Chapter 21
‘Hi, I missed you last night’ Jack waited until they were out of sight of her apartment block in case Lucy was spying on them before kissing her softly.
‘Missed you too hun,’ she wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders, deepening the kiss as she did so, it had been a long night.
‘Any questions from Lucy?’
Sue shook her head, ‘she was in bed when I got home and I left before she got up. I left her a note to say I’d see her at work….. I hope you’re providing breakfast?’
‘Yup, Starbucks. I thought we could take coffee and pastries in for the team, occupy them while we talk to D.’
‘Well, well, look who finally decided to show up’ Myles slightly sarcastic tone rang out across the pen as they entered, Levi padding along behind eager for the pastry Jack had promised him.
‘How was the conference?’ Bobby asked, feigning interest.
‘More importantly, how was the sight seeing?’ Luce asked as Tara nodded enthusiastically.
‘It was good, we went to the Falls, they are spectacular aren’t they Jack?’
‘Sure are’ he nodded.
‘Anything new to tell us?’ Tara asked as she and Lucy cornered Sue by her desk.
‘Nope, Jack, do you have D’s coffee and pastry? He wants the notes from the conference ASAP’
‘Best not disappoint him then’ Jack agreed ‘we’ll see you later guys.’
Chuckling he tapped Sue’s arm, ’Lucy’s just let out an ear-splitting scream, I think she is a little frustrated by us.’
‘Maybe it’s a good thing I’m deaf, I think she’ll scream the place down when we tell her’ she smiled.
‘D….. we brought supplies and the notes…… and we need to talk to you’ Jack waved the coffee and pastries under D’s nose, grinning as their supervisor snatched them from his hand, indicating the two seats by the desk.
‘Good conference?’
‘It had it’s good points’ Jack conceded trying to suppress his smile.
‘The conference or the down time?’ D teased, very aware from their body language that something had happened between them.
‘Both, but mostly the down time……’ Jack looked to Sue who squeezed his hand reassuringly.
‘You finally told each other?’ D chuckled, ‘about time…….’
‘We did and…… I asked Sue to marry me and she said yes…… we’re planning on getting married as soon as possible. I figure I wasted enough time already.’
‘Well I’m not gonna argue with that’ D chuckled, ‘congratulations, you two are good for each other….. I’m thrilled and I know Donna will be, you told the team yet?’
‘No, we wanted to talk to you first, talk about who should transfer, what openings are available……. one of the few things, in fact the only thing we haven’t agreed on is who should move. I think it should be me, Jack says it should be him…….’
‘Leave it with me, I’ll go talk to the AD, I think we could possibly work something out so neither of you has to move….. if you don’t have any plans, I’d like for us to take you out to dinner tonight to celebrate.’
‘Thanks, that would be good, appreciate the thought.’
Shaking Jack by the hand and hugging Sue, D opted to return to the pen with them.
‘D, what brings you to the belly of the beast?’ Bobby bellowed as they entered the pen.
‘Just wanted to make sure you guys weren’t slacking off’ D answered, grinning broadly as Jack called for everyone’s attention.
‘We wanted to let you know….. tell you together…. while we were away….. I asked Sue to marry me and she said…….’
‘YESYES YES……..’ Lucy squealed.
‘Not quite…… she only said yes’ Jack chuckled as Sue disappeared beneath the enthusiastic hugs of her two best friends.
‘Congratulations Spark….’ Bobby slapped him on the arm, concern on his face as he yelped in pain.
‘You ok?’ he asked.
‘Yeah, got cut helping make an arrest’ jack answered softly, clutching the wound.
‘Sorry, congratulations though, it’s about time……’ Bobby pulled him in for a manly hug and slapped him o the back as Myles waited to shake his hand.
‘All I can add is ‘finally’ Myles grinned, glancing over at the women who were all crying and admiring the ring.
‘It’s beautiful Sue, and so unusual,’ Tara gasped, ‘where did you find it?’
‘A small store in Toronto, we bought the wedding rings too.’ Sue explained.
‘It is beautiful’ Lucy agreed, ‘it’s an antique isn’t it?’
‘Over a hundred years old’ Jack stated, winking at Sue before he too disappeared between Tara and Lucy’s enthusiastic congratulations while Myles and Bobby hugged Sue and kissed her warmly on the cheek.
‘I want details…… what happened?’ Lucy demanded.
‘We met a couple who made us realise that what we had, our friendship, was good but what we wanted and what we could have would be even better…’ he hoped Lucy wouldn’t press for more details, if they mentioned having gone back in time they would be given medical leave.
‘I’d love to meet them, congratulate them for achieving what I’ve been pushing you towards for over 4 years’ Lucy commented, admiring Sue’s ring again.
‘They live in Toronto, I doubt we’ll meet them again’ Jack mumbled.
‘So, have you set the date?’ Tara asked softly.
‘As soon as possible’ Sue smiled.
‘I vote we take them out for dinner tonight’ Myles suggested.
‘What about the policy?’ Lucy asked suddenly, as much as she wanted them together she hated the thought of the team splitting, they were a good team because they cared about each other and every person in the team was central to that effective working.
‘I’m looking in to having it revoked’ D answered, ‘I’m hopeful….’
‘I’m moving teams if not…..’ Jack and Sue looked at each other as they spoke simultaneously, rolling their eyes in frustration, wondering who would win that particular discussion.

I say these two should have a kissing contest to see who will win this particular conversation! All their conversations, for that matter!
Lucy actually took the news better than I expected. I figured she'd be a splat on the floor; having fained dead away!

D's smart... and I'm sure he can find a loophole that the AD could agree with.
And Cath, I know what you meant, it was just the way you said it. Only his arm... not the best choice of words for us Yannick/Jack fans.

Well, that went very well!! Lucy didn't TOTALLY scream the Hoover building down!!!
I have a feeling that D is going to be successful and our two favorite people will get to stay together!! If not, it's sure going to be fun watching them decide who should transfer!!!

Cath, I saw that all playing out in my mind! My ears are still ringing with Lucy's screams! And now Jack and Sue are actually saying the same things at the same time!

It must be love.

Thanks for sticking with me, the team won't meet Will and Amy in this story, maybe in another?
Chapter 22
Jack bit back the tears which pooled in his eyes. They had been married for 16 months and it had surpassed all his expectations. D had worked his magic with the AD pointing out how well the team worked together, explaining that he’d been aware of their mutual attraction almost from day one and never had any concerns about the impact on the rest of the team before promising that he would take personal responsibility for any issues which might arise.
There hadn’t been any and soon after Bobby and Tara had started to date, marrying three months ago.
The team had rallied to help organise the wedding in 7 weeks, the earliest date the church was available. He and Sue had rushed through the pre-marital counselling, alongside working a heavy case which had been closed only 4 days before the wedding.
Both sets of parents had visited, his had fallen in love with Sue and she with them. Her dad had been very diligent, as had her brothers, in ensuring he was serious and would treat her right. To his relief he’d passed with flying colours then chuckled as Sue told each of them that she was the one marrying him and while she appreciated their concern it was her who was marrying him not them and she was more than capable of making her own decisions. Each of them had apologised profusely and backed off, thoroughly chastened.
The day of the wedding had gone smoothly with his mom and Sue’s managing any last minute hitches which may have come up, not that either of them had been aware of any hitches.
They’d kept it simple, inviting family and the people who meant so much to them to share their day.
For the first time he’d wondered whether he should try to find his birth mom just to let he know he was happy but it wasn’t something he’d dwelled on much since that day.
They’d moved in to their 4 bedroom house two months after the wedding and now it was very much a home.
Despite having returned to his apartment every night until they moved, they had both been moved to tears the first night they drove to their house from work.
The two week honeymoon had been spent in Toronto, not that they saw much of the city, spending most of their time in the honeymoon suite but they’d made it a priority to revisit the Falls and the Pioneer Village but thankfully hadn’t gone back in time on this visit.
5 months pregnant on their anniversary Sue had left work early and made him his favourite meal while he’d taken her out for dinner and dancing on the Saturday night, relishing the feel of her bump pressing against him as he held her tightly.
‘You ok hun?’ her soft voice broke through his thoughts and he gazed down at her curled up on the bed.
‘Yeah, just giving thanks for you and James.’ he whispered, caressing her cheek with his hand.
Their son was snuggled against her suckling contentedly as she ran a finger tenderly over his cheek.
Born with a mop of dark hair and deep brown eyes he was the image of his dad, just as Sue had predicted he would be.
‘I thank God for you every day’ she whispered, ‘and for that divine encounter we had with Will and Amy.’
‘It was wasn’t it? A divine encounter……’ often he’d wondered if they’d imagined the whole thing but then he’d look at their rings, and feel the livid scar present on his arm and he knew it hadn’t been a dream, an overactive imagination or some kind of chance encounter but had been a divine kick up the butt.
‘It was’ she squeezed his hand tenderly, the love he showed her knew no bounds and Sue knew his love for his son would be endless.
‘I’ve been thinking…. maybe it will be fruitless…… and I don’t want to hurt mom and dad…..’
‘You want to find your mom?’
‘Yeah….. now we have James I think I want to know where I came from…. but not if it’s gonna hurt mom and dad…..’
‘You won’t…….’ Sue moved and placed James on her other breast, ‘they know they will always be your parents, I think since we married they’ve known you’ll make this decision…..’
Hearing a knock on the door Jack opened it slowly, ensuring Sue had her privacy.
‘Give us 10 minutes?’ he asked, grinning as the team stood before him.
Calling them in when Sue had fed and changed James he sat on the edge of the bed, ‘guys we’d like you to meet James William Hudson….’
Wrapping an arm around her shoulder they watched proudly as James was cuddled and cooed over by their friends.

Brilliant and fun story Cath, how you brought Jack and Sue together with Wil and Amy. Loved the ending, so sweet and tender with little baby James William Hudson.
I agree, a sequel could surely spring forth from this. Very interesting Jack feels the need to meet his birth mother. Could it be that Wil and Jack have the same mother and she was just to old to take care of Jack and had to give him up

New babies are so wonderful! I have to admit I really didn't get into the Murdoch series - read the first book, and they're well done, the setting was just a bit much for me right now. But very creative to merge ST with Murdoch this way! Nice job!

Ch 21 – Post # 254 – Finally getting caught up Cath after my laptop crash, travelling to KS, my niece’s wedding and Thanksgiving. I think I’m going to have some breathing room now.
I’m so happy D thinks he might be able to revoke the no-dating rule and keep Jack and Sue on the same team.
Ch 22 – Post #269 – Oh, no! It’s over? Married and a baby named after Will. How sweet and very appropriate!

That was a devine story, Cath! I loved how you combined the characters of ST with Yannick’s new show. It was so realistic and Will and Amy were just the touch Jack and Sue needed to reveal their feelings. I loved the way Jack used the masquerade as a couple to outwardly express his feelings for Sue and how she went along with him, wishing it were true and then reveling in the fact of it. A masterful story, as always, from you! And Jack was only cut a little on the arm! Again, a terrific ride, Cath, and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to finish reading along with everyone else. But better late than never!
Now, there was a lot left unsaid, so I hope you’re planning on a sequel…so we, along with Jack, can find out about his birth parents and maybe meet the current heir of Will and Amy? Maybe Jack will find out that he is related to Will?
