Will add more later! But promised Gerswhin I would finish my protest letter and e mail Hallmark! This site keeps you busy! Or is it just me?
Tuesday 16th December
“Jack. Bobby. Can I see you in my office? I have a new assignment for you.” D. motioned to them to follow as he strode through the bullpen.
“Woo hoo. What do you reckon Jack? Murder? Terrorists? May even be a Serial Killer.” Bobby was practically alight with enthusiasm.
“To coin a phrase, you say all of those like they are a good thing Bobby!” Jack was as equally enthusiastic, but some how it didn’t seem right to be too happy about some of the things they had to deal with at the FBI.
Jack and Bobby sat down in the chairs at the front of D.s desk. “ Here we go, came down from the Directors office itself. Special request for Agent Hudson and Agent Manning. There is a bunch of raw recruits being sent up from Quantico this morning at 10.am.” D. looked at his watch he had deliberately left this until near enough the specified time. He didn’t want to give Jack and Bobby anyway leeway to protest or mysteriously disappear “They are here to observe and to learn the basics of case work and they are yours for the whole day!”
“No D, this can’t be happening. Surely the FBI has something better for us highly trained agents to be doing?” Jack was more than disgruntled.
“No all the other units are swamped. Your recruits will be in the conference room in three minutes and I have a meeting.” D started to gather some papers up off his desk.
“So if all the other teams are swamped, why aren’t we helping them out?” Jack was a little puzzled. He’d actually been out of the office by 5.30 every day for the past 2 weeks.
“Apparently we’ve met our quota” D. made a swift exit he knew what Jack was thinking.
“Since when did we have to fill quotas?” Jack looked at Bobby he was unusually quiet.
“I blame Sue myself, since she joined the team which just been far too successful.” Bobby quipped. “After all she is our secret weapon!”
Jack couldn’t help but smile. Bobby saw the smile and knew he had diverted Jack temporarily. “Come on we better go and meet these recruits. Hey shall we take them too the morgue before or after lunch?” Bobby asked with a glint in his eye. “And we really mustn’t forget to teach them how to search a garbage dumpster sometime today.”
“Hey then Myles could give them his speech on dress code and etiquette! After all he did write the manual.” Jack smiled he was definitely going to broaden some horizons today.

Some more
Jack was followed into the bullpen by five very raw recruits. He could have sworn that one of them hadn’t started shaving yet! It made him wonder if he had looked so young and innocent. Although he had joked with Bobby about giving them some interesting experiences, he also knew they needed training, He had always taken his training responsibilities seriously, which was probably why he had been given today’s task.
Jack started to introduce everyone. “This is Tara our resident computer genius. This is Lucy, who will no doubt tell you she runs the office. This is Sue our secret weapon and this is Myles Leyland III..” Jack pondered for a few second he had introduced the team each with their specialities what could he say about Myles “Of course Myles will be lecturing you on his speciality later..something to look forward to there then.” Myles smiled, not quite sure what Jack had meant but he had seemed favourable.
“Ok Bobby and I are going to take you through a recent case and show you how we set up the board. You may think that having a pin board or whiteboard in today’s high tech world is a little obsolete, but it pays to have a visual picture, an overview as the case builds. Especially when the team are bouncing around theories. Ok gather round and I will show you what I mean.”
The recruits formed a semi circle in front of the board. Bobby stood behind them. His mobile had rung and he hadn’t really been tuning into Jack. Jack glanced at the board, he didn’t want to remove Myles ongoing fraud case work from it. Without really looking he flipped it over, and started digging in the closed case file box, for photos of the victims. Jack found a photo of the victim. Not very pleasant but he didn’t think it would make anyone faint.
Jack held up the picture “This is our victim. Blonde, 22 years old student at the university she was found with her throat slit, on campus on the night of 6th November 2004.” Jack informed them very seriously, although by the recruit’s response he was vaguely aware he didn’t have their full attention. “Usually the FBI wouldn’t deal with murder, but this case was different because….” The recruits had started to snigger, and Bobby was signalling to Myles. Jack knew he was missing something but what? As I was saying we were passed this case from DCPD because there had been a spate of …..”
“Bobby did you want to add something?” Jack asked frustratedly.
“No No you’re doing just fine Jack” Bobby then grinned at him inanely.
“As I was saying we believed that there was a serial killer so we start with our victims and work backwards.” Jack turned around to face the board. Myles was behind him with a cloth in his hand obstructing the way.
“Myles move out the way” Jack said despairingly through gritted teeth.
As Myles moved Jack saw his picture on the whiteboard. With a huge label stuck underneath it. Which read Jack Hudson is finally getting married Vote here for your favourite stag night option! Below the label were the suggestions
Jack read the options:
Get drunk! Get naked! Get arrested! And someone had added the note that Diana Groves had volunteered to pick him up.
Bar Crawl the 21 favourite FBI hangouts in the metro area then the 80’s night at Zanzibars Lap Dancing Paradise
Strippergramme at Jacks favourite pizza restaurant
Cover Jack with treacle and feathers after night of ladies mud wrestling at the Swamp.
At the bottom of the board another label said see Bobby to sign up!
Jack quickly turned the board over trying not to look embarassed. Bobby had vanished along with Myles He cleared his throat “ Has anyone got any questions about whiteboard procedure?”
One of the recruits put his hand up tentatively. Jack nodded for him to go ahead.
“Can we get the addresses of the 21 bars where the FBI agents hang out?” Jack glared and the recruit added, “For educational purposes of course?”

Just read the whole thing, Mentor...this story is crazy funny!

I really love it so far. My favourite part had to be the scene when Tara and Myles are sampling wedding cake, yet you don't let us in on what they're doing right away. Absolutely priceless!! I love the way you write all of the different relationships in this story. Can't wait for more!

Tuesday 16th December continued.....
Jack thought for a moment, then said to the recruits “Follow me.” Then he disappeared down the corridor.
Sue immediately turned to Lucy “ Bobby isn’t seriously going to do, or make Jack do any of those things on his stag night is he?” she looked really worried.
“I doubt it. They’re all pretty chauvinistic aren’t they? Jacks changed since he met you. I would hate to be Bobby at this moment!” She added with a grin.
Sue had another thought “What exactly have you got planned for me Lucy?”
“What would you like me to have planned Sue?” Lucy asked with a smile. So far the best idea she had come up with was a nice meal, a good film and a bottle of wine. The problem was they all hung out together so often, or worked late or missed various social functions because of their jobs that good friends were hard to come by. “It’s only you, me, and Tara” Lucy said apologetically, “Unless we ask Charlie and Troy and Bobby may have beat us to it!”
“That’s fine by me, I’ve been so busy hanging out with the team and Jack, I haven’t really made that many girl friends! Although I do have an idea, but I need to talk to Jack first. But I think I will leave him be for the time being!” Sue could see him coming down the corridor from Lucy’s desk. He had managed to ditch the recruits but he still looked pretty cross. He obviously hadn’t caught up with Bobby or Myles.
“Yep that would be a good decision” Lucy said. She then focused on her keyboard as Jack walked by.
Jack sat down at his desk, and then almost immediately looked over at Sue. What must she be thinking? He thought to himself Sue looked across at him and gave him a smile and a wink. He wanted to stay cross but one look at Sue and he couldn’t.
“ Hey Jack this just arrived for you” Lucy handed him an envelope. “Special delivery” Jack looked at the envelope and was surprised that the sender was Thomas.
“Hey you don’t have to write to me you know I see you everyday at work!” He joked.
“It’s not from me Jack but I do have a present that I’ll give to you later.” Sue winked at him then added “In private!” Jack raised his eyebrows in question, looked at the envelope and decided to open it.
Inside he found a letter and a cheque. He read the letter and then looked at the cheque. Sue looked carefully at Jacks face wondering what his expression meant. “Jack?”
“Its from your father apologising for your mothers outrageous behaviour the other night. Says he could not think of anyone better than me to marry you. And he also says it’s a fathers prerogative to pay for his daughters wedding.” Jack showed Sue the cheque and passed her the letter. She was moved by her fathers acceptance of Jack and the fact that he wanted to pay for the whole wedding.
“What do you think?” Sue asked Jack.
“It’s a very nice gesture. And I’m glad at least one of your parents approves of me!” He teased. “But It’s up to you if we accept the money. It would mean we could put the deposit down on a house straight away. But if you don’t want to, it’s no problem I can pay for the wedding.”
Sue walked to Jacks side of the desk and threw her arms around his neck. “You are a very, very nice man Agent Hudson.” She then lent forward and gave him a lingering kiss, which lasted a little longer than she had intended. She only broke the kiss when she felt a screwed up ball of a paper hit the back of her head. It could only mean one thing Bobby!
“I’ve told you two before. No kissing in the office. The furniture can’t take the strain!” Bobby then strolled off towards the coffee machine.
Jack grabbed the wad of a paper and pelted him back. “I want words with you Manning!” Bobby could tell Sue had worked her magic. He was only going to get half of Jacks wrath now. He would need to come up with an alternative stag night though.
Sue felt herself blush. How on earth did he know about Jacks broken office chair? Jack seemed a little less surprised than her. Surely he wouldn’t have told Bobby! No Jack wouldn’t have. So how did he find out? More to the point who else knew? She would have to ask Jack later.

Tuesday Evening 16th December...
Sue kicked off her shoes and sunk into Jacks sofa. She felt incredibly relaxed, and very content. Jack was making coffee, and apparently was looking forward to his present. Sue giggled to herself, she had desperately searched the Internet for the gift she had in mind and had been thrilled when she had find located it. She had slipped the present behind the sofa waiting for the right moment.
Jack brought a steaming cafetiere and mugs into the sitting room on a tray. He had also grabbed some hand made chocolate hearts wrapped in red foil, and adorned with a little pink ribbons at the market. He had then felt incredibly foolish when Bobby had found them in the trunk of his car. “Jack if I gave Darcy chocolate love hearts, she would think I was having an affair.” Bobby had quipped, but Jack had noticed that there was one missing from the bag when he had opened it. Myles on the other hand had requested the number of the shop and had ordered a whole box full to be delivered to Tara’s apartment later that night, he hoped for Myles sake that Tara wasn’t allergic to chocolate!
“Oh that’s very sweet of you Jack.” Sue said when she saw them.
Jack snuggled up beside her. “For you my darling anything. There’s one for Levi as well.”
“That’s very considerate of you Jack, but I’m watching Levis figure for him. I see I will have to train you when I move in not to give into those big brown eyes!”
“Well if your watching Levi’s figure can I volunteer to watch yours?” Jack teased.
“Excuse me Jackson Hudson, what exactly are you insinuating?” Sue asked indignantly.
“Just asking permission to admire your natural beauty my darling. Infact I look forward to seeing even more of it, in that bikini on our honeymoon!” Jack lent forward to kiss her, but Sue managed to lean out of the way.
“I have that present for you now if you would like it?” Sue said coyly. She reached behind the sofa and produced Jack’s Christmas present. She passed Jack a medium sized box, beautifully wrapped and tied with a green satin ribbon.
Jack smiled, and pulled the ribbon. He carefully unwrapped the paper. He was about to take the top off the box. When Sue put her hand in the way.
“Jack darling. I want you to promise me that you will wear this for me at the earliest opportunity.” Sue's voice was surprisingly husky. Jack raised his eyebrows. Sue had probably bought him, silk boxers, or something similar. That wasn’t going to be a problem.
“For you Sue I promise.” Sue removed her hand from the box, and Jack took the lid off. He removed the tissue paper to find a replica of a man’s Victorian bathing suit. His jaw dropped. It was made in a heavy cotton fabric, with red and white bold stripes. He lifted the entire article out of the box, the legs stretched well below his knees, and to vest like top was oddly shapeless. He opened his mouth to speak but shut it again. Ok he deserved it, he had been a little full on lately. But she had deflated his ego nicely. Then he realised that he had promised her that he would wear it. He couldn't wear that anywhere near the ocean, he would surely drown.
Sue started to giggle. “ The man in the shop said Speedos and thongs were very fashionable for young men nowadays. But I told him how old you are and he suggested this!”
Jack bit his bottom lip, shrugged his shoulders then sighed. She was kidding about him wearing it, right?

Way to go, Sue!!! Now, who was it that said Sue should get an old flannel nightgown? I'm thinking high lace neck, heavy wool material (of course with some kind of lining--we wouldn't want Sue to itch to death), and so long it seems like it has a train.

Wednesday 17th December
"Ok It’s agreed then. Due to the restrictions imposed on us by our illustrious team leader, and the fact the girls only hang out with us.” Bobby winked at Lucy. “We will ditch formal stag and hens nights in favour of a … I can’t believe I have agreed to this. A team spa day!” Bobby shook his head, this was going to be a giant step into the unknown.
“So I will book a number of treatments for the boys and the girls and we can meet for a celebratory lunch. By the end of the day we should all look and feel beautiful, ready for the impending nuptials.” Lucy grinned, she could do some really creative booking here, and the boys were going to experience a thing or two this Sunday.
“So we meet at the Belle Image Spa at 8.00am on Sunday 21st?” D. shook his head his wife was going to love this. Can’t baby-sit the kid’s darling having a spa day!
“Don’t worry D. It’s going to be fine you might even enjoy it!” Sue laughed. “ Lots of men go to spas nowadays even macho FBI agents.” It had been her idea, and she had gathered everyone early to discuss it. Except for Jack of course. She wanted to surprise him with the idea. And of course the opportunity to wear his new bathing costume! She would make sure that Lucy arranged a communal dip in the spa swimming pool.
“Ok then we are all agreed?” Tara smiled to herself, wondering how Myles would look with only a white fluffy bath towel wrapped around his waist. Myles on the other hand was wondering if there was a gym there!
Jack strolled in surprised to find everyone at work so early. “We are all agreed to what?” he asked casually.
“We are agreed on going on a spa day, this Sunday.” Bobby informed him.
“We did?” Jack asked suspiciously.
“Apparently we all need to be relaxed and pampered to put us in the mood!” Myles added sarcastically.
“The mood for what?” Jack asked somewhat confused.
“The wedding Jack. The wedding.” Lucy said despairingly.
“ Apparently we can be pummelled, stretched, and steamed.” D. Looked helplessly at Bobby.
“When they’ve done that Jack, they squirt us with high power water jets, cover us in mud and wrap us in silver foil!” Myles added.
Jack wasn't sure this was such a good idea.
“Don’t look at me like that Jack. You’re the one who banned the Stag night! Now we all get to get in touch with our feminine sides on a Hen day!” Bobby smirked.
“I did not!” Jack said indignantly. “ I just had an aversion to being got drunk and naked in public.”
“There’s always the pool Jack” Sue gave him a coy look and Jack remembered what he had promised.
“You are a wicked lady Sue Thomas and I will get you back for this!” Jack gave her a knowing look.
“I can’t wait” Sue said was very flirtatiously, forgetting where she was. She then added after a slight hesistation “To see you try.”

Thursday 18th December
Sue stood on the small raised platform in the largest store dressing room she had ever been in. She had put on her wedding underwear as instructed by Marge, the elderly sales woman who seemed to have done this a million times before. Sue on the other and felt particularly nervous, and could feel the butterflies whipping up a hurricane in her stomach. Feeling more than a little exposed, she stood there waiting for Marge to materialise. Marge had sent Tara and Lucy off with her junior to get into their bridesmaids dresses, so Sue stood their waiting, feeling incredibly nervous. As five minutes turned into ten, she reflected on the past few weeks. Things had been more than a little chaotic, she couldn’t remember having five minutes to herself. The wedding was one thing and she knew Myles and the team were doing their bests to make it perfect, but what about the marriage. She was going to be married to Jack Hudson for the rest of her life and her brain hadn’t really thought pass the night of the honeymoon. She had agreed to the commitment of marriage and it suddenly occurred to her that she had no idea what that commitment would entail on her side. She had worried about Jack being able to look after her needs, and it suddenly occurred to her she hadn’t considered Jack’s needs at all. She was beginning to feel more than a little panic struck, not to mention a little giddy. As the panic gripped her, she knew she needed to sit down but it was too late Marge game into the dressing room with her wedding gown in her arms.
“Here you are deary. I need to get you to step into it.” Sue complied “And I’ll do all the fixings at the back.” Marge pulled over a small pair of steps and buttoned the dress up. Marge could see Sue’s gentle tremors. “Don’t worry all brides feel like this. You wait until your friends see you.” She gave Sue a reassuring smile.
Sue swallowed hard and took a few deep breaths. She gave Marge a small smile back. Marge smoothed out the roles of fabric, straightened seams, and made the dress flow perfectly. She then took a small tiara out of it’s case and attached a mid length veil to it. She carefully clipped it into place on Sue’s head.
“ There you go, you look simply stunning” Marge said looking satisfied with her efforts. “Ok I’m going to pull back the curtains for your friends to see, and then we will bring the mirrors in.” Sue nodded to show she understood. She thought it was safer not to say anything at all, as her emotions were getting the better of her.
Marge pulled open the curtains, and Sue saw Lucy and Tara stare. They didn’t say a word they just stood their open mouthed.
“See what I said deary.” Marge winked at Sue.
“Sue you look.. look.. spectacular..Wow” Lucy wanted to give her friend a hug but she knew she couldn’t instead she just grinned at her.
“Sue I hope I look as beautiful as you do on my wedding day.You look amazing.” Tara said thoughtfully.
Sue managed to sign thank you.
“Ok we are going to bring the mirrors in the bridehas not yet seen how she looks” Marge said smiling. She loved this part of her job. She wheeled the mirror into place it was covered by a white sheet. “Ready?”
Sue nodded. Marge took the sheet off the mirror and Sue couldn’t believe her eyes. It was beautiful, no it was more than beautiful, it was perfect. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes.
“It’s perfect” She said very croakily “Its just such a shame I can’t marry Jack.” She felt her knees go first, then her eyes hazed over, then everything went black.

A strangely pungent smell wafted and disrupted the peace in Sue’s mind, shifting it from it’s reverie to reality, as she opened her eyes she remembered where she was. She knew she was laying down and that somehow her wedding dress had been removed. She was in a fluffy white bathrobe, and Marge, Lucy and Tara were staring at her. Lucy was saying something, but she couldn’t quite focus enough to work it out. Then it occurred to her if Lucy, Tara and Marge were at the foot of the sofa on which she was lying, who was holding her hand?
She turned her head slowly and Jack came into focus, he gave her a smile and gently ran his finger down her cheek. She gave him a sleepy smile back everything was so hazy. She had been looking at her image in the mirror, the dress had been beautiful, it had been perfect...then the world came screeching back into focus. She had told them that she couldn’t marry Jack, and he was here holding her hand…and she had to get out of here now. She bolted, she had only made it a few yards when Jack who had been initially taken by surprise grabbed her around the waist, halting her progress. Not willing to face him, she had kicked and struggled until Jack had wrestled her to the carpeted floor of the changing room straddled her and pinned her hands above her head.
“Ok Sue I was feeling really sympathetic, before you decided to turn into the runaway bride!” Jack was cross. He had been so worried about her. When Tara had called him to tell him what had happened, his stomach had flipped there and then. He had thrown the red light on top of the car and driven off at such speed, that he had forgotten all about Bobby. Sue pursed her lips and wrinkled her nose but didn’t answer him.
“ So I take it your feeling better huh?” Jack raised his eyebrows expectantly still no answer. Lucy had told him what she had said before she had passed out, he knew this needed to be sorted out here and now!
“So you don’t want to marry me huh? I don’t suppose you could enlighten me to the reason why?” He could see her thinking, and gave her a moment to process.
Sue started shakily “ I ..I … can’t marry you because….I don’t think I will make a very good wife and..”
“Sue that is the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard. I don’t know that I’m going to make a very good husband, but its not going to stop me from trying” He was smiling, this was so Sue. “Is there anything else?”
“I don’t know how to take care of you..” She replied knowing that what she really wanted to tell him was how scary this whole commitment thing was even though she loved him to bits.
“Are you talking about washing my boxers and ironing my shirts sort of care..” Jack answered trying to inject some humour into this conversation “Or the sort of care you give me everyday, just by knowing that you love me.”
Sue tried not to laugh she hadn’t had any thoughts about washing his boxers and socks.
“Sue if it makes you feel better we can go back to the apartment now, and I can teach you how to iron my shirts, fold my pants and polish my shoes. And when we’ve finished that I can show you how to clean the bathroom and…”
“So you think I’m going to be your personal maid when we get married do you Hudson?” Sue began to realise how silly she had been. Jack was probably as scared as she was, but somehow he didn't see it as a problem.
“So you are marrying me Thomas? This was all a big ploy was it? You just wanted to show me off to all the ladies in this wedding shop didn’t you”
“And what if I did?”
“Well we better show them what sort of man your getting for a husband then!” Jack lent forward and began a kiss, which was passionate enough, to make Tara and Lucy look the other way. Marge was busy sniffing her smelling salts, the groom was clearly a passionate man.
Bobby had been directed to the changing room, and tried to analyse the information before him. Tara had told him on his cell that Sue had fainted. Jack had disappeared in car with light flashing. Jack was now on top of Sue giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. It must have been worse than Tara had originally told him he thought!
“Jack mate if you carry on like that any longer, I’m going to have to give you CPR!”

Jack was now on top of Sue giving her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. It must have been worse than Tara had originally told him he thought!
“Jack mate if you carry on like that any longer, I’m going to have to give you CPR!”

Mentor, thank you for that lovely post!!! Ahem, I take back the thoughts I had earlier after Sue fainted...so sorry to have doubted you!
I must echo the thoughts of your other readers...what a romantic and mushy scene

but I have to agree with Lizzy, they do need a heart-to-heart without an audience (and yes, that excludes us, of course!).
Keep up the wonderful work!!!

Ok i do agree with some of the ladies here that Jack and Sue need to have a heart to heart but could we please just pause that scene for a moment to allow us to revel in the fabulous and wonderful warm fuzzies that the amazing Mentor has created for us here.
I for one will be stuck with that last scene in my head all day now! If i were Sue or Jack i think i'd be telling Bobby not to bother with CPR - what a way to go!

Friday 19th December
Myles and Tara were on the way to the Whitehouse. Final security checks needed to be completed and Myles had to put the finishing touches to all the arrangements. With only four days to go they were in good spirits, and Myles could finally see his master plan coming together.
“She said the dress was perfect and it was a shame she couldn’t marry Jack and then passed out cold.” Tara was filling Myles in on the previous afternoons happenings,
“My goodness that must have given you all quite a shock.” Myles already knew the gist of the story, and that the bride and groom were still intending to get married on Christmas Eve, he was just intrigued by Sue’s statement.
“Well Marge the shop assistant reassured us that it had happened on quite a few occasions and that’s why she had the smelling salts to hand. Apparently trying your wedding dress on can make you go either way, hysterical or unconscious!” This was news to Tara but was something to bear in mind for future reference.
“Anyway when she came to, she took one look at Jack then she bolted. It’s a good job Jack has sharp reflexes because the next thing we know, Jack has her pinned underneath him on the carpet and was not a happy man.” Tara smiled to herself, it had been an interesting afternoon.
“That must have been an interesting sight. I’ve never been one for spontaneous outbursts of ones affections in public places, it can be so..so tawdry.”
“Well there was nothing tawdry about this, Jack is a very, very passionate man! Poor Marge had to use the smelling salts on herself” Myles could tell that the Hudson charm had won Tara over as well.
Myles felt a bit hurt surely Tara thought he was a passionate man too. “So they kissed somewhat passionately and made up?”
“Well Sue was quite giddy after Jacks kiss, infact come to think of it she looked a little green. Anyhow Lucy helped her dress and Jack whisked her off home.” Tara finished the story.
Myles pondered the story, perhaps it was just wedding jitters, but then again maybe it was something else? “Tara ?”
“Yes Myles?”
“Actually it’s nothing. Look, here we are he said changing the subject” They had pulled up at the gates of the Whitehouse. He would keep his theories to himself, why rock the boat?
That's right, if Myles isn't going to rock the boat, Mentor should follow his example. I'm happy with the fuzzies now. If they aren't going to get married Christmas Eve... Well, they'd better get married December 23, December 22, December 21, December 20, December 19... Gosh, they have plenty of time...

Friday 19th December Lunchtime...
Jack and Sue sat having lunch at a window table at their favourite pizza restaurant. Jack had thought it would be a good place to reassure her after yesterday. They needed to talk but he wanted the atmosphere to be light, and happy. He was a little too scared himself to get in too deep at this juncture. The events of the past few weeks had just made them forget why they were getting married in the first place. He just wanted to hold her hand, admire her beauty, and make her feel special. He loved her, she loved him. It should be that simple.
Jack offered Sue a spoonful of his chocolate fudge brownie dessert. She shook her head. He was still holding her hand and had been though out the entire meal. She had been a little quite, but he couldn’t sense anything particularly wrong.
“So are you still going to marry then?” He teased.
“Jack, I’ve already said I was sorry about yesterday, I don’t know what came over me” Sue gave him a gentle smile.
“I don’t know, you can face murderers, snipers, terrorists, and serial killers. Yet show you a wedding dress and you panic!”
“I did not panic, I hesitated but everything is fine now!” She replied reassuringly.
“Well can I let you into a little secret?” Jack asked.
“I suppose so” Sue wished he would stop teasing, she was feeling quite peculiar, a bit nauseous infact.
“Well I panicked a bit too, when I tried my suit on. Luckily as I remained conscious throughout the whole experience, Bobby gave me a best man to groom pep talk and he reminded me of the reason we are getting married in the first place.” Jack winked at her.
“You did? He did?” The relief, which appeared on Sue’s face, was evident. Jack grinned, this was more like it he thought to himself.
“What did Bobby say?” Sue asked.
“Well his exact words were something along the lines of Your brain hasn’t been working for ages and now you’ve switched it back on it’s playing tricks on you!”
Sue laughed. That sentence seemed to be missing a mate or a drongo but she could tell that it was one of Bobby’s. “Bobby is a good friend”
“ I’m sure Lucy would have told you something as equally profound! You finished?” Jack started to dig into his coat for his wallet.
“Jack.? Oh god Jack I’m going to be sick” Sue ran to the ladies room with Jack in hot pursuit.

Friday 19th December 2.00pm Emergency Room….
Sue sat in a gown with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders, on a gurney in the emergency room. Jack stood close by holding a basin. She had been sick at least five times in the past hour. Sue had protested, but when she was finally sick over Jacks front car seat, she knew she had lost the argument.
“Ok the doctors going to be in to see you in moment, but I need to take some blood, and we are going to give you an IV of saline just to keep you hydrated whilst you are here.” The nurse smiled sympathetically, as Sue reached for the bowl once again.
“Jack will have to help with the questions.” Sue knew she was losing her focus.
The nurse looked questionably at Jack “It’s ok I’m her fiancé”
“Ok let’s start at the beginning. Just nod dear, to confirm what we’ve got already!”
“Sue Thomas, 30, work for FBI feeling sick since yesterday when you passed out.” Sue nodded to all of them.
“We thought she was just a little stressed due to the fact we are getting married on Christmas Eve” Jack added. The nurse gave him a knowing look nodded and added “Ur huh”
“Ok deary, are you taking any medication? Contraceptive pill? Painkillers, herbal remedies for stress” Sue shook her head to all the questions.
“Do you think you may have consumed uncooked poultry, or similar” The thought of that question made Sue want to throw up again. She reached for the basin. When she had finished the nurse added one final question “Do you think you could be pregnant?
Sue looked at Jack, and Jack looked back at Sue. They were both equally shocked. It had been what three months ago when, they had come together unexpectedly, they had been caught up in a whirlwind of emotion, and then, then Jack had been shot.
The nurse had seen this many times, usually foolish teenagers, not thirty something’s, but she smiled. “Ok I take it that there is a possibility, and we will know in a hour if that’s a certainty the blood test will tell us..” Jack swallowed hard. He hadn’t expected this. The nurse took a syringe of blood and gave Sue’s hand a squeeze.
“It all be ok deary and if your not pregnant we better make sure your fixed up for the honeymoon.” Sue looked at her and blankly. Remembering Charlie and Thomas. She wasn’t ready for this. Yesterday she hadn’t been ready for the wedding. Now she really wasn’t ready for motherhood, and by the look on Jacks face fatherhood hadn’t exactly been on Jacks mind too. The nurse left, and Sue settled back onto the pillow with Jacks help.
“I guess we need another talk now” Jack said. Sue bit her bottom lip.
“I’m sorry I guess we should have been more careful. I guess I should have been more careful” Jack said sadly.
“You’ve got nothing to be sorry for, we were both there, we are consenting adults. And as I recall I started it!” Sue replied.
“And as I recall, I finished it” Jack said with a mischievous grin.
“Jack!” Said Sue embarrassedly, and then she started to smile.
“It doesn’t change anything does it?” Jack asked, not sure how Sue felt.
She shook her head, “Jack if I’m pregnant, the baby, our baby, will be the result of one of the most precious and amazing moments I’ve had in my entire life. I can’t argue with god for that.”
“I can’t argue with that either.” Jack added. “ And if you’re not pregnant?”
“I’m sure one day when we are ready we will be equally as blessed” Sue reached over and took his hand. “This is going to be the longest hour of our lives.”
He was so glad she had added that. Either way he would be happy, but this unexpected afternoon of excitement had caught him by surprise. He wouldn’t know how he really felt until the doctor gave them the news. He took a deep breath, “ I love you Sue Thomas,” He reached across the bed and kissed her on her forehead.

Friday 19th December 3.00pm Emergency Room….1 hour later.
The doctor strolled in, with his clipboard in hand. He smiled at Sue and then grinned at Jack. The nurse had told him all about his thirty something couple who could possibly be pregnant, unexpectedly.
“Well Ms Thomas, and Mr Hudson. FBI agents eh?” The doctor said in a sort of exasperated tone. That one sentence had Jack feeling more than a little foolish.
“I’m not sure how to tell you this, but you’re not pregnant.”
“I’m not?” Sue said not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed.
“Well what’s wrong with her then?” Jack asked, doing his best not to reveal any of his feelings to Sue until he was sure what hers were.
“So our best bet is that you have a virus. So we are going to keep you in overnight maybe longer keep you hydrated due to its severity. Hopefully we will have you fit before your wedding!” He looked at his clipboard. “And the nurse is coming back to have a little talk with both of you!”
