Poor Jack...

lol...great post Mentor! I loved the humor during their dinner conversation...hopefully Mrs. Hudson will warm up to Sue soon. I'm sure she will...she was just trying to be protective of her son. smile.gif Great job! Can't wait for more!
LizzyM87
Wow, what a dinner!! Mentor, that was ab fab!! I loved it. Care to share more?? hehe. I loved Sue's comeback with Diana. And, as it as now become the appropriate response...

CHA CHING!! Trace, I have a feeling this won't be the first story this expression's used on. hehe. You've started a trend. wink.gif

I also loved how Jack and Sue were having... a little fun with his mother. What a nice way to tie in the previous instance with the tunnel. That sure was quite a bonding experience. wub.gif Hopefully his mom will loosen up when she realizes that Sue really isn't that flighty, and Jack isn't that passive about it... and simply that it was all a joke, and a rather hilarious one at that. Also, I hope things go better with Sue's parents... somehow, I think they'll be more understanding, or at least Jack's dad will.

Anxiously awaiting more!
Anne
angel.gif bounching.gif Mentor I loved the dinner scene and how delightfully wicked Jack decided to be to his Mom. Payback! rofl.gif Sue caught on quick and as blushing.gif embarrassing as it was, she stood by her man! bounching.gif I have this little wicked sense of humor in me, with my kids. All in fun, but I am loving this! Can't wait for more! thumbsup.gif

Wednesday 10th December

“See what I mean?” Myles stood next to the salesman at the suit hire company. Jack. Bobby and D. had tried on at least six different types of suit. Myles wanted the exact colour and shade specified by Lucy.

“Well sir, the suits are our very best, the problem with the overall aesthetics is that the groom, is how shall I put this, er… the groom is at least half a metre shorter than the groomsmen. So unless….”

“I suppose he could stand on a box for the photos, but that wouldn’t work for the ceremony..” Myles crossed his arms deep in thought.

“Myles do you have to work at the way you are or does it come naturally?” D asked, “The last thing Jack needs now is to be reminded of his own well shortcomings!”

“Arghhhh so you’ve noticed it to!” Myles replied in all seriousness.

“Yes …but no. That’s not what I meant” D. gave up exasperated “I need to get back to the bullpen. Somebody needs to be there.”

“It’s a good job that the groom is a confident self assured Special Agent, otherwise he would have been crushed by now.” Bobby decided to be less than subtle in his response to Myles. Then gave Jack a reassuring slap on the shoulder.

“Thanks for that Crash” Jack had heard all the short jokes before anyway.

“Ok lets try the dress suits and cravats again…the grey then the navy. Hurry up people we haven’t got all day.” Myles started to organise the salesman once again.
Bobby and Jack went back into the changing room. Jack let out a deep sigh.

“You ok mate? You know Myles, he’s just being..”Jack interrupted Bobby

“Myles!” They both laughed.

“If the only thing I had to worry about was being short then I would be a very happy man.” Jack said wryly “Any how I’m not that short the rest of you are just overgrown!”

“Come on tell me all about it Sparky. What’s worrying you?” Bobby was more than comfortable with his role as friend and confidant.

“Oh it’s something and nothing really!” Jack tried to gloss over it.

“Spit it out Sparky” Bobby turned and looked at him waiting for an answer.

“Ok I’m just a bit worried about not being a good husband to Sue,” Jack answered hesitantly.

Bobby looked puzzled. This was the charming Jack Hudson, whose loss from the DC dating pool would be a big one, he was hardly inexperienced. “Jack so you haven’t er.. been in a serious relationship for a while. I’ll guarantee it will all come back to you!”

“That wasn’t the part I was worried about Bobby!” Jack said indignantly.

“Well that’s a relief.” Bobby quipped “But If you need any help or advice you know where I am!” He added with a grin.

Jack gave him an exasperated look but decided to continue.“Don’t get me wrong I love her to bits it’s just sometimes I worry that I won’t be good enough for her. That I won’t understand all her needs and put my own before hers and that I don’t know enough about her world..”

“Halt stop right there Jack. This is a case of pre wedding jitters. Your brain hasn’t been working for ages and now you’ve switched it back on it’s playing tricks on you! You’re too busy over thinking things.” Bobby wasn’t surprised by his friend’s angst and had been expecting the conversation.

“How long have you been in love with Sue?”

“Since the moment I met her”

“ Is Sue in love with you”

“God I hope so”

“Jack the answer you were looking for was yes, a plain and simple yes!”

“Ok Yes”

“Can you imagine your life without her?”

“No”

“Have you learnt to sign for her?”

“Yes”

“Then that’s all you need to know. You love her, she loves you. You can’t live without her, and you cross into her world every time you have a conversation using sign language. I don’t think you and Sue are going to live in either the hearing world or the deaf world. Your going to live in both and more to the point you’re going to make your own life.” Bobby looked at Jack to make sure he had understood. “I wish Darcy an I had what you and Sue have.”

Jack was surprised by Bobby’s last statement, but decided it was best not to comment. “Sometimes Crash I don’t give you enough credit. You make difficult things seem very simple!”

“What can I say? It’s a gift. Shame it doesn’t work on Myles though.”

“Oh I think Tara has that angle covered!” Jack said knowingly.

“Oh look mate out here he comes.” Bobby had spotted Myles heading in there direction with a perplexed look on his face.

“Stop slouching Manning, you’re ruining the line of that suit. Jack for the groom, you are looking fine.” Myles said hautily.

“Fine. Is that it? The groom is looking handsomely dashing Myles, nothing less!” Bobby interjected on Jacks behalf.

“Ok the groom is looking better than fine, which is more than I can say about the best man.” Myles stalked off to confirm the choices with the salesman.

“Ouch, I asked for that didn’t I?” Bobby said looking at Jack for confirmation.

“Let him have his day. He’s actually doing a really good job!” Jack replied.

“Hey you are leaving me in charge when you go on honeymoon aren’t you?” Bobby asked feeling slightly deflated by Jacks praise of Myles.

“Yeah why do you ask?” Jack saw the look of pretend hurt on Bobby’s face. “Bobby you’re my best friend and as far as I’m concerned wedding or no wedding that’s the way its staying. As for the team well lets just say I would like to find it the way I left it!”

“That’s ok. Thought I was being replaced!” Bobby said jokingly.

“There’s just one thing. I promised Sue that I would get all the keys to my apartment back; She’s not too keen on spontaneity without a warning call. If you know what I mean.”

“I have no idea. What exactly are you trying to tell me?” Bobby replied deadpan. Jack rolled his eyes to the ceiling and shook his head.

Thursday 11th December

“Silly me. I was expecting Christmas decorations this time of year!” Bobby announced as he strode into the Bullpen. “And Myles where exactly has my desk gone?”

“I can’t deal with trivialities like that can’t you see I’m busy Manning!” With secataurs in one had and a mist spray in the other Myles was busy behind what Bobby could only describe as a miniature hedge. He scanned the room every desk, filing cabinet and shelving unit had floral arrangements of every colour shape and size on them. Ok maybe Myles was doing a good job, but this was the bullpen. Not a horticulturalist wanabees paradise. He finally spotted his chair and removed a hand tied bunch of roses, and planted them on Myles desk, which was surprising devoid of any vegetation.

Tara was following Myles around the room taking notes on her clipboard. “Myles Jack is going to have a fit when he sees this lot.” Bobby said trying to direct some sanity into the proceedings.

“Every bloom is being assessed for freshness, longevity and over all aesthetics. I can’t just walk into a florists and order anything you know. In the interest of expediency I thought it easier if Jack and Sue made the choices from their office chairs so to speak.” Myles explained spraying a thin film of mist over the array of roses on Bobby’s desk.

“I hope that’s just water in there!” Bobby gave Myles a warning glance as the second squirt of mist came in his direction. “Well for your sakes I hope Jack sees it that way, and we don’t have any big cases starting today!”

“Big cases will not be a problem for this office until after the 24th!” Myles stated knowledgably.

“Pardon me?” Bobby hadn’t quite caught the meaning of that statement.

“Came down from the directors office itself. Apparently someone up there likes Jack enough to make sure his wedding goes off without a hitch.” Myles explained

“Whoa he’s not going to like that very much is he?” Bobby was shaking his head.

“Well can I make a simple suggestion? Don’t tell him!” Myles added sarcastically.

“Don’t tell who what?” Lucy came strolling in.

“Lucy how lovely you look this morning!” Bobby rapidly changed the subject.

“Good try Bobby. But you know me. Don’t tell who what?” Lucy gave him a dazzling smile.

“Oh for you Sheila, anything. But you need to promise not to tell Jack!” Bobby had to think on his feet.

“Ok” Lucy said “I promise!”

“Well it’s just that I’ve organised some entertainment for the bucks night. And I don’t think Jack would approve when he’s sober.” Bobby grinned, that would put Lucy on over drive, her jaw was hanging down already.

Jack strode in to the bull pen at first not really noticing the chaos “Morning …..” he paused “Everyone…Myles? That’s assuming you’re somewhere in this room. Can I have a word please?” The leaves of a large palm parted and Myles stuck his head through.

“Be with you in a moment Jack, Just need to…” Myles was cut off mid sentance. Jack appeared to be having sense of humour failure this morning.

“Now Myles. In the conference room!” Jack turned and strode purposefully out of the |bullpen with Myles in hot pursuit. Bobby Lucy Tara and D. follow waiting for Jack to explode.

“Jack …Jack” Myles called down the corridor “I don’t…”

Jack threw open the conference room door and was about to stroll in when he heard a burst of gunfire, he pulled his weapon and dived to the ground. It took him only a second to realise what was going on……He rolled over onto his back still clutching his gun as hundreds of helium filled balloons come floating out of the conference room door some popping with the change of air pressure….He then started to chuckle. The rest of the team joined in, getting some very odd looks from passers by.

Then the elevator opposite the conference room opened up. Sue and Levi stepped out. Sue could see Jack lying on the floor laughing with his gun drawn and lots of balloons floating down the corridor. Levi ran into the conference room adding to the chaos. Sue walked over and looks down at Jack for an explanation.

“Sue there is just one thing I’m going to stipulate about our wedding reception. No balloons. Too dangerous with all the Special Agents we have coming as guests!” Sue looks at Jack puzzled having missed the joke, whilst the rest of the team started to laugh again.

Friday 12th December

“Myles that was amazing. I don’t know how you do it but sometimes you are truly impressive.” Tara purred at Myles.

“Yes sometimes I’m so good I astound myself!” Myles looked longingly into Tara eyes. At last he had found a woman who appreciated his many and varied talents.

“To think that he thought I Myles Leyland the third, would not know the difference between a Chardonnay and a Sauvignon blanc.”

“The way you handled that pompous catering manager was simply extraordinary.” Tara had thought Myles had met his match, but once again he had outdone himself. His role as wedding planner was becoming a personal quest for perfection. Tara couldn’t help but admire the lengths he would go to for Jack and Sue.

“Pompous I know about, and of course my family have been employing caterers for a variety of social functions for years. He knew that one word in the right ear would mean the end of a significant contract with the Leyland family” Myles explained matter of factly.

“Really?” Tara was learning more and more about the Leyland dynasty.

“Well not exactly,” Myles conceded with a smile, but he had enjoyed pretending.

“So the Leyland’s aren’t that rich and important after all?” Tara was still trying to pin down the truth.

“Oh I wouldn’t say that either.” Myles added to confuse Tara even more.

“Myles sometimes I think that you prefer people not to want to get close to you. Are there that many skeletons in the Leyland’s closet that you need to keep them under wraps?” Tara asked emphatically. She had fallen for this man. Did he have any idea?

“I wouldn’t say that. The Leyland family en masse can be somewhat over bearing!” Myles said carefully not wanting to damage the new and burgeoning relationship he was building with Tara.

“Really! I would never have imagined that!” Tara answered trying not to grin.

“Well Jack and Sue should be pleased,” Myles had decided a change in subject direction was needed.

“It’s very commendable the amount of effort that you are putting in for Jack and Sue. I’m sure they will be very grateful” Tara replied.

“Well let’s just say I enjoy making my friends happy.” Myles answered with equal honesty.

Tara smiled at him, she thought it was nice that he considered Jack and Sue to be his friends, not just work colleagues. “Jack and Sue are a very special couple. The love they share seems to be very unique.” I wonder if I’ll ever have a relationship of such depth with anyone she thought to herself?

“Yes there love appears to be quite extraordinary, exceptional infact.” Myles commented thoughtfully “ Between you and me I’m thoroughly enjoying this. Perhaps one day I will be able to organise my own wedding.”

Tara felt her heart leap a little. Myles never ceased to astonish her. He was no Bobby or Jack, but he clearly had hidden depths, and he wasn’t afraid to use the word marriage. Tara Leyland III had a nice ring to it! “Now that we have sorted out the catering. Perhaps we could take some time to explore the days of the week a little further. Where did we get up to again?”

“Tuesday…” Myles answered slightly flustered “ I think we got to Tuesday!”

Saturday 13th December

Bobby and Darcy strolled hand in hand through the department store. He hated Christmas shopping, but he had promised. He needed to get Jack and Sue a wedding present anyhow. Bobby stood by the changing rooms; Darcy had conveniently turned their shopping trip into a clothes-buying expedition she needed something to wear for the wedding. His patience was beginning to wear a little thin. He had other ideas about how he would like to spend in afternoons with Darcy. Standing guard on all Darcy’s purchases he made an uncomfortable site. He scanned the sales floor, there had to be something he could do whilst he was waiting, then he recognised a distant figure. His face lit up and he began to smile, what an opportunity.

Jack stood perusing the bikinis and sarongs. He wanted to give Sue an early Christmas present. She had asked about packing for the honeymoon, so he needed to give her a very unsubtle hint about the possible destination. Eventually he found the perfect choice, and yes she would just about look ravishing in that he thought, his mind wandering the secret hot and sultry honeymoon destination. Just as he was imagining Sue wandering bare foot down the beach, wrapped only in a sarong, the wind gently blowing her golden hair off her face and shoulders, he nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt a tap on his shoulder.

Embarrassed at being caught mid fantasy Jack cleared his throat “ Crash?” He shuffled a bit uncomfortably and hid the bikini behind his back “Last place I thought I would see you on a Saturday afternoon!”

“So I gather Sparky” Bobby said with an enormous grin. “ Darce is just trying on a few outfits for the wedding!”

“Oh that’s nice” was the best Jack could come up with.

“Sue with you?” Bobby scanned the sales floor.

“No not this afternoon, I came to buy her a surprise.” Jack held the bikini tightly behind his back.

“That’s good mate because I thought we had a problem!”

“Problem?” Jack answered curiously.

“Yeah I thought that bikini your hiding was for you”

“Forever the comedian,” Jack brought the bikini out of hiding, what had he expected they were a surveillance team after all. “ So?”

“So?” Answered Bobby

“So what do you think?” Jack thought a second opinion would be helpful

“Nice colour but there’s not that much of it. Of course if you were going to Australia on your honeymoon she wouldn’t need the top half!” Bobby quipped

The image that flashed through Jacks mind, left him even more embarrassed than he had started with. “Thanks for that Crash! Very helpful”

Bobby laughed “You know me!”

“Arghhhh there you are Agent Manning, and Agent Hudson as well. Bobby you didn’t really need to call in reinforcements just yet!” Darcy strolled up to them carrying another few bags of purchases.

“No wasn’t me darling. Jack came to buy Sue a present for their honeymoon.”

Darcy looked at the very small bikini that Jack held. “Very nice Agent Hudson very tasteful, but I expect Sue is more this size!” Darcy handed him the next size up. “I expect Sue would like to leave something to the imagination”

Jack blushed as Bobby grinned. “Darcy likes to be helpful as well!”

Late Afternoon Saturday 13th December...

Myles stood outside Tara’s apartment door clutching a precious bunch of Crimson Myles roses grown by his own fair hand in his recently purchased state of the art glasshouse. He had hand tied them with a piece of Victorian lace which had belonged to his great grandmother, or was his great great grandmother. It didn’t matter nothing in his mind was too good for Tara.

He knocked gently on the door having a sudden panic when he thought she was out. Then he heard the rattle of the chain and the key turning in the lock and his heart skipped a beat. Tara opened the door slowly wondering who could be visiting her late on a Saturday afternoon?

Tara stood in her blue bath rode .She had been having a pampering session all afternoon, indulging in a lengthy bubble bath, buffing and moisturising, painting her nails a delicate shade of pink, her cheeks glowing from the face pack removed only moments before.

“Myles what a surprise, I wasn’t expecting to see you today. Is there a Wedding emergency?”

Myles hadn’t really taken in what she had said as he held the roses speechless. He was looking at the gorgeous glowing vision in front of him. Tara was well.. she was voluptuous it was the only word he could think of to describe her, she had curves in all the right places which were being complemented by her clinging robe. Her hair was slightly damp and he could see a smidgen of moisturiser just sitting on her top lip. It beckoned him, ruining her total perfection, he lent forwards and gently removed it with the edge of his thumb.

Tara felt herself go weak at the knees, it was probably one of the most erotic things that had ever happened to her. This amazing man, stood before her speechless, she knew she had to act. She grabbed him by the lapels of his overcoat, dragging his mouth down to meet hers. The moment her lips touched his, a sense of urgency rushed over her entire body, as unbridled passion exploded between them.

Myles couldn’t do anything but respond. He dropped the roses and wrapped his arms around her, lifted her up and carried her into her apartment, kicking the door closed with his foot. His lips remained firmly attached to hers. There was only one thought in his mind, he’d never been to Tara's apartment before, where was the darn Sofa? blushing.gif

Sunday 14th December

Early Sunday Morning.......

Tara sat propped up in bed on her fluffy pillows; she had a silly goofy grin on her face as she remembered the events of the previous afternoon. Saturday afternoons would now be declared making out with Myles afternoons. Their mammoth make out session had lasted some time. She really couldn’t keep her hands off of him. She giggled to herself. When they could finally take no more, there lips red and swollen Myles had made his excuses. His blonde hair was a mess, flopping over his eyes. His tie was half undone, along with a number of his shirt buttons. He had been totally flustered, yet despite Taras best efforts he had been the perfect gentleman. Even then Tara had to muster all the will power she could not to grab his tie and pull him back to her. Unsure of their relationship, the parameters had not yet been discussed they had enjoyed their moment. Tara let out a contented sigh ... Myles was simply wonderful!

Myles sat in the easy chair with freshly ground coffee and the Sunday papers. How ever hard he tried to read them, he couldn't. He was far too distracted. Tara had somehow turned his mind to jelly. He smiled to himself, he had been lucky to get out in one piece. Tara was a passionate woman, and that passion had left him craving for more..She was simply amazing!

Late Sunday Eevning.....

Sue and Jack sat in Jacks car outside Sue’s apartment late on Sunday evening. The afternoon had been perfect. They had strolled hand in hand through the park; the sun had shone even though the air was more than crisp. They had grabbed a bite to eat at their favourite deli and then headed back to Jack’s to snuggle up on the sofa in front of a romantic film. Jack had been on his best behaviour, so Sue had eased the abstinence restrictions to allow a modicum of closeness. As much as it had been her idea, she was missing the intimacy they shared too. Jack had been resolute in his promise and had only shared some tender kisses whilst they were cuddling up on the sofa. Sue was a little confused by this turn around, he had certainly been in favour on Friday night. At 10.30 he had offered to drive her home.

“ Hey I have something for you” Jack produced a small parcel neatly wrapped in Christmas paper and tied with a red ribbon. “An early Christmas present!”

Sue was a little puzzled, “You want me to open it now?” She pulled the ribbon and carefully unwrapped the paper. She looked at Jack. He raised an eyebrow at her. She carefully lifted the lid off of the box and removed the tissue paper. She picked the bikini out of the box and looked suspiciously at Jack.

“It’s lovely but…er it’s very small” She eyed it trying not to blush.

“Well you only need to pack that and a toothbrush for our honeymoon. It’s all your going to need!” Jack grinned at her.

Sue felt her cheeks turn scarlet. “Jackson Hudson you are…you are….goodnight Jack!” She swiftly exited the car taking the bikini with her

Ten minutes later…. Sue stood in front of her bedroom mirror wearing the bikini Jack had just given her. . He was incorrigible, but she had to admit she was pleasantly surprised at how good she looked in it. So they were going somewhere hot, hopefully secluded. What would Jack be wearing? The picture which sprang to her mind made her blush, perhaps she needed to get Jack a present too.

Monday 15th December

Jack walked into the bull pen at 7.30 am. Everything looked surprisingly normal. No cake, no balloons, no floral arrangements, no Myles. He smiled to himself. Normality was what he needed; infact normality was what he was craving. The only thing that would make him any happier would be D. walking into the office handing him a case. He hung his jacket on the coat hook behind his desk, and started to check the mail. Anything that vaguely looked like an invoice for the wedding he dumped on Tara’s desk. He could trust her. She knew he had a budget. Myles on the other hand might need a bit of a reminder. Where was Myles? Jack walked across to the coffee machine, and poured a large mug full. Today he told himself his mind was not going to wander, well maybe to Sue in her bikini at lunch break. Today he was an FBI agent and where on earth were his team?

Jack returned to his desk, and started to review some files, which had been gathering dust. He looked up when he heard footsteps. It was Myles. “Morning Myles”

“Morning Jack.” Myles was surprisingly short in his reply.

Jack looked more closely, Myles looked slightly dishevelled. His blonde hair seemed a little ruffled, and if he wasn’t mistaken that was lipstick on the side of his cheek. He now sitting at his desk looking somewhat perplexed. Something was definitely up. Jack hoped that something was Tara,

“Did you have a good weekend?” Jack couldn’t help but wonder what the problem was?

“It was very nice thank you for asking Jack” Myles replied although his brain was clearly engaged elsewhere.

“Something up?” Jack asked.

Myles looked at Jack as if he was appraising him. Jack could see that he wanted to talk, but it wasn’t Myle's style to discuss his private life with colleagues

“Myles there is obviously something worrying you. If you want to talk about it in confidence. It won’t go any further.” Jack thought it was the least he could do.

Myles stood up and started to pace back and forwards he crossed his arms and thought for a few moments then said “ If you found yourself in a compromising situation, and you knew it was against FBI policy what would you do about it?”

“Is there something I should know about Myles?” Jack asked cautiously all the signs pointed to a relationship with Tara, but they were trained to expect the unexpected.

“Well yes and no really…” Myles desperately wanted to tell someone about Tara. But was Jack the right person? He would surely understand the situation, because of Sue.

“Could you be a little more succinct?” Jack raised his eyebrows.

“On the record or off the record?” Myles asked hesitantly

“Well that would depend on what the situation was? If it was that you have fallen for a certain young lady, hook, line and sinker than as long as it doesn’t compromise the way you work I expect I could overlook it for a period of time until the relationship has had time to solidify so to speak. I of course would expect you to come clean eventually…” Jack was trying not to smile but he could see by Myles reaction he was right. Myles had set his cap at Tara. Or just maybe it had been the other way around. He would have to finds out the gossip from Sue and Lucy later. “If on the other hand you had falsified evidence, defrauded your expense account, or…..”

“Its Tara she’s a very passionate woman..and..and I need to be able to take her on a date, I can’t do clandestine any longer. The next time I go to Tara’s apartment I might not be able to fight my way out” Myles looked helplessly at Jack

Jack tried not to laugh “ You say that like it’s a bad thing!”

“I’d like to think I at least try to be a gentleman. It’s just I find her so irresistible and I don’t think you should partner her with me today. It’s all these wedding arrangements throwing us together so to speak. Its not that I don’t want us to be together I just want to be able to focus my brain occasionally.”

“Oh” Jack replied. He’d been there got the t-shirt and done that one!

“How an earth did you do it? How do you do it? “ Myles asked in desperation. Jack looked puzzled.

“What keep my feelings under wraps for Sue you mean?” Jack asked. Myles nodded.

“ I really don’t know Myles. But I can tell you I went to the gym a lot!” Jack grinned Myles was well and truly smitten. “Hey you better wipe that lipstick off your cheek before Bobby comes in! Or you’ll never hear the last of it.” Jack added helpfully.

Early evening…..

“Mum, Dad. You remember Jack don’t you?” Sue smiled at her parents but was unsure what to expect.

“Mr Thomas, Mrs Thomas. Was your flight good?” Jack shook hands with his in laws–to-be in the foyer of the Regency Hotel, one of the best in Washington. He had pulled a few strings and even got them a substantial discount. He was nervous. Sue had warned him that meeting her parents was probably not going to be a pleasant experience.

“The plane was delayed by two hours, the airline food was cold, the service abysmal. No I can honestly say I have been on better journeys.” Mrs Thomas answered him curtly. Mr Thomas tried to give Jack a rassuring smile, but was promptly glared at by his wife.

Ok Jack thought to himself. Maybe avoid the pleasantries and stick to the facts. "Our table is ready if you want to go into the restaurant. Or we could do drinks at the bar first?”

“Oh I think we will get straight to business in the restaurant.” Replied Mrs Thomas. Sue screwed her face up at Jack. This wasn’t going very well. Jack raised his eyebrows. Generally he could charm people into his way of thinking, but he had a feeling that Mrs Thomas wouldn’t be that receptive.

“Well let’s get to the point then. Your father and I feel that you are rushing things and Sue darling as much as we would like you to settle down and have a family of your own, we think you are making a mistake.” Mrs Thomas said directlt to Sue.

Jack looked at Sue this is what she had expected. He was about to intervene but Sue beat him to it.

“I’m sorry Mum and Dad that you feel that way, and it doesn’t really surprise me that you do. I love Jack and I’m going to marry him!” Sue said with a determined look about her.

“What your mother is trying to say is that we know that before you came to Washington, you hadn’t dated very many men and we feel that you shouldn’t marry the first man who asks you! You don’t have to marry Jack do you?” Sues father asked.

Jacks eyes grew wide with indignation. Had he understood that right? They weren’t actually objecting to him, but the fact he was the first one to ask her! He looked at Sue confused, he really hadn’t expected the conversation to take this turn.

Sue turned to her Mother, deciding to take the moral high ground and ignore her fathers question. Was this some sort of reverse psychology? Had someone brainwashed her parents?

“So Mum you and Dad feel that I should be considering dating more men?” Sue asked cautiously. Jack raised his eyebrows at her. What exactly was going on here?

“Your father and I Just think you should expand your horizons, and experience more of life, before you commit yourself to one man!” Mrs Thomas answered.

“You think I should be experiencing more men? How many did you have in mind?” Sue saw an opportunity to change the route of the conversation and took it.

Jack thought back to the conversation with his mother. Were all parents completely mad? He was trying hard not to laugh at Sues question. He saw her screw her nose up at him and purse her lip. Ok he thought to himself time to intervene.

“Mr & Mrs Thomas. Or should I call you Mum and Dad? Sue has experienced more than you can imagine since she moved to DC...”

“Jack!” Sue glared at him.

“Sorry what I meant to say is that the FBI has certainly broadened her horizons and that…” Jack was really confused, what were their objections?

“What we are saying is that Sue shouldn’t commit herself to marriage in such a hurry, she should be more… more… worldly.”

“Ok you would like Sue to live with me, without the commitment of marriage? Works for me. About you Sue?” Jack asked in all seriousness.

“Works for me to Jack. Lets do it!” Sue answered. Mr and Mrs Thomas’s jaws dropped open. Whatever they had been planning had been systematically curtailed.

“Ok lets get going Sue. We need to move you in and call off the wedding” Jack grabbed Sues hand and they disappeared out of the restaurant.

Jack and Sue stood against the car laughing. Sue could feel the tears of laughter running down her cheeks. When she finally managed to draw a breath, she looked at Jack shaking her head.

“What just happened in there?”

“I have no idea!” Jack answered still trying to get his breath back.

“Ok from what I could work out, they wanted me to date more men and be more worldly, they had no objection to you just my lack of experience.” Sue look perplexed. She would need to tackle them at some point but she was glad they had escaped.

Jack drew Sue to him and held her tightly around the waist. “Hey Thomas you could move in tonight with your parents blessing” He teased.

“No Special Agent Hudson I think I’ll go for my first choice of the wedding. But the question is how many other man can I fit in between now and the twenty fourth?” She answered back, with a playful smile.

“Oh you don’t need any more men. I’m plenty worldly enough for you” Jack replied drawing her into a long and passionate kiss.
