing out any errors and helping you to smooth it out. You've still got a few weeks, so take your time. smile.gif
