Chapter 27

The next few days whizzed past, while Jack spent the days with his parents, Sue joined them in the evenings. As Jack had suggested his parents had agreed to take Defor, ‘but we’re giving her another name’ Liz insisted, ‘I like Gracie……’

‘Defor’s a great name’ Jack grinned, ‘although I suppose Gracie isn’t so bad…….’

You, young man have no say in this, since she’s our dog’ Liz wagged a finger at him chuckling as he pouted lightly.

Gracie and Levi made themselves at home in his apartment, snuggling together on the floor since Gracie was much too big to fit on a chair, ‘I think he’s going to miss Gracie’ Sue smiled, a sentiment with which Levi wholeheartedly agreed.

‘I invited a couple of friends over for dinner’ Sue smiled having spoken to Liz and Sam who had agreed wholeheartedly.

‘Yeah?’ Jack kissed her softly ‘who?’

‘Deanne and Helga….. and Katie’s coming too. Hope there’s enough room for them all’

Levi’s ears pricked up, as much as he loved Wolfie he loved Katie more, she was his oldest and best friend.

‘JACK, GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN’ Helga signed after enveloping him in a warm hug, ‘IF I WERE A FEW YEARS YOUNGER, I’D GIVE SUE A RUN FOR HER MONEY……’

Jack chuckled at the comment, Helga was a good friend to both of them and he had a great deal of respect for the older woman. ‘HAPPY TO SEE YOU SAME’ he signed, ‘COFFEE?’

‘TEA PLEASE’ Helga responded before signing her greetings to his parents.

‘Deanne, how are you?’ Jack asked, signing as he spoke. Like Helga she was a good friend and another woman Jack had the utmost respect for.

‘I’m good, Jack how are you doing?’

‘Ok thanks, still a little sore but nothing I can’t handle…..’ he followed Deanne’s gaze to the floor where the three dogs were curled up together each one snoring softly.

Liz and Sam winked at Sue, the plan was going well. They’d noticed his tendency to sign when he spoke every time he went home, knowing he had no idea what he was doing.

While Sue translated for Helga Jack signed for Deanne and translated the signs for his parents, earning himself plenty of praise from the two older women.

‘You did great tonight Jack’ Deanne smiled as he walked her and Helga to their cab. As with Sue he’d insisted they use the company run by three women who did all the driving. Since he couldn’t take them home himself he was determined to do all he could to keep them safe. ‘If we didn’t know you we’d never know you’d only been signing a few years….. Sue is a very lucky woman…..’

‘I’m the one who’s blessed, very blessed to have her in my life…… I can’t wait to be married to her…..’

‘You’ve proposed?’ Helga signed excitedly.

‘No….. but we have talked marriage’ Jack answered in sign.

‘That’s wonderful Jack’ Deanne hugged him tightly, releasing him to allow Helga to hug him excitedly.

‘DIDN’T I TELL YOU THAT YOU TWO MADE A LOVELY LOOKING COUPLE?’ Helga chuckled, patting him on the shoulder.

‘YOU DID’ Jack signed, patting Katie and assisting the two women in to the cab. He and Sam had walked the three dogs earlier, leaving the women to talk and sign.

With his parents hiring a car the following day for the drive home he was keen to spend this last evening with them.

‘You two any closer to setting a date?’ Sam asked.

Jack shook his head, ‘no I’m waiting for Sue to decide when…… it’s been a whirlwind, not that I think she’s having doubts but she’s not one for rushing things…….’

‘Thought any more about the test?’

‘Yeah, I’m gonna have it. If it’s negative then she can decide to move on…..’

‘She won’t son, she’s every bit the special woman we knew her to be………’

‘Stay?’ he asked as Sue prepared to leave that night. Sam and Liz had headed to bed some hours ago, leaving the two of them to talk and make out.

She wanted to, having spent the last four nights at her own apartment she’d missed feeling his arms wrapped around her, missed the smell of his aftershave and his own essential essence, missed the feel of his skin beneath her fingers as she snuggled in to him.

‘Sure’ she smiled, giggling as he hugged her tightly.

Levi wuffled happily as the two of them headed for the bedroom, while they weren’t at the puppy making phase of their relationship things were moving along nicely as far as he were concerned.

‘I LOVE YOU’ he signed, holding her close, it was times like this when he ached to marry her immediately but he was willing to wait for her to choose the time.

‘I love you too hun’ she murmured, kissing him tenderly before snuggling close and falling asleep wrapped in his arms.

Jack, I can see why you want to take the test, but it really isn't going to make any difference to Sue!!!

Chapter 28

‘I’m so sorry Jack……….’ his physician handed over the sheet of paper which could determine his future.

Jack blinked back the tears pooling in his eyes as his worst fears were realised. He and Sue had talked about the test, she’d told him more than once that he didn’t have to take it, that it wouldn’t change her feelings or her decision to marry him. He’d explained that he wanted her to know the score before they married and finally she’d reluctantly backed his decision.

‘No chance?’ he whispered.

‘Negligible, around 1 in a million…… I’m so sorry’ the doc genuinely liked Jack, he was always polite and friendly with a warm smile and of all the men he knew Jack was one of the few he truly believed would be a great dad.

‘It’s ok’ Jack shrugged his shoulders, determined not to show his emotions, ‘it’s what I was expecting……….’

Exiting the office he kept his head down, determined not to let anyone see that his world had fallen apart. Until just a few minutes ago he’d dreamed of a life with Sue and at least two children the image of their mom. Providing the sample had been horribly embarrassing but it was nothing compared to the desperate loneliness he was now experiencing.

Ambling slowly home he toyed with the idea of calling Sue but he knew if he did she’d rush over to him which would raise questions from the team he didn’t want to answer.

Getting only his voicemail each time she called him Sue took some time owing and headed to his apartment.

Sitting beside him on the couch Sue pulled him close and hugged him tightly not needing to ask what was hurting him so bad.

‘I’m so sorry Sue’ he whispered.

‘You have nothing to be sorry for Jack…… I love you and I’m not going anywhere, now or any time in the future……. I think we should get married…… as soon as possible….’

‘Sure’ he relaxed back on the couch, his battered heart and hopes slowly rebuilding, ‘when?’

‘Next week……… we can apply for the licence today, get the bloods and book the time……. we could ask Judge Kendall……..’

‘I thought you wanted a church wedding with all the frills?’ as much as he wanted to marry her he didn’t want to ruin her dreams of a special day.

‘I do…… later, but I don’t want to wait……. I love you Jack, I want a future with you, starting as soon as possible…….’ her hand reached out to caress his cheek, any doubts about the speed of their relationship evaporating. She loved him, he loved her and they wanted a future together, whatever that future might hold.

He captured her lips, sending her senses reeling with a passionate kiss as Levi snuggled up on the chair. He didn’t quite understand why they were both crying but the thought of them getting married as soon as possible worked for him.

Woken by Jack calling his name Levi rolled off the chair landing with a thud on the floor, ‘c’mon buddy, we have a marriage to arrange’ Jack smiled. He’d lost count of how many times he’d offered Sue the opportunity to back out of marriage and each time she’d kissed him in to silence.

While Levi slept they’d gone on line and Jack had got together everything he needed. While he was having his bloods drawn Sue was going to head home for her paperwork.

‘Judge Kendall?’ Jack stood outside the docs waiting for Sue to return from having her bloods taken, ‘Jack Hudson….. I’m good, still fighting the bad guys…… just needing a favour…… would you marry me and Sue……… Sue’s the blonde with the dog you met when Billy shot you……… no, waiting on the license…… us and two witnesses and a church wedding later….. that’s great, I’ll ring you when we’ve applied for the licence…… say hello to your lovely wife…… yes sir I am, very happy…….’

Exiting the building after applying for the licence they headed over to Deanne’s apartment, much to Levi’s delight since Deanne always gave him a handful of doggy treats and he got to play with Katie.

‘Hi’ she greeted them warmly, always happy to see the youngsters who had become like a son and daughter to her. While she stood back to allow them in Katie greeted Levi equally warmly.

‘We wanted to ask you a favour’ Jack signed, ‘Sue and I have booked a date for out marriage……..’

‘You want me to make the cake?’ she asked.

‘No…….. although maybe you could make the cake in a few months’ Sue smiled, Deanne’s cakes were legendary at deaf club. She’d made a number of birthday and anniversary cakes which Carole then decorated.

‘Ok, so if you don’t want a cake, how can I help?’ she asked softly.

‘We’d like you to be a witness…… next week. We’re having a civil wedding first and a big church wedding later….. we’d like you and Helga to be our witnesses……’ in the last few days since he’d been off sick Jack’s signing had come on in leaps and bounds and the older woman smiled as she watched his hands rather than his lips.

‘I’d be honoured……hear that Katie, we’re gong to a wedding……’

‘We booked for early afternoon, so you have time to prepare’ Jack didn’t know too much about her condition but he did understand that she had good days and bad days and on the bad days she couldn’t guarantee to get anyplace very early, ‘and we’d like to take you and Helga out for lunch first…….’

‘Thank you, we’d like that’ Deanne signed, ‘and when you do it for real I’d be honoured to make the cake…..’

‘That would be great’ Jack smiled, her cakes were almost as good as his mom’s although it was a pretty close run thing.

Levi wagged his tail excitedly, Deanne always slipped him and Katie a slice of cake, turning her head so she couldn’t read Sue telling her off.

Walking Katie before they left Sue snuggled in to Jack, relishing the sensations as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

‘Don’t they make a lovely couple?’ Levi whispered in to Katie’s ear as they played happily.

‘They do’ Katie wuffled happily as the two humans engaged in some making out.

‘Didn’t I tell you you were a lovely looking couple’ Helga teased having agreed to be a witness. Like Deanne she had taken to Sue as a daughter and Jack had become like a son to her. His obvious love for Sue had endeared him to the older woman almost as soon as they met and his efforts to be a part of Sue’s world had secured his place in her heart.

‘You did’ Jack nodded, ‘I was just too knuckleheaded to do anything about it…..’

Helga chuckled and showed him the sign for knucklehead, nodding as he signed it repeatedly and pointed to himself.

‘I think we need to go celebrate’ Jack suggested as the two of them left Helga’s apartment

‘Any suggestions?’ in truth she’d like nothing more than takeout and a movie but if Jack was keen to take her out then she’d willingly go.

‘Dinner and a movie? Your choice…….’ he signed.

‘So how about takeout, a DVD and some wedding plans at your place?’ while Jack signed almost exclusively now when he and Sue were together, Sue spoke as she signed.

‘Sure?’

‘Positive’ she smiled, ‘I wanna have the church wedding soon, buy the house…. as much as I like this place, it would be nice to have a backyard for Levi, a swing on the porch…..’

‘Ok, works for me……’

Making one last stop at the mall Jack almost dragged her out the car, ‘can’t have a wedding without rings’ he grinned, taking her hand and leading her to the nearest jewellery store.

‘Can you get this engraved by the end of the week?’ Jack asked handing over Sue’s ring and smiling as the assistant nodded.

‘And this one?’ Sue asked, receiving an affirmative nod.

Leaving the store Sue gently fingered the engagement ring, it was simple but beautiful the type of ring she’d always dreamed of wearing.

Levi could barely contain his excitement as he danced happily beside them. They’d talked of a house with a back yard in which he could play or shelter under a shady tree and Jack had even mentioned the possibility of a playmate for him.

Chapter 29

Waking up beside him the following morning Sue sighed softly and cuddled closer, her fingers tracing lazy patterns over his skin. More than two weeks after the attack the bruising was almost faded and the sutures had been removed.

Gracie had settled in and was apparently having a wonderful time with Buster who had discovered laidback wasn’t so good when he had the option of a playmate.

The previous evening had been fun and productive; they’d eaten and planned the wedding which was booked at Sue’s home church in three months. Her pastor had been a little surprised at the speed of things, suggesting premarital counselling then changing his mind when Sue explained about the civil marriage.

They’d found a reception venue, a smart hotel with honeymoon suite, drawn up a guest list, semi designed the invitations, talked about hymns and readings, chosen the wedding party and talked honeymoons before searching the net for a house.

‘I like that one’ Jack grinned, ‘I think we could be very happy there…… just like last time…….’

‘We can afford it?’ as much as she’d loved the house and the thrill of marriage to Jack she was careful with money and didn’t want to live beyond their means.

‘We can’ he nodded, ‘I’ll meet you for lunch and we can go look around and make an offer.’

‘I miss you at work you know’ she sighed, ‘it’s not the same…….’ Although Jack’s wounds were healing he was finding it painful to move suddenly and the docs had insisted on him having another couple of weeks off work, reluctant to put him in a position where he’d have to participate in a take down and be unable to defend himself.

‘I miss being at work’ he smiled, ‘miss seeing you, working a case with you….. still I get to eat with you most mornings and every evening……’ he’d kissed her softly, deepening the kiss as she responded and whispered his name and left her incapable of any thought.

While they had done nothing more than cuddle together in bed Sue was relaxed enough to explore his torso, never moving below the band of his running pants and allowing him to gently caress her stomach and back. She fell deeper in love with him as he carefully avoided her more delectable areas, something David had never tried to do. On the few occasions they very seriously made out he was pawing all over her, making her skin crawl and sending silent signals to Levi who barked furiously and jumped at them both, apparently needing to go out urgently.

He’d persuaded her to take a couple of days off work once they were married, suggesting they headed out somewhere.

‘No….. I think we should be here, take time to get to know each other in the best possible way’ she whispered huskily, leaving him incapable of arguing, or indeed speech.

She knew the alarm had gone off by the way Jack groaned and stretched out an arm before pulling her close and kissing her head. ‘You could phone in sick’ he signed, earning himself a light slap on the arm.

‘You can use the day to clear me some space for my clothes’ she huffed teasingly, ‘and tonight I have to start packing……’

‘I thought we weren’t telling anyone till we were married?’ he asked softly, moving so she could read him.

‘We aren’t, Lucy will be out with Bobby and I’m only planning on moving essential items, such as clothes and personal items…..’

‘Ok, we’ll pack together…..’

‘I was hoping you’d suggest that, Hudson’ she grinned, ‘I should go get ready for work…….’

Meeting her for lunch Jack was pleased with the progress made on the apartment. Once he’d started he’d continued, clearing out a good deal of the guest room ready for the move. He’d allowed a few brief moments to grieve for the children he would never father but for now his future was focussed on marriage to Sue, moving in to the house and planning the wedding she deserved.

‘You’re sure we can afford this?’ Sue checked, slapping Jack on the arm as he rolled his eyes. She’d asked something like a hundred times since they’d left the bureau car park, seemingly unsure despite his assurances.

‘Yes…… trust me Sue. You trust me to protect you at work, trust me to spend my life protecting your heart for the rest of your life, please?’

She couldn’t resist the cute, appealing puppy dog eyes…… and Jack’s had the same effect, reducing her to a puddle of mush, ‘ok, I won’t ask again’ she smiled, ‘make an offer…….’ Very happy memories had been stirred as they toured the house and she knew if Jack asked her again what she liked best about him she’d need to spend days listing them.

Despite the catalyst which had led to them picking the civil wedding they hadn’t talked about the implications of not having children of their own, both determined to focus on the marriages and learning to live as husband and wife.

‘They’ve accepted the offer, the house is ours’ Jack closed his phone and lifted her off the ground in to his arms before kissing her gently.

With Jack doing the legal work the house would be ready to move in to in a few short weeks.

Levi bounced around happily, he loved that back yard, loved the freedom of somewhere to exercise without having to pound the pavements to get to the park first and he would easily adapt to lying under the trees on a sunny day.

Chapter 30

‘You ready for this?’ Jack smiled as he signed. Sue looked beautiful in the red dress she’d worn at the bachelor auction while he was wearing a dark suit, blue shit and red tie.

‘I’ve been ready for this for 4 years’ she whispered, barely able to take her eyes off him.

To their delight they’d kept the forthcoming marriage from the team, promising themselves they would call in after they’d taken Deanne and Helga home.

‘Let’s go then sweetheart’ he took her hand, checked his pockets one last time and called Levi who galloped happily out the door in front of them.

Three hours later they were married, Jack fingered the ring on which Sue’d had the inscription ‘Jack my love now and always Sue’

‘I LOVE YOU’ he signed, hoping that the older women didn’t mind this very public display of affection as he hauled Sue in to his arms and kissed her passionately.

Smiling and turning away Deanne and Helga had a silent conversation as they waited for the newly weds.

‘SORRY’ Jack signed blushing furiously, one arm wrapped around Sue’s shoulders.

‘Don’t worry’ Deanne signed, ‘we’re happy for you, you both deserve to be happy…..you look after her or we’ll come after you…. and I‘m armed……’ she chuckled and waved her walking stick at him while Helga wagged a finger at him.

‘You have my word ladies, I fully intend spending the rest of my life looking after her’ Jack smiled, looking lovingly at Sue who replied with a slap to his arm.

‘Maybe I’m not the needing looking after kind of girl’ she smiled sweetly, ‘maybe you’re the one who needs looking after…………..’

Jack rolled his eyes and tapped her on the nose before heading to the car suddenly anxious about facing the team with their news.

Walking first Deanne and then Helga to their doors Jack pointed the car towards the bureau holding Sue’s hand as he drove.

‘Ready for this?’ he signed, grinning as Sue shook her head and chewed her lip nervously.

‘They’ll be ok, it’s what Lucy’s wanted for four years and it’s not like they won’t get to be a part of the church service…….. wonder if Bobby will organise a bachelor party?’ he mused.

‘Except, my love you won’t be a bachelor will you?’ she giggled.

‘True…… and I can’t tell you how happy that makes me……. let’s go……’ sprinting round the car he opened the rear door for Levi then the passenger door for Sue.

Taking her hand he gave it a reassuring squeeze, whatever happened in the next few minutes they would be going back to his apartment as husband and wife and had two days alone to look forward to.

Padding along behind them Levi waved his tail happily, he’d very much enjoyed the day so far. Sue had cooked fried breakfast while Jack took him for a long run and for once she’d not given either male a hard time for the titbits Jack threw the dog. Over lunch Jack had dropped some bits for both dogs, earning himself lots of slobbery kisses on the hand.

And now he could relinquish his alpha male status to Jack, ‘assuming the team don’t kill him’ he mused.

‘Guys, can we have a few moments?’ Jack took a deep breath as 4 pairs of eyes turned to face them.

‘Jack, I think D should be here’ Sue whispered, disappearing as he nodded.

‘You ok, Spark?’ Bobby asked, concern written on his face. Since he and Lucy had hooked up he hadn’t seen as much of his friend as he would previously have done. Not, he surmised, that Jack looked too bothered at having to spend his time with Sue.

‘I’m good, how’s it going with Lucy?’ Levi pricked up his ears at the question keen to know the goss.

‘It’s great’ Bobby smiled, ‘I even told her about the little problem….. something I never told Darcy………’

‘That’s a good step, Crash’ Jack slapped his friend on the back.

‘Ok, people’ Jack stood beside Sue as she and D returned to the pen, ‘Sue and I have something to tell you…’

‘Oh my gosh, you’re engaged’ Lucy squealed happily, ‘you’re not?’ she sighed when Sue shook her head.

‘No, Sue and I are married……….’

‘You got married?’ Bobby asked, his jaw dropping in shock.

‘Who took the real Jack Hudson and left you in his place?’ Lucy growled, torn between being thrilled for her friend and mad because they’d done it secretly.

‘Hey, that’s not fair’ Jack protested lamely seconds before the women squealed loudly and hugged them both.

‘Wow, that’s a shock’ Bobby smiled, ‘I’m with Lucy though what happened to agent turtle, to agent slow as molasses. You know Lucy was about ready to lock the pair of you in a cupboard until you talked…….’

‘She did suggest that’ Sue muttered darkly when Tara repeated the comment.

‘Seriously, we’re happy for you’ Myles shook his hand and kissed Sue on the cheek.

‘But why?’ Lucy asked softly, ‘why now? Why didn’t you wait?’

‘We didn’t want to wait, we waited for four years…… we are having a church wedding in three months’ Jack grinned, it wasn’t quite the reaction they’d anticipated but they were at least still speaking to them.

‘Wow Jack, when you got your butt in to gear you sure moved quickly, congratulations. You’re a nice couple and I know Donna will be thrilled the two of you are finally together’ D clapped him on the back before hugging Sue and planting a soft kiss on her cheek.

‘Wow’ was about all Lucy could coherently put together right now, she wanted to be mad but looking at Sue’s face she knew it was impossible. Her friend looked so radiantly happy and Jack was well and truly besotted by her.

She smiled at Levi who was jumping excitedly at Jack, licking his hand and wagging his tail.

‘I’m thrilled for you both’ she smiled, ‘just so long as I get to help arrange the wedding……’

‘No worries, I want you and Tara as bridesmaids……. and I’ll even let you arrange the bachelorette party…… along with Bobby who can arrange the bachelor party….’

‘But you won’t be single’ Bobby shook his head in confusion.

‘No, we won’t but we’d like a joint celebration, a party with all our friends’ Sue smiled, snuggling closer to Jack who wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

Leaving the pen later than they had intended they headed to their favourite Italian restaurant where they enjoyed their first dinner as husband and wife before walking Levi.

Chapter 31

‘Sorry buddy, you’re out here tonight’ Jack patted the dog on the head and glanced towards the bedroom door.

Sue had disappeared some time ago having opted to take a shower and prepare for bed. They were both nervous about embarking on this part of married life, torn between wanting to become one and wanting to put it off.

He’d rung his parents to let them know, thankful that he’d used her blackberry as Liz let out an ear piercing shriek of delight. Unlike her parents his hadn’t whined about the speed at which it had happened but they’d eventually calmed down with the realisation that a church wedding would follow soon.

Jack had assured Steven Thomas that he would still have the honour of walking Sue down the aisle and that had gone a long way towards preventing Claire from taking the next flight to DC and whacking Jack around the head.

As Jack continued to pet him Levi rolled on to his back, silently begging for a tummy rub. He was about ready to go to sleep now, it had been a tiring day with the wedding and playing with Katie and seemingly endless walks and a ton of treats Jack had slipped him.

‘That’s ok buddy’ Levi huffed, ‘it’s time you took on the alpha male status around here, she’s a tough one to alpha male though, far too headstrong to be submissive’ he sighed. ‘four years I’ve tried to get her to submit to me and I don’t think I’ve even got close, maybe you’ll have more success……..’

Personally Levi wasn’t so sure Jack would have any more success than he had but he was willing to hand over those particular reins to the dark haired agent.

Hearing her call his name Jack poked his head around the door grinning when he saw her with the covers pulled high around her, ‘I’m gonna grab a shower’ he murmured, hoping she’d look a little less terrified when he returned.

Cuddled under the covers Sue was torn between keeping her shirt and shorts pyjama set on and divesting herself of everything. Having already opted not to wear her granny pyjamas as Lucy called them she was horribly nervous about tonight. Her ‘grannies’ had been sufficient when they were single but were far too bulky and unwieldy for a married woman but to begin the night wearing nothing was a step too far.
She knew all about the birds and bees and had dreamed more than once of making love with Jack but now it was time she was a bag of nerves.

Sighing softly she undid a couple of buttons and tried to relax hoping her fear didn’t scare Jack off.

Standing under the shower Jack took a deep breath, he wanted to join Sue now, to hold her in his arms and make love with her but he’d seen the way she chewed her lip nervously and dreaded scaring her off. Instead he took his time, wrapping a towel around his waist before cleaning his teeth.

His running pants seemed excessive for a wedding night but wearing nothing wasn’t an option either. He sighed softly and slipped on a clean pair of boxers.

Leaving the light on Jack caressed her cheek gently, ‘we don’t have to do anything tonight sweetheart, we have a lifetime in which to make love……….’

She shivered under his loving gaze, wanting him more than she’d ever believed possible, ‘make love with me Jack’ she whispered huskily caressing his smooth, muscular torso as she spoke.

Nervously touching and exploring, kissing and caressing they became one. Sure the first time wasn’t as wonderful as their dreams but by morning after they’d made love many times, it was definitely the stuff of their wildest dreams.

I love how Levi just handed Jack the alpha male status. I think, in some ways, Jack will fair better than levi -- at least he'll be allowed on the bed all the time! LolLolLolLol.gif

Kav, you have me laughing!!!

Cath, this was beautifully done!! What a wonderful idea to get married right away and then plan a bigger wedding in a few months time!! The team took it very well after they realized that they would still be able to be part of the festivities!! Levi was so cute - he trusts Jack and knows that he will keep Sue safe!! I hope he realizes though that he is still needed very much to help!!!

The last post was..............perfect!!!

I'm finally all caught up and I'm glad I caught up where I did. Sue's lucky. Not only does she get to marry Jack once, but she gets to do it twice! Lucky girl!

Chapter 32

Standing at the front of the church, Jack beside him Levi watched as Sue’s dad walked her down the aisle. She looked beautiful and he knew Jack was blinking back the tears as their dreams were fulfilled. Despite three months of marriage they’d spent as much time planning and preparing for this wedding as they would if they weren’t married.

Levi had sat patiently waving his tail as they sent and received invitations, sighed in frustration as they trawled the shops looking for the perfect wedding dress, not that Sue was fussy but she knew what she wanted and something that made her look like a meringue wasn’t it.

Lucy, Tara and Amanda had accompanied her, choosing their dresses the same day. His paws were sore by the time they finally arrived home with dresses and shoes and his tail wagged with excitement as Sue chatted about the flowers they’d ordered before asking how Jack’s day had gone.

Listening as Jack confirmed the tuxes had been ordered he wondered why he hadn’t opted to go to the men; they had life much easier. They went to one store, arranged to hire the tuxes and shoes, ordered waistcoats to match the red dresses Sue had decided the girls would wear then headed to the local golf course. Myles and Jack had paired up against D and Bobby, beating them easily before going for pizza. ‘Yup,’ Levi decided ‘I should have gone with the guys.’

All in all, Levi decided married life was going well, he was content with his bed in the lounge of the new house, the garden was big enough to play in with plenty of trees under which to shelter when it got hot and he loved to watch the two of them sitting on the swing at night talking or signing their love for each other.

As Sue reached the front of the church the dog, resplendent in bow tie echoed Jack’s sign of ‘BEAUTIFUL’ as he took Sue’s hand, lifting it to plant a soft kiss before turning to the pastor.

Dropping her hands to sign his vows and promises he blinked back the tears pooling in his dark eyes, ‘Sue I love you more than I ever thought possible. The last few months have been the best time of my life; marriage to you has been far more than I ever believed possible and I love you more today than I did the day we first married. Today I repeat the vows I made that day, to always love and cherish you, to strive to be the husband you deserve and to seek your forgiveness when I mess up…… I promise to be a loving father to our children, whenever they arrive….. I promise to always love and protect you, to grow old with you and to never stop loving you…..’

‘I LOVE YOU’ Sue signed, wiping away the tears pooling in her eyes.

‘Jack, my friend, my husband and my lover, today I promise that you will always be the one who holds my heart, marriage to you has been more wonderful than I had ever dared to hope it might be. You’ve fitted in to my world as a hand fits in to a glove and I thank you for that. I love you today more than I loved you the day we married and I know that I will love you more each day. I promise to always love and cherish you…. and to tell you when you get a little too protective……. I promise to be a loving mom to our children and to grow old beside you loving you always…….’

As they kissed tenderly even Levi had tears in his eyes and he sneezed, shaking his head to get shot of the tears.

After a number of slow dances they headed up to the honeymoon suite leaving Levi with his parents. To the dog’s delight he wasn’t going to Hawaii with them but was having two weeks in Wisconsin with Gracie and Buster, ‘he deserves a holiday’ Jack smiled.

Levi's relief at getting a holiday is too funny! But, I guess from a dog's perspective, being cooped up in the honeymoon suite in Hawaii would be a bit of a drag, wouldn't it?
