Here goes....
Monday 1st December
“Whoa, wait up fellas. We’ve lost him again!” Bobby’s Australian drawl competed with the DC lunchtime traffic. D. smiled. Myles shook his head as Bobby scanned the area. Bobby spotted a familiar figure silently staring into a store window.
Since Jack had asked Sue to marry him, his head had been firmly stuck in the clouds. Distracted was an understatement. Jack was more than keeping Bobby on his toes. Bobby had got use to seeing Jack lose his concentration over Sue, but in the last two weeks this had taken on a new and interesting phase, whereby he’d actually managed to lose Jack altogether. Although it was becoming a bit of a standing joke around the office, Bobby was concerned. When they were busy working on a case there was no problem, the determined, focused and driven Jack of old was there in the thick of things. Lunchtime, dinner, evenings and weekends infact any kind of down time at all, was another matter. Bobby had just got over being abandoned at Slappys. Jack had taken the car and vanished returning to the office later like nothing had happened. Only to be embarrassed and apologetic, when Myles had asked him if he had forgotten anything!
“Come on “ he said to D. and Myles “Jacks checking out his feminine side I need back up!”
As they walked up the sidewalk to the store it became perfectly clear why they had lost him this time. A bridal gown adorned the window. Pinned and stretched to get the very best effect, it stood poised and elegant sparkling in the bright winter sunshine.
“Its perfect. “ Jack said.
“I hate to tell you this mate but ivory is not your colour!” Bobby replied trying to shake Jack out of his reverie.
“A floor length off the shoulder gown of ivory silk, if I’m not mistaken. A traditionally elegant line with front split, to mid knee, with the mere hint of decadence in the hand stitched pearls and lace devoir trim. A classic, somewhat overpriced designer bridal gown. I could see Ms Thomas looking very nice in that.” Myles said with an air of authority which astounded his colleagues.
“Fashion critic. Nice touch Myles” D. said with raised eyebrows to Bobby. Myles never ceased to amaze.
“Only one thing wrong. I think our Sue would look a little more than nice in that!” Bobby then raised his eyebrows to D, and nodded his head in the direction of Jack.
D. put his arm around Jacks shoulder “Come on Bobby’s getting hungry. You know what he gets like!”
“Sorry guess I did it again huh?” Jack was apologetic. But that gown was just how he had imagined Sue on their wedding day.
“No wonder Bobby keeps losing you. I just thought he was getting absent minded in his old age.” D. was more than sympathetic Jack had been through the mill in recent weeks and was about to take one of the biggest steps in his life.. “Don’t worry comes with the territory just affects some men more than others!”
“Well I would hate to see anyone who’s got it worse than Jack!” Myles muttered.
“Tracking devise” Bobby mouthed to D. out of Jack’s eyesight! He wasn’t joking either.
“Good idea” said Myles
“Good idea what?” Jack asked finally having shaken his reverie, and tuned back into the real world.
“A good idea to go to the Petit Monsieur. My fru fru ladies luncheon club. To help Bobby with his cholesterol.” Myles said jovially having just won his choice of dining establishments.
Bobby had a feeling the next 24 days were going to test him in ways that had never been tested before as an FBI agent!
