I have a feeling I will be visiting the couch again tonight when I tell Marge there is no way Manning will adopt little Shasha. I am not even sure the fact Manning himself said he could not adopt her will work in my favor. But it’s helped me discover a side of Bobby Manning I never thought I would see.
I knew he had a lot of anger towards his biological father for leaving him – I would have had to work extra hard not to notice it in the Hoffman case. What I did not know though was how it affected him in his day to day life… how in colored the way he view himself in regard to relationships. If what Marge says is true – and I believe it is from hearing Hudson talking to Manning in the conference room – Manning already adores this little girl, but he admitted to not being able to let himself get attached to her. Now I admit most people would see that attitude as a problem when I try to match him with someone. But I see that as a challenge; only now I know it’s not a challenge Dotson can take on.
What I need – okay, what Manning needs – is a strong woman who’ll be able to tackle his issues. Probably someone who’s been through some rough times and has risen above it; then he’ll see there is hope out there for him. And since I am not above mixing good deeds with self-serving purposes, I’ll start looking for that someone among the FBI personnel… preferably field agents too. It takes one to understand one.
Another interesting thing I discovered eavesdropping? Well yeah, I discovered I was pretty good at it; but it’s not what I’m asking here. I discovered that Hudson admitted his love to Thomas on Halloween night! Am I dense or is it just them? Usually, when you admit to someone you love them – and when that someone loves you back – you move forward, not backwards. I don’t know what the deal is with those two, but I am making it my life’s mission to find out.
Operation Black Book was scheduled to run until December 25; but I can see I have more work ahead of me, so I will be keeping up the operation until further notice. For the sake of integrity though, I’ll write a new journal for the rest of the operation, starting December 26.
I’m turning into quite the Humanitarian here.

It takes a big man to admit when he did something wrong. Well, I admit I did have a part in something very wrong: the pairing of D’Angelo and Manning. I mean, I’m the one who sent him to her without proper warnings – other than ‘offer a big, fat no comment’ which is more of an order than a warning. With hindsight, I know I should have seen it coming. There you had Manning with his inability to resist a beautiful woman; and there you had D’Angelo who had about as good a chance at fighting him off than a snowflake had a chance of surviving in Tampa.
Wrongs never sat well with me, so I am more determined than ever to find the right woman for Manning. To that intent – and for my back and neck’s sake – I hired Special Agent M to tail a few female agents I tracked in the system. I’ll be going through more Personnel records and see who else I can feed her. If anyone asks why I’m going through Personnel records as if they were candy, I’ll just tell them I am looking for the perfect profile for agents who could help out in future sensitive cases.
That takes care of the easy part. The hard part stands with Hudson and Thomas. I can’t help them when I don’t even know what the problem is. Does it have to do with the no-dating policy or is it something else; something more disturbing? Chances are Thomas would have confided in Dotson since they are roommates. And Chances are pretty good Hudson would have confided in Manning because they are best friends. So that’s at least two outsiders who know the real deal. The tricky part is there is no way any of them would confide in me if I asked. I’m part of the Bureau who has such asinine rules… I’m in a position where I would have to report them (if I were so inclined, which I am not – but they have no way of knowing that). I guess this is one of those times where I’ll have to sit and wait for something to be handed to me.
Leland and Williams have been progressing rather slowly; now there’s something that doesn’t surprise me. Myles Leland the Third is the king of caution; no matter how lively Williams is, this will never change him. It’s probably gonna be a bumpy road, so I’ll just have to keep providing them with enough buffers that they make it through.
After this mission, I’ll definitely deserve a raise…

Hmm...somehow, Jacynthe, I think I know just who that might be. You really are feeding all this into
Under Covers quite nicely, aren't you? I'm looking forward to that attention to detail when you get to your M/T story! Of course, if you keep getting side tracked with all these contest entries, you might never write your M/T story! Okay, that's it -- Taz, Jacynte is no longer allowed to enter contests! She has to submit one perfectly romantic, amazingly steamy M/T story for rerio's approval before she can be cleared to write anything else!

Ami, I promise to write Myles and Tara's story pretty soon. With the FBI's black book - I am kinda putting myself in the right frame of mind for them so I foresee starting to write it after the holidays...
Will I be spreading myself think? Heck yes! Nothing like a good challenge. And keeping 4 stories rolling will definitely fit the challenge category!

Christmas really is a time of miracles. Why, I caught Leland kissing Williams underneath the mistletoe in the Bullpen. Okay, so it was a peck on the cheek, but Myles’ lips were definitely reluctant to part with Tara’s skin. And that blush on her face complemented her outfit quite nicely. I don’t know of anyone else who could wear a wool sweater with a huge face of Rudolf – red blinking nose and all – in a federal office and still look like she belonged. The reindeer antlers on her head were just an added bonus I suppose. I heard Dotson say they should be thankful she did not have her reindeer slippers on. I did not bother to ask; I’m afraid of the answer.
Hudson picked Thomas up at 11 and asked me if they could take the day off to go shopping in vu of their Christmas Party at the hospital. Since it’s rather quiet around here, I sent them on their way. The fact he said ‘they’ would be shopping also made my decision easier. I mean, shopping is something very personal… and they’re doing it together. I can just see her asking him which dress she should buy. Or him deciding what color of tie to wear to match with her gown. This is going to be so romantic.
Manning left shortly before 5 to get ready for the big bash – the one Hudson and Thomas spent 6 hours shopping for. What I wouldn’t give to be a small fly on the wall at that party and see what they’re all up to there.
Hmmm… I’m sure Marge would agree we can go to a later service tonight. There was this new dress she was dying to try on. I think we just got ourselves a party to go to!

Yesterday was positively bizarre, even my wife agrees with me; or maybe I’m the one agreeing with her… Marge has been watching the X-Files for so long that she usually presents odd facts and attempts to explain how/why they happened. Most often than not, she’ll take a perfectly normal situation and turn it into something so twisted and unbelievable that I’ll simply nod and wonder if I should get her help. But last night, I actually witnessed the whole thing. So I had to agree with her and wonder how many other occasions I missed to take her word at face value.
Neither of my three agents saw me, I made sure to mingle with the crowd, which was not easy when you consider it consisted mainly of kids… and that I usually tower over adults! But I made it. My knees were a bit sore by the time we left to go home, but it was all for a good cause. And if we heard all that transpired in the communal room, it’s only because of Marge and her special bugs and receptors.
I finally had a chance to see Special Agent M at work and let me tell you she is an artiste. The way she ‘accidentally’ stumbled into Thomas, knowing that Hudson would rush to steady Sue while Manning would be at her side in the nick of time to keep her upright… pure genius. It gave her easy access to all three of them so she could properly bug them. She planted the first bug on Thomas when she stumbled, her hand having brushed against her back as her arms flailed every which way. When Manning steadied her, she pressed the palm of her hand on his chest to steady herself – that was bug number 2. Jack turning to her to make sure she was okay provided her with the perfect opportunity: she simply patted his arm assuring him she was alright and the deal was done. None of them was the wiser.
She made sure to stay away from me as they watched her walk away – probably making sure she would not trip on anyone else. When she saw the coast was clear, she rushed to my side and gave me what looked like an hearing aid to the untrained eye but was in fact a tiny receptor so we could keep track of the conversation. She handed me a small dial and told me this was the channel changer. It’s amazing what they can fit in tiny spaces these days: each bug had its own channel and we could ear them all from this minuscule hearing aid thingie.
We watched in utter satisfaction when we saw Hudson reach for Thomas’ hand while Santa recited his tale. I thought to myself: ‘this is one small step for the man, one giant leap for the couple’ (yeah, I am now having creative license even in my head). And that’s when everything turned bizarre. Well, rather when Santa walked up to them.
He came over and gave something to the little girl Manning was with – Marge told me it was Shasha, as if I couldn’t put 2 and 2 together and come up with the right answer. Anyways, I don’t know what the gift was, but it got Manning’s attention. The Santa sprouted something about Manning believing in Christmas but not in him… as in Santa. I thought this man had escaped from the loony bin Manning had momentarily visited a few days ago, but the next minutes made me doubt even that.
Because by then, Hudson called Santa Doctor Something and said they needed to talk to him. And Santa replied that Jack had been a good boy and something about hope being all we got. That got to Hudson so I am guessing this was not something he expected anyone else to know about. He then went on – Santa – to talk about how he (Jack) should not fight his feelings so hard and not let regulations stand in the way of true love. I really wanted to go and hug the pot-bellied man right then and there but Marge held me back.
I was pretty excited by now and wondering what he would tell Thomas. He called her on her big heart and her spirit and said he had a message for her from Judy who, I gathered, died. Thomas was definitely touched and Hudson had to hold her hand some more for support. I watched her squeeze back and smile at him. They’re so obvious…
Needless to say, I now have a new ally in Operation Black Book. We exchanged emails and he promised he’d help me find the perfect someone for every member of my team. He just said he might be busy, what with building toys and everything…
~ THE END ~

Wonderful job, Jaycey!!! I'm thinking (hoping) we might get to see more stories revolving around ancillary characters, now that Kav has broken the ice with a journal from Tanya's POV and yours from Ted. In a lot of way, writing a character who isn't so developed in the show can give you a lot of freedom... and we sure are enjoying the results!!!
Brava! Definitely looking forward to the continuation of Under Covers and the rest of your series!!!

Wow, Jaycey! This was a great story...and I can't believe you wrote it while trying to keep the characters/story straight in what...2 other stories?!? I love seeing things from Garrett's POV...and I can't wait for "Black Book II" to see how he ties up all these loose ends. Of course, being the top-notch supervisor that he is, I'm sure all of his hard work will have paid off....and I can't wait to read all about it!

Just caught up and I cant wait for the sequel! Loved the whole thing, and I really liked the way you portrayed Garrett. It must have taken so much time and effort to weave this around all your other fanfics.
When I saw your list of proposed works in progress the other day, I couldn't believe it! Talk about well planned! I look forward to reading each and everyone of them. You are eatting and sleeping as well in the next few weeks. You cannot sustain such brilliance on a empty stomach and no sleep!
Great story.

Okay, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed your story through Garrett's perspective. But, I really loved the character of Marge. I've known a couple of wives of F.B.I. agents and given the same opportunity to play agent, they would without a second hesitation and probably with more skill then their husbands possess.
I'm looking forward to the sequel to this story.
