Grinning from ear to ear from their hidden place, the newlyweds were celebrating their victory—they had succeeded in matching all three couples!!! Almost an impossible job!!!
“See hunny, I’ve told you that anything was possible in apple time!” Gracie teased Martin hitting him mockingly on the arm.
“WHAT?!” He exclaimed frowning in false annoyance. “Excuse me Miss, but if I remember it right, YOU were the one with incertitude about that plan!” She had the courtesy of blushing slightly at his comment, though she went on on her defence.
“Maybe I had a bit of apprehension about Myles and Lucy, but I totally trusted our genius recipe’s of love for both Bobby and Tara, and Jack and Sue!”
---
The next day all co-workers came in at about the same time, with a renewed joy write in caps and bold letters on their features. Myles had brought donuts and Jack had taken coffees from the shop nearby for everyone. The atmosphere was way lighter and brighter than it had been in weeks—if not in months.
“Good morning folks! What a beautiful Monday, don’t you think?” Greeted Myles laying the pastries box on the coffee table to self-service.
“Wow Myles! You seem in a wonderful mood today!” Stated Sue looking puzzled at him. “To what do we own the pleasure?” She added teasing the tall Bostonian.
His gaze shifted automatically to Lucy who, when she thinks of it, came in pretty late the other night after the wedding... “Uh... can’t a man be just happy to have had a great night sleep?” He offered as an excuse.
Seeing the blush on Lucy’s face she chuckled knowingly. “Yes, if you said so...” she replied shaking her head.
“Hey, who let this apple on my desk?” Inquired Jack looking around him for an answer. Sending a glance in Sue’s direction he said, “You too have an apple on yours!” He pointed to the red fruit on the bright red envelop. As he came closer and grabbed it, Tara questioned the blond woman, “You have a secret admire?”
Jack’s reaction was instantly—a light tint of red appeared on his face, though it wasn’t from shyness... but from jealousy.
No she doesn’t!!! We declared our love just yesterday! There’s no way another man could have her now! He yelled inwardly. Trying to fight the urge to hold her possessively in his arms, he contended himself taking a step closer to her. Her respond satisfied his manly pride.
“No! I have no idea where this comes from... Jack, you can open it, I don’t mind.”
He didn’t take two seconds to think about it and obeyed immediately. As he went on with the reading, what started as a small grin spread all along his face from ear to ear, becoming a heartedly laugher at the end of the page, which barely contained a few lines.
“What is it? Who left it?” She frowned at her boyfriend’s reaction.
I still find it hard to believe that the famous-dark-haired-agent-pride-of-the-FBI is MY boyfriend! “It’s from our lover birds... I think they had planned their little ‘treat’ since a while!” He chuckled at how much work they had put in it. “It says :
“Dear friends, we’re glad, no more than that, we are thrilled with joy that our ‘mischief’ had worked, yesterday. We hope that you won’t hold on on us for it and that you’ll understand that we’ve done that for the good (and sake!) of everyone. The love glowing through all of you was becoming unbearable and we thought we could give you the little push that you needed to FINALLY make the move of your lives. We let to each of you an apple to share a part of our ‘apple-ly’ ever after with you. For once, we could say that our fairy tale had the perfect ending... for all the involved characters...
With all our love...
Martin and Gracie”Loving glances were exchanged all through the bullpen between the three newly formed couples, who were silently thanking the two responsible people of their dreams come true...
