Welcome back Allison I hope your PC is feeling better! I don't envy you though. How much reading have you got to catch up on?
Wednesday 10th December
“See what I mean?” Myles stood next to the salesman at the suit hire company. Jack. Bobby and D. had tried on at least six different types of suit. Myles wanted the exact colour and shade specified by Lucy.
“Well sir, the suits are our very best, the problem with the overall aesthetics is that the groom, is how shall I put this, er… the groom is at least half a metre shorter than the groomsmen. So unless….”
“I suppose he could stand on a box for the photos, but that wouldn’t work for the ceremony..” Myles crossed his arms deep in thought.
“Myles do you have to work at the way you are or does it come naturally?” D asked, “The last thing Jack needs now is to be reminded of his own well shortcomings!”
“Arghhhh so you’ve noticed it to!” Myles replied in all seriousness.
“Yes …but no. That’s not what I meant” D. gave up exasperated “I need to get back to the bullpen. Somebody needs to be there.”
“It’s a good job that the groom is a confident self assured Special Agent, otherwise he would have been crushed by now.” Bobby decided to be less than subtle in his response to Myles. Then gave Jack a reassuring slap on the shoulder.
“Thanks for that Crash” Jack had heard all the short jokes before anyway.
“Ok lets try the dress suits and cravats again…the grey then the navy. Hurry up people we haven’t got all day.” Myles started to organise the salesman once again.
Bobby and Jack went back into the changing room. Jack let out a deep sigh.
“You ok mate? You know Myles, he’s just being..”Jack interrupted Bobby
“Myles!” They both laughed.
“If the only thing I had to worry about was being short then I would be a very happy man.” Jack said wryly “Any how I’m not that short the rest of you are just overgrown!”
“Come on tell me all about it Sparky. What’s worrying you?” Bobby was more than comfortable with his role as friend and confidant.
“Oh it’s something and nothing really!” Jack tried to gloss over it.
“Spit it out Sparky” Bobby turned and looked at him waiting for an answer.
“Ok I’m just a bit worried about not being a good husband to Sue,” Jack answered hesitantly.
Bobby looked puzzled. This was the charming Jack Hudson, whose loss from the DC dating pool would be a big one, he was hardly inexperienced. “Jack so you haven’t er.. been in a serious relationship for a while. I’ll guarantee it will all come back to you!”
“That wasn’t the part I was worried about Bobby!” Jack said indignantly.
“Well that’s a relief.” Bobby quipped “But If you need any help or advice you know where I am!” He added with a grin.
Jack gave him an exasperated look but decided to continue.“Don’t get me wrong I love her to bits it’s just sometimes I worry that I won’t be good enough for her. That I won’t understand all her needs and put my own before hers and that I don’t know enough about her world..”
“Halt stop right there Jack. This is a case of pre wedding jitters. Your brain hasn’t been working for ages and now you’ve switched it back on it’s playing tricks on you! You’re too busy over thinking things.” Bobby wasn’t surprised by his friend’s angst and had been expecting the conversation.
“How long have you been in love with Sue?”
“Since the moment I met her”
“ Is Sue in love with you”
“God I hope so”
“Jack the answer you were looking for was yes, a plain and simple yes!”
“Ok Yes”
“Can you imagine your life without her?”
“No”
“Have you learnt to sign for her?”
“Yes”
“Then that’s all you need to know. You love her, she loves you. You can’t live without her, and you cross into her world every time you have a conversation using sign language. I don’t think you and Sue are going to live in either the hearing world or the deaf world. Your going to live in both and more to the point you’re going to make your own life.” Bobby looked at Jack to make sure he had understood. “I wish Darcy an I had what you and Sue have.”
Jack was surprised by Bobby’s last statement, but decided it was best not to comment. “Sometimes Crash I don’t give you enough credit. You make difficult things seem very simple!”
“What can I say? It’s a gift. Shame it doesn’t work on Myles though.”
“Oh I think Tara has that angle covered!” Jack said knowingly.
“Oh look mate out here he comes.” Bobby had spotted Myles heading in there direction with a perplexed look on his face.
“Stop slouching Manning, you’re ruining the line of that suit. Jack for the groom, you are looking fine.” Myles said hautily.
“Fine. Is that it? The groom is looking handsomely dashing Myles, nothing less!” Bobby interjected on Jacks behalf.
“Ok the groom is looking better than fine, which is more than I can say about the best man.” Myles stalked off to confirm the choices with the salesman.
“Ouch, I asked for that didn’t I?” Bobby said looking at Jack for confirmation.
“Let him have his day. He’s actually doing a really good job!” Jack replied.
“Hey you are leaving me in charge when you go on honeymoon aren’t you?” Bobby asked feeling slightly deflated by Jacks praise of Myles.
“Yeah why do you ask?” Jack saw the look of pretend hurt on Bobby’s face. “Bobby you’re my best friend and as far as I’m concerned wedding or no wedding that’s the way its staying. As for the team well lets just say I would like to find it the way I left it!”
“That’s ok. Thought I was being replaced!” Bobby said jokingly.
“There’s just one thing. I promised Sue that I would get all the keys to my apartment back; She’s not too keen on spontaneity without a warning call. If you know what I mean.”
“I have no idea. What exactly are you trying to tell me?” Bobby replied deadpan. Jack rolled his eyes to the ceiling and shook his head.
